60 Minutes: Doug Feith once again earns his nickname

(click image to see full 12:00 report)

As John noted the other day, Douglas Feith is one of the most deceitful war architects, a difficult distinction to attain considering the company. On "60 Minutes" this Sunday, Feith was confronted by Steve Kroft with all the "miscalculations" he made as one of the primary enablers of the administration's disastrous march to war.

** For those of you who may have forgotten, General Tommy Franks is on record calling Feith "the stupidest f*cking guy on the planet." **

icon Download | play icon Download | play

It's quite remarkable that Donald Rumsfeld of all people -- in a memo Feith calls "the Parade of Horribles" -- predicted exactly what the "downsides" to war would be. Even more remarkable is that it seems he took every step necessary to fulfill his own doomsday prophesies. Literally every single one of these has come to fruition.

Kroft summarizes some of them:

* the possibility that the U.S. could become so absorbed with its Iraq effort that it would pay inadequate attention to other serious problems;

* that war could cause more harm and entail greater costs than expected;

* that it would not go on for two to four years, but eight to 10 years;

* that terrorist networks could improve their recruiting and fundraising as a result of the U.S. being depicted as anti-Muslim;

* that Iraq could experience ethnic strife among Kurds, Sunnis and Shia;

* the war could damage America’s relationship with allies and its reputation in the world community.

Feith's response?:

"We certainly understood that these are the things that might happen. That's why we wrote them down.

Well, at least you wrote them down.

Feith!

** For those of you who may have forgotten, General Tommy Franks is on record calling Feith “the stupidest f*cking guy on the planet.” **

Did Tommy Franks forget about Bush?

I watched last night as Steve Kroft handed Feith's ass to him. It was fun to watch as Feith stammered and fell all over himself trying to evade the questions.

.

Hitler had similar rational to invading Poland, France, etc...

"They might strike us first."

.

How is it these neocons can get by with killing countless innocent people, breaking our military, busting our budget and running our nation into the ground? Why is Feith is teaching at Georgetown instead of sitting in a prison cell?

Was I the only one expecting Feith's response to be "So?"

"** For those of you who may have forgotten, General Tommy Franks is on record calling Feith “the stupidest f*cking guy on the planet.” **"

Priceless. No additions necessary. It said it all LOL!

I laughed my ass off when he said it. Did the Chimperor concur with the opinion of his military leader on the ground?

That line could have been plucked right out of a first draft for Doctor Strangelove.

pedophiles, rapists, war profiteers and war criminals never learn: you are not going to rehab or salvage your reputation by going on 60mins, generally your raping, pedophiling and/or war criminal ways are laid bare for all to see.

Man, I wish I saw this instead of going to sleep. I love watching chickenhawks get barbequed.

If you have an iPod you can podcast it for FREE! I started listening to it this morning and had to stop, but I'll finish listening to it this afternoon.

We understand that we could have avoided shitastrophy but it was brainstorming time and everybody had their thinking caps on.

I watch amoral psychopaths like Doug Feith and I really am in complete amazement over the level of cognitive dissonance, lack of common sense and "removed from reality" behavior of people like him.

This man has the President's ear? My gawwd...he should be under heavy medication and kept away from stairs and sharp objects.

And yet, those 28%ers (those that would actually watch that liberal show) would still ignore the truth and keep supporting their authority figure.

Willfully ignorant.

Yeah, you're right about the Strangelove resemblance.
There are so many priceless quotes out there (e.g. Rove's "I don't work for you, I work for the American people" quote)

.

QUESTION:

If America went to war to end the illegal wars of aggression against the same rational, "They might attack first," then why is Feith still free to walk the streets of America.
We didn't know the atrocities of WWII until it's end was drawing closed and then successfully prosecuted a GOVERNMENT that used such similar hubris to invade and occupy other European Nations. How is America behaving as the moral victor in the 21st Century in the Middle East when the American Government uses the same rational and tactics the Nazi party did?

Is there a way to email this asshole? I so wish I could meet him in a restaurant, just to dump a cocktail in his suit coat pocket.

Kroft describes this as the 'CYA' memo.

CYA as in 'Cover Your Ass'.

They knew all of this long before.

Here is Dick Cheney in 1994 telling why they didn't go to Baghdad in '91.

He says it would have been a quagmire and quite clearly understood the implications, the same ones that have come to fruition today.

He also asks the rhetorical question:

'How many additional dead Americans was Saddam worth, our judgement was not very many and I think we got it right.'

My question is when did they develop amnesia.

