Race For The White House: Scarborough Doesn't Need No Stinkin' Facts To Know McCain Is A Maverick

I saw this video Joe Sudbay posted this morning and thought it was worth passing along. Rachel Maddow tried to point out the fallacies in Joe Scarborough's glowing, fact-free praise of John McCain on MSNBC's Race For The White House.
The Scar continues to spew this ridiculous media narrative that John McCain is a "maverick," completely disregarding the myriad of flip flops the aging Arizona senator has made over the past year. Rachel tries to put him in his place, reminding him that McCain has been pandering to the right on all the major issues including permanent tax cuts, immigration and torture, but all Scarborough does is tell her that she doesn't understand the Republican party. True dat, since she is the lone voice of reason and we all know that facts have a liberal bias. Scarborough loves to steamroll Mika Brzezkinski on his morning show, but as you'll see from this video, his bullying style gets him nowhere with Maddow.
Partial transcript with links to facts below the fold
JS: He refused to tell Tim Russert that he made a mistake voting against—he was one of two Republicans that voted against Bush’s tax cuts. Conservatives will tell you that two things that Bush did right…
RM: And then he changed his mind about them, Joe.
JS: No, he hasn’t changed his mind.
RM: He says he wants them to be permanent now…
JS: He told Tim Russert on Meet the Press in New Hampshire when his life…political life was on the line that he made the right call. He was glad he voted against them.
RM: And now he wants them to be made permanent. He is…He’s pandering to the right and it defies the media happy talk that they like about John McCain…
JS: Okay …whatever…
RM: …but how else to do you explain going after the John Hagee endorsement, going after the Rod Parsley endorsement…
JS: Okay…You know what? Let’s see, let’s see…the Democrats…
RM:…changing his mind on torture, changing his mind on the tax cuts…
JS: Rachel… Good lord…
RM: I’m sorry, but the facts don’t meet…don’t meet your storyline here, but the storyline ought to change to conform to the facts, rather than denying the facts.
JS: Rachel, if you compare, let me just say this. Compare the rigid ideological views of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton with the Democratic Party. The most progressive people in the Democratic Party. Compare that to what John McCain did with the Republican Party. There is no comparison. McCain has gone more towards the middle over the past four years than either of those two. That’s just the bottom line.
RM: That’s absolutely incorrect.

As much as anything else, presidential campaigns are won and lost by the media narratives that rightly or wrongly come to define a candidate. In the case of Repubican nominee John McCain, the seemingly unshakable narrative of the political "maverick" could not be further off the mark. At almost every turn, McCain in his eternal quest for the White House has reversed long-held positions, compromised core principles and swallowed his pride in order to curry favor with both the leading lights of the conservative movement and right-wing Republican primary voters. The untold story of campaign 2008 is simply that of John McCain's transformation from maverick to prostitute.
For the details, see:
"From Maverick to Prostitute: The Untold Story of John McCain."
I still get this knob confused with Tucker Carlson.
Rachel Maddow should be the first US Secretary of Debunking Bullshit, if only for us to see what the DoDB seal would look like.
Why does Msnbc keep this Joe dude on air? I have tried and tried to watch Morning Joe, but cannot stand it for more than 15 or 20 minutes. He constantly ridicules Mika. He is totally scarcastic and not even a little bit respectful. And that goes on for 3 solid hours. Actually Fox and Friends is sometimes much better and that is saying something.
wtf is a maverick?
Angry brings up a good point (in a semi-spam sort of way): After John McCain loses the presidential race (I will not fear. Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little death), will he keep up with his prison-bitch relationship with those he's whored himself out to, or will he try to go back to being the kinda-sorta maverick that takes crazy political stands in defiance of his party leadership(like "Torture is bad.")?
This whole meme that Republicans hate McCain is horse crap. They are pressing that and the maverick thing because the Republicans' only hope this year is to attract independents so they pretend that Republicans hate him which makes him seem like an attractive alternative to the people who have spent the last eight years asleep. There are more than enough of them to turn an election. This whole fiction that Republicans won't support McCain must be exposed vigorously and often.
Douchebag didn't lsten to one thing she said, just tried to shout over her. Why the fuck don't the show 'moderators' actually provide fact checking of the assholes on their shows? Oh, right...'cause they don't want to let the facts hinder the douchebaggery of the right.
That's the way to do it: Laugh in his face!!
I heart Rachel Maddow.

mudshark @ 11:
actually, this is small Mavericks.
Scar hates it when "the little ladies" speak down to him. Just ask Lori Klausutis.
Rock on Rachel! She's getting loads of airtime and is doing us proud with this time.
Keith @ 10:
Thanks, Keith. I was this close to breaking down and buying a membership to Air America.
Scarborough was frustrted because Maddow was wiping the floor with him with a little thing called REALITY.
Rachel Maddow can mop the floor with just about anybody on the TV or radio talking head circuit, so watching Maddow clean up Java Joe is entertaining, but hardly unexpected. She shows him for the lightweight he is.
I usually won`t watch Scarborough in the AM, because of his inflated ego. I feel so bad for Mica and wish she would smack him upside the head! He won`t let her or anyone else finish a sentence. His only redeeming quality is his occasional Bush bashing.
Also, Scar is so full of it when he tries to pretend he's "balanced" because he's been critical of Bush. As Derrick Coleman would say, "whoop-de-damn-do!" He only became critical when the glaring debacle was so obvious that he could use as political cover to state what any fool could see. Back in '02-05 when honest criticism would have taken at least some measure of guts, he was too busy painting those who took opposite views as cowards and traitors. He's the freakin' coward.
