Quote of the Day

From the NY Times: (h/t Simon)

"The real question for Republicans in Washington is how low can you go, because we are approaching a level of ridiculousness," said Mr. Reed, sounding exasperated in an interview on Tuesday morning. "You can't make this stuff up. And the impact this is having on the grass-roots around the country is devastating. Republicans think the governing class in Washington are a bunch of buffoons who have total disregard for the principles of the party, the law of the land and the future of the country."

                                                              -Scott Reed, Republican consultant

Stewart said it best: "You wouldn't hit a guy with a c#%k in his mouth, would you?"

I'm certainly not going to argue with him.

The first 15 minutes of Hardball tonight was excellent. Douglas Brinkley was a guest and he said the kids at MLK school in NOLA today where bush spoke wanted to heckle him and ask him questions but they were not allowed to. They show one pic where bush puts his arm around one of the students and the kid just stiffens up and doesn't even look at bush. Not a hint of a happy smile on the kids face.

Most likely this guy is a cottager but I don't think he'll resign over this because when you read the police report, http://www.slate.com/id/2172982/nav/tap1/ it is a bit sketchy all over.

Some things that are strange to me. First, since when is putting a bag in front of the stall a sign of someone wanting to engage in sexual conduct? Don't people do that to be near their baggage? Also, foot-tapping? How does the cop know when that is just foot tapping and when it's a sign.

In this case, it does seem like he was looking for sex, what with passing the hand and touching the other guy's foot and all, but something bothers me about this whole thing. I'm glad that a hypocrite got what was coming to him, but I don't like the idea of getting arrested for something so vague. Can't the cop wait until the man gets in the stall with him? Anyone agree?

It's easy to say the house is burning...when your standing on your front lawn watching your house burning.

The time for Mr. Reed and all of your (gr)ass roots republicans to prevent this sort of thing is stand up for the principles of your party and DEMAND that from the people you elect to represent you.

Don't blame anyone except for yourselves and Rove.

The ends don't justify the means. You so-called conservatives got the levels to all of the power, but you didn't care that it was a house build on sand.

Not that your taking any advice from a Liberal/Progressive, but I suggest you first release yourselves from the religious nut balls that are dragging your party down. (And Republicans say Liberals don't have any ideas....)

Capabilty Jones's picture

Yeah, the rulling republicans are clowns. Incompetent, and tempermentally unfit to rule. The typical Republican office holder holds the view that government is evil- so why try and do a good job? Just take the money and try and help yourself and your class.

Especially now that the Repugs know the string is running out- its Stealing Time.

I don't know what a cottager is [except in this context], and I sure as heck don't know what homosexual toilet signals are. But one thing did concern me: I heard several times how the cop said that he saw Craig's left hand, and the wedding ring on it, from Craig's stall to the left. I think that would be difficult to see, from the stall to Craig's right.

Do I have this correct?

As I've said before, the real national disgrace here are the voters of the GOP. Can these people please stop embarrassing us as a nation by electing moral degenerates to Congress? If they’re really too dumb to tell the difference between an honest advocate of “family values” and yet another whoremonger/pedophile/self-hating homosexual, then they need to stay home on election day - for the good of the country.

The Democratic party could almost totally kill off the Republican party by just coming out strongly for ethics and honesty; there will be honest and publicly funded elections, there will be no more pork, there will much higher standards of conduct and accountability for those who break the rules regardless of party, and that our money will be responsibly spent to better our nation and its citizens. Get the assholes out, get them to stop acting like Congress is some sort of elite members-only country club. It's our government, we own it and they won't be allowed to shit on it anymore.

I heard the story about the captured Iranians earlier today and I too wondered if they had weapons why did they wait until the guys were in the hotel. The Iranians said they were invited to Iraq to sign some sort of electrical agreement. The pres of Iran said long ago that Iran wanted nuke power so they could help Iraq with their electricity problem. Actually that makes sense to me.

It might be better if Craig doesn't resign as he's up for reelection in 2008. He will lose in spectacular fashion if he tries to seek reelection or he'll taint anyone who tries to replace him as a Repug. If he resigns now, he'll probably be replaced by a Repug and by the time the election comes around, the dolts will have forgotten all about Craig.

Craig will resign either tomorrow or late Friday, I'm guessing.
David Schuster does a great run down tonight on Hardball of all the conservative big wigs who have been caught up in sexual scandal.

