A Republican Congressman has been arrested? Ya don't say.
Long Island fabulist Rep. George Santos's charges were unsealed on Wednesday, and he will face a list of financial crimes. Santos, who became the brunt of jokes over his penchant for lying, was taken into custody in Melville on Long Island, where the FBI is housed, then From he was taken to the courthouse in Central Islip, according to CNN.
The Washington Post reports:
Santos, 34, surrendered to federal authorities in the morning and is expected to appear in a federal courthouse in Central Islip, on Long Island, later Wednesday.
Officials said he has been charged with fraud, money laundering, theft of public funds, and false statements. The congressman and his lawyer did not respond to earlier messages seeking comment.
Santos has been charged on a 13-count indictment, including seven counts of wire fraud, three counts of money laundering, one count of theft of public funds, and two counts of making materially false statements to the House of Representatives.
I'm wondering how he'll explain the 1,200 payments of $199.99, two cents below the threshold in which receipts would be required.
He fits in well with the GOP, though.
