The Australian Jewish News has just done (23 January 2009) a similar hatchet job on British playwright Harold Pinter, who died a few weeks ago aged 78. Many of the nasty things said by Fox News could well have been repeated in the AJN story -- that Pinter became "rich and irrelevant" etc etc. Why the bile? While acknowledging that Pinter was "a great playwright", the obituary said that he had only recognized his Jewishness in order to "attack Israel" for its treatment of the Palestinians.