With the facts on her side while all he could do was sputter, Rachel Maddow didn't have to bite it off and spit it out; it would have shriveled even more with her every refusal to STFU, had Joe Scarborough not been dickless* all along.
*CF Ghostbusters
I will never watch his crap show. You'd have to pay me to watch that bs. No wonder this country is so effed up, with trash like that being pumped into American brains every day before work. Sad.
Jimmy @ 5:
An unbranded cow.
McCain is a sacrifice offered up by the RNC during an election cycle they know they can't win.
The RNC knows that whoever the next prez is, that person is going to have to deal with consequences of Bush's presidency and it won't be pretty. And the RNC is perfectly happy if the person who has to deal with Bush's mess is a Dem, even better if its a Dem woman or black person.
Why else do you think the Repub primary field was so crappy? Giuliani and Mitt were the leaders of the most liberal places out there. Thompson was completely useless, Ron Paul was a nutcase. Tancredo was a racist nutcase. Who is left? McCain, a quasi-conservative who is too old to matter if they use him up here and now.
Ed@4
I thought that the seal would be obvious, a toilet or toilet plunger.
Maybe Rachel should point out that Barak and Hillary having been pandering to the far left, Iraq War, "fair economy", unions, health care, on and on...
Joe is rarely restrained. They usually find women dead in his office.
What#8 HDon said. The only way Mr Joe could argue with her was to shout her down. This is the mark of a loser in a debate. Cheap shot Joe.
chris @ 25:

chris @ 25:
Actually based on current polls none of those positions are far left. They are all mainstream. Bush aint below 30% popularity because he's a centrist you know.
Scab-face is just an MSNBC tool. He was paid to be the asshole rightwinger on his old show, which was a bust, along with miss breathless-big-bosom Rita cosby (pardon the pun.) When MSNBC realigned the shows, he became a "maverick" like McInsane, i.e. in name only. He, like McInsane, are just focused on the gold and anything they feel they need to do to keep on the path, they will do. Nevertheless, I just can't imagine how they get Scab away from a mirrior long enough to stare at the camera. (Has anyone noticed how Scab sounds and looks a bit like John Wayne?) Also he claims to be from panhandle Florida, but he sounds like a yankee to me.
Ed @ 3:
I'm fed up with all this McCain/Hillary/Barry Bullshit!
I'm writing in Rachel Maddow! I'd trust her at 3 a.m more than anybody!!!
SteveinSC @ 30:
*deep breath* Yes, thanks for pointing it out. Sometimes I forget. These people are paid to behave EXACTLY the way they behave in order to fulfill some marketing/progam director's idea of what should be in that spot to reach the demographic of blah blah blah.
who is more batshit crazy mcsnoodles or scarface? its a frickin tie!
Filthy Harry @ 29:
They are pandering to them, Hello Hillary voted for the war!! You and I, well maybe just I, know that public opinion can change ona dime, remember, the American people supported the war for a while. Furthermore, americans are dumb, they don't know what universal health care is, or what is would cost. Once you break it down for them then they get it, well some of them....
chris @ 25:
Actually chris, I'm far left. Neither of those two have been pandering to me. They have, however been courting people who are to the right of me. You are probably thinking of centrists.
No one panders to the far left.
According to Wikipedia, (your grain of salt may vary) a "maverick" was named after a Western rancher who did not brand his calves, thus making them vulnerable to being branded, and claimed, by others.
Is it ironic, or not?
Because this fella's Brand is Republican.
And they are welcome to him.
chris @ 34:
So now you are saying the far left wanted war? Put the crack pipe down, dude.
Mika's dad cannot possibly be proud of her for how she allow Joe to roll over her, talk down to her in what I think is the most Frat Boy Sexist way that I have witnessed. And I am southerner who has to put up with Frat Boys all the time...and suppose the nation has likely had a belly full of the biggest Frat Boy of all...Dubya Bush. Hopefully Mika can look herself in the mirror ...and that she feels like her education wasn't a waste of her families money. It was delightful to see a gay chick take Frat Boy down. Keep it up Rachel.
BTW,
The only thing that approached our happiness when Scar was on after Olbermann,
was his stunned, pole-axed look when the camera switched to him after one of Olbermann's Special Comments.
Priceless.
I heard McCain say exactly as Rachael said. He wants Bush tax cuts permanent. Scarborough is another republican idiot.
How do you reply "whatever"? Good christ, Scar is an idiot. That has to be the most frustratingly stupid thing I have ever seen in my life.
Jimmy @ 5:
A "maverick", according to Ole' "Dead Intern Joe" Scarborough is someone like McSame who can flip-flop on countless issues and con the media that he's schmoozed and bullshitted into thinking it's "straight talk". Seriously though, Rachel kicks Scarborough's sorry ass all over the set and he's left sounding like as Joe Pesci said in "GoodFellas", a "mumbling, stuttering prick". And make no mistake, Scar is a major league prick.
Rachel Maddow is the only voice of reason on MSNBC. Joe, Tweetie, KO, and all the rest are shills for the corporate heads. Give her a show of her own. Move that idiot Matthews to whatever closet they placed Tucker and slide her into that slot. She is smart, analytical, articulate and does not let her biases get in the way as do the others. She has her own show on Air America and does quite well because she discusses the issues. Unlike the others who continually either slap down Hillary or pee all over themselves regarding McCain. Outshouting, interrupting, putting down, belittling and humiliating females does not an audience gain.
Scarborough in a nutshell: flip-flopping on positions is proof that McCain is centrist!
