It's been two long years since John Murtha, that dirty f*&king hippie broke from the administration and made a plea to get out of Iraq.

The Gavel has the stats...1786 soldiers have died since...

Democratic Congressman John Murtha gave a press conference today introducing his resolution for redeployment of American troops in Iraq.

"The war in Iraq is not going as advertised. It is a flawed policy wrapped in illusion. The American public is way ahead of us. The United States and coalition troops have done all they can in Iraq, but it is time for a change in direction. Our military is suffering. The future of our country is at risk. We cannot continue on the present course. It is evident that continued military action is not in the best interests of the United States of America, the Iraqi people or the Persian Gulf Region...full transcript here...

"troops leave, violence drops"

The kurds have signed another oil deal with India that has deadlocked their government.

The gop position is to replace malarki and stay the course.

The dems position is to get out.

And the Dems are right. "troops leave, violence drops", that tends to happen when an occupying force leaves the area they are occupying.

“The war in Iraq is not going as advertised. It is a flawed policy wrapped in illusion.

Umm, try "WARCRIME"

Having to "advertise" a war should have been the first clue.

Really? Some Dems, it seems were more "get out" than others. Jimmy Breslin knew that as far back as '05.

"The other day, when Rep. John Murtha of Johnstown, Pa., called for a withdrawal from Iraq, and obviously did so with half the Pentagon behind him, Hillary said, no, we shouldn't pull out at this time. Oh, it would cause so much violence. We must stay. It takes a national Alzheimer's for her to be able to try to get away with things like this."

God Damn right, Jimmy. God Damn Right.

I ran into an old friend, serendispoustly (spl) who gets his news from the FAUX network. Even so, I want to quote here, he said "We need another JFK",

FUCK MURTHA, where has his mouth been since the beginning of the year? I believed in him and thought that after the Dems BETRAYED US he would be blasting them on a regular basis. But of course PARTY LOYALTY comes before, you know, DOING YOUR FUCKING JOB.

Yes, her position is for the general but many think we screwed up and have to stay to stop the genocide.

England has showed us the way out .

No, we need RFK. But they took care of that.

Yes they have and it would be wise to follow that lead. Recall the old "axis of Weasels" nations that did not want to participate in Bush's war? Those same nations, France, Germany, Spain were also occupying empires in the past. They know their history. Blair and Aznar paid a price to learn that history again for their nations. Bush and the Republicans need to pay that same price and learn that same lesson.

Who are we kidding?, we ain't leavin without that oil.

Uh, you do know that the GOP pwns the mainstream media. That's why you get no good press on Dems and only hear about Clinton and Obama catfights which even lefty blogs are dumb enough to regurgitate.

Murtha's voice and anyone else who speaks out against the war is drowned out by GOP spin and accusations of being a traitor or giving "aid and comfort to terrorist" type bullshit.

Murtha is doing his fucking job. When is the last time YOU joined a war protest?

The American Public should be in full scale revolution. Instead we're waiting for the day after Thanksgiving so we can pretend to spend our worthless American dollars on an even shoddier Christmas when instead we should be dismantling the Bush/ Cheney cabal brick by shit filled brick.

Why wasn't Murtha on ANY of the Sunday shows this morning?

Mugsy @ 13:

the right wing radicals have made every effort to take Murtha out.

Clear Distinctions between Edwards and Clinton

Former Senator Edwards spoke truth to power once again this morning on Face the Nation. He made it clear that he had made mistakes ( a territory unknown to Hillary) and that he had learned from his 2002 war resolution vote. He brought up how HRC's yes vote for the Kyl Lieberman amendment is a very serious indication that Hillary has not learned that the Bush administration will use every measure to move their agenda for more aggressive measures to be used on Iran forward. Hillary's yes vote for the Kyl Lieberman admendment is a very clear indication of the influence that Aipac has with Hillary and that she did not learn any lessons from her yes vote on the 2002 war resolution. Obama took the easy way out he did not show up for the critically important Kyl Lieberman admendment. This was not a mistake.

On Face the Nation Edwards repeated that "intense diplomacy" with Iran and Syria and increased efforts to include all countries in the middle east is the way to move forward with negotiations with Iran.

I had no idea that John Edwards has not taken any "Pac" monies. Edwards shared that it is almost impossible to move forward in a campaign with out lobbyist money that he would like to witness lobby money taken out of the process. That corporations of course can continue to lobby but not buy a disproportionate amount of influence with their $$$$.

