(h/t Heather)

This is proof that the primary season is making everyone a little punchy.  CNN has been reduced to likening Hillary Clinton to King Kong against Barack Obama's Mecha-Godzilla in an "epic" duel of cinematic monster proportions.

I understand the need to find ways to cover the primary race--one that has basically the same narrative for the last year: two candidates running basically neck and neck down to the wire--differently.  But this is ridiculous, and really demeaning to Democrats as well...can you picture the same story done for the Republican race and the resulting outcry?

See, she IS a monster.

This is a tongue in cheek video. I like it.

Infotainment....

Someone please bring Ted Turner back....

yeah, imagine the uproar had they called it Barack Kong vs. Hillzilla - which would have a better ring to it - but of course likening Barack Obama to a black ape would have been a big-time no-no. Of course, they should have just come up with something else entirely in my opinion... it's obvious why they didn't to it the other way, and it's just stupid they did it at all.

Prabhata @ 2:

This is a tongue in cheek video. I like it.

Then I want to see a "tongue-n-cheek" report about McTorture.

.

Breaking.... Matt Drudge sez King Kong sez Godzilla has cooties.

It's not demeaning. It's called humour. The fact that Dems don't object to this (while Republicans might) is a good thing and helpful in the election

No surprise when you think about the groups in charge of the American Media.

Sounds like Eliot Spitzer is getting a harder rap than Jeff Gannon... No surprise there.

OT: Eliot Spitzer what are you thinking man????

News doesn't sell anymore...

all sizzle and no steak does.

All this shows is that A) CNN will stoop to anything to get their point across which brings me to B) CNN supports Hillary and will waste no time to paint her as a lean, mean, fighting machine. After all, isn't that what we need in the white house? NOT!

Shouldn't there be some mud wrestling in that video montage too?

I wonder if there's any correlation between CNN's producers' collective IQ and the station's ratings.

This is so juvenile. Is this what or media has reduced themselves too? The constant spin, the stupid puns. I feel like I'm in a bad dream.

CNN panders to the American Idiot.
It might be an attempt at humor, but they are supposed to be a "serious" news organization.
Perhaps they might try doing the news instead of trying to get giggles.

Bill Maher was right - If Americans will put up with this, they are DUMB.

you are far too understanding.

this is just more of the debased shit that passes for 'journalism' in america. anything to degrade and mock the candidates -- esp if they are democrats -- is what these scumbags live for. turn off cnn.

If the librul media gets anymore librul...I'm just going to be speechless.

Now I know why people call CNN Faux News Lite.

CNN panders to the American Idiot and gives a pass to the American Treasonous.

Now they're both "monsters".

This is just riffing off of the "Clinton's a monster" dust-up - which itself was overblown. However, it did produce a tasty dressing down of the now-canceled Tucker Carlson.

The reporter who published the "monster" comment was interviewed on Tucker. He acted like the idiot is, and she blasted him for being acquiescent.

Tucker Carlson’s Ethics Education

I chuckled a bit. But REALLY CNN, was that news?

I wonder what the coverage on Spitzer will turn into. Maybe I can finally turn on the news and not have to watch HRC vs. BHO. Frankly I'm tiring of the primary coverage.

Remember when CNN used to be the most trusted name in news? Who trust CNN?

What does this make McCain - Mothra (McCainthra?) The Mummy (McMummy?)?

Yes,the point can be made that this is "humor".
That said its hard not to notice how when the subject turns to Democrats, the general tone--amongst journalists and talking heads--becomes snide, cynical and sarcastic.Back to the topic of Republicans? The tone becomes more serious and "grown up".

Back when I was in journalism school, the professors (many of them who were pioneers in television) used to say CNN stood for "Chicken Noodle Network".

Everything old is new again.

Sean Hannity is on the radio right now saying the King Kong camp is spreading word behind the scenes that Godzilla hasn't renounced Mothra enuf and dresses funny too.

Now he's chanting "fight! fight! fight!."

Oops.. comercial break... Hmmm... pay half what you really owe on your credit cards. ... damn... another comercial... going thru a tunnel... losing the signal ... damn!

"I understand the need to find ways to cover the primary race–one that has basically the same narrative for the last year: two candidates running basically neck and neck down to the wire–differently."

Why? Why not cut back on the coverage of the primaries and run news stories exposing the lies and excesses of the current administration?
That would serve the public well and be reponsible journalistically.

