Fancy book-author Karl Rove went to Beverly Hills last night to take questions about his very very gay dad. But then Code Pink showed up to make a citizen’s arrest, and Karl had no security! Was he able to beat up these ladies good? Also, someone brings up the Downing Street Memo, which Rove calls a fabrication — just like in 2005!

Lying us into a war is the kinda thing that can get people a tad bit upset. Does Rove really think he's going to be welcomed at book events like he is with Jay Leno or on FOX News? Poor Michele Malkin was shaken to her core over the event. I'd figure it would just roll off her back since she stalks children and family's like Graeme Frost because she disagrees on a policy level. Hey, she even goes to their homes for a little chat.

UPDATE: TP commenter Mr. Ed notes that Malkin visited the Frost’s home and business today. A coworker of Mr. Frost tells Malkin that the family is “struggling,” but she refuses to believe it.

Jane Hall was on FOX and was shocked that the right wingers attacked a 12 year old boy.

Michael Steele and his peeps at the RNC were being deluged with calls from the DNC ad over the angry mobs they are sending to disrupt the health care town halls so they did what every conservative hatchet man would do. They re-routed the calls...

"The DNC released a Web video early in the morning accusing the GOP of inciting mob activity at town hall meetings. At the end of the video, the DNC instructs people to call the Republican National Committee to express outrage. Callers who dial the RNC's main number to voice their concern about the DNC's charges are told to press 1, which sends them to the DNC's main switchboard."

This is a Karl Rove move for sure. I think this is going to ignite a very dirty war between the two groups.

The RNC redirected these calls from its main switchboard over to the DNC’s switchboard — a response, said Steele, to the White House arrogantly blaming regular Americans “like my mother, like my sister” for the health care impasse.

“I thought it was a good idea,” Steele said. “Don’t sit there and think you’re going to direct a bunch of angry liberals to call the RNC when I know full well what that’s all about. I get the joke. My response was, talk to your own party, because they’re the ones ginning this up.”

Most of America is upset by our health care system, but the right is bent on destroying reform, so they are astroturfing the town halls.

I did what I normally never do, and called the RNC number. They're pretty tricky at the RNC - there's an option to respond to the DNC ad, which routes you back to the DNC. Very slick. So I got in touch with the DNC, and they said to make sure I press OPTION 2 (this goes for you too, if you plan to call). So, I called the RNC back, pressed option 2, and actually got an operator. Sounded like they were being bombarded over there. I said, "I'm calling in response to the DNC ad. I agree with it 100%, and wish the Republicans in Congress and on the streets would engage in actual debate about health care and not resort to mob tactics." The operator's reply was a very curt, "That would be great if we were responsible for it, but we're not," and then she hung up on me.

Rahm Emanuel not only told George Stephanopoulos of ABC's This Week that no field officers should be prosecuted over breaking the law when it comes to torturing prisoners, but he took it a step beyond and proclaimed that even the lowlife John Yoos and Jay Bybees shouldn't face any consequences for their actions.

STEPHANOPOULOS: What about those who devised policy?

EMANUEL: Yes, but those who devised policy, he believes that they were -- should not be prosecuted either, and that's not the place that we go -- as he said in that letter, and I would really recommend people look at the full statement -- not the letter, the statement -- in that second paragraph, "this is not a time for retribution." It's time for reflection. It's not a time to use our energy and our time in looking back and any sense of anger and retribution.

We have a lot to do to protect America. What people need to know, this practice and technique, we don't use anymore. He banned it.

Look, it's up to us and Congress to push along these hearings and impeachments.

As Jane says:

Is that truly what the administration thinks? That people who want to see those who illegally led the country down the road of torture held to account are simply "looking back" in "anger" and "retribution"? Fifty percent of the country favor such investigations, including 69% of Democrats and a majority of independents. Is Rahm saying that President Obama believes they're nothing more than an angry, vindictive mob, and that nobody could possibly have a rational basis for believing that our laws should be enforced?

Manfred Nowak, the United Nations top torture investigator, says that treaties entered into by the United States require criminal investigations:

The United States, like all other states that are part of the U.N. convention against torture, is committed to conducting criminal investigations of torture and to bringing all persons against whom there is sound evidence to court.

For Obama to say "it is the time to look forward" is not a shock to me, but we have to look backward and take action so these insane practices and anything like them never, ever happen again under any president. I understand that the spooks don't want to be prosecuted for following orders and the pressure the president is being put under by these agencies. I'm just fine with seeing Yoo and Addington and Bybee and all the rest of the Bush Administration honchos in shackles doing a frogmarch, justice for their miscreancy in disgracing this country and using the OLC to justify the illegal practice of torture. I think the world needs to see them, too.
