Fox's Martha MacCallum pushed Lara Trump on when Texas Senate candidate Ken Paxton is finally, if ever, going to see some of that MAGA Inc. PAC money coming his way.

From some of the reporting in Politico this week, it seems the answer could be never: MAGA Inc. sits on campaign cash as donors indicate only Trump can save Paxton:

President Donald Trump’s super PAC continued to sit on its $400 million war chest in July, according to new spending figures, refusing to open the coffers to boost Republican candidates.

The MAGA Inc. super PAC didn’t even spend in Texas, where GOP Senate nominee Ken Paxton is essentially in a dead heat with Democrat James Talarico and where Republican donors say Trump bears the responsibility to finance the campaign needed to keep the state from flipping. [...]

The MAGA Inc. super PAC added over $3 million in cash on hand since the beginning of July, increasing the war chest to over $403 million, according to FEC figures released late Thursday. The PAC didn’t spend on behalf of any candidates last month, continuing a trend from June.

Nor has the super PAC spent any money on independent expenditures, the primary way it can support candidates, in the weeks since. Outside spending is reported to the FEC in close to real time, and MAGA Inc. has not made any this year except for $18,000 on text messages in March for a Georgia special election.

The lack of direct spending on candidates comes as some Republicans told POLITICO last month they are worried that the president and his PAC are waiting too long to get involved with competitive races.

Here's the exchange from this Wednesday's The Story with Martha MacCallum, where Trump's daughter-in-law tried to assure the host that the money should be coming at any time:

MACCALLUM: Lara, what is your take on this Texas race? One of the complaints has been that the Trump PAC, you know, is flush with cash — $400 million — and hasn't committed it to this race for the candidate that the president says he supports right there.

TRUMP: Well, I think you’ll certainly see a lot of that money spent, and there’s no doubt this president will be out campaigning in Texas and all over the country, Martha. I mean, we know that Donald Trump is the king of campaigning, right?

And he loves a good rally, and we will definitely see him out there. But the Texas race is interesting. You know, this is an important race, not just for the Senate seat, but for what else happens in Texas and the down-ballot races as well.

Obviously, Texas has been solidly red for a long time. They have not elected a Democrat to a Senate seat there since 1988. And so the fear is that if the GOP turnout isn’t high enough, it’s not just about the Senate seat — it’s obviously about House races and the state legislature.

And so you have a state like Texas that has, again, been a very Republican state for a long time, that if we’re not able to turn people out in that state, it could look very different. It might not just impact the Senate and the balance of power in Congress, but the state as a whole.

And so, look, the president is going to be all in on this. He will definitely be out campaigning, and you will for sure see that money spent. I think they just want it to go to its highest and best use, and use it at the appropriate time.

Xitter users were skeptical, as am I.
