Mike's Blog Round Up
This is Bob Morris of Politics in the Zeros on my last day guest blogging. Big thanks to Nicole and bluegal for their help. I've known John and Mike since way before blogging and it's been great watching C&L turn into the influential powerhouse that it is.
Florida schools parked their money in a state-run fund that "invested" in risky SIVs. Now the fund is near-bankrupt , the state has halted withdrawals, and schools can't make their payrolls. The blameless are getting maimed by the credit crisis.
In the end, will it be She Who Is Inevitable? Should we practice saying "Madame President"?
With a Cola-Cola plant in Atlanta sucking up huge amounts of water and a nuclear reactor and coal power plant down the river doing the same, the southeast faces major problems because of the drought. How do you cut back? And is the world ready to do so?
What the U.S. can learn from Uganda.
Finally (tooting own horn), here's my review of John Robb's groundbreaking book, "Brave New War: The Next Stage of Terrorism and the End of Globalization." Welcome to open source decentralized swarming warfare or, as he puts it "what if warfare was reinvented and nobody bothered to tell the Pentagon?" It might change the way you look at the world. It did for me.

Cut Back? If humanity goes into remission there might be some hope.
There is a _Big_Honkin'_ gap between Hillary getting the nomination and "Madame President". I still don't think America will vote for a chick over whatever gargoyle the Republicans throw up. France didn't and they still have a half-newsworthy communist party and had a female Defense Minister, fer chissake, at the time. Hillary is just the edge Republicans need to make sure their efforts to steal the election again are enough.
As for Florida, those teachers should act French. Walk off the job _immediately_. Every one of them, and every family member and friend they can get, should be clogging the streets around the Florida state capitol. Otherwise, well, whatever. Just stay quiet and meek and take it and enjoy the fruits of that strategy.
I've enjoyed your posts Bob, lots of good info.
I've also enjoyed your guest blogging.
This could've been in the blog round-up. Crazy:

I thought your book review was great. Either that, or “Brave New War: The Next Stage of Terrorism and the End of Globalization” is just a fantastic book, and was easy to review. I'll be looking for it in the stores, and keeping some of the strategies you outlined in mind. With you mentioning The Cathedral And The Bazaar I figure you must be an old-time geek, or maybe just interested in OSS.
ONLY YOU, THE AMERICAN TAXPAYER, CAN FORCE CONGRESS TO IMPEACH. Call Nancy pelosi @1-202-225-0100 and DEMAND IMPEACHMENT.
So if there's a shortage of drinking water in Atlanta, 'Let them drink Coke'.
That's slightly better than Newport Beach, CA, where they're drinking recycled piss.
Is it getting through to anyone that the above are signals that we may be facing a crisis?
I saw that story about the Florida schools last night. Crazy shit! smchris@2 has the right idea about what they need to do if the teachers and other workers ever want to see their money.
Mike Meyer @ 7:
To busy shopping for the latest heated toilet seat.
I'm surprised the Floridiots responsible for school fund investment didn't put the money in something secure, like Katherine Harris' presidential campaign.
A terrific job all week, Bob. Many thanks for bringing a refreshing change in perspective to C&L....

Please, folks, remember not to spend all your money on Christmas presents.
You'll need to save some, because when the nuclear war with Iran starts, it'll be your civic duty to do some heavy-duty shopping.
Bob did a great job this week with the roundup
OK, so the US learned how to stretch the hell out of your lower lip from the Ugandans, but I sure hope it doesn't catch on, just because it provides a wonderful setting for hundreds of piercings.
Oddly enough, C-Span today broadcast a presentation by one, certain Lt. Gen. William Caldwell, the Commanding General of the Combined Arms Center and Fort Leavenworth, at a Kansas University symposium on the developments in the nature of warfare from 11/14/07. Much of what he spoke about seems to have been addressed by John Robb's book, only Robb did a much better job. What was terrifying was that the LTG in question is supposed to be developing the doctrine which will be needed to challenge the developing world of opposition actors and seemed to have no clue as to what to do. Most of the presentation consisted of one long whine about how the terrorists, insurgents, guerrillas didn't play fair. I was scared shitless by the end of his presentation because this booby is supposed to be defending me. I would have fired him after this presentation and put in somebody with some of the qualities he's claiming to seek in up and coming officers. He clearly got promoted based on a completely different set of criteria - like professioanl bootlicking.
