On Monday's Special Report on Fox News, alleged "neutral, serious news side" host Brett Baier claimed that President Biden using his presidential powers to give students much-needed debt relief was equivalent to Trump fomenting a coup and inciting an insurrection to overthrow the US government in 2020.
After reading a portion of Liz Cheney's new book, Baier, playing a good Trump defender, quoted a Wall Street Journal opinion article (but claimed an op-ed was not MAGA related or published by an outlet owned by his boss the Murdochs) that made the fictitious case that Biden using duly elected powers echoed Trump's traitorous behavior.
"We know what he will do, he's already done it," Cheney replied. "We saw what he did when --- tried to seize power in 2020 and of course January 6. And he tells us every day."
Baier continued to push on with his bothsiderist nonsense. Cheney vehemently disagreed.
"Right. But what about the point it made in this op-ed, specifically and I understand what you’re saying about the former president, what you feel about what would happen," Baier replied.
"But you haven’t been vocal about President Biden’s executive orders to cancel student loans, ban evictions, mandate COVID vaccines. ”
Cheney tried to respond, but Baier made sure to put up a Fox News graphic trying to paint President Biden as a dictator by using actual constitutional powers.
I'm no fan of Liz Cheney, but this was Lady Macbeth masterful, as she is fully capable of being: Cheney brought up Baier's own book describing the importance of the peaceful transfer of power after an election.
BAM. That set Bret back. "It's not about me," he replied. Why not, Bret? Isn't your book on the record?
The former Republican Congresswoman then finally nailed the Fox News host by reiterating how Trump tried to seize power illegally.
Baier then changed subjects to the favorite beltway topic... poll numbers! Yay!
