What really impresses me about these guys is their ability to create interesting textures with the use of little to no effects. As far as outboard processing goes, it's barely even there. The only real effects we hear are some occasional guitar distortion and reverb on the vocal and guitar solo. They really knew how to make a little go a long way, besides, their musicianship holds up on its own; they even had some jazz chops, which wasn't too common in that part of the world at that time among rock musicians.
