Rudy's tyrannical Town Hall in 2001: Calls Bus Drivers morons...
By John Amato Sunday Dec 02, 2007 9:01am (h/t jara)
Watch this video from a Staten Island Town Hall meeting on June 27, 2001.
Larry Hanley,President of ATU Local 726,tries to ask then Mayor Rudy Giuliani about an inside deal to grant bus routes to connected private bus companies that contributed to his campaigns...
Not only does he shout him down, but he calls many other bus drivers idiots and morons at the mere suggestion that this was a compromised deal. And how could they even be bus drivers if they dared question his authority? This is the type of authoritarian, bullying tactics Giuliani picked his teeth with in NY. Most of the members stood up and walked out on Rudy. How fitting.
Hmmm, I wonder how Bernard Kerik got to be so tight with him?

Whoa, scary to think that asshole has a chance to become our next president. I sure HOPE NOT!
Can't believe I might be first here.
A sign of things to come if we allow a Rudy Presidency
First??
Rudy wouldnt be elected dog catcher today in NYC if he was running vs Michael Vick.
Thats rude Rudy for ya..
WOW.
Rudy truly is the face of corruption. People need to ask themselves if this is the kind of person they want in control of this country.
He is a scumbag, and he can't pronounce the word "conversation", he says "converZation" 10 times. What a douche. Fuck him.
In the interests of self-preservation, I think the days of Rudy 'Strolling the streets of NYC', are over.
If not, the bidding for the wall hanging of 'Flat Rudy', with the giant tire tracks up his ass, should bring in millions.
nice approach - accuse him of something he doesn't like, won't talk about it. Should narrow topics down by november, eh?
What a colossal prick.
So-- what about that bus driver's charges? If they were true, I'd say it's a perfect opportunity to get this video on the news.
All Repukes are alike. They resort to the lowest form of dialouge; name calling. When all else fails call everyone morons.
Forget Rudy...what's this I hear about a "mystery jet" over the Capitol on 9/11??
If this is how a power drunk corrupt mayor treats his employees, can you imagine how he'll treat the American people.
Rudy creeps me out. I just hope the electorate picks up on stories like this and his Feb. 5th strategy doesn't pan out.
He's got that knack for abusing power. Reminds me of someone. . . can't quite put my finger on it.
He who controls the microphone controls the conversation. Perhaps questioners should bring their own mic's to events so 'security' can't wrest control of it when an uncomfortable question is asked.
until people start waking up and voting their interest and not putting their confidence behind some mayor on his high horse telling tax payers only what he stands for will we get a president who truly listens to people. This guy isn't presidential at all. He's corrupt. How can someone who is corrupt be looked at as someone who fights corruption? Gimme a break. He's as corrupt as the day is long. Anyone should be able to see that. He's part of the problem with this country.
Mussolini with a lisp, women's clothes, mob connections and an addiction to the new wife smell
Rudy transforms transparency in government into naked agression.
jr @ 18:
hes pretty good at sniffing turds as well,
Just further proof that Rudy Presidency=Police State.
It's a sad thing when in a country of over 300 million it's 2 major political parties are being lead by "All Hail Queen hillary" and "il Duce rudy".
Yep, this is just what we need to run our country now. A loud mouthed bastard with no heart. Someone like that could sure repair our reputation around the world, now couldn't they.
That was snark, just in case you thought I had lost my mind. :)
We Americans, as a body, seem to be addicted to stupid and, as in any serious addiction, real, effective change often cannot be undertaken until "rock bottom" has been hit. So, for all of you who've though- as I did- that it can't possibly get any worse than Cowboy G. and CheneyCo, Rudy offers proof that it can, and that we've not quite fallen as low as we may. The simple fact that he's the annointed "front-runner", despite all the negative exposure, portends a bleak future. It's as if our Corporationalist master's have already made their decision...
What's even more frustrating and appalling is that he will be swept into office on the backs of a bunch of podunk motherfuckers who aren't even voting for someone, but rather against the dread "liberalism", because they've been scared into compliance by endless bedtime tales of islamofascistic boogeymen that the Dems are reportedly swinging with on the weekends.
