The conservative commentariat and right-wing bloggers are apoplectic at revelations that Hillary Clinton fielded questions planted by her staffers during recent campaign appearances. Confirming the worst stereotypes of the ever-calculating, risk-averse Clinton, Bush sycophant Michelle Malkin labeled Hillary a "crapweasel." And she should know. After all, from planted reporters and purchased pundits to invitation-only events in front of friends-only audiences, it is George W. Bush who perfected the art of the stage managed appearance designed to "catapult the propaganda."

Kristallnacht in Praque - Nazis go for jews

From what I hear the neo-Nazis that sneaked around the police barricade suddenly found themselves surrounded by thousands of normal, not mentally defective people. People that were fairly angry at having to deal with those guys on what was supposed to be a night of respectful national memorial.

I'm not sure if they were hurt or not, but I'm willing to bet they had to change their underwear...

Thanks for the link Karen. I bookmarked the site. User-funded news is a great idea. The network looks promising. They're actually reporting on journalism and journalists as well, something that is not permitted in the media cabal.

I recently viewed a map of fake news stories planted on local TV and in newspapers. It is so abundant it will probably exceed real news in the near future.

It's a great idea! They can consider a donation heading their way from me presently.

If we can get our news undiluted from reporters and journos 'in situ' then I'm all for it. I am also a big fan of having a journalistic, watchdog approach towards other more 'dodgy' news sources. Everybody should throw something their way and keep them on the ball!

Has anyone else noticed this about when Shrub goes to give a press conference:

He walks up with the other person(s) - e.g. Gonzales, John Boehner, Karl Rove etc. etc. - and he has this big smirk on his face? It's like you think he's actually whispering frat-boy style "jokes" under his breath to his little crony men?

I swear, I think he does that. It was most noticeable to me when he dealt with Gonzales. It looked to me like the both of them were having a hard time keeping from cracking up. Sometimes it looked like Bush was whispering things under his breath and Gonzales was having a hard time keeping a straight face.

You know - the kind of stuff you'd see from like 14 year old boys when the algebra teacher calls them out for passing notes or something...

That's the mentality we're dealing with.

The Real News is a brilliant concept, brilliant!

If it weren't antithetical to The Real News concept (having a viewer supported news agency, rather than an 'owned' agency), I'd suggest buying a big chunk of their stock, because this is going to be a smashing hit.

It's bookmarked, and it's going to replace BBC as the first place I visit each day in cyberland.

I have appreciated The Real News.
On another note, someone sent me the link to this speech by Mayor Ross C. “Rocky” Anderson on October 27, 2007. It is by far the most powerful and impacting speech I have heard in years. I just hope more people start standing up and raising the alarm. It is good and on the money.

Preacher Boob, you actually believe those Fox Propaganda lies????

IMHO, 20 million extra woman voters voting for Kucinich could put him in office. I mean, women like him!!!! Look at his wife!!!! (Men like her) :-)

Certainly it would be great to have women President as often as men, in fact it would be for the better IMHO. I just don't feel that she's the best candidate out there. Saying that though, if she's the nominee, I'll vote for her as anything's better than a Republican't.

Did you even look at the link? It just seemed like an interesting idea -- not liberal or conservative. Just journalism. Things are shaping up to be interesting. Politics1 quoted a recent NBC/Wall Street Journal report as follows:

General distrust of government is not a new phenomenon; it has been the fuel for electoral upheaval for decades. But it's important to note that there may be evidence of a much angrier and anxious electorate than either party is preparing for in 2008. At our most recent briefing, one of the NBC/Wall Street Journal pollsters said 'this is the most angry and unstable of an electorate as I’ve seen in my career.' And that’s from Republican pollster Bill McInturff, who was around for 1992 and 1994, the last two times an angry electorate wreaked havoc in an election year. Remember it was 1992 when the strongest independent candidate in two generations -- Ross Perot -- got 19% of the vote, even after he proved less-than-stable on the question of readiness to be president. And 1994 was the year Democrats lost control of Congress for the first time in 50 years. Neither was an insignificant feat. So if the 2008 electorate is shaping up as more volatile than either of those two years, we may be in for a wild ride of historical proportions.