Mc Mothra is good. So is Mc Mummy. Mackula. Frankencain. (Reanimated death?)

i can only stomach MSNBC these days.

infotainment is not the same as news.

CNN is running breaking news story about the Democratic governor of New York Elliot Spitzer being involved in a prostitution ring. This should be rich:wall to wall coverage for weeks to come.

Whenever incidents of this kind happen, I try to imagine the commentary being spoken by Walter Cronkite.

Then I realize just how low the news media has sunk in my lifetime.

CNN is in the midst of an identity crisis.

"CNN has been reduced to..." They've done it to themselves!

Why don't they just inform us about the issues and what each candidates plans are on them? I know it's a real brainstorm of an idea but when I look up the word news, it says "a report of recent events." So instead of trying to entertain us, why don't they just REPORT the news event and not INVENT it? No wonder TV lost about 40% of it's audience recently.

If we were to do this for the repubicants, I'd go with Cronenberg's: The Fly vs The Smog Monster. The scale is wrong for these two opponents, perhaps, but the analogy gives me a wry giggle. Both are at turns repulsive, slimy, bad for the environment and hard to look at.

:)

I've got an idea. Let's have the comedy on one channel, and the journalism on another channel. That way, if I want comedy I can watch one channel, and if I want news I can watch the other channel.

We could call one channel "Comedy Central," and we could call the other, "the Cable News Network."

Wouldn't that be great?

Seriously, who says, "Let's turn on CNN, it so funny!"??

Bobdog @ 23:

What does this make McCain - Mothra (McCainthra?) The Mummy (McMummy?)?

Nah -- that's Beck.

Oh, wait, I thought you said Dummy.

Tucker Carlson’s Ethics Education

that was good! She spanked that little idiot. Gawd, I thought he was going to cry. What a fool, going after British journalists. Obviously he doesn't watch US MSM news or even his own show otherwise he would know she has a point.

Pablum... This CNN clip is nothing but pablum... And the analogy? Godzilla and King Kong? More of same... Who the fuck cares! Zero substance, like someone upthread said.. All sizzle, no steak doesn't mean anything.. Hillary is Queen Kong, Obama is Godzilla??? What a bunch of hokie cartoon bullshit! Fagitaboutit!

But here's the thing... The part that does mean... maybe everything... All the while Clinton and Obama tear into each other the RNC meme will be solidarity, togetherness, all for one one for all... Behind McCain...With the not so liberal media repeating the meme like so much Manchurian brainwashing. In other words they will arguably make the claim that they have a plan, have come together and are working to present something the American public will like and be willing to embace..

At the same time they will charactorize the Dems as divided, conflicted, uncertain of who they even want to lead them let alone what they want to do to fix the nation.. On this Pelosi is absolutely correct when she counsels them both to tone it down. IF the Clinton and Obama camps wants to play the scorched earth game tearing each other down at every turn an opportunity, the real losers are the DNC, the two candidates themselves and the nation as this plays right into the RNC's hands and allows them to laugh at the latest dem circular firing squad...

Both dem candidates and the nation will be better served if Hillary and Barack focus on their own positives and what they want to do to fix George W. Bush's screwups instead of this take no prisoners shit... IF they continue to go the no prisoners route, then they shouldn't be surprised if they receive no quarter from the undecideds come time to pull the trigger for real next november.. Consider yourselves warned for the umpteenth time dammit! Tic toc dems, tic toc.. Get it together. You'll never have a better opportunity to gain power again and fix this mess Bush made than you do right now, this year.....JD

Bush = McCain = Bush

"Why Is This Bush So Happy?"

"Because Bush has found someone to promise a Third Bush Term and protect Bushco."

White House press secretary Dana Perino denied last week that Bush and McCain had been longtime rivals. "Absolutely not," she said on Fox News.

"And while I think that might be a good story line for some people to say, to try, it's simply not true. And I would say that hasn't been true ever, but certainly after they were competitors, then, in 2000 and 2004, Senator McCain went on to work his tail off to help this president."

From the Bush WH

From Washington Post

McCain has also been a strong Bush ally, most especially in the battle to liberalize immigration laws and to create a path to citizenship for people living illegally in the United States. He has reversed himself on the tax cuts, saying they should be made permanent; he has become the biggest supporter of Bush's troop buildup in Iraq; and he sided with the president against a bill -- vetoed this weekend -- that would have banned waterboarding by the CIA. Congressional Quarterly reports that McCain supported Bush 90 percent of the time in five of the first six years of his presidency.

CNN has an identity?

