I'm at the Debate

I just got here and it's wild outside. Reminds me of a rock concert. People cheering for Hillary and Obama. Impeach Cheney signs...There's a palpable electricity in the air. They know this is a historic debate. I'm just getting set up....

UPDATE: (Nicole) Shy, retiring guy that he is, John neglected to remind you to catch him on the Post-Debate Round Up Countdown on MSNBC immediately following the debate. He's scheduled to be on around 7:30pm Pacific/10:30pm Eastern.

Cool! I'm hoping CNN will put the full debate online, versus only clips, but there are some intrepid YouTube users otherwise... ;-)

Let it be Hillary. Let there be a fracturing of the Democratic Party.

And the quick formation of a new Progressive-Populist Party (PPP).

I realize Americans and the world in general, are ecstatic that the BUSH Corporation is almost at an end. BUT. What exactly do these supporters really think their candidates are going to change? I mean, I have listened to the speeches from everyone (Edwards, Kucinich, Dodd excluded because their speeches made sense) and I really cannot understand what it is exactly that these candidates have said they are going to do, that makes them into "rockstars" and "celebrities". I haven't heard anything about radical changes in the status quo. What I have heard is, it's politics as usual, but with a Dem leader. Ya, so?

Are there any protests against Hillary? I was just wondering because when I marched in Pasadena's Doo-Dah Parade a few weekends ago, there were organized supporters of Kucinich, Obama, and Edwards present but I did not see any for Hillary (did anyone else see any for her?). I felt it was because they were afraid of her people being booed.

I want to see which candidate can crowd surf with the most dignity.

Are you part of the mosh pit ?

Actually it would br cool if you were to describe the setup around you.

As annoying as I find Mrs Clinton to be,Obama better start coughing up something more substantive than the empty slogans he's been peddling for the last half a year to convince me he's "all that and a bag of chips".

With the moderator's permission, I just wanted to inject a little politics here Chicago style. This race in Cook County is Democrat against Democrat...well, reform Democrat against DINOs.

Enjoy!

This IS exciting! I watched the Trinidad/Jones fight the other night and it wasn't near as electrified as this is. It's good to see so many people showing up and hanging outside to get their feeling shown. Hopefully this is just the first part of the wave, we need it to grow to Tsunami proportions.

I've got my Pecorino cheese and a nice bottle of Frogs Leap Napa Merlot. The fireplace is popping and sparking. I'm ready to watch History tonight.

Go Bama/Mama

Anybody smoking a blunt ? If Hillary's offered a hit , will she inhale and perhaps bogart the thing ?

Tell whoever wins the nomination that I'm offering my services to play the day of the nomination and for the inauguration next January.....

About time something good was played at these events and not weak crap like Fleetwood Mac and Billy Joel

Rock concert. Yippee. Electricity. All fired up. We've entered the age of choosing an American Idol in politics.

The Repubs are watching, and they are learning. Next presidential election, they'll have the most charismatic politician they can find. Probably the real Antichrist, for those inclined to believe such stuff.

No kidding. CNN declared, "there are so many celebrities here, I feel like I'm at an awards show!"..............wow. No wonder candidates seem out of touch with reality. They are treated like the second coming.

It makes me sad. My first vote was for Carter. I was so proud to vote for the first time, it felt like a bona fide adult responsibility. I understood why soldiers under the age of 21 who went to war insisted on the right to vote.

I'm not proud anymore, simply resigned. But I think the reason they are "treated like the second coming" is the desperation to find someone, anyone, who will reverse the damage done by bush and the neocons.

Missed John, sorry! I was at Democratic Underground, wow, most of the consensus was all around, and that forum is ten times more vicious than here. Every Democrat loved both our candidates. It was a unity moment to see Clinton and Obama united tonight. Both candidates did so very well - and I am proud to see that level of comradery amongst us!

I LOVED THAT BOTH acknowledged the great John Edwards, seriously, I cried at John's withdrawal speech. I voted for Hillary Clinton, but I LOVE John Edwards as well, I would have gladly voted for him had he been the Democratic candidate.

Despite the fact that I still believe Hillary Clinton is better qualified, but I did like the fact that Obama was less divisive towards her, and that at the end he pulled out the chair as a true gentleman should. I guess they told him to be more chivalrous.

Both made a true effort to UNITE the Democratic party tonight and I love them both for it. I still stand by Hillary Clinton, but Obama impressed me - and that is HARD to do since I never liked him to begin with. Maybe in 10 years after he pulls in more experience and know how, he'll convince me. I'm proud of both of them to unite the party tonight. It was really good.

THE KILLER LINE FOR ME and I paraphrase: "It took the first Clinton to clean up the first Bush, it takes a second Clinton to clean up the second Bush" - I was on the floor, I lost it and just hooted and howled like the crowd in the Kodak Theater - Obama couldn't even come back to defend that , I give him respect because he gave respect. That line goes down in history like the greeat Lloyd Bensten's (sp?) line to Dan Quayle, "I knew Jack Kennedy, you sir, are no Jack Kennedy." AMAZING.

Again, and I repeat, Obama did good tonight, he didn't spew platitudes and become the David Koresh cult fiend as he can be, he was good, and he GAVE RESPECT to his fellow Democrat and colleague, as it has always has been given to him. I liked that.

Hillary Clinton is defintely my choice, without a doubt, but Obama earned a point and a half with me.

ConcernedCanuck's picture

Hey John, did the crowd inside the theater all look like rich socialite donors like they did on television? It just seemed the rich people were inside, and the people that actually vote were on the outside holding signs for the candidates.

Media Concepts's picture

Previously, CNN has been shallow and tacky in their debate questions. This time, after Blitzer announced that the debate would be "substantive," CNN still managed to be shallow and tacky, by including numerous shots of celebrities in the audience, as if this was an awards show.

The other interesting thing I saw post-debate was the lining up of right-wing pundits like Pat Buchanan and Bill Bennett behind Hillary Clinton, where most viewers seemed to pick Obama as the winner. To me, these right wingers are acting as mischief-making concern trolls. They want to help Clinton win the nomination, because they think that Clinton would be the weaker candidate against the Republican nominee.
