It seems to me that Bush has won. I think we went there for the oil. They expected it to be a walk in the park, and then it blew up. So it's not the perfect situation they wanted...but I think when he says that Iraq wants an ongoing relationship with the U.S., that means permanent bases. Permanent bases means a base for U.S. corporate interests. We'll stay there, fight the militia's, have our soldiers killed while working out a deal with the Iraqis to continue to provide them a minimal amount of assistance in exchange for their oil. I think the only thing that could possibly get us out at this point would be a tet offensive, but with the brainwashing the GoP has done, I think an attack like that would only reinvigorate the right's resolve to stay.

Basically stated that they pressure the Iraqi govt to promise them a job after a few month of training with the USA military. But they act more like thugs and not very well prepare for the task.

The goal in Iraq; unification of the country as was under Saddam but with a democratic and freedom-loving government, is totally impossible. The Kurds in the north of Iraq, one of the few semi-peaceful places over there, will NEVER go back to being ruled by either the Sunnis or Shiites. We cannot force them to subjugate themselves without being as brutal as Saddam was.

There is no proof that AQ killed that top Sunni Sheik today. It could just as easily have been an IED planted by the Shiites, since they have not been happy about the US arming and training the Sunnis, or it could have been the Kurds. They are not anxious to see their old genocidal foes regain strength.
On the other hand, it is nice to hear that Bush has turned Anbar into such a peaceful and prospering paradise, and he is providing billions of recovery funding for that Iraq province. I am sure that the displaced American citizens of New Orleans will not mind, in the least, waiting their turn until Bush has fully restored the Anbar province.
If Bush leave the soldier high and dry in Iraq then we'll fund their ticket home by contribution, if we have to. It's better to pay for their plane ticket home then to keep funding the war.
