Isn't it great to make history?

Boy, he is just making history everywhere.

What an embarrassment for Americans forever.

Mission Accomplished.

spirittoo's picture

Their away saying he reached the lower rating ever yet it stay in the 20's and 30's what's up with that ... I don't believe he's even in the high teens ...

CD's picture

19%

Well we now know what % of Americans shouldn't be allowed to breed.

Thankfuly most of them are in retirement homes.

natisman's picture

Well he's good at something. Any all you folks who think he isn't good at anything and call him all those names fartboy and piglets and King George and schmuckface need to think differently, Or not.

Orangutan.'s picture

Woo Hoo!!! About Time. Now let's prosecute.

FBush's picture

What do you mean the economy attacked when no one was looking?

No one was looking OUTSIDE THAT swirling toilet bowl known as DC.

Trust me, the rest of the country has been feeling the economic pinch for YEARS.

Its only because actual candidates for '08 brought some reporters to talk to voters...
something the MSM hadn't bothered to do in YEARS. They've been too busy
sucking the kneecaps of Bush and Cheney.

Otay's picture

I guess I misunderestimated Bush.

Pericles's picture

Remember in the movie/book 'Seven Days in May' when President Lyman had an approval rating that was so low that General Scott and the Joint Chiefs thought it was okay to overthrow him in a military coup? Lyman's approval rating in Seven Days in May was 29%. Bush just bounced off 19% and he's still there, which leads me to believe he's got some dirt on the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff...like, letters to his mistress, or something.

The Truth Hurts's picture

Can't wait until the general election. The Dems are idiots if they don't keep showing photos of McCain and Chimpy locked in a passionate embrace.

That will be the gift that keeps on giving....all the way to November.

right on!'s picture

Wow! there's no understanding how 19% can think he's doing a good job.

gempei's picture

A smirk that will live infamy.

ConcernedCanuck's picture

Among all Americans, 19% approve of the way Bush is handling his job as president and 77% disapprove. When it comes to Bush's handling of the economy, 14% approve and 79% disapprove.

Among Americans registered to vote, 18% approve of the way Bush is handling his job as president and 78% disapprove.

Just who in the hell are these people?? What rock do they live in?? OK, I get it..some people have no television access.......so when they polled, did they poll the homeless?

gempei's picture

Oops.

A smirk that will live in infamy.

You want us to impeach? And piss off such a huge portion of the country?

Lollimom's picture

The mistake is assigning the label, President, to this goofball.

"The President", for the past 7+ years, is a conglomerate of neo-cons, republicans, and stinking corporations.

To all of you: Thanks for trashing our Constitution, our laws, our morality, our ethics, our reputation. I hope to hell you all gag on the riches you pilfered from the world.

Aha!!!!!! Now I understand....that high percentage that approves are politicians in both parties!!! I get it.

Chances are finding someone who will admit they voted for Bush will be as easy as it was finding appropriate jury mambers for O.J.

Dahgrostab'ph-r-i's picture

Wow, he even dipped into his 29 percenters who would never give up support for him...until they finally did!

Is this what he meant by

Yeah, but support and approval are two different things. 29% of the American population would vote for a turnip if it said it was anit-liberal.

Kevin Hayden's picture

19%? So the Flat-Earth Rapturist Society and PNAC and Fox News is all he's got left?

Not to worry. He's got a buncha months left to backstab, befuddle, torture and bankrupt them, too.

God forbid the people - the ones who form government and give it legitimacy - have a say in said government.

Shame on U.S.'s picture

Jesus H. Christ!

Who are these 10%ers? There are only 40 or so members in Bush's immediate family and 310M of the rest of us. That's 0.000012903226%

If I meet one of these 9.999987096774%ers their getting punched square on the nose. No questions asked.

actually the sad thing is - the reason his approval rating has dropped so low is because he visited africa -

Robert Lockwood Mills's picture

Pericles has it right. The anti-liberal/Fox Network group is still quite strong, so this 19% figure is truly remarkable. Consider that 10% of the public supports any president, just because he's president and they think it's right to do so. In reality, Bush has about 9% support for his policies. Amazing. His base has vanished, totally.

Conclusion? Huge numbers of people have decided that Bush isn't a real conservative. Welcome to the real world, folks! Real conservatives don't run up trillion-dollar deficits fighting a war that can't be won, meanwhile telling us after five years that it will be won.
Real conservatives don't shred civil liberties by spying on Americans, then lie about it. Real conservatives don't think tax cuts are the answer to every economic woe.