Uh, yeah, right....
dear lord David Gregory's show is un-watchable. awful. horrid. he comes off like a monkey. scarborough is in the running for 'biggest blowhard' on TV who isn't Lou Dobbs. Rachel is awesome, too bad her contract probably forces her to appear on that show. it shouldn't be dignified with her presence.
Maddow is always at her best when she's under fire. She just won't flinch.
That's just an observation.
Jimmy @ 5:
Here are a couple of Mavericks, Bret and Bart.
Abbybwood @ 31:

Ignoramus
Spurning a right wing nut job like dobson is not "moving toward the middle." GOP has moved so far to the right that even American conservatives feel uncomfortable. McCain is flip flopping and dancing so he can get elected. And btw Scar, there are no truly left wing candidates out there, they're all "in the middle" cuz that's all the media will allow. (asswipe)
THE JOE SCARBOROUGH PLAYBOOK
Moves Against Rachel Maddow
1. If Rachel offers a list of instances of McCain's flip-flop pandering to the conservative base, hone in on just one, and say, "If that's all you've got against McCain . . . "
2. If Rachel's comments last for more than five seconds, interrupt her.
3. If Rachel asks for an explanation of McCain's flip-flop pandering to the conservative base, resort to ad hominem hypocrisy by pointing out that the Democrats pander as well.
4. When all else fails, just call the Democratic candidates "the most progressive" people in the party, truth be damned.
chris @ 34:
universal health care would cost less than the GOP tax cuts for the rich and the GOP oil war for big oil and Halliburton. The GOP agenda is to take middle class tax dollars to use for themselves, their wars and their corporate cronies while cutting the programs designed to help the American middle class. The GOP agenda of death and destruction for profit is to use our tax dollars to kill rather than for health care to heal.
chris @ 25:
hilarious. the "far left" in this country is defined by discerning folks like yourself by opposition to the Iraq war. which 70% of the population, roughly, opposes. ok, thanks! great. actually, this isn't what you call 'pandering to the "far left"'. this is just what the candidates want to do anyways. the "far left" barely exists anymore, at all, but they are the people with the giant puppets and the strange, unproductive but highly interesting gadgets at things like Burning Man. nobody is 'pandering' to the far left, they are out of the conversation. which is a shame since Conservative idiots who know absolutely nothing about what they're talking about are almost always invited guests at nearly every important televised segment. vast majorities of people support environmental reforms, ending the war, health care reform. there is no need to 'pander' to these people, the Dem. candidates are already offering things they want.
HAHAHAHAHA!!!
It's hilarious watching Scar try to be Sean Hannity--does he have any idea how fucking RIDICULOUS he looks and sounds when he's doing this schtick?
As long as MSNBC continues to parade this wannabe-hack (alongside Chris Matthews and that BORING-ASS Dan Abrams) on the air several times of day, I say they deserve the paltry ratings that they get.
Joe Scarborough is an exact copy of Chris Matthews - they're the same guy. Personalities with a particular partisan bent to them that sway from side to side now and then to promote the network and its story lines. And then on top of that they constantly get caught saying assinine things just to try to help ratings. There's never any facts behind these two, just conjecture and silly jokes about ethnic origins and potatoes or some crap like that.
Obama and Hillary are the "most progressive"? What happened to the great gulf separating both of them from Kucinich?
chris @ 25:
Thanks for the imput, concern troll. You're right, though: a fair economy, unions to pay workers a living wage and give them a retirement and health benefits, health care are things I'd hang my hat on any day. Sorry you trolls reject those things for endless war and death, revealing the identity of a covert CIA agent that was investigating Iran's nuclear program, cheating taxpayers out of there hard earned money, bailing out big business, rigging elections, spying on US citizens, tripling the national debt, having the highest rate of home foreclosures in history. These are all things of which you are proud, I'm sure.
I'll stick with unions, a fair economy and universal health care any day. Got facts, troll?
chris @ 25:
That "far left" holding those positions is the majority of Americans.
Filthy Harry @ 23:
I agree, he's Bob Dole 2.0. its his 'turn', he earned it by hugging Bush in public and all. what Obama has to worry about, strategically, is the Repugs trying to regroup in the Congress for a 'revolution' 94-style. and the main way for him to do that will be, I think, to really unite the Democrats first. don't pull a Clinton and force anything like NAFTA down people's throats. get on a role with good, important legislation on Iraq, health care, energy, taxes (and waaaay play up the middle class tax cut he's proposed so they only have the rich to rally against it). get on a roll and build approval by getting things done so there's nothing to really rebel against. then he can start peeling off votes by Repub. senators in unsafe states and house members in unsafe districts. McCain actually probably is the Repub's best chance to somehow hold the White House. Romney was a joke, Giuliani took himself out in the most astonishing manner, like, ever...Hucakbee's 'fair tax' was easily tagged as crazy talk right away, despite his populist appeal. the rest of the R. candidates were a collective joke, except Ron Paul who would never win in a million years.
Rachel Maddow is the best thing to happen to television in years. She is sharp as a tack.
chris @ 34:
Wow, for an ignorant troll with no facts at your disposal to back you up, you sure have an elevated opinion of yourself.
A majority of 1. ROFLMAO!
I am a married woman in love with Rachel Maddow. She is the only one who can confront Scar to the point where he has to change the subject. She is even better on radio where she can be more herself. I am her mother's age, and Rachel is my role model.