My answer is when George Bush won stole the election in 2000.

Does Feith think this interview will somehow absolve him? Watching Bush's flunkies makes me realize how stupid we were to elect Bush in the first place. I feel like Alice in Wonderland. It seems surreal doesn't it?

Wow, just look at all those books surrounding Mr. Feith in his office. Surely he must be deeply serious and scholarly!

this is a metaphysical impossibility, as america, in going "to war to end the illegal wars of aggression", would have to attack itself.

This warcriminal is so full of it

Feith: "One of the things that is reflected in this memo is Secretary Rumsfelds deeply held view its foolish to try to predict the future."

And still Rumsfeld scoffed at experts saying the war could be much more costly, require hundreds of thousands of troops for postwar occupation etc etc. And when the insurgency began Rumsfeld still didnt have a clue what was happening. "Dont believe the media!" "Stuff happens!" "People are free!" "They are just deadenders!"

But hey as long as you wrote all that stuff down on a piece of paper..

*Yawn* What we need to know is what has Obama's former minister been up to?

Amazing that every one of the "downsides" has happened, almost like they WANTED them to happen so we could have an endless war, create a military government, and take away all freedoms and civil liberties. BRILLIANT!!

No. He has a new book he's trying to sell. Just like Tenet before him. He thinks this will sell books. Of course, he's too stupid to read the market very well. Tenet sold his books by describing how he secretly thought everyone else was nuts. Either Feith doesn't get that, or he just doesn't have the capacity to be anything other than a sycophantic flat-earther.

His eyes are so close together that he looks like a penis.

Oh Jesus H. Christ:

"We were lead to believe One of the reasons for going to war was an eminent attack against us with WMD's was about to happen."

I watched this and got so made I threw something at the TV. BTW, Gore and Kerry were elected - Bushed cheated and lied to get his job.

Good reporting by CBS...

We also remember Bush in a recess appointment replaced Feith in the No. 3 position in the Pentagon with Eric S. Edelman
--> Bypassing U.S. Senate," , August 9, 2005.

Edelman was Ambassador to the Republic of Turkey from July 2003 to June 2005.
From February 2001 to June 2003, he was Principal Deputy Assistant to Cheney for National Security Affairs

Just why would Bush bypass the Senate with a recess appointment?

Maybe CBS can followup on this January 27, 2008 story... that was not reported in the US MSM....

I think what changed the equation was the concept of Peak Oil. When the oil industry ( Cheney for example) begin seeing the writing on the wall in the 90´s they realized the need to place the US Army physically on top of the oil. The costs all of a sudden seemed worth it. The situation on the ground and politically just got a whole lot worse than they thought beforehand. I do think they still believe it is worth it. Unfortunately I think the democrats also realize the need to control the mid eastern oil. Therefore I think they will have a hard time to disengage.

Amongst the questions Kroft asked of feith, one was missing, that being "are you really as dumb as your statements make you out to be, or is this some kind of Rovian trick?"

The media in this case did pretty good, but it seems this should have been taken to the next level.

When asked about the list of predicted disaster scenarios, and how they have virtually all come to pass- he answered
"Thats why we wrote them down."

No effort was made to deal or even plan to deal with these things- they wrote them down to COVER THEIR ASSES.

Right after his proud mention of having enumerated the "parade of horribles" if we were to invade, Feith told Kroft he could have listed the "what-if's" if we didn't. It's a little late now, but maybe if he had, a wise person could have weighed one alternative against another. From his remark it's apparent no one was smart enough either to ask or offer! When U.S. Grant relieved General Rosecrans within Chatanooga in 1863, Rosecrans offered up his best advice to Grant about how best to relieve the besieged Union army. Grant was later asked about the caliber of the advice. He replied it was excellent, but was at loss to explain why Rosecrans had failed to implement the suggested plan of action himself.

Priceless. No additions necessary. It said it all LOL!

I laughed my ass off when he said it. Did the Chimperor concur with the opinion of his military leader on the ground?

The only problem about this being funny is this has been the type of a..holes Bush has replaced our military leaders , government agencies , Supreme court , Attorney General and others major position throughtout our government with.

Sailor Art Thomas, Jr. @ 99:

So, does Georgetown think of this idiot as a selling point for such a "prestigious" institution?

Why not, if Stanford can think of John Yoo as a worthy mentor for future lawyers?

Yoo teaches at UC Berkeley . . . strange but true.

The "parade of horribles" was just wonderful. I mean, it was so obvious that they couldn't help but write it down, but they were too frigging stupid to see that these were predictions, not remote possiblities. They should all be in prison as war criminals.