There's another factor, I think. Huge numbers of people now realize Bush is an ignoramus.

I think the truth about false flag plots and all the like comes from this: In eight years in office, there hasn't been ONE assassination attempt on Bush (and don't give me the BS White House-made up story about the bomb in Georgia that some crazy Russian tried to throw at him).

I said it in 2000, and I will repeat it here, and I will stand by it.

George W. Bush will be the last Republican president. Ever.

He has no skill but for destruction. No desire but for self-aggrandizement. No talent but for waste and wreckage. He is the perfect GOP president. An overspoiled man-child brat who deserves nothing other than to be put over an adult's knee and whipped. He was the perfect lazy, self-centered, status-craving scumbag, bereft of conscience or remorse, to carry out the every depraved whim of the useless scrum of elite upon the rotting corpse of our nation and his party.

Now he has caused irreparable damage to his party, and extended the cracks and fissures of that destruction down into the bedrock of our Nation itself. The United States will be many a long decade filling, filing, and sanding over the repairs, and we will NEVER forget how dangerous it is to allow a clueless jackoff into office. The institutions that put this marble-mouthed imbecile in office are themselves being rapidly rendered irrelevant and inconsequential even as they bray in protest at his passing. Going into obscurity with Bush and the GOP will be the mainstream media. One after the other these decrepit institutions will crumble and collapse and overturn.

But I really do believe that after 2009, the American public will recoil in revulsion when presented with "Republican" or "GOP." There is no turning back. And it was George W. Bush who led them into this morass of irrelevance. Mark my words. You heard it here. The GOP is dead. They just can't smell the stink of their own corpse yet.

To be sure there will be another crowd of braying conservatives who band together and "bravely" anoint themselves the protectors of all that is elite, decent, and privileged, but they will have to make up a new name for themselves and jettison most of the dead weight baggage of their current empty suit front men. It will be awhile before they can field a national candidate for President. In the meantime, it's time for those of us who really care about Americans to shove the Overton window to the left as far and as fast as we can.

oh, if only you were right...

i submit that the whole dem versus GOP meme is--imho--going to be a relic of the 20th century. the 2 parties have exposed themselves to the public like an old man wearing nothing but a tattered trench coat.

it is hard to see daylight between certain members of these 2 parties. and i hereby predict that the 21st century's political discourse is going to be less partisan based. i think the century of the independent is nigh.

this is not to say that politicians and pundits won't fall into opposing camps, i just don't think they will be based on the current parties. the future political landscape will be divided between corporatists and anti-corporatists...

can i trademark that?

Of course, the fact that Bush vetoes any piece of legislation that does not conform to his desires has nothing to do with this. However, you may also have conveniently left out the fact that the public has responded quite favorably to Congress standing up to Bush, and that the real problem they have is with the REPUBLICANS in Congress

and they don't have the left wing nuts in the media constantly hammering them because the left is a morally corrupt bunch of liars.

The left wing nuts like McCain-humper Chris Matthews, or the screamers at Fox?

Bush is what kept you save all these years

Yes, bush kept us "save" after he fucked up and let 9/11 happen, which happened almost 1/5 of the way into his term and could not even remotely be blamed on Clinton, you stumbling fool -- but the price we've paid for being "save" has been our civil liberties and economic well-being. The whimpering, pants-pissing state of yammering fear that our nation was cowed into after 9/11 has passed, thank you, and 80% of us are now awake and see that we are in reality no better off, and that the statistically infinitesimal risk of a terror attack is a price well worth paying for the right to speak our minds without fear.

The leftnuts mercilessly hammer Bush and have tried their damnedest to destroy this country-- now with Obama you'll have the best chance yet.

Do you have facts, logic, or substance to that argument, or are you just chock full of quivering bullshit? Survey says -- the latter! Produce factual statements in support of your assertion or withdraw it immediately.

The left is an offensive disease....our Founding Fathers are turning in their graves because of you red commie socialist fascist thugs--

Is this the best you have? Red Commies? Socialists? Are you old and stupid? Have you been asleep for 17 years? Communism died so long ago that its corpse is old enough to vote! And you do realize that "fascism" is an extreme of right-wing politics, don't you? And it is in fact politically incompatible with Socialism or Communism? Or are you too dumb to understand the labels you carelessly stick to anyone with whom you do not agree? Get back on the short bus, pal, and remember to strap yourself in and wear your headgear.