Jimmy @ 5:
A maverick is the last vestage of white male rule for the top 1%, the corporate media elite whose paychecks depend upon division and sterotypes, and the military industrial complex. We were warned about this from one of their own who saw the handwriting on the wall years ago. We didn't listen to "Ike" then, and if the media has their way, just enough idiots who think the corporate class gives a damn about them, will build up and vote for another old man who was almost last in his class, has a hair trigger temper, and flip flops and lies on important issues. Long story short...a maverick is Bush 3 and may just be the next and possibly last "President of the United States!"
miss_kitty Hussein @ 37:
He's saying that Clinton wanted war, and that by now calling for the war's (gradual) end, she's pandering.
Of course, this doesn't really help his position (whatever it is -- after all, the mere fact that Democrats pander sometimes doesn't mean that McCain isn't pandering right now).
First, though Chris listed numerous issues on which he accused both Clinton and Obama of pandering to the "far left" (we barely even have a left, much less a far left, in this country), the only real example of pandering he could illuminate was Clinton's war vote. He implicitly conceded the argument on the rest of the issues.
Moreover, since none of those issues qualify as "far left," even if we say that Clinton is pandering on the war, we're saying she's a right-leaning politician pandering to the mainstream. McCain, on the other hand, is a one-time conservative pandering to the far-right -- neo-cons and theocrats -- when he had tried to make a career of being neither.
Does "Dr. Maddow" have her own show yet? C'mon MSNBC, get with the game.
Karen @ 51:
Exactly right. JO-JO the dog-faced boy has nothing. Like most wingnuts, he thinks loud and rude is smart. Like most wingnuts, he's wrong.
blog responder @ 56:
shhh havent you heard , ? hes unelectable! hes to short! he doesnt fit the idea of ones idea of a president! we like what he said but!hes to far to the left! hes batshit crazy because he wants the same things we do! and hes not black or a woman!!!!!!!!!did i leave anything out?
chris @ 34:
Oh, I agree they are pandering. However my point is still valid: The positions you listed are not 'far left'. They are pandering, but only to the middle. If they were pandering to the far left they'd be calling for war crimes tribunals and impeachment proceedings. (and legalizing it *wink*)
onceler @ 59:
Actually, I think though he's 'earned' the right to run, the RNC expects him to lose. They're using him up. Though I'm opposed to the point of nausea to almost all of the conservative platform's agenda, I still find it hard to believe there are no leading lights of the republican party they could have gotten to run. They want McCain to lose. So the dems can take the blame for Bush's incompetence/crimes. Any smart, charismatic, clean republican is wisely sitting this one out, thus the crop we got running this go round.
i thought not!!!!!!!!!
Rachel Maddow is without doubt the greatest on air debater. Scarborough is way out of his league.
Good job Rachel. Making republicans look stupid is getting easier every day.
woodguy @ 57:
"give them" retirement and health benefits, how about you earn it, this is a America, we don't give you any thing, well, atleast we used to be that way , thank you democrats. Everyone is capable of buying there own retirement and health benefits, its just how they manage money, ie. getting a good education to get a good job and living within your means, no kids you can't afford.!! Oh yea, "cheating tax payers" your right, the millionaire who actually pay taxes are giving money to the family of four on $50000 a year who get more back than he pays.
Why do conservatives always defend their talking points by saying something to the effect that one has to be a conservative in order to understand conservatives? It isn't important that a convincing argument is one that persuades all points of view. It's like conservatives have a secret club with secret handshakes and coded words spoken with raised eyebrows. Actions performed by a conservative in this reality are only truly seen by other conservatives. Other life forms that may happen to notice conservatives in action are witnessing an illusion and thus can not be trusted to give a correct analysis.
Scarborough, you are so lame.
Joe just got beat up by a woman. How manly are you now, Scar? What a neo-wussy-guy!
chris the NEW NEW Liberal @ 73:
"Everyone is capable of buying there [sic] own retirement and health benefits?" That's verifiably false. But go ahead and keep pushing your multimillionaires-are-getting-screwed theme and see how much credibility it gets you.
Joe is used to clubbing woman unconscious and leaving them for dead. He doesn't know how to deal with a fighter.
-GSD
Scarborough is pompous ass...and he proves it every time he opens his mouth.
.
I heart Rachel Maddow.
Margaret @ 7:
Good point. And the Democratic Party is sleeping at the wheel. Maybe they are going to do something once we have our nominee, but for Hillary and Barack to be picking at each other is a waste of energy and detracts from the issue.
The main point is.....a monkey's uncle would be better than anything the repugs can throw in to the White House.
I think the media is playing footise on McCain. When the media will stop covering GOP's ass?
I stopped watching Morning Joe at least a month ago because of Joe's attitude toward women. The stronger the woman, the more disdain he exhibits. Rachel is much too analytical for Race to the White House panel from which your video was taken. I've been watching Race, but am going to stop it. Joe wasn't there today, for a change, but the discussion was about Obama's interview with Matthews and Obama's discussion about the use judgment in national security issues.
David Gregory told the panel that George Bush used good judgment when he didn't bomb Iraq immediately after 9/11, that he waited and considered what to do before bombing. David must be one of 25% of Americans who think the Twin Towers were bombed by Iraqis. I wrote to the show that David had either lost his mind or was demonstrating bias from his White House press corps days. Can you imagine characterizing Bush as showing good judgment re: the decision to bomb Iraq?
There isn't much to watch on TV except Keith, C-SPAN, John Adams, and PBS on Friday night.
First of all- Get em, Rachel. You are the best... and happy belated birthday.
Secondly, Joe Scarborough is the living, breathing example of why I, a progressive Georgia gal, did not marry until I was 34.
Yes, not all southern men are like that grits-fed idiot, but all of the ones that I met were.