CNN is becoming increasingly insane.

The once-reputable news source would now like to inform you of what to do should unwelcome things trespass on your land or in your house. They have some helpful hints about how to handle intruders like birds, raccoons, flooding water, and (I'm not kidding) ghosts.

At least, CNN explains, ghosts won't hurt you.

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to manifest the glory of God within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." -- Nelson Mandela, 1994

Of course all women should vote! You mean they aren't? Tsk, tsk. Actually, the League of Women Voters (nonpartisan) has been around forever and used to hold the best presidental debate. However, serving as canaries in the coal mine, they issued this statement in 1988:

The League of Women Voters is withdrawing sponsorship of the presidential debates ... because the demands of the two campaign organizations would perpetrate a fraud on the American voter. It has become clear to us that the candidates' organizations aim to add debates to their list of campaign-trail charades devoid of substance, spontaneity and answers to tough questions. The League has no intention of becoming an accessory to the hoodwinking of the American public.

Yet hoodwinked we were, and remain so. Notice, this was begun by BOTH parties. Two decades ago they told you to sit down and shut up, and you did...

"Will you pledge that when you're president, Iran will not develop nukes?"

"Senator Kerry, we have been fortunate that there have been no further terrorist attacks on American soil since 9/11. Why do you think this is? And if elected, what will you do to assure our safety?" -- some 'random' audience member 2004

"Do you believe the election of Senator Kerry on November the 2nd would increase the chances of the U.S. being hit by another 9/11-type terrorist attack?" -- Lehrer 2004

"Vice President Gore, on the environment. In your 1992 book you said, quote, "We must make the rescue of our environment the central organizing principle for civilization and there must be a wrenching transformation to save the planet." Do you still feel that way?" -- Lehrer 2000

"Should the people of the world look at the United States, Governor, and say, should they fear us, should they welcome our involvement, should they see us as a friend, everybody in the world?" -- Lehrer to Bush 2000

"Mr. President, Senator Dole said the other day that you practiced a photo-op foreign policy that has lessened the credibility of the United States throughout the world. Is he wrong about that?" -- Lehrer 1996

"Mr. President, what is your attitude toward Cuba and how Cuba should be treated?" -- Lehrer 1996

"Governor Clinton, how do you respond to the President on the -- you have two minutes -- on the question of experience? " -- Lehrer 1992

"President Bush, the question goes to you... And the question is this: Are there important issues of character separating you from these other two men?" -- Lehrer 1992

"Automatically, Dan Quayle would become the 41st President of the United States. What have you to say about that possibility?" -- Bernard Shaw 1988 to Bush

"Do you think that a president has to be likable to be an effective leader?" -- Warner to Dukakis 1988

============== League of Women Voters Debate:

"Mr. President, in the last few months it has seemed more and more that your policies in Central America were beginning to work. Yet just at this moment we are confronted with the extraordinary story of the C.I.A. guerrilla manual for the anti-Sandinista Contras, whom we are backing, which advocates not only assassinations of Sandinistas but the hiring of criminals to assassinate the guerrillas we are supporting in order to create martyrs. Is this not in effect our own state-supported terrorism?" -- to Reagan 1984

"Do you accept the conventional diplomatic wisdom that Eastern Europe is a Soviet sphere of influence, and if you do, what could a Mondale Administration realistically do to help the people of Eastern Europe achieve the human rights that were guaranteed to them as a result of the Helsinki accords?" -- to Mondale 1984

"Mr. President, you have often described the Soviet Union as a powerful evil empire intent on world domination. But this year, you have said, and I quote: "If they want to keep their Mickey Mouse system, that's O.K. with me." Which is it, Mr. President - Do you want to contain them within their present borders and perhaps try to reestablish detente or what goes for detente or do you really want to roll back their empire?" -- to Reagan 1984

Now, I did just kind of pull those at random, but I see a pattern here. Lehrer made a brief, half-hearted attempt in 2004 to get serious, but it didn't take. I hope I'm wrong, but I predict:

"Show me, through interpretive dance, what kind of tree you would be, if you were a tree." -- Bryan Williams 2008

"My favorite color is blue. I like blue. All the conservatives say they aren't against blue. So why do you hate the color blue so much Ms. Clinton? Also, is your liberalism disease genetic, or did you catch it while trolling the streets of Detroit for transvestite drug-dealer johns?" -- Tim Russert 2008

Can we get back to serious adult time for debates yet?

