Saturday Night's Darrell Hammond offers up his newest impression: Hollywood Fred Dalton Thompson, who is unafraid to invoke his Law & Order gravitas to ask for your vote.

Some people say it's because I'm lazy. Others say my heart's not in it. But I assure you the role I most want to play is the role of this nation's president. How badly do I want to be your president? On a scale of one to ten, I'm about a six.
Matt Taibbi followed Fred around Iowa and reported back on the the absurdity of the campaign trail.

If he's going to capture Bushes voter base he damn well sure needs to practice mediocrity and do everything halfway thats for sure.
Bush wants Hillary!
Freddy is starting to talk like Bush though...

"Words speak louder than words"
If a lazy, stupid, gullible person like Bush could get elected, then I wonder that the GOP mafia aren't doing more to get Thompson elected so they can do all their behind the scenes manipulation. Not that the other candidates aren't hack either.
As much as I dislike SNL these past several years, this was pretty good. I have to admit it. Hammond is no Phil Hartman (or Hartmann, it's spelled both ways in IMDB), but he does have some talent.
I was saying yesterday Freddy needs to hire the writers of Law&Order and start campaigning from the set of his DA's Office and bring Jack McCoy in to trade zingers with.
Lo' and behold SNL did a skit on it...
It was awesome. Darrell Hamod even asked for a round of applause.
Teh Great White Hype fizzles.
Bring John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, Jane Curtin, Gilda Radner, Laraine Newman
Garrett Morris, Bill Murray, Eddie Murphy, even Dana Carvey, Mike Myers, Chris Farley, Al Franken, Adam Sandler, and Phil Hartman back to SNL and it'll be funny again. Of course one can't bring most of them back to the show, so why not just cancel it?

Re-run the old shows. Anything would be an improvement.
Stephen Colbert is funny as heel and covers the important topics as well. He does it.
Wow... SNL is sadder then Freddie's face, if they have to resort to such a lame bit like that.
The state of condition that SNL is in reminds me of the state of the Democratic party...
If SNL wanted to add some bite to that bit, they would have Amy Poehler playing his wife come in dressed like she was 17 and sit on his lap.
Howie Z @ 10:
If they still had Buck Henry and the late Michael O'Donohue writing for them, that's exactly how they would have played that skit
No doubt... There are usually 1,000 things they could do to make the bits better, just like the Democratic party...
Even though ole Fred's a bit slow out of the gate, the other GOP CANDIDATES STILL DEVISE A SCRIPT TO ‘KNOCK OFF’ FRED THOMPSON.
I didn't realize just how bad SNL could suck until I saw last night's. I wanted to claw my eyeballs out with rust-and-glass-tipped salt spikes.
This skit was the best of a bunch of crap, though.
If that bit wasn't so true it might have been funny.
SNL'S been on life support for about 20 years at least. When is NBC gonna pull the plug? The show simply doesn't have the writers or cast anywhere near the caliber of the original group. C'mon - 30 years, that's more than long enough.
I wrote that down. “Gary, does Fred Thompson look like a pedophile to you?”
He looked at me pleadingly. “Yes, right?”
“Right,” I said.
“Yes, he does,” he answered.
“So what you’re saying, Gary,” I prompted, “is that you wouldn’t be at all surprised to walk into a room and see this candidate’s penis in a four year-old child?”
“Of course not!” the kid said. “Because he looks like a fucking pedophile, dude!”
Man, is that fucking funny! Matt Taibbi is awesome. I honestly believe he is on his way to be a writer worthy of being compared with the late, sadly departed Dr. Hunter S. Thompson.
Lol ! He sounds like an ideal candidate ;)
8/10 !

Phil Hartman(n) WAS brilliant--but so, definitely, was Darrell Hammond in that bit. He got Thompson perfectly. His (Bill) Clinton wasn't bad either. Sure would like to see him do Hilliary.

YUP. Those were the days. Saturday nights, when MUNCHIES were most definitely required!!! But I liked the Larry Craig joke.
Was that Darrell Hammond as F.D. Thompson or Hammond as Thompson impersonating Dr. Phil?
Who watches SNL anymore?
That should stand for Saturday Night Lame.
I've been collecting my own best of Fred, here are some other links of this "candidate" the cartoon video of him is very funny as well