I thank God every single day for my kind, Perdue/Harvard-educated, midwestern MAN.
If the best that I had to look forward to was a JS chickenhawk clone, then a battery-powered friend seems infinitely better.
What a hooter brain.
Louder does not equal smarter.
Keith @ 10:
Thanks Keith. I love this woman for she is THE MOST brilliant mind in politics today. She puts Scarborough to shame, and it shows in his bully tactics and patronizing BS, as if to claim she's the one pulling crazy talk out of her arse rather than him.
Impeach cheney and bush @ 40:
Bingo!
Rachel Maddow Should Work Else Where
Her strong opinion has highlighted Air American for a long time. Why would she turn that in for the often three to one ratio of Liberals to Conservatives at MSNBC. I know the right to chose where they work is hers not mine, but it does seem she is out of her element. She was drowned out by Joe Scarborough’s spin claim.
Often this site has been able to point out Scarborough is wrong most of the time. This is no exception to his partisan claims. This guy lost his prime time spot to Dan Abrams. His show was too conservative and contrived to favor conservative ideology. The viewers don't like him, and judging the comments on this story, we don't care for him either.
Joseph
It's actually quite simple. They're both just trying to play for the middle. Rachel Maddow wants McCain to seem as extreme as possible because she's a democrat and doesn't want him to win the middle and thus the election. Joe Scarborough wants McCain to seem as close to the middle as possible so McCain can win the election. Both of them are biased and people should make up their own minds about where McCain stands.
Wasn't there something about a dead girl in Joe's office? Something..............
I <3 Rachel
Joseph @ 86:
It seemed more like she drowned him out with facts!
Give him a break!
He knows his party has been taken over by-
Squadrons of war hungry maggots,
Clusters of theocracy loving worms,
Assemblies of hypocritical still in the closet whiners, and
Rafts of rich, mealy-mouthed elitists all spearheaded by "to hell with the people" corporatists!
So he can't find his footing and
He's a sheep and
Is disinformationist for the lowly decider and the conformist- oops...
That should read, maverick?
Give Joe, the whining insidious scamp, a break...
Maybe he'll shut his fool trap...
Rachel Maddow is a joke on that show, literally. The other guests actually laugh at alot of what she says. Its because shes so partisan that she's not at all objective, and that becomes so glaringly obvious sometimes that it makes you laugh out loud.
I think Scarborough is correct. McCain has tried to move to the right to get conservative votes, but they dont trust him, and for good reason because he has literally, on many occasions, over the last decade, voted against them and with democrats in the senate. The voters know this too, they know he's pandering to conservatives to win the nomination and keep the republican party together. They are not going to buy Maddows wishful spin.
To not realize this isnt dealing with reality, and thats how you lose elections. Trying to frame him as a right wing conservative isnt going to work no matter how much we may want to believe it, because it isnt true. We need some other strategy, something thats based on facts.
I am still thankful for the segment Scarborough did some time ago entitled " Is Bush an idiot " ? Can still be seen on you tube and else where I am sure . Was a gem and certainly answered the question , not that there was any doubt about it . As for MCcain being a " Maverick " , he sold out and fell in line with the rest of the assholes in his party . I don't think MCcain himself knows who he is anymore .
Political Guy @ 87:
Yeah, except that Rachel doesn't try to make McCain seem more extreme by making shit up about him, instead she simply cites the FACTS, whereas your friend Scarborough couldn't care less about reality. Nice try but your logic doesn't quite cut it. That is, unless you're Joe Scarborough or any Bush-loving republican, in which case, it makes perfect sense.
[Deleted. Thread spam-Sitemonitor]
Jonesy @ 92:
Scars is not saying that McCain is trying to move to the right, but moving to the middle. We watch the same video, figure it out.
What wishful spin was Maddow trying to do? be specific! she was very specific with the fact, at least you can do the same for her. Do you deny that McCain wants to make the tax cuts permanent? Do you deny that John McCain seek Hagee endorsement for the nomination? Do you deny that the republican base think he is not conservative enough and that he has flip flop his position to the right? These were Maddow counter point of John McCain standing with Joe Scarborough opinion.
I wonder how a 35 year old woman get this position? It's not that hard to refute a Republican ideology.
The Republican basic creed is preserving the rights to be greedy for the rich. The corporate media owner knows this and has desire to try to keep this charade going for them.
We have a smart lesbians that can counter point one on one with the best of them. I don't think the media owner of that station was counting on her smarts, but figure who would listen to a young female liberal lesbian?
I think they underestimated her, and she came in softly and smiley in the beginning, and not see the claws she has in her wits. I am so glad she got her foot in the door, and not turn out to be anything like slow liberal sloth like Alan Colmes.
She is the show and he acts defensive because she knows her stuff and he's a sleaze.
Why are all the neocon shills such peanut brains when it comes to defending their positions? joe needs to go off with tucker. They are both skirt wearing idiots. She did such a fine job of calling his shit...shit. It's what more of these sleezeballs need to have done to them.
They are ALL such pompous, know it all, smart asses. They like to shovel their bullshit, but they don't want to hear anyone that can debate the issues. joe is a pig.
Scarborough is stroking SOOO hard for the party, it's really embarrassing. Forget the "bottom line," Joe is pushing the story line with all his might.
And talk about rude, actively interrupting Maddow when it was her turn to speak.