God help us all-- although y'all are Godless too.

I'm very proud of my atheism. It sets me apart from people as a sign of my ability to think independently. But not all liberals are godless, and Republicans don't own religion, nor do you have any right whatsoever to claim exclusive ownership of the idea of patriotism. Nicole,

This is a joke-- your democratically controlled congress is even lower-- they've accomplished NOTHING while in control

Insinuations that you're more American than liberals or some other such shuddering horseshit do nothing but make you look like a weakminded fool, and an asshole.

DAmmn............they really came out of the woodwork today.

Do you mean "they" as in the paid right-wing trolls who seem to swarm in droves whenever the political future of the ruling elite is at risk?

That's odd. Reuters just released a poll saying his numbers are up to (a still dismal) 34%. And Congress is all the way up to 17%!

http://www.reuters.com/article/domesticNews/idUSN1948614520080220?feedTy...

MILWAUKEE (Reuters) - Growing confidence in the future and slightly warmer views of President George W. Bush and Congress put Americans in a better mood this month, according to a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday.

The Reuters/Zogby Index, which measures the mood of the country, rose sharply to 99.3 in February from last month's 94.2, putting it at the highest level since August.

Approval ratings for Bush climbed to 34 percent from 31 percent last month, and positive ratings for Congress inched up from 14 percent to a still-low 17 percent.

Concerns about personal finances, job security, safety and the direction of the country all eased at least slightly in the last month, brightening the outlook for Americans who had slipped into a funk around the holidays.

There were some dark clouds. For the first time, a majority of Americans, 54 percent, expect a recession in the next year, up from last month's 48 percent, as a housing downturn and credit crunch take their toll.

Despite worries about a recession, the number of Americans who think the country is on the wrong track shrank to a still-high 62 percent, down from 68 percent.

"People are adjusting their expectations. They see a recession coming but they still feel better about their future," pollster John Zogby said.

The mood swing followed a month in which Bush and Congress worked together to approve a package of measures designed to give a short-term boost to the economy, while U.S. deaths from the war in Iraq continued to fade from the headlines.

The intense interest in the U.S. presidential race as voting began across the United States, with compelling races in both political parties capturing public attention, turned the debate from the present, Zogby said.

FOCUS ON FUTURE

"The focus now is on the future. There is going to be a new president and a new Congress and people feel good about that," he said.

Eight of the 10 measures of public opinion used in the Index rose, with one dropping slightly and one staying the same.

The number of Americans who feel very secure in their jobs jumped 7 points in a month, to 50 percent from 43 percent, and the number who gave positive marks to their personal financial situations climbed to 56 percent from 52 percent.

Positive marks for the Bush administration's foreign policy climbed 5 points to 28 percent from 23 percent, but approval ratings for economic policy stayed exactly the same at a low 22 percent.

More Americans feel very safe from foreign threats and more are fairly or very proud of the United States, but the number of Americans confident their children will have a better life fell slightly to 64 percent.

The Index combines responses to 10 questions on Americans' views about their leaders, the direction of the country and their future. Index polling began in July, and that month's results provide the benchmark score of 100.

A score above 100 indicates the public mood has improved since July. A score below 100, like the one this month, shows the mood has soured since July.

The RZI is released on the third Wednesday of each month.

The telephone poll of 1,105 likely voters, taken Wednesday through Saturday, had a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

In retrospect, it's kind of amusing to think that so many voted for the chimp in the first go around. But to think he actually received votes the second time around is truely sad in the sense that we as a society never seem to learn our lesson. The fact that we as a people decided that this was the best we could put forth as the leader of the free world, in the most powerful position in the world along with all that he commands is kind of scarry when you stop and think about it. What's even more scarry is that we have to look in the mirror every day and stare back at the fools who actually did this.

I agree with the part about shoving the Overton window to the left! That is FAR past due.

But as for everything you said about Bush and the Republicans, I don't buy it. Bush's collossal fuck ups have damaged the GOP, but it has also put in place one of Bush's favorite tropes: "the soft prejudice of low expectations." Now all they have to do is field some guy who will only fuck up 90% of the country and 75% of the world, and he'll seem like the greatest leader the country ever had.

I think the only way Bush will earn a GOOD reputation in history is by strapping on a cape, and a big fat belt, and spending the rest of his life doing gigs as an Elvis impersonator. That's something I'd definitely like to see. Or maybe make a living as the world's greatest G.W. Bush impersonator. So what if it's really him?
