New Intel Report: Al Qaeda Has Returned Stronger Than Ever

So while we're bogged down in the civil war we created in a country that never attacked us, al Qaeda is regrouping essentially unchallenged.

AZ Family:

U.S. intelligence analysts have concluded al-Qaida has rebuilt its operating capability to a level not seen since just before the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, The Associated Press has learned.

Counterterrorism analysts produced the document, titled "Al-Qaida better positioned to strike the West." The document focuses on the terror group's safe haven in Pakistan and makes a range of observations about the threat posed to the United States and its allies, officials said.

Al-Qaida is "considerably operationally stronger than a year ago" and has "regrouped to an extent not seen since 2001," the official said, paraphrasing the report's conclusions. "They are showing greater and greater ability to plan attacks in Europe and the United States."

The group also has created "the most robust training program since 2001, with an interest in using European operatives," the official quoted the report as saying.

How can anyone argue with a straight face anymore that this war is beneficial to America's security? We have created an entire new generation of Islamic extremists and a failed state for them for fester in, we have decimated the readiness and moral of our armed forces, we have squandered hundreds of billions of dollars and our moral standing, we have strengthened Iran by allowing them to gain influence in Iraq, and we still haven't caught the people responsible for the attack that supposedly justifies it all. What kind of bizarre world are we living in?

IMPEACH NOW
for cryin' out loud

How do they know? Al Qaeda wasn't even on their GD radar pre-9/11. According to them.

Scare tactics. Arseholes

yeah, but who are these anonymous U.S. intelligence analysts. the AP article that appeared last night said that it was "the government" that said this. who is this "official".
are we reading the national enquirer? wtf. is it chertoff's gut feeling? or maybe that crow pie he ate for lunch

I bet you could superimpose the "al qaeda is stronger" messages and "increased risk" articles directly over Bush's approval rating and find a correlation. They've been wanting to attack us more than ever since Iraq, it is just that the leaks tend to come out when the White House most needs it. They haven't done anything to prevent more attacks, and have certainly increased the likelihood with the "beat the beehive" policy towards the Middle East.

It's coming, just like they want it to. Let's all get our RealID's and prepare for the police state.

There isn't a such thing as al-qaeda, or the boogeyman either for that matter.

So why do the right-wing knuckle-draggers not see this as total failure by Bush? They'll choose to see this as vindication of Bush's insanity, that we need to 'Stay the course' or some other stupidity, anything but what it truly is. We are going to be successfully attacked again due to the Republican Party not caring one bit about the health and welfare of our nation and the Republican traitors will then rejoice at being able to inflict more harm on our country in the name of fighting terrorism.

Not true. Bush's gut says so (unless it's indigestion).

Oh please how long are they going to keep feeding this Bullsh*t to the American Public.

I'm suprised we're overdue our Two Minutes of Hate Al Qaeda Video also.

Bush’s gut says so (unless it’s indigestion).

Speaking of, here's to hoping for a pretzel of mercy, like the one that almost got him before. If only Cheney wasn't half robot, his heart would have given out long ago. The one he's got is cold hard metal.

and ppl wonder why the tourist level in the states have dropped?
who the hell would want to go visit there and be on autopilot ´´your a terrorist´´!

Its high time this type of shit news is stopped from being broadcast. All it did was make charlie the tuna, owners alittle more wealthy along with carnation powderd milk company. As for the duct tape and plastics folks, pretty sure they too saw a huge spike in thier stocks today!!!

Yeah, and we can't even get our own to stay in line.

I'm surprised Bush hasn't come out and said, "Hey we've only lost 3,610 American Soldiers in Iraq. Now compare that to Vietnam. By that yardstick Iraq is a stunning success. We just have to stay the course".

Pathetic.

Thanks Paddy for that link!!!!

and thats what iam talking about. what happend to the 100 day promise?

It wont be a terror attack that downfalls america, it will be the damn politicans and thier need for greed !

Site monitor, I have to do this now and then.

Where's the link to Iran?

Wait for it...

This grim assessment, part of an upcoming National Intelligence Estimate to be discussed at a White House gathering Thursday, paints a picture of a resurgent Al Qaeda. Almost six years after the September 11 attacks, the study suggests a failing report card for a Bush administration distracted by the war in Iraq and unable to pressure the Musharraf government over Al Qaeda's free reign in the northwest territories of Pakistan.

That's a damning indictment indeed for President Bush's global war on terror. With the Bush Doctrine of no safe havens, preemptive war and democracy in tatters, the President remains focused on staying the course in Iraq at all costs. In Washington, House Minority Leader John Boehner calls Senate GOP rebels on Iraq "wimps" and Tony Snow slanders the press corps as "defeatist." Meanwhile, Homeland Security chief Michael Chertoff announces his "gut feeling" about the increased threat of terror attacks within the United States.

Meanwhile, the resurgence of Al Qaeda on their watch continues unabated...

Nope. There's just two teenagers marching across the U.S. at this moment to D.C. to protest this War.