That this great country would even consider this arrogant piece of pure shit as our President speaks volumes of how far Bush has lowered this nation. New York should be ashamed and held responsible for bringing this asshole to the national scene. This guy actually makes Bush look good.
Rudy is the new dubya. He will appeal to the right's totalitarians. The new dubya
A good lesson to learn from this video is bring the biggest guy you can find to ask the questions. That guy got an additional 3-4 minutes of questioning (accusing) in before security very gingerly and politely escorted him to his seat. Were that some code pink protester s/he would have been wrestled to the floor and tasered. Bring 'um big and burley to make a point...
I'd like to actually vote FOR a candidate rather than AGAINST one for a change.
jr @ 18:
s-nap!!!! well put!
Leave Rudolph-lini alone!
-GSD
Rudy sounded like billO when he said take the microphone from the guy.
If that happened today, I guess the cops would have tasered the guy.
Rudy sounds like a thug. He had his goon squad there ready to manhandle anyone who got out of line. He was arrogant and insulting. Very mafia-esque.
And this is the best the GOP can come up with? What a jerk.
Folks, it seems like the only people who will confront beneto is union folks not any journalist comes to mind for doing the same same thing that man did.
Think about it
I am tired of watching those that should know better about things looking the other way so that they don't have to get down and dirty with the benetos of the world.
The good news is his inevitable loss in Iowa is the end for him.
corruption
I don't see no
stinkin' corruption
heh...
I wonder what his current mistress thinks about all this?
Looks like half the audience were plainclothes cops. Apparently they're accustomed to this, they stayed off camera until given the "go ahead."
Someone find this Hanley guy and let him make the same charges now, so that Rudy will have no choice but to respond to them.
"You accuse me of corruption, I don't talk". Wow. Kind of sums up the Republican M.O. doesn't it? You disagree with me, I can't possibly talk to you. Welcome to America v. 2.0
I wish that guy would have said, "Mayor, you seem to have forgotten that YOU work for US and you will answer my question."
You notice Rudy made no attempt to deny or defend himself of the accusations... only to shout down the accuser... hardly the actions of an innocent man being slandered...
I want Giulliani as the Repug candidate more than they want Hillary; and I'll tell you why.
In political parlance there's a thing called the "Silver Bullet" - that is, a particular bit of information that has the potential to completely kill someone's campaign.
There are probably 40 or 50 silver bullets. You can hit his campaign with the political equivalent of a Squad Automatic Weapon and turn it into rhetorical swiss cheese. Yes, some douchebags will STILL vote for him - but Joe Undecided (and honestly, there are A LOT of Joe Undecideds out there) will stay away from him.
The only Repug candidate who gives me even the slightest worry is Huckabee. He's highly unlikely to be the nominee - but he appeals to social conservatives, isn't horridly offensive to fiscal conservatives, but has some appeal as well to fiscal moderates. This makes some people in the Bible Belt who might be 'reluctant Democrats' - that is, people who are anti-gay anti-abortion BUT pro-health care pro-social security pro-social programs - it means that some of those votes could be lost.
That said, Huckabee is still has a snowflake's chance in hell; and then pretty much only against Hillary.
The only way we lose this thing is if we fuck it up.
GDliberal @ 22:
My thoughts exactly. Rudy is a lying corrupt bully wingnut & the Clintons are sleaze.
Like I said, a bully and a thug. Can you imagine how well he would work with a Congress?
It is time for someone who is able to work with both sides. There is a lot of repair work to be done. We don't need more piling on to the damage already done..
Where does Rudy get off suggesting that he is above suspicion? Just answer the question and tell the truth jerk! Clear your name by telling the truth. This coward and bully has a lot to hide.
nwmuse @ 43:
I suspect Rudy would work with congress like a Dick Cheney presidency would. That is try to have them eliminated and grant all power to the President.
*shudder* I think I made myself sick.
They're always so tough when they have their security goons around.
Can you imagine Rudy with an army at his disposal? As Commander in Chief? Blackwater must be chomping at the bit for him to win..
