Throwback Thursday: 1964 Film Reflects Today's Republican Politics Perfectly

"The Best Man" shows off...Trump? Cruz? Kasich?

File under "a sucker born every minute, every four years" and hat-tip Driftglass: 1964's "The Best Man" is worth watching for just how accurate this fifty-two year old movie is.

Well, maybe we'd be hard pressed to find a cable news anchor who would actually ask how a candidate can promise to "eliminate the income tax" and still "increase military spending." I don't recall anyone asking Cruz or Rubio how on earth they can propose such astronomical deficits.

But the deflection of "colored people" equals Communists is right up Trump's alley. Now they're terrorists and rapists. States rights? Obamacare? Anyone?

Deflecting questions is what today's candidates do best. Same as it ever was.