AlQaeda is in Pakistan and looney LIEberman and Lyin' levin want to bomb Iran.

3600+ DEAD

30,000+ wounded, injured, sickened or missing

obviously the shrub never gave a schitt about saddam or osama, just the oil!
terror is the last thing to cross his mind because his only plan for terror is martial law!

what will it take to impeach?

So, wait. What's the current official story? That Bush has done such a great job that al Queda has been weakened? Or al Queda is still very strong so we need to keep our soldiers dying in Iraq?

I can't keep the bullsh!t straight...

ppl here have asked me about a another ´´magic bullet ´´theory.

i walk away fast from em!!!!!!!!!!

Al Quaida? What did Cheney make a few phone calls or something?

Ron @ 18:

thanks

How can anyone argue with a straight face anymore that this war is beneficial to America’s security?

The answer is very simple: George W. Bush.

The Champ is out.

wheres dick cheney ? hes been more hushed the the DC madame lately.
Perhaps the prez put his sorry ass out to pasture with a stfu order.

or maybe not,,,,

The spinsters heads have got to be dizzy. I know that every night I go to bed with a headache trying to keep up to date with their spins.

all that GWB cares about is $ and stock % for his ass kissing ´´friends´´!
the fact of the matter is this, even the pentegon is sorely screwing over our troops with crappy body armour or orders that didint arive on time due to a certian ´´company ´´ hired to do so! so that only leaves me to believe this, the only thing that came from this war,, was that folks died for the NEW AMERICAN DREAM! its called corperate greed and every politician out there is in it for the money!

http://www.military.com/NewsContent/0,13319,142097,00.html?ESRC=eb.nl

now just what the hell is the reason behind this and why arent some ppls asses being held to the fire??

There's no doubt a lot more people hate the u.s..
Can anyone blame them?

Bush "if you create an illusion by repetition & fear you can do the following:
a) create a Fascist government with little resistance.
b) Demonize a people (Iraqis and Iranians) and make them crazy by killing them by the hundred of thousands and plunge them into desperation by also destroying their livlihoods.
c) you can then take over their oil resources as your own.
d) you can pretend a dead man is alive (Osama)
e) and use false emergency to subjugate and ensnare your own countrymen.

And Bush just says that it is not true. I'm burned out with these assholes. I can't keep up. Of course I already know they are fuck wads so here is no worry as far as I am concerned.

I'm in agreement with the folks that says this is a scare tactic to improve Bush by pretending to protect us. How can be be so sure about numbers and be so clueless about where they are and how to defeat them? The NIE specifically states that they're in the mountains of Pakistan. We are looking for the man and organization that is responsible for the deaths of 3000 innocent Americans. And they wont threaten Musharraf to do anything? We wont send half a dozen drones over there to bomb the fuck out of them. Are we afraid to anger the muslim community? IT'S BEEN DONE!

This is nothing more than Cheney/Rove/Bush scarring us into submission. They'll protect us. And brain dead people will trust them....again.

Oh, great, just spit out their propagandizing for the next war.... At least say something sarcastic enough that people know you're not falling for this shit. Look. It's up to US to shove this blather back down their throats, not trumpet it to the people. It only serves the warmonger criminals who should be in JAIL, not the White House.

And oh, yes. Steal attention away from your own crimes by a cooperative media.

Chimp is a complete and total failure.

House OKs plan to withdraw US troops
AP - 40 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - The Iraqi government is achieving only spotty military and political progress, the Bush administration conceded Thursday in an assessment that war critics quickly seized on as confirmation of their dire warnings. Within hours, the House voted to withdraw U.S. troops by spring.

Right. Sure. For what the third time now?

We don't even have a Government. Just a bunch of money and power crazed nuts playing musical chairs at the feeding trough.

No way....we are "fightin' 'em over there, so we don't have to fight 'em here".....do ya suppose they have secret drawings of these Al Keeda terrists, like those ones Powell showed the UN?

New Intel Report: Al Qaeda Has Returned Stronger Than Ever

And they've bicycles of mass destruction to follow you home.

Be afraid.

One of the problems is the lack of middle-east specialists at the very top. They act as if this is Iwo Jima, 1945. Condi Rice spent her life studying the soviets and Bush and the rest only know what little they do know from partying with the ultra-rich oil leaders.

Do we listen to our allies in the region who try and tell us what works and what doesnt? No. I mean, theyve been fighting these guys for longer than us. Militarily and at the grass roots level.

bubba @ 42:

You'd think that if she had studied the Soviets that she would have realized that a battle on their home turf would never succeed, creating a war that lasts for years, with no end in sight.

Wait a second, perhaps her knowledge did come in handy...

Hate to sound pessimistic, but I'm thinking the damage is done as far as Jihadi recruitment goes. Whether we stay in Iraq or go, we've stirred up a shitstorm that won't die down for decades. Either way, the mullahs will look at the mess and point the finger at the US. And rightly so.

The US to its citizens:

"We have nothing but fear itself."

