I promise you, it is the only way to get through this piece of unadulterated excrement from someone whose entire brain pan is filled with terms he thinks are insults but that he doesn't actually know the definition of. Watch how his defense of Rush jumps from smears against Media Matters, to MoveOn to George Soros to "fringe left elements" to socialism. Socialism? So a socio-economic philosophy is now persecuting Rush Limbaugh? Stop. It hurts.

Does any talking head on the right actually WRITE their own drivel? At least our "voices" read the news, give their sources, and write their own scripts. Yesterday all I heard on the right radio was "persecuting Rush" Moveon...." "but Clinton did it first..."

This is so depressing. On the bright side, cable news has as much journalistic integrity and credibility as TMZ or Extra. On the dark side, people watch both. And those people vote.
I really wish our democratic leaders would take the high ground. Just because the GOP decided to try and make something out of the MoveOn ad, doesn't mean the Democratic party should do the same. Anyone who can listen to the Rush Limbaugh clip knows what he said. For the Usual Apologists to try to spin it requires almost complete detachment from reality. So why not detach completely? At some point they're going to say "Hey, you know, I imagine that Hilary Clinton might have said 'I eat babies every day,' so that's pretty much exactly as if she did say it..." and then they'll procede to bash her from there.
"Clinton Eats Babies" would be the Fox News headline. Rush would of course roundly chastise Ms. Clinton, even as the sound of chewing drowned out the cries of babies in his radio studio. Sean Hannity would ask, "Last week on the campaign trail Hilary Clinton stated clearly that she eats babies every day. The Liberal Media refuse to air the video or audio recording of this event, refusing even to respond to this journalist's request for a copy. Instead they denied the video exists, clear evidence that they are hiding it. So my question is, why have four liberal Senators voted against the latest resolution condemning Hilary Clinton for stating that she eats babies every day?"
I think we're on the cusp of this total separation from reality... but it's not a totally bad thing. What if we could persuade the neocons to simply pretend that the United States has already invaded Iran, and actually "won?" Maybe they could just skip right to the self-righteous, puffed out self-congratulation stage, without the need for an actual invasion? I mean, who's to know, right? In Tehran, American-educated professionals sitting in a cafe could watch CNN in total bemusement...

Yeah... I got your context right here Glenn Beck. Didn't Rush in his short lived tv show accuse Bill Clinton of laughing at Michael Brown's death at his funeral and once he realized that the camera was trained on him then faked wiping away a tear? If I can find footage of this I will post a link. This was at the height of the right wing peddling the theory that Clinton was responsible for numerous deaths to cover up his involvement in the Mena cocaine pipeline which Falwell and Ollie North hawked tapes allegedly "proving" this. And it was North who was the one ACTUALLY involved in the Mena pipeline as that was the strip where the planes arrived and departed from during the whole Contra affair. These little shits have NO shame.
What makes me mad is, flipping from CNN to MSNBC today (I left out FOX because, why waste my time), they both said "Limbaugh says he was taken out of context". Now I'm not a journalist or a news channel owner, but at that moment, wouldn't playing the quote in question, in context, be the right thing to do? They don't because putting the quote in context ends the discussion of what Rush was saying and who he was saying it about and shows him for the tool that he is.

What we need to do is say the most vile/hateful/hurtful things about conservatives (or really anyone we don't agree with cause we can), destroy our logic process, and tell outright lies... but we do it using a fun and chip and quirky voice! The same voice that Doug Feith would have if we kicked him in the balls. That way we too can get national air time on BOTH CABLE AND NETWORK news programs. Then we will finally be heard and rolling in the dough!

Yes, Nicole - you are a reason he still has a show. Not THE reason, but certainly A reason. When people post clips and talk about their outrage... that's publicity. And in show-biz, no publicity is bad publicity.
Why post this for us? What's the point? Who cares? Yes there are things we need to talk about which are hard to think about (see: Bush Administration) but this guy is a nothing with barely any ratings. The ratings he can maintain are because of people like YOU Nicole, who keep giving him more viewers.
So stop it. Please. Nothing good comes from watching, taping, and then showing up what was on.
Nobody that has listened to the Limbaugh tape...the entire clip in unedited form will come to any conclusion other than Limbaugh calling soldiers fighting Iraq "Phoney". Context is everything and the context here is "the media going up to soldiers" the media in Iraq that is and looking only for ones that disprove of the war. That was the context and Limbaugh did not set it, the caller did.
What we saw was a glimpse of the big truth of this war. The GOP'ers see it as their war and not America's. If you are against the war, but fighting it, you are entirely in line with your rights as an American (you are fighting for America after all) but you are out of GOP line as you are not voicing an opinion that advantages them. Certainly a GOP Chickenhawk like Limbaugh would see soldiers like that as "Phoney" as he perceives their mission and their performance as talking point substrate for the GOP and never gave a crap of what America gets.
Listen to the tape. Its not about the "Mission" as these guys are fighting for that. Its not about "Honor" or "Courage"as they are voicing their position in an environment hostile to it and that takes guts and character. It's about the needs of the GOP. They need this war to be popular with the Troops or be left in the indefensible position of letting them die in war only popular with the GOP. And, they need that to be what reporters report. If this is handled not as a off the cuff remark but as opening Pandora's box..some good will come of it for the troops.

