Firedoglake: Unacceptable Vacancies Put Us At Risk
By Logan Murphy Saturday Jul 28, 2007 1:47pm
Via Firedoglake:
The Republican party continues to put lockstep, craven ass-covering ahead of national interest when it comes to the Department of Justice. But this is simply, flat out, unacceptable:
Notwithstanding Mr. Gonzales’s assurances, other department officials said that, by several measurements, the work of the department has been severely disrupted by his troubles, especially in recent months. There are vacancies through the senior ranks….
Among the 93 United States attorneys, who serve as the chief federal prosecutors for their regions, there are 24 vacancies. The White House has announced nominations for only six of those offices, which means that several of the jobs may remain unfilled for the rest of the Bush administration. (emphasis mine)
This is not an approval from Congress problem – there simply have been no nominees put forward by the Bush Administration to fill the jobs. Out of the 24 open USAtty postitions, only six have potential nominees identified, none of whom have been sent up to the Hill as yet, only announced. This puts our nation at risk. Period. The biggest vacancy in the Justice Department is between Gonzo's ears.
but gonzo is working for the children
What? The summer school classes of Regent University's law school can't be tapped to send squads of crazy fundamentalist Christian law flunkouts from their fourth-rate school to fill all those positions?
Gonzo can't quit.. He is the firewall, the gatekeeper to Bush's treasure-trove of illegal activities. Bush cannot AFFORD to have him resign.
If you were the criminal Bush administration, would you like a to add even a single other Federal prosecutor to the roster? If he could get away with it, Baby Caligula would get rid of ALL the prosecutors.
But this is simply, flat out, unacceptable:
Thats what I said in Nov 2000 when all hell broke loose in Florida
Worst. President. Ever.
That Giant Sucking Sound of the drain of the bathtub slurping the last drop of America as we knew it Pre Bush Jr.
They must be running out of zombies.
just goes to show us what some legal minds are thinking.....no way let me outta hear...and Purvis I like the baby Caligula moniker for dipshit....good one
The rubberstamping Repukelickers are every bit as much to blame as Bush for this fiasco. They all need to go. Hell is waiting.
It's going to be hard to find someone that will be confirmed by the congress. When all they know is criminals, they can't think of anyone the could be confirmed.
Maybe we need a Theme.
'America Held Hostage' or something.
Something really snappy that doesn't require the high risk of civil disobedience.
'Your Either With Bush or Against Us' . . ?
'All We Are Saying, Is Give Murtha a Chance' . . ?
Never mind
There is still the possible issue of USA's in a politicized Justice Department that please this whitehouse and - as a consequence - are kept.
The issue may not be those that were fired but those that remain and the harm they do. Surely those that remain will follow Bush's instructions and not prosecute contempt.
I'm not certain Fitzpatrick wasnt harmfull. He was given a very important case and bungled it - or perhaps it wasnt bungled.
As a question to legal minds here, might it have been possible to plea Libby in such a way that he accepted the verdict putting him beyond clemency?
Libbys probably golfing at the Country Club today.
I am convinced one of BushCo's main goals (being a government hater) was the deconstruction of government. If true, this may be his only success.
El Cid @ 3:
Thanks for the reminder...had almost forgotten about the LARGE number of Regent grads
who were annointed/appointed/selected to serve in the DoJ as approved by the "most
Christian" of all presidents...that is supposed to contain some humor..hope you can find.
Awwwww! They can't find anyone to drink the kool-aid. Working for the Bush Administration ain't exactly a resume enhancement.
myiq2xu @ 18:
They can always get a job at Faux after they screw up the country.

Does this seem like a good spot for Recess Appointments? Leahy and company watch out.
Snidley Whiplash and his cronies are waitin' 'n watchin'...Chimpy 'n Chinny, et al, cannot do
anything correctly, Soooooo? Krazy Karl would cheat on his own mother if it would help his
daddy Chinny 'n uncle Shrub,er Chimpy. DO NOT RECESS
Who would want to taint their career by working for this administration? "I worked in the monkey boy administration" on a resume just doesn't have any shine.
Jimsy @ 23:
How about this as a game plan...Go on vacation(into Recess); but then ALL the Dem's
return at an unknown and unannounced date, and vote for Impeachement and/or perjury of Gonzo,Miers, Bolton, bush, and cheney...What's wrong w/that program if bush can
make "recess" appointments?
Bolton
Just impossible to find ONE honest Rethug. to fill any vacancies.
The only thing Gonzo doesn't say to make this complete are the phrases, "Yeah, that's it", "Yeah that's the ticket..."
I'm only interested in one more vacancy at the JD.
Where's Al Neri when you need him?
Justice is not only being denied it is being starved to death at the same time it is being raped up the bunghole.
Who the fuck want's to commit career suicide by working for "Gonzo the Moron"? Bush has quite a few unfilled positions in his admin, and no one wants to be associated with the imbicile......
"All night Senate sessions going after Gonzales "....F*#king hilarious!!!