Can someone explain this, from the end of the article above on the Democratic Party's annual fundraising dinner:

"Anti-war activists were joined in a protest march by backers of former Sen. Mike Gravel and Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich, who were not invited to the dinner because they don't have active campaign operations in the state."

Kucinich doesn't have active campaign operations, in Iowa? That would be very surprising, if true. Otherwise, it seems to me that it was just an effort by the Democratic leaders to marginalize Kucinich's candidacy even further.

swarmofkillermonkeys,

That's a great list!

Watching the deterioration of political debates is nothing short of maddening. While they once had degenerated into joint press conferences, now they're practically self parodies.

At the risk of starting yet another debate between the Paul Bearers and the Liberscarians, watch Chris Wallace ask Ron Paul (to thundering applause, no less),

"You're basically saying we should take our marching orders from Al Qaeda?"

Honestly, if this is the trajectory for presidential debates, in 2016, they'll be more like the WWE. Senator Kick Ass will be dressed in some goofy outfit complete with a mask and cape, being interviewed by Giraldo, and screaming, "Yo, Governor Smith -- or should I say, Governor Shit? -- Your foreign policy is about to find out what a real Kick Ass foreign policy is!"

It does seem to me that the "Know-nothing" movement has infiltrated the Dem leadership.

Thanks, I kind of got sucked into reading the transcripts (also here) to much of those debates. How in the hell did we let Bush take power again? Wow. The sheer stupidity (and wrongness if there were numbers involved) of his answers in 2000 boggles the mind. And the League of Women Voters really were more consistent, with great questions. I wonder if they'll resume after nominations this year? That would be a great internet campaign to "save the debate" or whatever.

Hopfully, Ron goes independent -- despite the crap I give all the Ronulans (yourself, too, if I recall). We easily forget that the dose of reality 'crazy' old Ross Perot set the agenda for the country because of his involvement in the debates. Now, Clinton and the Republican House will take all the credit, of course, but Ross is the one that single handedly made the budget deficit the main issue, and it bound Clinton to keep to his debate statements. And we were better for it, I think we can see now. We'd have to really fight to get him in the 3-way debates, however.

I think similarly (I'm not sure how Perot as POTUS would have actually been) it is the more general libertarian ideas that would hopefully guide this post-nomination debate. Not so much to help the candidate, but to help the country.

Somehow, our poor, downtrodden, unrepresented women seem to get their way.

For example, during Katrina, a helicopter rescued ten men and a woman from the roof of an inundated building that was in the process of collapsing. All of them were dangling from a rope, and it was too great a load for the helicopter, it was about to crash. The survivors couldn't decide who would 'volunteer' to lighten the load.

Finally, the woman said,

'All my life, I've been doing for men. Washing, cleaning, cooking, caring for them when they're sick. So I guess I'll do it one more time, and let loose of this rope'.

And the men, unanimously, in grateful appreciation, applauded.....................

Hehe. Brings back memories. Yes, I spent a lot of my time defending infomercials with pie charts, and much talk of chickens. Freaking hilarious, though... those have to be out there somewhere... but I liked the charmingly idealistic idea that he was delivering sort of a business plan/ quarterly report directly to his employers (us) through late night infomercial spots. Dopey at first, but then I remember thinking... wait a minute, why SHOULDN'T we make these clowns do this?

Still, he injected the issues he wanted to into the campaign. So, I'd say 70% of the mission accomplished. (He really didn't want to be president, thank god.) Too bad his Reform party started going south immediately after the first election. Sure would have been nice not to have that ruined by ex-body builders and frustrated Libertarians. Oh well.

