It was on this day, March 18th, in 1977 that the Clash's debut single "White Riot" was released on CBS. The band had signed to the label only six weeks before and got the record done really quick. Mark Perry of the legendary fanzine Sniffin' Glue said at the time "Punk died the day the Clash signed to CBS."

The song reached #34 on the UK charts.