You know if Senator Clinton and Senator John Edwards lined up closely on all issues I would have to go with Hillary on the woman factor, but they do not. There are distinct and very serious differences on their stances on U.S. foreign policy. Edwards supports strong diplomatic means and Hillary has all ready given the Bush administration the ammunition they need to stir up more support for a first strike on Iran. Edwards learned from his 2002 war resolution vote and clearly Hillary has not. This difference is HUGE.

Spread the word about Edwards in the blogosphere. Link Edwards interview on Face the Nation. Go Edwards I am on your bus.

the Clinton crowd was disgusting clapping and booing
Edwards stands miles apart from Clinton.

Listen to Wolf Blitzer interrupt Edwards more than any of the other candidates.

Same Jimmy Breslin who when asked to comment about RFK's death in 1968 simply said, "It's a shame, just a goddamn shame."

You were damn right then and you were in 2005 too. Thank you.

Schlock media overload is exactly what the corporatist entities want. It makes it impossible for the average person to concentrate on what really needs to be done.

Murtha is the approved version of dissent. I watched him on C-SPAN at a town hall meeting where a constituent asked him if there were any permanent military bases being built in Iraq. He replied that he knew of none.

Considering where he sits in the food chain, how could he not know?

I don't have much respect for any dem in Congress that has not called for us to stop funding the war altogether. The time for timetables and all those cute little games are over. They should just let the funds run out and not bring any more bills up for vote on it. I do know that is a risky strategy, but the only reason it is - is because dems are afraid of how they will look in the papers and on Fox and CNN. It has nothing to do with helping the troops.

commending corrupt pols like Murtha (see CREW) does nothing to strengthen Democrats or Progressives....Murtha is part of the problem in DC-- the corrupt machine that Edwards wants to tear down...he's an old fashioned pay to play guy, there for self enrichment, not public service (see CREW).

Oh really? I check Daily Kos, Firedoglake, Democratic Underground, Huffington Post AND Crooks and Liars on a daily basis and I can only remember maybe two occasions that I've seen Murtha open his mouth and it's the same thing I heard back in 2005. Those sites aren't exactly GOP owned ARE THEY? Show me an article where he blasts the Dems for not doing their job? I don't want to argue with you since I agree that the time for torches and pitchforks is LOOOOOONG fucking overdue. I also agree with your feelings towards Thanksgiving and would suggest that the American people spend their Christmas money on guns and use their 2nd Amendment Right against this fascist goverment. PEACE!

The empire collapses when we pull out of Iraq. If you haven't noticed, all the smart money has fled the dollar already. When the sheeple catch on, then those city swat teams in their fancy new military garb will come in handy.

For those bashing Murtha: the Democratic caucus telegraphed their "Do Nothing Congress" strategy when they chose Hoyer, who is not a leader, over Murtha, who is a real leader, for the leadership slot. Moreover, they did that against the outward support of Murtha by Pelosi. At the time some blogospherians were defending Hoyer over Murtha because of, get this, concerns over corruption!!!!! Congress is still corrupt; money still flows to Blackwater et. al. Where are the lemmings now? They are gearing up for the kabuki theater where we "elect" HRC and take a few more glazed-eyed strides towards the end of the republic.

Murtha is not a bad guy . . . agreed. But he's no agent of change either.

Send this information to Joe “New Republican,” and formerly “New Democrat DLCer” Lieberman who was the right-wing point man to undermine John Murtha a few years back...and what now appears to be the same tactic utilized by Democrats like & Rahm "Dimwit" Emanuel & Steny "Spineless" Hoyer to ignore him (Murtha’s sage advice about the Iraq war), as well.

Yes, "New Republican" Lieberman & "Dimwit" Emanuel & "Spineless" Hoyer & Hillary “Fraud” Clinton and “Nose-Job-Plastic surgery face" Pelosi represent the wing of the Democratic Party most hostile to the antiwar left and liberals and of course anyone who speaks the truth like Jack Murtha...

The Democratic Party wanted "Spineless" Steny Hoyer as their majority leader over Murtha and you all have seen the bad and worse results week after week after week after week...and so on...because the Democrats could not even pick a "strong leader" to lead them head to head against the war criminals in the Bush administration.....

"Spineless" Steny and "Plastic Face" Pelosi are lame brains for not ensuring that Murtha became the majority leader...in picking "Spineless" Steny as the majority leader, I knew the Democratic Party would continually cave in to the Bush-Cheney war criminals day after day after day after day and so on...month after month after month and so on....