I also found it somewhat curious that they chose a song that noted that "the good" were crowned with "brotherhood." ;)

yes good point too

Good Lord! "The Army is spending $2.6 billion on hundreds of European-designed helicopters for homeland security and disaster relief that turn out to have a crucial flaw: They aren't safe to fly on hot days, according to an internal report obtained by The Associated Press."

another flash from buzz:
Turmoil, bent rules and signs of theft at a Baghdad armory help explain how the U.S. lost track of some 190,000 small arms meant for Iraq’s security forces. While the Pentagon has yet to offer its own accounting of how the weapons channel broke down, it is clear from extensive interviews that military expediency sometimes ran amok, the lines between legal and illegal were blurred and billions of dollars in arms were handed over to shoestring commands without significant oversight. 11/11

It is rememberance day in Canada, Vetrans day in the states,
they shall not grow old as we that are left grow old,
age shall not weary them,
nor the years condem them,
at the going down of the sun,
and in the morning,
WE SHALL REMEMBER THEM

I can give you all two reasons NOT to take part in this up-coming scam

(1) Clinton (D-Berlin) vs Whomever (R-Nuremberg) to determine the next overlord of American Empire.

Torture, spying, preventive detention, Unified Theory of Executive power are not trademarks of any democracies I know of.

I've heard about those 20,000,000 non-voters. Why don't they vote? Don't they have any input about things like, say, abortion?? Or white-male-christian-chauvanist-supremists (not a fringe group, by the way, I mean Republicans.)

I always take a minute to remember the fallen. I still get choked up about it too. I've never been in the military, or seen action. I am part of the charmed 5% on the planet.

In England a King hath little more to do than to make war and give away places; which, in plain terms, is to empoverish the nation and set it together by the ears. A pretty business indeed for a man to be allowed eight hundred thousand sterling a year for, and worshipped into the bargain! Of more worth is one honest man to society, and in the sight of God, than all the crowned ruffians that ever lived." -- Thomas Paine, Common Sense
Why does that sound so familiar... hmm...

How far that little candle throws his beams!
So shines a good deed in a naughty world.

Keep up the good fight folks!!! Be true. Peace.

To all the people who are unsure as to what caused our bubble in the mortgage industry, Ron Paul says it perfectly as he schools the current Fed chief Ben Bernanke:

Let this be a lesson to everyone who wants to know the REAL causes for inflation, bubbles, depressions, and everything else.

I am not the only one who understands this dilemma, there are others who do as well, but they are silenced and ignored. They are ignored until the problems of inflation get so big as to warrant action that exactly FOLLOWS those were silenced/ignored in the first place.

swarmofkillermonkeys,

There's no way in hell Ron Paul will "set the agenda" this time around. He's being systematically ignored. It's like he's speaking in a vacuum in the debates. You think Brian Williams is going to ask the candidates whether they think abolishing the Federal Reserve is a good idea or not? No. The MSM has a list of taboo issues--Ron Paul will raise them, but they are never discussed at all in the media, nor brought up at the debates. Then the media will report on Ron Paul's surging popularity and gape like a retarded child: "HOW did this guy raise so much money, when OUR polls say he doesn't exist and WE haven't told anybody he's going to be president?" It's like, when he talks, they hear Charlie Brown's teacher. Despite people's hopes that he will "raise the discourse" of the debates, the MSM has refused to allow the discourse to be raised. The debates are such an obscene joke--they are staged through and through.

Hey! Open thread ok. WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE?

"What are your thoughts on Google now that it designed a logo for veterans?
Fantastic! Google has had its head up its search engine for more than 7 years!
I'm glad to see the change of heart, and I'll use Google more often
I still have major gripes with Google, but at least this is a small step in the right direction
Looks like someone reminded people at Google they live in the U.S. and enjoy freedoms soldiers have shed blood fighting for
1 lonely logo for veterans since 1999? Whoopidy-freakin-doo!
Google's logos are irrelevant
Google only did it to get WND off its back
Must have been the new guy who did the design. He's not hip to the anti-American company rules yet
Google is still evil, and must be shunned at all costs
Other?

Obiviously: OTHER! Google Rocks and U SUCK!
