I was on his radio show at 11 pm last night talking about the Iranian hostage thing for the best part of an hour, and I have got precisely two e-mails on it. A radio appearance usually inspires a dozen or so. Get some listeners, Alan. One correspondent, though sympathetic to my point of view, says I sounded "heated and incoherent." I wouldn't be a bit surprised. Late evening is not the time of day when I'm at my most coherent.
I'm still not up to speed physically--hence I haven't been posting as much, but it was good to go on the air for a bit...

The wonderfully named Chief Air Marshall Jock Stirrup was on in full uniform and reiterated that any speculation in the press about what did or didn't happen (ie; speculating that the sailors were trying to send coded messages in those speeches (referring to the boat by number rather than, as usual, by name, for example) _while they were still in captivity_ was extremely irresponsible, and any question of their bravery or motives is reprehensible; you only have to look at their faces and listen to their voices, he said, and you can draw your own conclusions (that's pretty much a quote). So I think the Brits are aware 'some' people are questioning the Brits' bravery, but it's not going down well here.