This is all proof that the Media thrives on conflict that's easy to digest - the complexities of a candidates positions, even on something as easily understandable as waterboarding/torture is just not as fun as Movie Monster comaprisons.

As for "Mackula" -- I thought we'd already established it was Cheney who was the undead sucking life from newborns -- or is this just all Republicans?

CNN is obviously taking the outrageous path, monsters and all, but the interesting thing is the convergence of those professionals dropping out. Obama’s key adviser that started the monster term got fired, Two MSNBC reporters David Shuster, being suspended, Tucker getting cut, now Governor New York resigning for infidelity, at least he was straight. Plus the huge wave Republicans not going for reelection. Big, big gain of a House seat to the Democrats in Illinois. Huge, huge loose for the Republicans.

Obama indignantly blasts Hillary even though those supposed wins he has are in red states that will likely not vote for any Democrat is a flag of deception. The news media is being some what honest now that in all the rest of the primary will likely not make much difference. Both Obama and Hillary will need to win the minds of the delegates and a popular vote is not necessary. Just good solid rational.

Obama should begin to believe there are powerful forces in the Rezko trial. Care and caution needs to be in order for Obama for he may find himself as a co-conspirator in the trial. The Republicans are fierce in the attempts to win at any cost here; Obama may find himself in defense for a load of charges. All putting a damper on Obama’s pitch for the presidency. And fuel for McCain

If one reads Obama’s book “Audacity of Hope” you can observe hypocrisy through out the book. Especially, Obama’s own ideals about NAFTA or more like it was talked about in terms of world trade which he supports very much even though he knows it eliminates manufacturing jobs but created more service jobs. A very glowing contrast compared to his debates against Hillary. Which show strikingly what he says is different than what he believes in. Totally goes against the grain of Obama’s basic slogans. Plus diminishes that perception Obama really is a true Christian takes shape and solidifies as the primary moves forward. My personal opinion is Obama is on the fence for himself and there to serve everyone when the time is his advantage. If not Obama is just present, he illustrated that in the Illinois Senate.

I know there are some Obama voters who say they could never vote for Hillary. And there are some Hillary voters who say they could never vote for Obama. But in the words of Rachel Maddow "They need to get over it." (or something to that effect)

Do they really want MC CAIN in there? He has all but promised to continue the bush policies. WE CAN'T AFFORD 4-8 more years of this ____________ (fill in the blank with explitive of your choice) It seems sad that people will put personal hurt feelings over the needs of the country. And that includes the candidates as well.

A subtle message from CNN? As I recall Kong had some redeeming qualities. Though, like most great apes, he liked to throw fecal matter.

DUMB DOWN ALERT ! DUMB DOWN ALERT ! Media like this can lead to people like Bush getting into elected office. CNN.....telling lies since 1980.

Oh come now, my Merkin friends! That approach to, ah, what's the word - oh ya - news, was about as American as you can get (well, maybe a little Japanesey, too). Really - I sometimes think some of you on C&L are closet Canadians! You don't actually think a corporate news outfit like CNN isn't doing a far more professional job than say, our tax-funded CBC is doing, do you?

So who would be that excitable little boy who talks too fast, and his mouth continues to move after he's done?

well, personally i think they're both miscast in their monster roles. hillary should have been cast as gort, that fun loving ultra expressive robot "buddy" from the movie the day the earth stood still, and barack would have made a marvy dr. frankenfurter from the rocky horror picture show.

No, they support the candidate they don't make "humorous" hit pieces about: McCain. They made fun of everyone who ran against him. They bury his & his wife's trash for him on the rare occasions it appears elsewhere (e.g. NYT) & all but fall all over themselves "reporting" on him. They treat him like he's already won.

McFuckYou- the msmotherfuckers love it when he talks dirty to them. If he gits ‘em hot enough they might even admit they’re stinkophants by accident.

McClinton – If Hillary is going to draw favorable comparisons between herself and McSame in attempts to denigrate Obama’s readiness, that’s a sword that cuts both ways…and if she keeps cuttin’ herself, she’s gonna bleed out. Let’s just hope she doesn’t get it all over the place and spoil our party in January.

Keep McPileing on McCainophobes! The current McList numbers 573 and the entire list will be updated Sundays or whenever the hell I feel like it, and links will be posted on McDamnthisisgettingtobeareallyfuckinglonglistalmostlikeafulltimejob and/or Open threads daily (owthIfli) as well as the previous day’s contributions.