Max-Hussein-1 @ 4:

.

Hitler had similar rational to invading Poland, France, etc...

"They might strike us first."

.

As did Stalin when he invaded Finland in 1939 (the so-called Winter War).

In the mid 199s, a group of 25 mostly Jewish powerful neoconservative warmongers , Douglas Feith included, realised they needed an impetus to remove Saddam as an important Israeli objective and 5 hours after 9/11 this impetus was realised. Not a single one of these treasonous scum has been tried for the war crimes they committed. Apart from the loss of life and limb they have realised to make Israel safe, but American less safe, they have precipitated an economic recession because of trillions in deficits and one day if an economic collapse occurs, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a monumental explosive backlash of anti-Semitism when people tie the two together.

Hang his sorry ass from a lamp-post - after he has been charged with war crimes, tried and sentenced, of course.

And bring along all of his co-war criminals who now inhabit the White House, or inhabited it during the run-up to the Anti-Muslim Crusade.

Very Very Late for 60 minutes to come out with the truth. Just trying to look good for the new administration in 2009. I'd like Mr. Filth to explain--his dual citizenship with Israel.

Yet another founder of the PNAC. How long do these war criminals get to walk free much less get interviewed and be allowed to continue to lie. This country has sank so low I dont think we can recover.

I was just reading how Michelle Bachmann hates how we are "losing our country" to Hispanic immigrants because they "refuse to learn our language".

I wonder why you never hear these same right-wingers complaining about our government policy being hijacked by Israel. Why is "losing our country" to Israel any better? Why is it that neo-cons like Doug Feith can work as both advisors to Israel at the same time they are deciding US foreign policy? Why won't anybody talk about the fact that Feith is a member of the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs (part of the Israeli lobby) while also being a member of George Bush's foreign policy team?

The neo-cons direct connections to the Israeli government are not a conspiracy theory. They are fact.

And no, I do not hate Jewish people in any way. I just do not want our foreign policy dictated by ANY foreign government, whether it's England or Israel.

This guy belongs in jail just like the rest of them. You lie us into war you go to jail.

Here's one thing that shocked me -- Feith's characterization of the insurgency as the Hussein regime continuing to exert its influence from the grave.

Could there be a more self-serving description of the insurgency??

Feith's grandparents were killed by Hitler in the Holocaust and his father, a Holocaust survivor was a memeber in a zionist youth group here after immigrating here from Poland following the Holocaust. Still do not think Zionists are running the country? Don't believe me? Wikipedia it. I am not an anti semite but I do believe that the Holocaust was so horrendous that it has created first and second generation survivors that suffer from post traumatic stress disorder and cannot be trusted to be rational. They are simply incapable of not being extremist. One can understand why;the Holocaust was so beyond words terrible. When Noam Chomsky defended the right to write a book calling into question that the Holocaust ever happened, he met such vociferous criticism from the Jewish community that he concluded that some Jews were incapable of looking at certain things rationally. Chomsky himself is a Jew. He said that to call into question the existence of the Holocaust is to lose one's humanity. He, however, understood the importance of Freedom of speech. He said that it is of poor service to the memory of the victims of the Holocaust to embrace one of the central doctrines of their murderers. He was of course talking about the Nazi control of the press, book burning etc. One could use this same statement to criticise the zionist neocons. But instead of the doctrine of Press Control it would be Unilateral War during which many civilians are killed and displaced. A simple childhood rule here applies, two wrongs do not make a right. Of course, Zionists may rationalize their actions by calling into question the very humanity of anyone but Jews.

...and This person is Professor at Georgetown Uni ?

oh!! what a Democracy !!

Feith is despicable and he should be held accountable for his crimes. However, the anti-Semitic tenor of some of the comments on this site is disgusting.

You know who had more brain activity than this asshole?

Terry Schaivo.

She still does.

Rhl @ 126:

See, this is exactly why nobody can talk about the Israeli lobby's influence on Bush's foreign policy. You are instantly labelled "anti-semitic" and silenced.

Even fellow Jews like Senator Carl Levin question Feith's loyalty to the USA. During one White House meeting, Condi Rice reportedly listened to a speech from Doug Feith, then replied saying, "Thanks Doug, but when we want the Israeli position we'll invite the ambassador."

This is not about anti-Semitism. It's about a small group of right-wing radicals who work directly for the Israeli government deciding US foreign policy. This is about a foreign country dictating our foreign policies.

