Aspiring Idaho politician changes name to 'Pro-Life'

And he's running for Larry Craig's old seat. What's the matter with Idaho?

CBS News:

A Senate candidate has legally changed his name to Pro-Life and will appear on the ballot that way this year, state election officials say.

As Marvin Pro-Life Richardson, the organic strawberry farmer from Letha, 30 miles northwest of Boise, was denied the use of his middle name when he ran unsuccessfully for governor in 2006 because the state's policy bars the use of slogans on the ballot.

Now, though, officials in the Idaho secretary of state's office say they have no choice because Pro-Life is his full and only name. He says he will run for the highest state office on the ballot every two years for the rest of his life, advocating murder charges for doctors who perform abortions and for women who obtain the procedure.

Craig failed to file the necessary re-election papers, thereby keeping his promise to retire.

"I don’t get pro lifers, on the one hand they couldn’t care less about children with no health care, but on the other hand they want to dictate to others how to live."

Here's another thing I don't get about religous "pro-lifers". Why is collateral damage (which is 1st or 2nd degree murder) during war a-ok? I would respect these guys if they were the ultimate pacifists but, in general, I have found, by in large, that they are not.

Also, they are usually big advocates for deadly force in self-defense also. Why not just let god sort it out and dole out the appropriate punishment in the end-times and continue to passivelypray for things to get better and attempt to peacefully convert infidels to your belief system? Better yet, thank the abortion doctors for sending the unborn to a faster reunion with Yahweh...or whomever...without the pitstop of this mortal life.

If someone wants to get an abortion then why in holy hell would anyone think that person would be a ideal candidate to be a parent at that time, especially when forced? This jackass needs to put those Idaho libertarian ideals to work and stay out of peoples personal affairs.

Or if anyone thinks that "life" starts a conception then the answer is simple...remove the fertilized egg immediately and see out viable and independent it really is.

I do believe that there should be a provision in the law where as if someone causes an unwanted pregnacy termination there should be criminal action against the offender taken after consulting with the woman (or her family in the case of murder).

Let me guess: he's opposed to comprehensive sex education and health coverage for oral contraceptives, things that would prevent an assload of pregnancies in the first place, and thereby reduce the call for abortion.

So tell me: are pro-lifers stupid, or just lying about their motives?

There's nothing brilliant about advertising ignorance..........

I think the Pro-Life movement in general is not based in ignorance. When you start looking at the people that are pro-life and see that they are pro-death penalty, pro-war, and see that many of them are against providing health care or proper foster care for kids, then yeah there is ignorance. If we could provide a happy home for every (i cringe to say) unwanted child, then I would probably be a big pro-lifer, but since that world is an illusion at worst and a fairy tale at best, then I will remain pro-choice.

It's simple. "Pro life" is only a code word. What they really are is pro punishment. Their whole religion is based on punishment for anyone who doesn't follow their narrow minded rules. Forcing a poor, preferably dark-skinned, woman to give birth to an unwanted child is punishment for having sex that is not sanctioned within their regressive religious world view. For them, the fact that that child will most likely live a life of misery is just icing on the cake. You see, their religion also celebrates the concept of punishment for the descendants of "sinners", and their descendants, and so on for generations to come. They revel in the belief of a vengeful god.

Richardson is a truly unique candidate whose political position is so astonishingly limited and yet so universally applicable to every issue:

Taxes: abortion causes taxes

Agriculture: Private property is paramount and abortion limits the industry

Education: Public education should be abolished because it promotes abortion

Government: Most positions should be abolished and so should abortion

Can't wait for the next televised debate. This will be the highlight of the election cycle.

Reminds me of a Tennessee politician—Byron Looper—who legally changed his middle name from Anthony to "Low Tax" when he ran for state senate.

So I can assume that he is completely against all wars, will fight to bring our troops home from Afghanistan and Iraq. He will fight to change the constitution to take all the guns away from Americans. He will fight to reduce the Military budget for the United States by about 90%. He will support single payer health care to assure that all Americans do not die from the lack of combatant medical help. I am sure he will want the national speed limit to be reduced to about 50mph to reduce the fatal accidents. Of course he is anti death penalty so he will fight for a national ban. He will want to pour vast amounts of money into medical research and supports college education for every American child.

He probably changed his middle name to "pro-war" too and doesn't even see that it's an oxyMORON.

Can we just drop the south and midwest and advance and evolve as a peoples and a nation? These ignorant bastards have drug America down long enough.