I tried to get through to you when you were on WFPL's "State Of Affairs" radio show a few weeks ago. I wanted to challenge your lack of support for fairness on the public airwaves. I know you're busy, and you may be somewhat insulated from the true picture of what unregulated broadcasting has become.
Right wing radio dominates practically the entire AM radio spectrum in Louisville. We are unable to hear ANY progressive opinions on the AM talk stations because the corporate ownership of most of those stations have issued directives that ONLY conservative talkers will be allowed.
Are you aware that Rush Limbaugh and others have a direct pipeline to the White House? Are you OK with the regular meeting that Bush holds in the oval office with the conservative radio hosts, usually just before a big policy push, such as the surge in Iraq? Did you know that if Dick Cheney doesn't like what he hears from one of his talkers he calls them, personally, as he did when he heard Sean Hannity dissing the Dubai ports deal?
Liberal talkers have been successful in many, many markets across the US. It seems, however, that you have bought into the right-wing talking point that no one wants to listen to the liberals. This is simply not true. The truth is that we have had our choice to be exposed to varied viewpoints on talk radio taken away from us. Someone needs to speak up to oppose the lock-out on liberal talkers by the station owners.
Another right-wing falsehood is that the left has other outlets for their ideas. I invite you to add up all the "other outlets" and see if they can possibly tip the scales when weighed against the conservative talk juggernaut.
I implore you to recognize that this is NOT just a free speech issue. This is a coordinated, political and economic domination of the publicly owned radio airwaves by a neo-con propaganda machine.
I know you oppose the Fairness Doctrine. If I understood you correctly, you traded your support to a Republican in return for his support on another issue. I submit that there are few other issues as important as getting under control a talk radio monster that has come to see itself as more powerful than our elected officials.
"I don't want the FCC to tell me what's fair" you say. Congressman, would you rather have Rush Limbaugh or Ann Coulter tell you what's fair? I hope not.
Please reconsider your position. Stop being the only Democrat in Congress opposing fairness in broadcasting. If you can't support the Fairness Doctrine, then, please, support something that will give us some relief from the 24 hour a day, 7 day a week hammering from the hateful, Bush/Cheney sycophants on Louisville radio.
I recently saw several flattering postings on some progressive blogs regarding your work in Congress. I'll also be posting this letter on those blogs, as it's an important issue to many Democrats. Best wishes and good luck.

I see day time ads for the content of Glenn Beck's show later that evening that often reflect an event that happened that same day. Regardless of a commenter's politics, how in-depth and insightful can their opinion be when they have to fill several minutes of airtime on a topic that might not gave existed a few hours earlier? You need time to put together something that adds to the discourse.
Plus, the way he constantly glances to the camera's upper right like he's speaking extemporaneously is so phoney, no pun intended.

I agree completely. The liberal media tactic is one of the most effective and destructive strategies the right has ever come up with. News agencies now feel that they have to be 50/50 even if reality is not. There's just no debating that the neocons got us into the messes we're in, but for every subversion of the fourth amendment (or what-have-you), there has to be equal time for John Edwards' haircut. That's fair and balanced now. It's gutted a truly adversarial press when it was (and is) needed most . Going to the mat for facts or giving context to facts is not the MSM's job anymore. Mindlessly repeating gov't sources is becasue, hey - that's reporting. No bias there.

You know what really bugs me about Beck? It's not the fact that he is factless and is willing to spew anything they hand to him no matter how ridiculous it is. It's that he thinks he's so darn funny. He laughs at his own stupid jokes. In fact, if he didnt laugh at them I probably wouldnt even realize he was trying to be funny. I remember sitting in a hotel room last year and I turned on the tv. CNN was on. Becks show was on. I left the channel on for a few minutes. The date was 6/6/06. I remember the date for two reasons. My deceased brothers first grandchild was born on that morning (yes we all had a good laugh about that) and Beck was listing his candidates for the Anti-Christ. I watched for a few minutes and my daughter, who was 7 at the time, looks at me and says "he's not funny". I told I know but he thinks he is. Now, I ask you. If my 7 year old can figure by just watching for about 2 minutes why can't grown adults figure out he's an idiot!?

I would contend there are worse things, like being an cog in a corparate machine with no insurance for you or your children. I'm sure he would contend that you should just get a better job, and since CNN seems to be hiring idiots at big salaries, maybe he is right.
Sad thing is I agree with him to some extent in that I believe Rush was actually trying to say that it is easy to call a radio show and say, "hey Bob Shmegegy here, just back from 15 months in Iraq....", although since Rush has since lied about it, maybe he was saying that any soldier that dissagrees with him is a phony.

Is it just me, or is this whole show an act? The guy always has a smile on his face. I also don't believe O'Reilly believes half the thing he says. On the other hand, Hannity is a truly evil man. But Beck, whenever I watch him, I always get the feeling that the guy's full of shit. This segment, again, is full of exaggerated hand movements and little smirks. Nobody should take him seriously.