Ruthless People @ 2:

** For those of you who may have forgotten, General Tommy Franks is on record calling Feith “the stupidest f*cking guy on the planet.” **

Did Tommy Franks forget about Bush?

That should, at least in part, disprove the notion that Bush is a boob, etc. I, like many others, am sick of hearing how Bush is an idiot, as if his mangling the spoken word somehow should allow him to escape accountability for his actions, especially when seated in the dock.

The Fickle Finger of Blame: It always points elsewhere.

So in the end, "Doug", with all the death, "Doug", do you still feel you were right?

Neo-cons are some the most stupidest people on the planet.

All those books behind him were used to justify his idiot views. Feith didn't use them to understand reality on the ground.

How do these people ever get high level jobs in the first place? Then, they go hide out in prestigious universities, that give them some sort of legitimacy for crying out loud. Feith teaches at Georgetown and Yoo teaches at UC Berkley. These bozos don't deserve to set foot in my local community college. They deserve to be in jail, and then kicked back to their neo-con rat holes at the AEI.

The whole bush administration deserves life without parole!

Oh what an idiot, that guy is a fucking idiot.

P.D. @ 35:

How is it these guys feel free to do and say what they want. Don't they feel any shame for the choas and death they have caused? These neo-cons have no sympathy. Why aren't we, the American people, demanding the resignation of Bush and his enablers? The Congress is spineless.

It amazes me how Cheney, Rumsfield, and Bush haven't been tried for treason and war crimes. It really amazes me how the public has been so abused and lied to and it puts up with three killers.

It isn't often you get to see a live, breathing, walking, talking asshole.

Behold Doug Feith. Disgusting piece of shit.

If anyone should be sitting in the middle of the street [Deleted. david, while I, personally, don't disagree with you, that's not the kind of thing that we advocate at the site. Site Monitor] it should be Feith.

to time@124 Their are a number of facts and numbers about hohocaust that seem to point out that it may have been exaggerated, and indeed some things just made up(skin lampshades, people soap) feith is one jew that belongs in prison for war crimes and treason! His mom should have washed his mouth out with soap.

6 years and 4000+ American casualties later the msm begins to ask these questions?

Rhl @ 126:

Rhi

Can you tell us exactly which comments you're talking about and explain why you see them as anti-semitic?

To quote..someone:

Any man who'd go two ranches away to kill the owner, destroy the buildings and seize the livestock because he's scared of a rumor sayin they'd just got a rifle ain't too smart and don't sit very tall in the saddle.

That fits Feith, neocons in general and Bush to a friggin T.

This guy is further proof that, there is a thin line between genius and insanity. He keeps subjecting himself to the media, (other than that branch of the Republican Party called Faux "News.") and he keeps saying the same things. He probably a smart guy, with no common sense. Otherwise, why would he keep telling the same lies publicly. He looks so stupid, each and every time.

What a crock of dung Feith is.

What he is saying is :

We knew what would happen
but it didn't matter
it was worth it
control of the oil
whatever it takes

Rhl @ 126:

Israel and Judaism have yet to reconcile.

Since I don't believe anything these assholes in the Bush administration have to say, I really doubt that this memo was written before March 2003. Probably more like last week. In the criminal Bush administration, it's CYA time, 24/7, with all the Republican criminals trying to lay blame for all their crimes on anyone but themselves, and of course, George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, their crime bosses. Republican and Mafia went so well together back during the Nixon years that today's Republicans decided to revive Republican Mafia for the new century, resorting to the same tricks as Tricky Dick, but on criminal steroids. Impeach them all. Jail them all.

He teaches at Georgetown? God that's unfair. I teach at a so-so university, and I suspect I have a much larger teaching load than he does. I predicted most everything that's happened in Iraq, and it's not even my field (I'm a Latin Americanist). What did I get wrong? Only that it turned out even worse than I expected. Do I get the cushy job at a comfy research university? Um, no. Do any of us who got it right get rewarded? Now there's a good question -- if you knew it was going to be a disaster, where should you have invested your money in say, Feb. of '03? Besides euros......

Feith is a university professor? Does he screen his students to make sure they are as stupid as he is? Otherwise, they might have a problem with his credibility.

What was that thing he was talking through? Was that his mouth or some other orifice?

If people like him and others, are running things.

We are not living in a Democracy anymore.

Not uncommon these days, actually.

They might build a statue of Feith...in Israel. A true patriot just like Paul Wolfowitz and Richard Perle. Why waste precious Israeli lives and money when you can have stupid Goyim to eliminate your enemies?
