Go Home

From the Plum Line, this heads up about another Republican scare campaign.

My, they sure do like to use fear, don't they? My fear is that I'll never be able to afford health care if someone doesn't stop these insurance companies -- and their Congressional enablers:

National Republicans are planning to unleash a huge wave of robocalls tomorrow [Editor's note: That's today] targeting dozens of House Dems and warning their constituents that Obama and Nancy Pelosi are plotting to “ram” their “dangerous” health reform plans through Congress.

The robocalls — the first paid media by the NRCC’s new “code red” program, which targets Dems on health care — comes after Obama told Congress to pass reform via reconciliation.

The calls are meant to spook House Dems right at the moment when the White House and Dem leaders are about to undertake a grueling effort to round up support for what’s expected to be a hair-raisingly close vote. It warns constituents that the targeted House Dem risks supporting this “dangerous” move.

“Even though a majority of the country wants them to scrap it, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and President Obama are planning to ram their dangerous, out-of-control health care spending bill through Congress anyway,” the call says, according to a script provided by a GOP official.

The version targeting Dem Rep Frank Kratovil of Maryland continues:

What’s worse, Congressman Frank Kratovil might vote for it. Frank Kratovil votes with Nancy Pelosi 84% of the time and may follow her orders on this bill too. Frank Kratovil might vote for a bill that will kill jobs, raise the costs of health care, and increase taxes. Frank Kratovil should be focusing on creating jobs, yet he might be the deciding vote that causes this massive new spending bill to pass.

The call concludes by calling the reform proposals “dangerous” a second time and admonishing voters to call their Representative and urge a No vote “before it is too late.”

That if the GOP REALLY believed that voting for the health insurance reform would be BAD for Democrats, they would be trying to force a vote, rather than trying to prevent it. The whole premise is laughable, just on it's face.

Great point,Margaret. And why did insurance companies' stocks fall yesterday after the president's speech?

It's a pity that most of the sheeple in this country can't see this for what it really is. I'm so tired of the Repugs saying over and over "the people don't want it". Polls show otherwise. The Rovian mantra just rolls on. The same talking points over and over. The 34%ers are certainly brainwashed. MONEY. Money for insurance, money for the politicians, money for Pharma. That's all and that's it. Period.

mudshark's picture

Is laughable.(Kudus to Margaret above)
The problem is, that it's working on about 30% of the people paying attention.
I may not completely understand what's in this bill.
But I have a feelin that it's no where near as bad as these dicks say it is.
On a related note.

What is your conceptual, continuity?

Is that about the power point presentation that was found?

My brain is working yet.Need More Coffee.
Yesterday, whilst perusing the Mourning Slow program.
I happened to catch a portion of it with Zuckerman.
He was, as was Slow, saying it was time to buy stocks in health insurance companies. They were laughing and acting in a typical know it all fashion. Claiming and gesturing that the stocks were bound to go up.
They plummeted yesterday. A classic example of how wrong these twits are. Good morning Patricia.

At least the media(some of them) have reported on this now. (The link up above.)

I heard this morning the RNC left a power point presentation at a hotel that told how they planned to use "fear" to get donations and to frighten the American people into voting republican. It might have been in the NY times today, not sure which paper. The RNC says that Michael Steele was not present when the presentation was given. Okay fine, but did he have anything to do with making it?

Is he intelligent enough to make a PowerPoint slide?

Good point and a good defense for him to use.

the sad thing is, 99.99% of those receiving these robo calls will believe it, because they just aren't very bright. to illustrate, i give you....the teabaggers: angry folks without a clue. or, those people who continually pass around serially discredited emails, claiming pelosi favors a "windfall profits tax" on your IRA, 401(k), your grandmother, whatever.

Barack Obama: Change we can only imagine

Is it ok to sit around eating cheetos when I get home from work? Or do I have to quit my job and apply for welfare first?

from the dollar store, they're cheaper.

Just sayin'

Barack Obama: Change we can only imagine

OK, but you didn't answer my question. Mine are getting stale and if I have to quit my job before I eat them I need to go ahead and do it.

by the time you get it those cheap dollar store cheetos will taste pretty good, almost like a filet mignon.

Otherwise wiener water soup will have to do.

You'll have to ask Steven_m. He seems to know da rules, I'm one of those chee-to eating libruls.

..deficit (I mean according to the CBO anyway), I'm not sure what you mean. Explain it please. Not to mention that no matter who is running things, we can all expect a tax increase in the future. If taxes don't go up at some point, the budget and the deficit will have to go up. We could start with chopping some money out of the defense budget, ending a couple wars would help.

They're cutting the Coast Guard's budget by 3%. Great, our first line of defense in terms of Homeland Security is getting their budget cut but we can waste money on planes we can't use to fight and other useless Cold War defense systems. the illogic boggles my mind.