If Rudy becomes president, I wonder if he'll pardon his good buddy (goon) Kerik (who will undoubtedly be in jail by then), and make him Secretary of State? NSA Director? Director of Homeland Security? Nothing would surprise me after the crowd that has taken over the administration for the last 7 years.
Like I've said, I really hope Giuliani is the GOP nominee - the gloves comes off after the primaries, and as shown in this clip, he doesn't like being challenged.
Hanley should have paraphrased Ralph Kramden---POW! To the moon Rudy!
this is the rudy i remember from before 9/11 happened on his watch.
It's about damn time this story broke with the MSM, get this thing out there and split up the GOP vote so my man Ron Paul can win the nomination :)
Dr. D @ 26:
You are absolutely right. Another guy with a "my way or the highway" mentality. Don't dare question his ethics. Don't dare question his policies. I can't see him being nominated but then I couldn't see the current guy nominated, yet alone elected.
Hannity and the rest of the following sheep will see as a plus for GOP and as a strength. This only helps Guiliani.
They could have video of Guiliani performing beastiality on an owl and MSM would still dismiss it. And Hannity and Tweety would laugh it off.
They should have tazed the guy asking the question... (KIDDING!)
Cat Atomic @ 10:
That was vintage pre-9/11 Rudy. Ah the good old days of Stalin, Mussolini & their #1 wannabe. Let's see how he'd answer the same guy & his questions these days. Is there another Rethug debate coming up that's claiming to be open for all questions? :D
Doesn't anybody want to know what the guy in the Duck costume was doing? I sure do.....
Rudy did this regularly at those "Town Hall" meetings. The local Time Warner news channel carried them live and every time I watched Rudy would ridicule and insult citizens who dared to question him and his motives or disagree with him. Rudy is a thug, a bully & a fascist who got beat up for his lunch money when he was a kid and has been taking it out on the world ever since.
wow. what a pathetic fuck.
luckily his career is over.
so why dont everyone give ol Rudy a call. let him know what we think of misappropriations of fund, paying for a glorified hooker on the taxpayers dime.
Or whether he will have the same contempt for working class folks.

no surprise there.
Dumbya apparently has to bite a babies head off on live t.v. to get impeached.
I find it interesting that the security goons didn't taser the bus driver. But then again, this took place in June of 2001 -
Bless the bus drivers, BTW - without 'em we're all screwed.
kulshan @ 61:
republicans will still slant it, say the baby was a terrorists and blame democrats for not being strong enough to take care of the baby themselves, then democrats will give bush whatever he wants.
as for gulianni i had no idea he was that bad.
There is one phrase that says it all "Take his mic away" Next he'll take ALL our mics away. In fact Kevin Martin's (head of the FCC) is in the process of taking a whole country load of mics away from the American people with his inexplicable fast tracking of debate over his media consolidation proposal;

for those who see a trend here.
Peace, and let's pay attention so we can defend our republic. I like it here, but liked it more before 2000
JAB
He's exactly the kind of domineering asshole the right wing loves to love. Except for the dresses, and his prior positions on abortion, gays, marital fidelity and immigration, he's PERFECT!
"It's scary that these people drive buses"--Giuliani
No, it's scary that you're running for president and there are
morons out there stupid enough to actually support your
corrupt, criminal ass!
If Rudy were president, the first thing he'd do is send the army to confiscate all the squeegees from all the window washers in China.
The second thing is send the marines to put unbroken windows in all the huts in Rwanda, and repair all the ones stoned out of the White House.
Then he'd relax, get serious, and start throwing darts at his #1 Goombah list, to select the members of his administration.

Giuliani is a thug. P_E_R_I_O_D! I despise this man. Even as reprehensible as the Re-puke-lickens are, even they should be ashamed this scumbag represents them. Of course he doesn't want to talk to anyone accusing him of wrong doings. He could be, should be, in jail.
Our hero. :P
Any person who shows so little judgement and that does not have any control over what comes out of his mouth - should not be allowed in the oval office.
He's a child - he's infantile - a bully and a brat.
And he's a serial adulterer and he cross-dresses.