Scarborough has no business being in the room when adults are trying to have a conversation.
chris the NEW NEW Liberal @ 73:
I've earned everything I've got, which is no doubt considerably more than you'll ever hope to have . With your apparent lack of education, I'm sure you're destined for a life of low income. But, like most ignorant wingnuts you'll vote against your own interests over and over, thinking some day you'll grab that brass ring and be rich, just like your heroes. You think she just walked in off the street on a day they happened to be hiring? Did you not know she has a PhD and was a Rhodes Scholar? Did you not know that she has her own successful radio show on Air America? No? Perhaps that's because she doesn't wear her degrees on her sleeve and insist on being called Dr. Maddow, like the pompous wingnuts,e.g. DR, Rice and DR Kissinger. She is confident enough being called Rachel and for good reason. The reason that she can run circles around Pig-Eyed Joe is because she's SMART and he's DUMB, she uses FACTS and he uses SPIN. As someone earlier said "Loud isn't necessarily smart."
I wish Rachel Maddow was straight. What a smart, totally awesome babe.
Yeah
I like Rachel. But if Joe had said something positive about Hillary Clinton she would
have refuted him just as boldly.
I can't listen to her right now.

Media ownership study ordered destroyed
Sept 14, 2006
'Every last piece' destroyed
Adam Candeub, now a law professor at Michigan State University, said senior managers at the agency ordered that "every last piece" of the report be destroyed. "The whole project was just stopped - end of discussion," he said. Candeub was a lawyer in the FCC's Media Bureau at the time the report was written and communicated frequently with its authors, he said.

A TOP GLOBAL CONSPIRATOR CONFIRMS THE GLOBAL CONSPIRACY
For the benefit of knee-jerk 'smart fellows' whose minds are befogged by 'slides' and who will be inclined to accuse the Editor of International Currency Review of being a 'conspiracy theorist', the following statement by one of the leading globalist strategists, Mr David Rockefeller, published in 2002*, will no doubt come as a shock:
'For more than a century ideological extremists [sic] at either end of the political spectrum have seized upon well-publicised incidents such as my encounter with Castro, to attack the Rockefeller family for the inordinate influence they claim we wield over American political and over economic institutions. Some even believe we are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as "internationalists" and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure ? one world, if you will. If that's the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it'.
As will be seen, David Rockefeller acknowledges that he is part of a secret cabal (synarchy) which works against the best interests of the United States. Why has he not yet been indicted, then, for conspiring against the United States under Section 371 of the United States Code, Title 18, 'Crimes and Criminal Procedure', which states that 'if two or more persons conspire either to commit any offense against the United States, or to defraud the United States, or any agency thereof in any manner or for any purpose, and one or more of such persons do any act to effect the object of the conspiracy, each shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both'?
THIS IS SCARBOROUGH'S BOSS.
nony,
About six months ago there was a campaign to get rid of Li'l Tucker Carlson. I don't know if you're aware of it, but Dan Abrams is the mid-level guy at MSNBC--the boss of Tweety, Pig-Eyed Joe, et al. Thousands of people sent a barrage of e-mails to Abrams lambasting Li'l Tucker. Six months later his show was canceled. I'm not so naive as to think it was the e-mails alone, but that and his rock bottom market share combined to do him in, I think. Death by a thousand cuts, and all. Anyway, sometimes when I get really discouraged with what the media have become, I see a small ray of hope.
Just sayin'

The difference between Joe And Rachel is the difference between ignorance and reason or lies and truth.
You don't refute "something positive" ,You refute a lie and you do that with facts. That's what Rachel does and very well.
For those sick individuals out there who require every word spoken of their candidate to be fawning praise all of the time with no criticism, you should try singing with your fingers in your ears. Nothing gets through and you can dream of ponies all day long.
You'll be totally safe.
Joe Scarborough is such a rude arrogant know-it-all. He constantly interrupts. He was practically rolling his eyes and talking down to RM. What a jerk. I was so glad she refused to let him bully her.
The entire panel was speaking in partisan terms on behalf of the apparent parties.
This entire political game is a ruse, a total charade designed specifically to divide (and conquer) the people.
The ONLY prospects allowed to elevate through the system are those blessed by Rockefeller's CFR who have effectively sold their souls to the global corporate cause. You don't have ANY choice about electing individuals of high moral character whose interests are aligned with the people. They are destroyed by the Rockefeller-controlled media:
When Lieberman lost in the primary to Lamont, it wasn't 36 hours later that Rove launched the False - False Flag Terror Threat in London.
During the next 24 hour news cycle while the headlines falsely screamed:
"TERROR IN THE SKIES"
The media quietly released two Israel-related stories under the radar ...
The first was that a US Submariner named Ariel Joseph Weinmann had been arrested 6 MONTHS EARLIER for Espionage on behalf of "a foreign country."
12 hours later, the story broke that the Two AIPAC Officials charged with Espionage in the Franklin/AIPAC spy scandal were still going to face trial, despite their attorney's best efforts to have the case thrown out.
These three matters, Lamont's victory over AIPAC's Lieberman, the revelation of yet another Israeli spy caught passing naval secrets to Israel, and the AIPAC Spy trial moving forward ALL hit the news at the same time - and were ALL quickly buried by a fully-complicity "news" media.
If you think these events are unrelated - in light of the subsequent admission that the entire scare was a hoax - you've already got the government you deserve.
Lieberman = AIPAC.
AIPAC = Espionage, Blackmail and Democracy Lost.

The United States has given Israel over 90 billion dollars in foreign aid. In 2003, Israel received $53.4 Million dollars a day from the traitors in Congress. That’s a very solid return on the AIPAC contributions that Israel pays out to U.S. Congressmen.
ISRAEL RECEIVED up to $75 billion as emergency aid, directly connected to the war on Iraq. This amounts to 2500% increase in aid to support Israel in a war that they have claimed they are not involved in. Who is benefiting from the war on Iraq?

