Bree Walker told me, on the air, that Conyers said that all he needs is three more Congress Members backing impeachment, and he'll move on it, even without Pelosi. I asked whether that meant specifically moving from 14 cosponsors of H Res 333 to 17, or adding 3 to the larger number of Congress Members who have spoken favorably of impeachment but not all signed onto bills. Bree said she didn't know and that Conyers had declined to take any questions.
Either way, this target of three more members seems perfectly doable. It's safe to assume, I think, that we're talking about impeaching Cheney first. But, even if Conyers is talking about Bush, the target is perfectly achievable.

You can't impeach Cheney first. He has no constitutional powers and hence no case can be legally built against him. Despite the massive distaste for Cheney, the impeachment process goes to the top. Cut off the head of the dragon and the animal will be severely wounded and die. Plus, it it the legally correct thing to do. It must be Bush. It must be now. It must be done. Nothing personal. It's just business. The business of democracy.

Speaking of Conyers....I did recheck C&L's thread of July 20th @ 11:02AM PST
and therein it is reported that Conyers on that date sent a letter to Felding/Bolton
telling them that they MUST reply to his inquiry regarding Harriett Meirs failure to
show up for testimony(as required by an official subpeona) and should they not
respond by 10:00AM TODAY, he would take appropriate action. Well, it is way,
way past 10:00AM and as yet I have not seen a single word/article or otherwise
as to what "action" Cornyers is taking. Another thinly veiled threat by the Dems?
This, in my opinion, is getting beyond the realm of ridiculous. DO SOMETHING
I suggest tar 'n feathers. I would recommend chicken feathers for a chicken hawk.

No, this must be stopped BEFORE they leave office. The danger is compounded by the damage they have done by stretching the powers not entitled to the President or VP and their amazing powergrab that has completely thrown off the balance of the branches of government. If nothing is done NOW, then they pass that off to the next President - no matter WHO it is and they aren't going to give up those powers. They only expand on them and try to get more.

The Administration is blocking all investigations and attempts at oversight, they are not cooperating with ANY subpoenas, they are covering every illegal act and blocking all judicial avenues, and now they are trying to expand this war.
With each new "Executive Order" it becomes clear that this Administration is preparing to become a dictatorship (short the trigger to set it all in motion - they are no hinting it is coming).
Nancy Pelosi MUST stop and reevaluate the situation and rethink her decision and base it totally on the Constitution and what is best for the future of this nation that she is in a position to protect and defend. She is SWORN to defend and protect the CONSTITUTION, not the Democratic party.

Impeachment is rectifying governmental wrongs today and well beyond '08. Pelosi does not become VP. THe President chooses someone who has to be approved by Congress.

Even if the House of Representatives does manage to pass articles of impeachment against Cheney and Bush, it would still have to be voted on by the Senate, where the Democrats haved a razor thin majority and idiots like Sen. Ben Nelson and Joe Lieberman (who claims that he's an independent) among their ranks. The odds are that Bush will survive it just like Clinton. Once again, the American voters have let the country down by failing to elect a substantial majority of Democrats in the Senate last year.

What you miss is the republicans run all branches of government. Specific tactics have changed but little else.
The only purpose impeachment can serve at this point is to influence the election of '08. If it were timed so that the trial in the senate occured in October '08 - a democratic October surprise - then all the crimes could be forced onto TV just prior to the election in November.
You see, the republicans underestimated the turnout in the off year election of '06 and undercaged/understole the election. (It is likely the democrats actually won more seats ...) They wont make that mistake twice. Unless there is a major event - like an October surprise - the congress could even return to the republicans via caging/stealing - that hasnt been stopped, and if you think it has I would personally appreciate the references.
Of course I would impeach simply because it is a lawfull response to criminal behavior and the implementation of non-constitutional monorchical political theories. Kucinich is the canary in the coal mine here - and he is choking to death, however.
The democrats are triangulating unpriciples thugs. Unless the see a 'move' (and they really arent good gamesmen) they wont act. An October trial would be a 'move' but I dont think the democrats are honorable enough or brave enough to make it.

So, please check my logic, not specific rules/laws, but logic:
Congress is within their rights to demand information, its their job to review the actions, providing a check and oversight on the executive branch. If the executive refuses to give requested information, they prevent the legislative from doing their job, and the checks and balances function of the division of power is broken, on purpose, which is a clear breach of the intent, and the set up in the constitution?
On a side note, wasn't Capone busted for tax evasion?

The most recent national poll on Impeachment showed that only 45% of the people support it. That means that a strong majority of the nation does not, and many of them will rally to support Bush.
Force Steny Hoyer and the Blue Dogs to vote with their own majority to provide no more War Funds for Bush's Iraq Lunacy. An impeachment marathon will make Bush stronger and prolong his Iraqmire. Many more will die while we waste our time on something that will not end the war, and will not get at least the 17 Republican Senate votes needed to oust him.
Cut to the chase. Cut off the war funds ASAP. Go after the Blue Dogs and Steny Hoyer, Majority Leader. Tell them to stay on the Democratic Party porch where the voters expect them to be.