He's responsible for the deaths of many 9/11 fireman.
Why are we still considering this man?
*
Why has it taken you guys so long to start posting these things?
The "Giuliani Campaign" should have been smothered with this sort of thing as soon as it was announced.
I mean, it took less than a week for Bernie Kerik's nomination to be withdrawn...
I am sure about a few things. Ready?
There is a treasure chest of dirt on Rudy being saved for the general election.
It is so disturbing he will never survive it.......you can bet on that....
Fuck Rudy, he ain't winning shit.
If Rudy were pResident at the time of that conversation, what are the odds that Larry Hanley would have been tasered?
Thuffering thucotash, what a thcumbag!
Today they would taser him as well.
I think that they probabaly didn't vote for him again.
Dr. Acula @ 28:
Me too. It's been about 45 years since I did.
StirFry @ 54:
Hannity and Tweety would hold the owl down. ;)
I hate to say I told you so, but frightened me when he first appeared on the scene & liberals were all saying, well, look how good he is with the gays! The truth is, he treats EVERYONE like some retarded peon to bully & control.
At least no one died or got a plunger in his ass in this clip,...
You sure don't see Rudy's goons exactly rushing in to take out Mr. Hanley; not with him being a 300 pounder in a room full of fellow-union brothers - Rudy and his bunch of coward brown shirt boot lickers.
If you have a boss, you need a union!
Rudy Giuliani = Greg Stillson
Be afraid. Very afraid.
Last night, just after 8 PM local, I read this post and watched the vidio. When I was about to respond with a comment it dropped out of sight.
Today I happily see that it is back up.
So what happened between the original post last night (first 7 comments posted above all have Dec 2, ~7:08 post times) and the re-appearance post time of Dec 3. at 7:01 AM.
Funny thing is, when I tried to comment last night I thought there were 8 comments.
Hmmmm.
So, Crooks and Liars, what happened? Someone hack your system or something much less sinister or Rudy-esq.
Hi from New York City
http://www.opensecrets.org/indivs/search_hp.asp?txtName=gatto%2C+domenic...
funny how the bus company CEO mentioned in the video is such a huge Rudy fan( see above link)... thing about Rudy is he thinks he can bully people and get away with whatever it i he's done by shouting them down, or giving it a bit of new yawk.
if you dig even a tab below the surface he's just so transparently bent.
Dobie says: "You sure don’t see Rudy’s goons exactly rushing in to take out Mr. Hanley; not with him being a 300 pounder in a room full of fellow-union brothers - Rudy and his bunch of coward brown shirt boot lickers.
I would say you didn't see Rudy's goons rushing in to take out Mr. Hanley because their trousers were probably covered with brown stains at the thought of having to take on a 300 lb bus driver...
Bus drivers have what's called a mandatory reporting requirement: If they see something that is on their "list of things they have to report" they make a report. The problem with this requirement is there's no screening system to ensure the bus driver's claims are bonafide; or that the bus driver isn't attempting to create a smokescreen from inappropriate bus driver conduct. In defense of Rudy, I would have to agree with the assertion that some bus drivers are not all that bright.
Let's give you an example: This involves a bus driver, a bus security detachment, and an audit of the bus security system. The bus driver stupidly revealed classified information related to transportation, DHS communication, tracking software, and the command post. Also within the command post, the bus driver stupidly revealed the real-time monitoring capabilities.
The bus driver revealed classified information during the audt, and attempted to shift attention from their stupidity and tried to blame a "passenger" for a conversation. Rather than admit the disclosure which violated procedures, the driver blamed the passenger. There was one small problem: Unknown to the driver, the "Passenger" was an undercover FBI informant, indirectly connected with DHS, and involved with secret service advance planning for Presidential visits.
Bus Drive Attempted Smokscreen
When the informant and bus driver first interacted, it is unclear when or whether the bus driver knew, suspected, or believe there was or was not a formal DHS audit. Security personnel were under video surveillance to monitor their travel times, schedules, response times, and and whether they were or were not responsive to various scenarios. As a side note, the same security firm had been under DHS-DOJ review because of problems with the firm lying to investigators during their inappropriate conduct, caught on video tape.
