Russ Feingold on The Young Turks

Russ Feingold went on The Young Turks today to talk to Ben and Cenk about his censure resolutions and chided Senate Democrats for their inaction:

CENK: Senator Hillary Clinton has called President Bush one of the worst Presidents in history. Senator Harry Reid, the Majority Leader, has as well. If you don't take action against the worst President in history, how will history judge Senate Democrats?

FEINGOLD: I would think harshly, and I think the senators need to re-evaluate what they're saying. How can you make that statement and do nothing? You're just supposed to say, "Okay, good, he's going to be gone in a few months"? That's not the job of governance. And we are trying to reverse his policies, but when they completely ignore the results of the election. We have got to reflect as a Congress this outrage and the outrage of the American people...

Stocks plunge; Dow falls more than 300
AP - 7 minutes ago

NEW YORK - Wall Street suffered one of its worst losses of 2007 Thursday, leading a global stock market plunge as investors succumbed to months of worry about the mortgage and corporate lending markets. The Dow Jones industrials closed down more than 310 points after earlier skidding nearly 450.

Wonder if any suckers lost everything in this most recent Pump and Dump?

Obviously Russ Feingold is NOT a Hillary Clinton fan. Rather much more like a Dennis Kuchinich supporter.

Your support is starting to break up Hillary. Back-peddeling ain't gonna help much. Care to start another fight?

Don't anyone tell Colbert but I also heart Russ Feingold too. He can do no wrong in my book. This is exactly the person we need to be the next president. Sadly he's too smart to want to have that job after this administration walks out and leaves giant piles of fecal matter both here and around the world.

He is the one person in the senate that I trust to always do the right thing. I might not always agree with him, but he's smart enough that I will defer to his opinion.

Feingold, as a member of the Senate, can NOT impeach. That responsibility belongs to the House. But assuming the House does do their job and brings articles of Impeachment to the Senate, do you honestly believe that Feingold wouldn't vote to convict and remove from office? I can't.

Maybe I missed this earlier or something, but MSNBC is saying the head of the FBI contridicted some of Gonzo's testimony. Was that out there before?

Tony Snow was just on FOX talking about gonzo and stuff. Man, Tony looks awful. He looks like he has aged about 20 years. For whatever you think of him, the guy doesn't look good and I'm afraid his cancer is doing more to him than it first appeared. He probably shouldn't be working and be at home taking care of himself.

Ever since the 2000 elections, Bush Admin. has eliminated checks and balances.
The courts had controlled the passions of the people just because Gore won the election. The reason: Bush wanted the war desperately and that he got it in a tyrannical way.

"The stunning announcement by the U.S. Supreme Court yesterday came only minutes after Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Lieberman accused Republicans in Florida of resorting to "the rule of the mob" and intimidating Miami-Dade County into stopping its recount of about 654,000 ballots."

I love the stance that Senator Feingold is taking. The Democrats by and large are trying to tell us that the stain of Bush being the worst president in U.S. history should be all the accountability we need. Bullshit! The Democrats need to do something about this, and I respect Senator Feingold's pursuit of censure in the Senate simply because he can't pursue impeachment. However, I do wish that he would call for the House to vote for impeachment to begin. I wish he'd take Speaker Pelosi to task for her indifference and her spinelessness when it comes to foreclosing our ability to impeach the worst president in history.

You don't impeach the pResident for being "the worst" or because he's "a lying Douchebag" or because he's "and incompetent Asshole."

US Constitution, Article 2, Section 4:

"The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors."

Now, I don't think we can prove treason or bribery. But, a flat refusal to enforce the laws of the United States is certainly a high Crime. Shrub has already broken numerous statues, justified by his imaginary (and illegal) Signing Statements. Furthermore, Shrub has bragged that he will not prosecute his lackies and chums for contempt of congress, libel, nor even if they are convicted His Magesty will give them a "get out of jail free" card.

Now, Dick Cheney is probably wide open for a bribery conviction, and he has abused his constitutional powers most obsenely. Now that Haliburton has fled the United States in anticipation of a Repug disaster in 2008, I wonder if Dead-Eye Dick has registered as a foreign agent yet? Probably, Treason can't be proved because you need 2 witnesses to each act and since this administration is closer to the Mafia than anything I like to see in government, that ain't gonna happen.

It is troubling that the phrase "The Young Turks" is more and more becoming an acceptable name for a "liberal" talk show. The name of this show is taken directly from The Young Turks who, upon gaining control of the Ottoman Empire, orchestrated the murder of over 1 million Armenians during WWI. Though the Armenian Genocide is unknown to many Americans, Cenk Uygur is well aware of this history and is on record as a denier of the Genocide. The very name of his show is a deliberate and constant twist of the knife directed at the surviving families of those murdered by The Young Turks. Yet, somehow, the term is bandied about, for the most part, without notice or comment.

If as many educated, progressive Americans were aware of The Young Turks' massacres of 1915, the show "The Young Turks" would be as acceptable as a show entitled "The Khmer Rouge."

I do not understand all this praise for Feingold.

Merely a few days ago, Sen. Feingold was lambasted ON THIS BLOG for agreeing with Pelosi that Chimpeachment is not worth the effort.

From C&L's own post, fer Pete's sake:
http://www.crooksandliars.com/2007/07/22/senator-feingold-to-introduce-b...

Another milquetoast, namby-pamby, wishy-washy position for symbolic action, "censure", which equals inaction.
Archetypal Democrat behavior, talking out of both sides of his mouth.

Feingold reminds me of Arlen Specter with this censure BS.

Feingold Turns to Dross
2007-07-17 By Dave Lindorff http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/?q=node/24766

In a diary entry on Daily Kos, Sen. Russ Feingold (D-WI), one of the most consistently progressive liberals in the Senate, surrendered to the Democratic Party Establishment, with an embarrassing string of lame and tired excuses for not standing for impeachment of the Bush/Cheney regime.

Feingold, who once took the lead in opposing Bush’s and Cheney’s abuses of power and their undermining of the Constitution with a censure motion filed in the Senate, wrote in the DailyKos diary that while he agreed that Bush and Cheney “may well have” committed “impeachable offenses,” he nonetheless did not support impeachment.

Address Crimes When Crimes Occurs

A law enforcement officer does not stop arresting criminals one hour before their shift is over because they want to leave it for the next shift. Russ Feingold is right the Senate and the Congress must address crimes committed by this administration when they occur.

Those who make the argument it's futile to proceed with impeachment proceedings because Bush is on the way out give this president license to commit more questionable actions. If I were in Bush's shoes, I would be licking my chops as I commit every questionable action I could. After all, I would be "on the way out."

For whatever reasons, this do nothing attitude can lead to a crisis in our ability to deliver justice. Justice is something that should be administers when it happens not when it is expedient to do so. This president must be impeached for very high crimes and misdemeanors.

I cannot explain to you how grateful I am to see this comment here. "fiver", I don't know if you are Armenian, but I have been thinking this same thing for a very, very long time. My mother is Persian Armenian, her father escaped at 9 years old (alone, on a donkey) from his village, Urmiyeh in northern Iran. The Turks controlled this area and they massacred everyone who was left behind. It is painful, and sickening to me, every time I see or hear "The Young Turks" mentioned on Air America and elsewhere -- it's as if Cenk Uygur is trying to taunt any Armenians who may be listening, to let us know that Turkey will NEVER acknowledge their guilt and that we continue to be insignificant in the eyes of the West. It is unbelievable to me, as Uygur is very progressive and I agree with him most of the time. I really wish there were enough people like you who would be willing to contact Air America management & The Young Turks through their site...