WashStateBlue's picture

Some Republicans are indeed screaming, particularly the party’s social conservative wing, which places a high priority on ethics and family values. Tony Perkins, the president of the Family Research Council, a conservative advocacy group in Washington, said the elections of November 2006, in which Republicans lost control of the House and the Senate, proved that voters want politicians in Washington to clean up their act.

What the....

Come on, EVERYONE of these MF-ing Republic thugs Knew Craig was Gay and Foley was Gay...

But, they didn't care, as long as they kept getting elected!

It's an open secret!

They just LIE to the RR base, cause they are using them as the ultimate suckers...

You keep voting for us, we will keep cutting taxes on the rich and giving corporations free passes...

Like Dick Cheney gives a flying F about Stem Cell research and "SnowFlake Babies"??????

God, the religious right are monumentally stupid!

And, if they buy this feigned outrage by Romney and McCain....who knew damn well Craig was gay!

The FAKE bipartisan card. Let's start calling it what it is-FAKE.

"[Mitmo] Romney could not distance himself fast enough. “Once again, we’ve found people in Washington have not lived up to the level of respect and dignity that we would expect for somebody that gets elected to a position of high influence,” [Mittens] Romney said. “Very disappointing. I've been trying to find an appropriate place to post this so please excuse me if this is off topic.

So far both Carol Costello and Kira Phillips on CNN have managed to talk about Richard Jewell's death without mentioning the FBI's effort to get him to file false confession. It isn't mentioned in the article on their webpage either. That incident is why the Richard Jewell story is historically significant. Either CNN is historically challenged, their collective memory has been suddenly gone Gonzo, or the just don't want to embarrass the FBI.

Well, I'll give this to Craig. Most republicans DON'T represent the vast majority of their constituents. They represent the people with big money.

Don't be surprised if this interview doesn't appear on CNN Transcripts. When an interview like this comes up I usually check the transcripts before I comment because I want to make certain I heard it right. The first Situation Room transcripts are up now, and this interview isn't there. Maybe it just hasn't posted yet, but this wouldn't be the first time that CNN "forgot" to include an embarrassing interview in it's transcripts. They think that if anyone is any good in government, then they would have been hired away by the private sector( thanks very much dear Ronnie Reagan).

The only thing the private sector does better is reward their CEO's for cutting wages and increases profits...for the investors.. but for their own workers? Nada. Zip. Zilch. Who do they think is gonna buy their stinkin' products if their own workers can't afford them?

Return the Government to WE the People!

"Republicans think the governing class in Washington are a bunch of buffoons who have total disregard for the principles of the party, the law of the land and the future of the country.”

Screw the NY Times!

Did you notice the HAD TO MENTION William Jefferson, just to be Fair and Balanced!

I'm just surprised they didn't say "And Bill Clinton and Monica"

You Dipsh*ts! The Republicans are the skyscraper of corruption, blocking out the sun, and you want to be sure and play the bi-partisan card....

Just wait for tonight Hannity's segment on the subject... It's all about Clinton, once again...

Dudes, where's your Party?

Coming from the mouth of a party full of disgraced pedophile, gay and corrupted members who have disregarded the Constitution many many times. I'll take their baffon comment as a compliment to the Democratic control congress. Because come to think of it. their "nice"
compliment will be more insulting.

So the grass roots Republican are pissed and disillusioned? Great, but will they ever figure it out that because of the so-called "values" they hold dear, they will forever be ripe victims for manipulation by the worst dregs of humanity? That, on the one hand, the concepts to which they have given their allegiance and loyalty, and on the other hand, their eternal willingness to mindlessly and unquestioningly submit to authority can produce no other possible outcome? Will they ever question those "values" and, after doing so, discover the basic defects in premise and violations of enduring principle that brought them to their current state of affairs?

Maybe a handful in every million-or-so will do that. But the rest will continue with what they have done up to this point, expecting a different result, wondering why they don't get it. You've been had, GOPers. You've been had at every turn. You've all taken an active, eager part in the process of being had. Until you learn to question everything, you're going to continue being had.

Time is running out on this country. It's time for all the GOPer children to grow up. Disillusionment is a gift; what are you guys going to do with it, assuming you can even recognize it for the good thing that it is?

Outside of Sen. Chuck Hagler, there is not a single repub I have any respect for. I think some people vote repub because that is what they always have done - with little thought or analysis.
How can any rational person vote for anyone in the repub party next year!

Who has this pic? I'd like to see it.