Rather than fully cooperate with investigators, the driver continued to assert that it was the passenger that was causing the disturbance. Again, unknown to the driver was the security "investigation" that had been supposedly occurring. However, the auditing team had established that -- contrary to reporting requirements -- the security personnel were not responding to questions; and were not adequately responding to complaints.
Illusory Investigation
Here's where it got interesting. The security personnel claimed to the undercover informant that there had been an "investigation" going on. However, the security personnel got the names, locations, and times of the supposed conversations incorrect. The security personnel claimed that they had been "reviewing tapes" and "determined there was a problem." However, what they didn't realize was the undercover investigation revealed security personnel were not doing their job, were engaged in inappropriate conduct, and were not responsive to public concerns about other illegal activity.
The under cover team had several "interactions" with the bus drivers, the security personnel, and other employees. The security did not -- during this period of an "investigation" that the security personnel were supposedly conducting -- ask the "persons subject of that supposed investigation" any questions. The bus security teams' investigation was not real, but fabricated to justify approaching the passenger.
Then things fell apart. The Security personnel were affirmatively linked with an undercover CIA-FBI program to gather intelligence domestically. The firm was also linked with deceptive practice within the legal services industry, posing as a civilian entity, but using this as a front to target civilians who opposed a specific government policy. In this case, the security personnel incorrectly believed that they had been detected conducting illegal activity. But they didn't realize that they'd been double crossed by the auditors.
Non-Aviation Security Procedures
Unknown to the bus driver and security personnel, the undercover audit team knew that the DHS had not yet issued non-aviation transportation security guidelines; yet, the security team claimed that they had to -- "per procedures," which did not exist and had not been reviewed -- have to engage in various questions. But, little did the security team know that the audit team well knew the real procedures which required written notification of various "concern". These mandatory written notification were not provided, as required. Thus the claim that the security personnel were "following procedures" were without merit.
But it got worse. The security personnel then claimed that they were doing this activity because of the "upcoming security situation," without realizing that the secret service, FBI, and JTTF senior intelligence personnel had been coordinating a Presidential visit which had just been completed. The security team claimed the upcoming event was in the future; but failed to explain wy they did not really start their investigation until after the President departed.
Presidential Visit Did Not Trigger Required DHS Reporting
While the security personnel were supposedly conducting their "security investigation" (they claimed as a pretext to go on a fishing trip), they couldn't explain why they were not quickly responding to the audit team interactions with security personnel during the Secret service-planning (which overlapped with the supposed window of the security personnel investigation).
Had there been an "actual investigation" by the security personnel of the undercover informants -- who the security personnel did not realize had been working with the secret service -- the security personnel would have notified the secret service of this "unknown" risk; and there "should have" been a secret service alert to gather more information. This did not occur: There was no investigation by the security personnel. It was a ruse to justify approaching the passenger, who they did know know was an informant, but suspected was part of an undercover audit. The security personnel and drivers were concerned not for their safety, but believed they had been audited without being notified by DHS.
Here's the problem: despite multiple contacts between the undercover informant and the security personnel with this bus company, the contact did not occur until well after the President left the area. A bonafide investigation by the security personnel
What do we know:
- The bus driver inappropriately disclosed classified information to a non-cleared informant: The information related to command and control, and classified communications centers which are secure and were thought to be in secure, non-disclosed areas. The bus driver compromised the location of this secure location;
- The bus driver, upon learning/realizing that they had disclosed this classified information, attempted to make it appear as though it was the passenger/informant who was at fault. Yet, it was the bus driver who freely disclosed the information without any information or prompting. The FBI-DHS-Secret Service Informant had not been cleared nor had been told about this secure command and control location.
- The security firm did not coordinate their "concern" with the secret service, despite the Presidential visit, raising doubts about the motivates of the security personnel
- When the security personnel were provided with recommendations to address various issues the security personnel raised, security personnel interrupted raising doubts that the "issues" the security personnel were raising (as a pretext for action) were bonafide.
