175 killed in north Iraq bombings

Another day in Iraq:

At least 175 people were killed when three suicide bombers driving fuel tankers attacked a town, home to an ancient minority sect, in northern Iraq on Tuesday in one of the worst single incidents in the four-year-old war. Iraqi army Captain Mohammad al-Jaad said at least another 200 people were wounded in the bombings in separate Yazidi neighborhoods in the town of Kahtaniya, west of Mosel.

This is sad. I see that the surge is going GREEEEEEEEEEAT!

Seriously, this is just sad. This will go on for centuries wether we are there, or not.

Tweety Bird just announced this breaking news on Hardball as....

"Exciting news out of Iraq".

In the words of Eminem:

"Strap him with an Ak-47, let him go, fight his own war
Let him impress daddy that way
No more blood for oil, we got our own battles to fight on our own soil
No more psychological warfare, to trick us to thinking that we ain't loyal
If we don't serve our own country, we're patronizing a hero
Look in his eyes its all lies
The stars and stripes, they've been swiped, washed out and wiped
And replaced with his own face, Mosh now or die
If I get sniped tonight you know why,
Cause I told you to fight."

God, these people make me so ill.

Horrible. I think USA Today has egg on their face after their front-page headline from yesterday--especially the last paragraph--

Major attacks down 50% in Iraq

USA TODAY's Jim Michaels reports this morning that major attacks are down in Iraq.

The number of large-scale attacks has fallen 50% since the U.S. military began sending more troops to Baghdad and other cities, according to the story.

"The high-profile attacks — generally large bombs hitting markets, mosques or other 'soft' targets that produce mass casualties — have dropped to about 70 in July from a high during the past year of about 130 in March, according to the Multi-National Force — Iraq," Michaels reports.

Military officials say the drop has led to more assistance from tribal leaders and civilians, who have been passing along tips about militants and terrorist activity.

"Tribes and people are starting to stand up and fight back," says Brig. Gen. Mick Bednarek, deputy commander of the U.S. division north of Baghdad. "They are turning against al-Qaeda."

As we told you last week, public support appears to be growing for the so-called "surge" policy that has resulted in temporary increases in the number of American combat troops based in Iraq.

I guess someone forgot to tell the suicide bombers that the surge is working.

Jesus, what the hell has been done in our name and how do we ever make it up to those people for using their country, their front yard and their homes so we could fight our freakin' bloody war there so we wouldn't mess things up over here. It was a sin and it always will be.

Clearly, the surge is working. I know because Bill Kristol and Fixed Noise said so.

Carmikl's picture

My guess is that they'll find out that one of the bombers had a cousin who knew a guy whose uncle once sold a pair of shoes to someone who may have known a butcher who sold a lambchop to a member of al-Qaeda so it must be al-Qaeda affiliated.

"It’ll be interesting seeing who they blame for this. Can they blame al-Qaeda and Iran at the same time?"

They'll blame the terrorist enabling left/Democrats for it, surely. After all, it's somehow the fault of those who didn't support this invasion and advised against it for all the needless deaths.

He doesn't give two shits about all of his fuck ups, the trillion dollars we are paying for his lie based war, and the countless thousands of innocents who have lost life and limb because of his incompetence and deceit. This lying, lazy, incompetent, low life of a vacation president is enjoying his time off in Kennebunkport unfazed by all the death and destruction he has caused.

You have to look at this from the glass half full perspective. Now there are fewer people to protect and fewer suicide bombers to catch. Eventually, Iraq will be as peaceful as Antarctica.

A working process to rachet down the violence and create stability out of chaos, 'surg' or call it what you will... is not going to have these kinds of daily occurances of violence with deaths and maimings often numbering into the hundreds happening six months down the road of its implementation... Not a valid process, not anything approaching success... And given all the pros and cons... not likely to be any more successful in the long run than any of Bush's other braindead ideas.....Just not working, not going to work.....................Just won't....JD

every fucking time a politician (mccain) or a media person ( the 2 assholes just sent by the pentagon) go to iraq and come back and report how wonderful things are becoming, the insurgents then pull off an enormous attack which kills hundreds.

Isnt it something.

We have the same Main Stream Media and media pundits we had before the war started, the same media that was embedded, and the SAME media pundits that are still talking that got us into the mess in the first place.

The so called "media" does not give a consistent true voice to the Real experts, the soldiers, veterans, their familes, professors or global affair experts - the ones that have had it RIGHT from the beginning:

This is horrible, horrible news. 175 people slaughtered by four suicide bombers?

How many more innocents have to die for Bush's war OF terror? How can Bush sleep at night any more than any of these Islamic extremists who advocate this behavior?

God doesn't exist in a world where something as horrible as this can happen. Just pull the troops all out and let the chips fall where they may in Iraq. They don't want a democracy, just get out now and leave Iraq to it's own devices, capture and kill Osama Bin Laden and just let the crazies in the Middle East destroy each other.

The people in the Middle East are NUTS! So just let them sort this whole bloody mess out themselves. Screw Iraq and screw the Middle East. We are only making it worse by staying in that cesspool.

Too bad presdent dickwad didn't ask if the wanted democracy before he bombed the hell out of them. Actually, to bad he didn't give Americans the chance to keep their democracy. If the people in the middle east are nuts, what do you call the 60 or 80% of Americans that backed bushco while they thought you were winning?
The US has already screwed Iraq. It has already screwed the middle east. You broke it, you fix it. Get out and send money.

From Yahoo:

"This is a terrorist act and the people targeted are poor Yazidis who have nothing to do with the armed conflict," said Dhakil Qassim, mayor in the town of Sinjar near the attacks...

Even if it is Al Qaeda in Iraq who is responsible for this, it warrants mention that Al Qaeda wasn't in Iraq before George Bush was. And maybe George could have guarded that 380 tons of high explosives; or he could have tried to secure the borders a little better to prevent the Mujahadeen from moving in.

Ah yes, another website filled with brainwashed Americans.

It's a good thing the terrorists don't attack places where the US deosn't have troops (because the US cannot defend everywhere at once) in order to influence the gullible American minds into believing the surge isn't working. I mean, if we attack people that have nothing to do with anything, innocent civillians, the American people wouldn't possibly blame the Bush administration. No, as terrorists we can't use the news media in order to fight a political war that would undermine a military we cannot defeat.

Wake up will ya? If I could curse I would be right now. You people really sicken me with how gullible and foolish you are. Terrorists are winning, and it has nothing to do with the surge, Bush or the military. It has to do with your inability to see the whole picture. Then again, all my words are wasted, you'll find some way to call me a Bush lover (as if supporting the president of the US is an insult...which is frightening to realize our society has dropped into that hole) or some sort of war monger. In the end, anything I say will fall on deaf ears unwilling to listen because mine isn't the popular view.

At least that's what the Christian terrorists are claiming.

I would bet that these bombings are mostly committed by the Christian terrorists sent by the Bush regime. There's no way the Christofascists can seize control of Iraq's oil so they're going to make sure that NOBODY can.

Carmikl's picture

Why would al-Qaeda attack the Yazidi people? They are very small sect of Zoroastrian people who have no army, and attacking them would inflame neither the Sunnis or the Shiites. Blaming al-Qaeda seems entirely too convenient here because they have nothing to gain. It's not their modus operandi. Al-Qaeda tries to pit one side against the other and the Yazidi aren't likely to take up arms against anyone. It looks more like ethnic cleansing by either the Sunnis or the Kurds.