Police to return to parks in Levy case
Experts: Condit damaged own reputation
July 22, 2001 Posted: 6:07 PM EDT (2207 GMT)
Sen. Joseph Lieberman, D-Connecticut, said it wouldn't be productive to focus on Condit's conduct. In 1998, Lieberman was the first prominent Democrat to criticize Clinton for his affair with Monica Lewinsky.
Lieberman said the two matters are different and he declined to say whether Condit should resign, as two Republican lawmakers have said.
"The Chandra Levy case is a missing persons case. And I think we all ought to let the law-enforcement authorities focus on finding Chandra Levy and relieving the terrible trauma and nightmare that her family and friends have gone through," Lieberman told Fox News Sunday. "And when that is over, politicians can begin to speak out."
Saturday, a spokeswoman for Vice President Dick Cheney, said Cheney met with Condit around the same time Levy was logging off her computer in her apartment May 1.
Juleanna Glover Weiss said the meeting happened between 12:30 p.m. and 12:50 p.m. in Cheney's office in the House of Representatives. The meeting was "at Condit's request," she said, and included Cheney and some of Cheney's staff discussing the California energy crisis.

Report: US sailor spied for Israel
David Keyes, THE JERUSALEM POST
Aug. 9, 2006
A US Navy sailor, Ariel J. Weinmann, is suspected of spying for Israel and has been held in prison for four months, according to an article published Monday in the Saudi daily Al-Watan. It reported that Weinmann is being held at a military base in Virginia on suspicion of espionage and desertion.
According to the navy, Weinmann was apprehended on March 26 "after it was learned that he had been listed as a deserter by his command." Though initial information released by the navy makes no mention of it, Al-Watan reported that he was returning from an undisclosed "foreign country." American sources close to the Defense Department told Al-Watan that Israel was the country in question.

http://www.politicstv.com/blog/?p=919
And you think it happened by accident, right?
This new show by MSNBC is horrible. Our country is in this shape because we spend too much time on "politics" and not enough on discussing actual issues in detail. The public isn't this dumb on its own, it's dumbed down by shows like this one. This maverick nonsense is great proof of that. Most people don't even want to discuss McCain's views in detail because everything is accepted as fact. And before we realize it, it'll be too late and he'll be president. It's all about repeating the same old maverick, war hero, straight talk myths. Meadow is completely right, but this is a show where you get 30 seconds turns. The format doesn't allow for any intelligent discussion. I think she's great on AirAmerica, but this show is awful. Then again, we all need to pay our bills, and she gets much exposure on MSNBC nowadays. On top of that, this idiot Scarborough gets to interrupt people whenever he wants. Gregory doesn't do anything about it because this is exactly what he wants because it is a "race" to the white house. Did Obama have a gaffe today? Did Hillary lie? Did McCain have another gaffe? (Oh, he's old, he's having one of his moments, because he's a war hero and a maverick, let's go back to Obama and Hillary!!) What about Rev. Wright? Bosnia? If I hear the term liberal media one more time, I'll puke.
I don't think the long Democratic primary is as hurtful as most people think. Once it's done, democrats have to be super aggressive in their portrayal of McCain. Bring Bush into the discussion as much as possible, point out his 100 year war comment, bomb bomb Iran, his tax cut policies, the myth that the surge is working, his lack of economic policies, his constant flip flops, his age, etc. This maverick nonsense has to die, and it can if the Democrats do the right thing. But as usual, I have a feeling they'll fuck it up.
Poor Scarborough and Chris Matthews. Still living in that world before the internet when a person had to take their word on issues because they were 'professionals'. Now it's nothing but sputtering indignantly as they're constantly called out on their bullshit with verifiable facts.
It's almost sad to watch these poor, dumb creatures lumber off into obscurity as evolution marches on....
Fine example of The Scar employing the Hannity technique when it comes to debate--talk loud and long, and don't come up for air.
WereBear @ 39:
OMG! LOL! I thought I was the only one that noticed that! HILARIOUS!
Joe Scarborough -- the worst thing about MSNBC. He also got his ass handed to him a few weeks back on Real Time with Bill Maher.
What is it about the Republican mentality(?) that it has to have blowhards (Scarborough, Carlson, Hannity, Coulter, O'Reilly, Limbaugh, et al) always on hand to say what they want to hear, irregardless of any facts? Boy, don't they get pissed then an intelligent person, like Maddow, doesn't sit around and accept their crap?
Jonesy @ 92:
Hm, you seem to be arguing against yourself. Joe was saying that McCain is a straight shootin maverick. Rachel pointed out that he is not as evidenced by his flip-flopping, or how "he has tried to move to the right to get conservative votes..."
See?
Savanation @ 121:
regardless.
Jonesy @ 92:
Maddows wasn't framing McCain as conservative, right-wing or otherwise, but rather as a panderer. And that is based on facts, which she related.
The Republican meme is that "money is the ONLY appropriate measure of social worth." As the environment craps out, the rich wallow in their pig troughs and the poor are left with the empty bag, that meme is getting more and more ragged and the dirtbags are forced to scream it repeatedly, ever louder and more often, from idiots like Limbaugh, O'Reilly, and the Scab. What will be left when the meme finally dies?
Joe @ #6 says that "fear is the little death" No Joe, an orgasm is "the little death"Get your head out of your rectum!
Rachael Maddow A graduate of Castro Valley High School in Castro Valley, California, Maddow later obtained a degree in public policy from Stanford University in 1994. She then received a Rhodes Scholarship in 1995 and used it to obtain a doctorate in politics from Lincoln College, Oxford University. She was the first openly gay person to be awarded a Rhodes Scholarship.