I've just realized who this guy is:

Malcolm Peter Brian Telescope Adrian Umbrella Stand Jasper Wednesday (pops mouth twice) Stoatgobbler John Raw Vegetable (sound effect of horse whinnying) Arthur Norman Michael (blows squeaker) Featherstone Smith (blows whistle) Northgot Edwards Harris (fires pistol, then 'whoop') Mason (chuff-chuff-chuff-chuff) Frampton Jones Fruitbat Gilbert (sings) 'We'll keep a welcome in the' (three shots, stops singing) Williams If I Could Walk That Way Jenkin (squeaker) Tiger-drawers Pratt Thompson (sings) 'Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head' Darcy Carter (horn) Pussycat 'Don't Sleep In The Subway' Barton Mainwaring (hoot, 'whoop') Smith

Representing the Very Silly party. He just needs to keep adding names.

Again...this kinda shit is everywhere. Not confined to any one region, race or religion.
That being said...I sometimes feel that the right and the left are too completely different to live together for much longer...they want a fascist, hypocritical theocracy...the left...freedom, democracy, and truthiness...ya know...what America is SUPPOSED to be.

Somebody ought to give him an involuntary, post-partem abortion.

Captain America's picture

BWAHAHA! That's hysterical. If Idahoans are stupid enough to vote for a guy who's so obsessed with abortion, I'm sure they won't mind sleeping in cardboard boxes when their houses are foreclosed on.

Robt's picture

These one issue zealots are Rush/Rovian in real life...

It doesn't matter what else is going on in the world as long as this one single issue is forced.

Some would think that Mr Pro life Richardson could understand that Planned Parenthood, Roe v Wade does not Forced anything on any female.

Why doesn't he try to teach or sway people against what engulfs his reality and blinds him.

When the NRA states Guns don't kill people it should dawn on Mr Pro Life that Planned Parenthood and the likes don't either......................................

There is nothing wrong with Idaho. It is a wonderful state filled with wonderful people....we do seem to produce some dumb-ass politicians though...but it is really unfair to predicate their idiocy to us...and the fact that they win? It ain't just us what elects corrupt hypocrites so it isn't really fair to ask what the matter with Idaho.

Fair enough. I live in Michigan which is a very blue state. Yet we had Dick Devos run for governor (Eric Prince's brother-in-law), and have a few of the most crazy-assed GOP congresscritters (thanks to gerrymandering) you can find.

LibertyLover's picture

Pro- Life? Let's see, he advocates murder charges for doctors and pregnant women that obtain the procedure. Idaho uses lethal injections AND a firing squad if lethal injection is "impractical." Yep. Don't see any inconsistency there.

Perhaps Idaho should adopt a law that allows only the last name of candidates on the ballot. Then Mr. Richardson would have to change his last name as well.

mr bigstuff @ 31:

here in tennessee, we had a case of a similar name changer. byron looper faced dismal prospects in his run against the popular long time state senator tommy burks. so byron changed his name to "low tax" in an effort to get his message across to the voters. unfortunately, before the election the prospects for a "low tax" victory were much worse than slim to none. being a typical republican, "low tax" decided his best chance for an election upset was to ambush and brutally murder senator burks with a handgun. now "low tax" is locked up in the riverbend maximim security prison in nashville offering his political allegiences to the aryan brotherhood or crips whenever convenient.

exactly who was on my mind when I read this....gee, who's this bozo gonna kill when he loses his election?

What's wrong with Idaho, you ask? It's in the middle of nowhere. This guy should get out more often.

I don't get pro lifers, on the one hand they couldn't care less about children with no health care, but on the other hand they want to dictate to others how to live.

I wonder if someone will ask him if he supports this war. His answer is most likely yes. I guess women should just keep having babies so when they grow up they can become cannon fodder for their incessant wars. Guys like him give me the creeps.

Vickif's picture

RayC Hussein @ 71:

So I can assume that he is completely against all wars, will fight to bring our troops home from Afghanistan and Iraq. He will fight to change the constitution to take all the guns away from Americans. He will fight to reduce the Military budget for the United States by about 90%. He will support single payer health care to assure that all Americans do not die from the lack of combatant medical help. I am sure he will want the national speed limit to be reduced to about 50mph to reduce the fatal accidents. Of course he is anti death penalty so he will fight for a national ban. He will want to pour vast amounts of money into medical research and supports college education for every American child.

I wish we did have any politician who was for all this.

Why doesn't the phoney change his name to Health-Care?

Maybe more access to Health-Care would mean abortion would be less of an option to women!!!

The weird thing is,these sanctimonious assholes are pretty much ALL "pro war".