Can you say RECESS APPOINTMENTS?
Get with the program people. They are waiting for the Senate to go on vacation, and then the slots will be covered.
The Presidential things Bush has abused or totally taken out of context to the reality they had originally formed into:
Recess appointments
Executive Privilege
Signing statements
Control of State's Militias (National Guard)
Please add what you wish.
budget surplus turned to record deficit - check.
country and congress polarized - check.
secret energy task force meetings - check.
once strong military stretched thin - check.
moral standing in the world diminished - check.
constitution trampled - check.
torture - check.
illegal wiretaps - check.
Katrina debacle - check.
incompetent cronies placed on the courts and in positions of power - check.
environment trashed - check.
demonizing, scapegoating, lying - check.
middle east in shambles - check.
Al-Queda in Iraq - check.
Justice department compromised and short staffed - check.
With a year and half left an office, there's more missions yet to be accompished.
Ruthless People @ 35:
...National Guard overseas unable to protect the homeland against hurricanes, floods and tornados - check.
I though I left something off the checklist.
Ruthless People @ 36:
"Quivering sellouts Pelosi and Ried, Leahy following the old rules like an obedient mule -
check"

someone needs to do some serious investigating of those empty slots to see who's running those shows. no doubt the 'acting' persons are just fine with the gonzo bozos, which means danger for the country, especially the election.
And firing people for not being "loyal Bushies" helps the vacancy problem, HOW exactly?
The most disturbing vacancy in the DOJ is between 'Berto's ears.
Gregory @ 1:
A tip o' the hat, and my apology, Gregory, I should have read the site before posting.
This is not an approval from Congress problem – there simply have been no nominees put forward by the Bush Administration to fill the jobs.
My suspicion is that the Bush administration long ago ran out of it's pool of candidates based on their passing a religious and ideological litmus test for consideration. All along the Bush administration has adopted the ideology of the American Enterprise Institute. That ideology means appointing officials based on their ideology. Not their competence. So now the entire federal government is run by incompetent people whose only qualification for their appointments were born again Christian world views.
carefulwiththatAXEeugene @ 2:
Gonzo protected a group of suits that turned a Texas boys prison into a sexual romper room. Me thinks that there is group of very sick men who like young boys lurking in the halls of power.
[Deleted. Save the conspiracy theories for your namesake]
[Deleted. Off topic. There are many sites to indulge in tin foil fetishes. This is not one of them.]
Uh...no. It means there will be 24 RECESS APPOINTMENTS next month.
Is the unacceptable vacancy between Gonzo's ears?
Gonzo is the sheriff, Bizarro is the president and the Law of the Jungle prevails in Washington DC. They lie, they destroy nations and lives, they oppress and they hide in the secret dark places. They do what is natural for wild brute beasts without any conscience or respect of right v. wrong. They act like there is no God, there is no Law, there is no accounting and there is no sentence against them for their guilt. If this is their world view as demonstrated by these constant abuses of power then why should we expect them to respect the US Constitution? IMPEACH NOW!! Get rid of the 'unitary executive' yellow dogs and send them to Guantanamo for a taste of what they have dished out.
I wonder... has an Attorney General ever been assassinated?
I thought that was one of the funniest things I have ever witnessed. Ithought I was watching a Saturday Night Live skit when Senator Spector told him , "lets see if we can find a question you can answer since we are not getting no where with this one".
I will say this , the republicans can keep on being silent, they are just digging their party into a deeper hole.
Go Clinton/Obama in '08
I think the only funnier moment captured on camera was when then Colts head coach Jim Mora Sr had a melt down. But atleast he was honest .