So give up the last of your freedoms ASAP.

But we've killed nearly 800,000 thousand Iraqis! Doesn't that count for something?

BaScOmBe @ 22:

800,000 dead Iraqis

4.2 million Iraqi refugees

So what happens if all of the US troops leave Iraq? We should not have invaded. The country was lied to. I agree. But now what? If US troops are pulled out entirely at this stage, doesn't Iraq become an even more vicious civil war with far greater Iraqi casualties? (Not to mention the possibility of invasion by neighbours and war spreading across the Middle East).

One possible response is "fuck 'em, they ain't us". Another is to accept that the US may have some responsibility to fix the mess we caused. Another administration could conceivable go to the UN, cap in hand, and ask for international assistance. This administration cannot afford to admit that it screwed up and probably would not get any assistance from the UN anyway (after deliberately spitting on the UN and international opinion).

with bushco, al qaida recruitment goes up and u.s. military recruitment goes down.

hahaha, defeatocrats! Only the conservatives know hot to protect us from the evildoer IslamoFascists! :D What a joke...

Yeah, I agree with that. The damage is done on that front. I dont agree with those who think we should leave, I agree with the Iraq Study Group in that we should stop the foot patrols and segue to training, support and special operation strikes only.

We killed them directly? I dont think so. We killed some directly and created conditions for others to be killed but at some point you have to stop treating iraqis like retarded children. They are actively pushing power drills into each others heads and thats on them as well.

There isn't a such thing as al-qaeda, or the boogeyman either for that matter.

This was created by the American and Pakistani gov in the 80's to fight Russia but it was the Taliban. Al queda was just a name they made up in the late 90's. They are a creating of the Regan government..nice huh. I think all this is bullshit just like you do. Osama probably had very little or nothing to do with 9/11 as we all know that was a false flag terror attack. People are just in denial.

MooreSucks
instead of making a dumbass offhanded comment, why dont you explain how this report proves that bush knows what the fuck he is doing???
how can we be fighting a war on terrrorism and al quaia, keep being told that the terrorists are on the run, and yet, al quaida has reformed to pre 9/11 levels??
im so sick of every wingnut and neocon in this country
the fact is, every fucking one of you is a pervert and a traitor to the country and the constitution...and that includes all my wingnut friends...may every one of you go straight to fucking hell
and mods, go ahead and delete these comments....but i just had to vent

God Dam these bull-sh1t artists. I feel like I'm living in the novel 1984. Only using 'Double Think' can it understand how we are winning the "War on Terror" AND "Our Enemy" is growing (winning). Too bad the Democratic party is PATHETIC and WEAK. The Religious Right needs to go the way of the Taliban!

bubba @42
"... lack of middle east specialist at the very top."

The US has been screwing around in the middle east since the early 50's when the CIA orchestrated the 1953 coup in Iran.

That was over 50 years ago and there are still no middle east specialists in Washington ?

Nothing the US has done in those 50 years has really worked in the long run.

You always hear comments like " we did not realize there was a possibility of sectarian violence." from the so called experts. Christ , my sons ( in high school) understand what the hell is going on .

Historically speaking the Middle East is a basket case. Historically speaking it is totally irrelevant if the US pulls out of Iraq.

The US invaded Afghanistan and chased the Taliban and Al Quida into the mountains and now the Taliban are back. So now what is to be done? US troops duke it out with the Taliban for the next 40 years. Iraq is worse.

Al Qaeda Has Returned Stronger Than Ever

"Returned" from where? They never left the Oval Office.

Why did all of us common folk know this years ago?

Why did we know that the war in Iraq has only worsened our situation and made us so many more enemies that we much less secure now than before 9/11?

We do all this complaining, all this poisonous handwringing . . . and yet the Democratic Congress continues to cave, partisan politics remain de rigeur, and we've seen no real progress since Jan.

I don't know what we can do -- all of us who are so distressed -- but talk about it.

There are thousands of organizations asking for our money, our effort, but I have the sense that unless we can get something going in Congress -- or in the "media" -- we'll never make a difference.

We, the people, need to do something because our representative government is in shambles, our President would be king, our Vice President is the reincarnation of Machievelli, our judiciary has been repeatedly raped and our Congress has the spine of a jellyfish.

Letter to Senator Bill Nelson sent this morning and posted all over myspace:
How could you let down this country, your party, and all my friends in Nebraska. I have been on the phone all morning with more than a dozen of my friends asking them to explain why their Senator let the country down? They have no explanation except that they now must find another candidate to support in the Democratic Party. I will admit, that I don't know much about you, and because I live in another state I can't vote for or against you, but I know a great deal of people in your home state that now plan to organize against your re-election. You have let down my friends, and the American people. Worse than flip-flopping, you have now displayed a spinelessness that must be rooted out of the Democratic Party... shame on you for switching your position on defunding Dick Cheney's office. When we finally get a chance to force his hand.. you let him off the hook. Shame on you for being the deciding and turn coat vote.