“Shorter lists are funnier” generally holds true, and very well may re the McList. McCainophobes are diverse and eclectic, and I’ve enjoyed many lols, LOLs, LOL!s and Ha ha’s here. I’m reluctant to exclude any McEntry, ’cause they’re all funny/pointed/cathartic to varying degrees, and the sheer length of the entire list has a humorous quality of its own.

We are also generating denigrating McMemes, some of which may be useful, in a memie sort of way. The thuglicontards are very aware of the usefulness of denigrating memes, and it won’t hurt to put out a few of our own.

That being said, a Top 11, Dirty Dozen, etc. are considerations, for those (myself included, usually) who like things condensed to essentials.

Will update at my convenience or tolerable inconvenience on pertinent threads.

And the fact is...neither of them can stand up against the mightiest of ALLLLL...Bill "Asszilla" O'Reilly.

I think they should do an piece on Crappy News Network vs Faux News.

More evidence of CNN adopting the Fox formula. You'd think that something like this would be enough to convince Republicans/Libertarians that the US media is not liberal, but as the existence of the Liberal Media is faith-based, there's no getting through to them.

Any people wonder why America is becoming irrelevant. If you didn't have all those "big guns"... (no one would listen).

Yes I think thats it! The Thousand Year McMummy staggers on ... dragging his decaying, dusty carcass across the stage: " More... MORE of the same... STAY the Course for 100 years... a thousand years.... AAAaarrrrgghhh!"

Ok, this is almost a backhanded insult.

First off they don't use Hillary's name and chose to use Obama's name

Second, if it were King Kong and Hillary-zilla (i.e. bridezilla) they would be in serious trouble.

Come to think of it this is pure-t bullshit, CNN knows exactly what they are doing.

Wow CNN - pithy! - not.

Red Lasso clips never work...

And these comments crash quite a bit too...

Mark Halperin's dirty trick on Time.

Obama belongs to a Rat Pack.

CNN has long been a cheerleader for the Clintons. Christiane Amanpour, the Amazon of the network, married to Mme Albright’s pet assistant, James Rubin, State Department Spokesperson at a time (conflict of interest?) when Amanpour was covering the story in the Balkans, and James Rubin's boss was urging Bill to bomb the sh*t out of a country that didn't attack us and posed no threat, based on an alleged genocide that never existed. So we bombed a country back to the Stone Age, targeting the entire civilian infrastructure of a country for 30 days of sustained bombing from the air. It was only Serbia. Maybe its leader, Slobodan Milošević, deserved it. But the Serbian people didn’t.

With Hillary all the same players are back today: Albright and Wesley Clark. Even Rubin himself is resurrected becomes a pundit speaking on Hillary's behalf.

Okay, they get points for including Mecho-Godzilla.

This is fine for a silly fluff filler piece. The problem is that the MSM rarely seems to get much more substantive.

Wow! They make themselves look soooo unprofessional. I wonder why they have started doing that. I have noticed they asre using their ticker to make the most outlandish and partisan attacks these days.

Just be happy it wasn't the other way around....

Barack lobs a bunch of shit at Hillary.
Hillary lobs a bunch of shit at Obama.

Two infantile morons.

Hello President McCain.

And of course, everyone will blame Ralph Nader.

Pathetic. I was going to comment, but it's not worth the energy.

Ouch. That's some twisted stuff. I blame newt gingrich, the grinch that stole civics.

What is wrong with this? Doesn't everyone know that all Dems and leftists are cartoon characters, in contrast to the "serious": Republicanists, incompetent hacks, right wing think-tank denizens, etc

Well it isn't exactly new, the "Monster" meme has been circulating around for weeks. Hugh Hewitt and other conservative talkers have been likening Hillary to 'The Mummy', 'Dracula' and the 'Wicked Witch'. Its funny though that 'Barack' has been included in the analogy now. I wonder what that makes McCain?
Read Hillary Clinton is a 'Monster Heel'

After Hillary's revival with Primary wins in Texas and Ohio, many conservative commentators spoke of Hillary's comeback using some curious analogies. In a single 30 minute segment of Hugh Hewitt's show, there were at least a half dozen different analogies to describe Hillary's comeback. Most were monster comparisons.

Hugh likening Hillary to the Mummy
"She's coming out of the crypt, Hillary is back!" and "I'm concerned that we have brought the mummy out of the tomb."

This is all so ridiculous, first of all don't they have real news? Second, we all know Barack is a new monster that gets the young people excited, has CNN not heard of Cloverfield?