Joe Scarborough Born in Atlanta, Georgia, he received his bachelor's degree from the University of Alabama in 1985 and his law degree from the University of Florida in 1990.
Wow, and Joe is smarter and knows more about the Republican party than Rachel? Last time I checked the University of Alabama is far from ivy league, heck I went to the University of Tennessee and we looked down our noses at UA. You go Joe, stay where you are and we'll bring the bar to you.
Juvenile Joe and Crackpot Chris are two more examples of ex blow job MSNBC commentators still trying to hang on to their 'glory'. Dumbdown Dan, Pat Bumpkin, and Smucker Carlson are three more. Whole mess of 'em over at Rupert's place btw. Keith and Rachel are fresh....very smart....and (due to wanting to pay their bills) slow to out and out slam the idiots....but Juvee Joe got his with Rachel...and she has done the same to Pat Bumpkin while Keith has twisted the knife slowly and in the shadows.
Wanna guess that Rachel will never see Morning Joe....unless Joe is off and she is the guest host? If she does guest host that 3 hr slugfest it would be a great start to my day....betcha the Geister would try to fawn over her like he has done to Smucker and Joe....any port in the storm huh Willie boy????
Rachel Maddow is so good...so smart...MSNBC is really lucky to have her...she's the smartest person I've seen on MSNBC even smarter than Olberman or Brian Williams...where did she go to school, what is her background???
As for Scarborough...this guy sounds like my ignorant cousin flip flopping with the latest sound bite, he says one thing one minute and says the opposite the next and thinks he's consistant..what a loser how does MSNBC keep him on??? I guess because he appeals to the loser class of America the one's that can't think for themselves...he's so not real, so fake...no character...the quintessential ass kisser boot licker type...at least he makes conservatives look like the losers they really are! That in itself could be worth enduring him day after day on morning shmoe.
Just saw on 127 steve answered my question thanks...that explains everything Stanford Rhodes...she could be dangerous to MSNBC they're going to lose a lot of viewers who don't want to know the truth, who prefer the feel good lies...MSNBC may have trouble keeping her on!!!
Rachel Maddow should have her own TV show. I'd watch. But I can't imagine why people watch the crappy conservative Republican propaganda on the cable news channels. Except for clips here, I haven't looked at CNN or MSNBC in years and I'm much better off for it. Republicans I know have become squawking parrots, repeating what they hear from the cable news blowhards, too lazy to form their own political opinions. Turn the channel. Say no to cable news propaganda.

I just watch Scarborough this morning interview Matthews about Obama's College interview. Here comes Scarborough bringing up the Wright issue over and over again. Some one needs to tell him to get over it. What should Obama do, behead the man? Will that change things. No. Joe would never have a one on one with Maddow on his show. He likes wimps like Mika and Willie. They are afraid to really stand up to him. All Mika does is say "oh Joe" and "stop that Joe". I can't stand that arrogant ahole.
She didn't go far enough. while he was spewing his fantasyland BS, she needed to twll him tht he is full of it as she split her sides laughing at him.
Joe is such a dishonest douchebag, and his propagandizing is taking on a tone of desparation.
JeffS @ 116:

woopee @ 134:
Whenever he brings up something from someones past...I would LOVE to see someone ask him about the dead woman that was was found in his office....
It's just amazing that Maddow and other fact givers don't keep saying "You're interrupting, Joe [Kris]. Don't you want to hear another view?" Keep saying it again and again, because we can't hear them anyway, and maybe the point will be made--- that the only way to block civil discourse is drown out the opposition. [Fascist technique] Also, we should adopt a continuous refocusing strategy that says: "Facts, please."/ "What are your facts, Joe." / "We'll check your "facts" Joe, do stand by them?"/and "Can you hear the facts or are they too painful?"
liberalHUSSEINmoderation @ 132:
Actually it was a Ford. ;>)
Pat J @ 43:
I totally agree with this! What a great idea. I would definitely watch.
Maddow a fact giver? Maddow the unabashed Obama cheerleader? A voice of reason? The Obama shill has no creds. Neither does Scarborough so she should feel right at home.
Never mind what Scarborough is saying about McCain. He called Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama the "most progressive people in the Democratic Party." Joe, lay off the drugs.
Jimmy @ 5:
A very old piece of shit................ Ford.
kenoshaMarge @ 141:
Whatever you may think of her, she was on point in this conversation.
Now this is a true "left/right" panel that every network should have. Most panels are either "rabid right/milquetoast" like Hanity & Colmes or "rabid right/right-of-center".
Joe practices the kind of "journalism" that really should get him fired. There can be no doubt that the media is in the can for McBush. I just hope that people heard what Rachel was saying despite the fact that the whole panel was trying to shout her down.
tubino @ 58:
Don't confuse him. Reality makes his head hurt.
It's pretty obvious now that this campaign isn't between Obama and McCain. It's between Obama, The Mainstream Media and McCain.
"Sometimes I don't know who I'm running against"
Indeed, Sen. Obama, indeed.
Poor beady eyed, living dead girl, snarky Joe. He can't get no love in this house. Hey you haters, don't you know, he used to be a congressman!
Right now, he probably has a hard time convincing most folks of this fact.
His whole show is full of ass hats. Tucker's main salad tosser, Bad Hair Willie is Joe's crutch. Mika has become an enabler. She sounded drunk today (4/3), slurring words with regularity. And Joe? What can you say? He's just an older, chubbier version of Tucker.