“Plastic Face” Pelosi, "Spineless" Steny Hoyer, and "Dimwit" Rahm Emanuel let’s face it did not want Jack Murtha to lead the Democratic Party in the House. So, you end up "Spineless" instead, in which all three of them work nicely in tandem with the Bush-Cheney criminal regime.

There is on average 2.4 American military deaths per day since the the invasion on March 19, 2003. “Plastic Face” Pelosi and her pals "Spineless" Steny Hoyer, and "Dimwit" Rahm Emanuel have totally ignored Jack Murtha’s wise analysis and have instead caved to the Bush-Cheney criminal regime at every turn since being elected to “change course in Iraq” last November.

It appears that when it comes to the debacle in Iraq, there is not a dime’s worth a difference between the Congressional Democrats and Republicans. Thank the Democrats like "Spineless" Steny Hoyer, and "Dimwit" Rahm Emanuel and their leader “Plastic Face” Pelosi, for the cowardice they have shown in foreign policy matters and domestic surveillance and yes, allowing America to torture.

Murtha may not be an "agent of change" but don't tell me that "Spineless" Steny Hoyer, "Dimwit" Rahm Emanuel or “Plastic Face” Pelosi, are "agents of change" regarding the policies of the Bush administration, either.

Corporate Hillary is the best Republican candidate for President…

Exactly.

Change? The only thing the public is going to need soon is spare change.
Collaspe of '08!

"Yes, Congressman Kucinich sought with a "member's privilege" motion to initiate an impeachment proceeding on the floor of the House of Representatives. But Democratic Majority Leader Steny Hoyer moved immediately to kill the initiative, only to be thwarted by a Republican trick. Finally Nancy Pelosi, desperate to avoid a floor debate, managed to have the matter referred to the Judiciary Committee-where Chairman John Conyers has been sitting on the original bill since last April. The giving of aid and comfort to the enemies will, seemingly, continue.

But the mainstream Democrats now face a carpe diem moment of truly historic measure: if they choose, they can foreswear their treason. It was a majority, bipartisan vote that sent the impeachment bill to Judiciary, and that is all the political cover the Democrats need to take the next courageous and necessary step.

For the sake of the rule of law, for the sake of the integrity of the Congress, for the sake of the country's future, and incidentally for the sake of a potential Democratic victory in 2008, the politics of truth and justice must be showcased. The Judiciary Committtee must hold hearings immediately, to see if impeachment is in fact warranted-and polls say the greater part of the country thinks it is.

If the mainstream Democrats will not do this, if their treason continues, then decent and thinking citizens everywhere-concerned patriots all-can only weep for their country."

The person who took Murtha out at the time was Rahm Emanuel. He refused to allow the DCC to back his position. Go back and read news accounts from that time. That's when I became aware of what that little prick was doing. The Rahm started stacking the races to undercut Murtha's position as well.

Floridiot @ 11:

Basically....... that and the US people stand by while it all goes one anyway so there will be no revolution.

The NEO CONS have maneuvered MSM mentality and public conventional wisdom to BLAME DEMOCRATS for the chaos and bloodshed that will surely follow the present fiasco in Iraq.

Americans should be in full-out anti-war/anti-Bush/anti-OIL street demonstrations and civil disobedience. That's what it took to get the hell out of Viet Nam... and that's what it will take to get the hell out of Iraq.

the local paper here says Democrats should "compromise" with Bush on Iraq. "libruhl mediuh" on the march

Actually that 1726 deaths number is inaccurate.

CBS news has just stumbled upon some devastating new information about how many deaths the war in Iraq has caused:

http://www.informationliberation.com/?id=24317

The number according to an independent study (read: not by government itself) shows the number to be close to 15,000!!!!

Very prescient.

somebody play that back for brit hume, along with the body count.

thankfully, the rahm lost 8 of 9 races to progressives. he sicced carville on Dean after that.

Good old Murtha is the man to get the job done and I will always say that.

I always like his no-nonsense style. He makes it clear for the average guy. Hopefully some will listen.

The war will not end until the Reslugs, Bush mentality of the war ends

Murtha may have flaws but none that the Republicans don't have a worse form of.

BTW Murtha has and continues to kick more ass than Bush ever will.

Murtha went underground after Hannity, et al, aired the "bribe" video. This video will be used any time Murtha speaks. He's history.

Representative Murtha is one of the people in Washington whose hand I would like to shake. I don't know how he stands on every issue, but he had guts when very few did. The country should thank him for his service in Vietnam and his service in Washington.