- The security firms claim that there had been an "investigation over a period of time" into this issue was without merit: There were too many interactions between the informant and the security personnel for the investigation to have taken "this many months"; and the timing of the "first confrontation" was well after the President departed.
- The claimed "investigation" by the security personnel was fabricated as a pre-text to justify approaching the passenger-informant; however, the failure to contact the secret service and not approach the "passenger-informant" until after the President left means the supposed investigation did not exist, was not following any standard procedures.
- The security personnel and bus driver believed that they were being audited, but that someone inside DHS had not tipped off the security firm as had been expected.
The security firm, upon realizing that it had been detected, promptly compromised the informants identity. Other individuals were then introduced to put attention on the informant, and distract attention from the bus driver's inappropriate disclosure of the classified command and control center. [Witness intimidation in re inappropriate bus driver conduct.]
Questions
- Why did the bus driver lie about disclosing classified information related to the location and operational details of the bus driver command and control system?
- Was there a reason the secret service was not notified?
- How does the security firm explain the timing of their "first contact" despite the supposed investigation that had been going on for "that many months"?
- When was the FBI notified that the DHS personnel were apparently tipped off about an investigation?
- How many other audits did the security personnel compromise?
- How many other audits did DHS IG and others in DHS compromise by giving security personnel and bus drivers a heads up of upcoming audits?
- Which types of investigation and audits at the airports -- where the FAA inspectors are given inappropriate advance notice of a "no notice audit" -- are occurring, but are not following auditing guidelines?
- Is there a reason the security firm is still providing support to DHS despite video evidence of personnel not complying with security requirements?
- Who within the GOP notified the DHS IG and the security firm that the undercover informants were monitoring the bus drivers, security personnel, and were coordinating with the FBI and secret service?
- Where is the database of the information the security personnel obtain from bus drivers and others they approach during these phone investigations and pretextual interactions with the public?
- Why was the FBI reluctant to take information unless it had been in writing?
- Why was senior leadership within the FBI only willing to take information unless that information was related to something that "had a victim"?
- Why was this security firm -- which had been caught on tape violating procedures -- still providing security services to DHS and the bus-transportation company?
- Does the security firm have any explanations why its personnel did not coordinate with the secret service when this investigation supposedly started?
- Why did the Security office, despite the supposed investigation, wait until after the President departed to make first contact with the passenger?
Bus Driver Puts Own Career Before Presidential Protection, Fabricates A Story; Security Personnel Fail To Adequately Challenge Bus Driver Assertions And Do Not Adequately Investigate Scope of Other Security Breaches By Stupid Bus Driver
Welcome to the abuse bus drivers inflict on those the bus drivers are inappropriately disclosing classified information. We can only wonder how many other issues of interest to the secret service and Presidential protection are falling through the cracks simply because a bus driver wants to cover their rear end.
Yes, in the post 9-11 world, some bus drivers are putting their own careers before the safety and security of the President. They're that stupid. And they claim they're America's finest. No, they are liars, deceptive, and not all that bright. And they have stupid security personnel supposedly providing them with protection, but who are more interested in making excuses to harass passengers than solve problems. No wonder the Iraqis and citizens of New Orleans are still shaking their heads: This is what DHS and FEMA deliver. We should be able to expect more from bus drivers. Sadly, the bus drivers are given wide latitude to lie, and there is insufficient attention and investigation of the bus driver. The stupid ones are putting their colleagues at risk, and disclosing sensitive information to not cleared personnel. Time to put the attention on the bus drivers and find out how else they might be putting the safety and security of the President and other Constitutional officers at risk.
Oh he'll be a really goooooooood president. Grief
We soooooo hope Rudy becomes the Republican candidate. Then the Repugs wont have a chance in hell, when all the trash on this moron gets dug up. Most Americans will be able to see what a disaster this corrupt imbecile would be as president.
The contribution of the campaign bus was worth at least $30,000 , likely much more. This alone makes it a violation of campaign finance laws in NYC. Giuliani awarded a no bid contract , in violation of the NYC Charter worth millions$$. The contract remains in place today. The CEO continues to be a big Giuliani contributor.
