Morning Joe: Keep Those Liberal Facts Away From My Kids!

Nickelodeon channel has announced that they will air a special on love and sex geared for their tween audience in light of the news of Nickelodeon TV actress Jamie Lynn Spears' pregnancy at the age of 16. The show will reportedly be hosted by Linda Ellerbee, who has a series of news specials on Nickelodeon on events that kids that age will hear about but may not have the sophistication to understand the MSM reports on. I've watched several of these shows--the one about AIDS was wonderfully sensitive and not at all inappropriate in terms of the information given to children--and it's good to see Nickelodeon approaching this head on.
But Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough isn't having any of it. In his mind, Linda Ellerbee has a well-known "left of center" bias (she is an unapologetic liberal) and her show will no doubt endorse children having sex, as long as they wear condoms? WTF??? From what orifice did you pull out that programming note, Joe? Listen as the age of the hypothetical children gets younger and younger and the agenda becomes more and more ridiculous as David Shuster challenges Scarborough on his fear of giving children age-appropriate sex ed facts.
Scarborough: I'm not jumping on the ‘abstinence only' train. I'm just saying I don't want Linda Ellerbee, who has always had a pronounced left of center world view, getting on talking about...talking to 6, 7, 8, 9 year olds about sex. [..]
Schuster: Joe, why are you against sex education? I don't understand that.
Scarborough: I'm not. I'm against people going on and having a high-falutin' attitude. People like you, speaking in condescending tones to those of us that are raising children in the heartland, telling us that our 12 year old kids should be able to have sex, but they just need to have contraceptives.

I am so sick and tired of television personalities telling us what we're supposed to think and constantly labelling everything and everyone as left or right. Would it be so terrible if they just did some honest journalism every now and then, instead of spouting their opinions like they were some kind of freaking authority on every subject? Like Mark Twain once said, just because your voice is heard by millions doesn't mean that you are any wiser than when it could be heard at the end of the bar.

Why dont they get Alison Stewart, who sat in for Keith Oberman this week to replace Joe or at least to sit on Mikas side of the desk. Willy clearly sucks up to Joe now, which isnt surprising. But, dispite the fact that Mika can hold her own, I think the addition of a black lady that is extremely articulate like Alison Stewart would be a fabulous addition. And, I doubt they would pull these types of shenanigans with her around.

MSNBC needs to show more movies in the morning. Their arguments are unproductive, obviously abstinence only is not working.
We will have to wait to see what Linda Ellerbee has to offer, but it will be more than what Scarborough has to offer.
Another thing is that Joe always interupts Mika or Willy when they do their reports professionally and doesn't seem able to stand opposing viewpoints to his. He has that same smugness that Bush seems to have, a little self righteous smile that says, "I am right and no matter what you say you are wrong because you are liberal or democrat or both or I simply dont like you." Then out of his mouth comes some carefully crafted remarks born of years as a politician, yet his attitude belies his words.
I suppose he is okay as a voice and opinion to hear among others, but he seems so closed minded to things and takes opposing viewpoints almost personally and feels he needs to attack them and the people who say them. Kinda scarey, like any of the far right, and even far left.
I dont see why he should be the lead voice of a 3 hour morning show. He is nowhere near middle and seems to be mean hearted many times. Why can't we have a simple nice reporter instead of a huge ego on that morning show?

I read an article recently that Joe Scarborough hate's having to get up at 4:30 am in the morning for his show. Well MSNBC should give him a Christmas gift and fire him and hire someone who would love to get up and have that show. I would love to know who is "godfather" is because he is certainly not qualified for that job--someone at NBC/MSNBC is sure looking out for his ass. I saw on www.TVNEWSER. that his audience is down 34 percent. If his numbers keep sliding he will be back in Pensacola beachcombing.
O/T but I was at the gym tonight when Matthew's was on--that ass has no shame--he was pushing his silly book for last minute Christmas gifts, what an egomaniac. If I bought that book for anyone I know they would be insulted because he's another ass like his pal, Scarborough.
Also Tweety was apoplectic because the NYT printed in its paper this morning that the stories about Guiliani padding his bills to the Hamptons when he was seeing his mistress weren't true. Well, Tweety, it was the NYPost and the New York Daily News that published those stories. Matthews was all upset because his boy, Rudy's numbers dropped 10 percentage points and how is he going to get them back. Good, I'm glad Matthews is upset--Bloomberg's office said the investigation by the New York Daily News was ACCURATE and they are standing by the story as reported about Rudy and Judy's shennanigans.

Substitute O'Reilly for Scarborough and the message remains the same. It is almost as if Scarborough has stepped out of the movie Pleasantville, that dark era of the 1950s where even the mere mention of the word sex was forbidden and seemed to be enough to get a girl pregnant. In the movie, those who persisted in retaining the values of that era were viewed in the film in only black and white hues. I kept expecting the color on the TV set to abandon Scarborough at any moment.

God, these same kids see MTV several channels up, their older siblings may be in the same boat as Spears, but Scarborough thinks it's ok to pretend kids don't have sex just because you close your eyes. Twenty five years ago, I went to private schools (abstinence-only) and HALF of the girls in my 8th grade had sex either full intercourse or a variety of "close, but no cigar" sexual activities. Parents had no clue, as I went on through high school, girls actually got their older sisters to "lose" their pills, so they could get extra prescriptions, and several girls could share a pack if they only had sex once a month. There is a code of silence and appropriate response behaviors around adults. You can think all you want it won't happen to you, but I know plenty of church-going girls ushered to the clinics in a panic because their parents wanted to save face.

I've lived in Western Pa most of my life, and I've never understood this "heartland values" issue. In fact, I wouldn't know that Hollywood and the liberal media promoted values that differed from anything else if I hadn't read about conservatives lashing out against them.

Taking a step back. I think its something to consider in that MSNBC has decided they can make more money or get more viewership chipping away at OReily by having conservative newscasters. I dont think things happen by accident. Oreilly has about 500 viewers to olbermans 250 to C Mathews 130, in thousands market share on average per show. I think its clear that MSNBC is in a war to steal Fox network market share and maybe they view the way to do that is via Conservative low brow stuff. Is that possible? For a time I think many of us felt that since Keith Olberman had his home there and Imus, that they were fairly open minded. But, seems perhaps dollars say it all? I doubt Joe would behave the way he does if he didnt have some cover. Its true he isnt very smart, and isnt capable of original thought very often, but he is a footsoldier. Had it not been for that lady who died in his office mysteriously and nobody was able to figure out why back a few years ago on capital hill, he would still be a congressman, isnt that right? So, maybe MSNBC executives decided that the KO technique of going heads up against Fox was not the entire formula for gaining or stealing their market share and decided instead to actually get some commentators that would play that game. Just an idea.
Maybe Joe is less the blame than MSNBC greed.
Based on this alone, "I’m against people going on and having a high-falutin’ attitude. People like you, speaking in condescending tones to those of us that are raising children in the heartland, telling us....."

With the stable of idiots and scumbags they have, even Olberman and staff can't put lipstick of this clownact of a pig network.