..Americans want this bill killed. I thought 70% of Americans, not Democrats, not republicans, not conservatives, not liberals, not the KKK, not the hippies but AMERICANS wanted the public option; is it in the bill? What are mcconnell's statements based on? Where's the proof? Where's the Public Option? That's what I want to know.

Mickey: "It was an epiphany. Do you know what an epipany is?"

McConnell's statements are based solely on what the insurance companies want. But as a republican, he's duty-bound to lie so he says it's what Americans want.

Your gall bladder may have to come out, but it's much harder to face the booby-trap clause in your health insurance that will result in you getting stuck with a $123,000 bill for surgery and attendant procedures (including the $500 tylenols).

Three months later, of course, the re-po man is towing your car and the mortgage "servicer" has foreclosed on your house, and your life (even without that pesky gall bladder) has become a permanent camping trip next to a drainage ditch.

Keep your own ins system. No problem.

We'll teach you bastards a lesson for asking for a public option! We're going to raise your rates.

That will teach you a lesson!

mudshark's picture

This whole public option appears to me to be nothing more than a insurance pool. To keep rates lower. Call it bargaining power. And the side affect should be keeping your rates the same. If not a little lower. But, ya never know.
Knowing how the ins companies operate. I suspect you'll get an increase. To offset the losses from having to bargain with such a large pool.
But hey, have it your way.

What is your conceptual, continuity?

What we really need is universal health care. We're "the greatest country in the universe" yet we can't afford to provide health care.

It's strange how countries that do have universal health care have lower health care costs, healthier citizens and overall rank higher in personal contentment.

All the evidence you need of American's lack of contentment is how angry and unhappy republicans become at the mere thought of bettering ourselves.

The only things that make them happy are:

1) Money.
2) War.
3) Knowing other people are miserable.

Margaret's picture

4) Feeling superior to or more privileged than other people.

Barack Obama: Change we can only imagine

And deep inside they know that "feeling" is a lie as well.

Yeah, like rates never went up before.

Insurance is the problem, not the answer.

Well, first of all the grammar police officer in me would like to point out that it's much more tax, not taxes. (Much and less require singular nouns; plural nouns are used with many and fewer, despite phrases like "less taxes" becoming ubiquitous.)

Second of all, this is talking-point bullshit, unless you happen to be one of the wealthiest 5% of Americans, in which case it would only be your own "free ride" being over and you'd have to grow up and pay your fair share.

Finally, no one is offering to go anywhere near your shit-caked ass.

It's already started.. I got one last night. They are better, meaner, and have the full backing and support of the corporate world. You've got to hand it to them for their tactics, they are a formidable opponent.

I wish the Progressives would get a leaner message and get meaner in their ability to stand up and confront these bastards.

Now I know why I got 2 calls from dickhead Peter Roskum last night. I didn't answer because I really despise this dick.

Second, would you rather your tax rate went up by one percent one time or would you rather your insurance rates went up at more than 30 percent annually or even bi-annually? I'll be patient for the arithmetically challenged...

Barack Obama: Change we can only imagine

Ooo! Ooo! Ooo!

I want to pay more for less!!!! Sign me up for Aetna!

Me too! Along with that higher premium I'll also take a side order of higher deductibles and co-pays, more items on the not-covered list, and lower payouts on certain items that are covered!

Oh, wait...sorry, I don't have enough money for that.

The Senate has the 50 votes necessary to pass a public health insurance option using the budget reconciliation process, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said Thursday.

http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/n...

Why are so few talking about this. Is there an update on the story since last week?

I saw Rachel talking about it with Sherrod Brown last night. Hopefully C&L could get a video of that up and a thread going today.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCu2z-xTd8k

If they are going to go it alone without the help of the insurance companies or the republicans, they might as well pass something that the Republicans and insurance companies can't make fail.

fiver's picture

Whatever they enact not only should be, but will be viewed as, a wholly Democratic plan.

If the Democrats only had 50 votes for Medicare for All. Oh, that's right, the official Democratic position is that single payer would be "neither practical nor realistic."

Instead they prefer the plan written by the industry.

Except their mythical 60 vote excuse is pretty much blown out of the water.

Corruption favors the wealthy.

Your wonderful insurance can be taken away anytime for any reason. They can pay only some of a bill and when I asked about it I got a shrug. In Illinois there is nothing I could do about it. And the whole MY insurance. These people think the premium they pay from their check is what insurance costs. I pay 315.00 a month and my EMPLOYER pay 842.00 a month. (family of 4) $13,884.00 a year and that dwarfs any taxes I pay. I get services for the taxes which is more than I can say about the insurance. How many people know the TOTAL premium paid.
