C&L's Late Nite Music Club with Psychedelic Furs
The Psychedelic Furs debut album came out in 1980 and was a smash in Europe but it wasn't until their third album, Forever Now (1982) that they made a breakthrough in the U.S. "Love My Way" was the single but I always played "President Gas" on my radio show. When Richard Butler write it, he couldn't possibly have known about what was going to happen... could he?

Todd Rundgren produced, no?
I still love it my way!
"She Is Mine" is their best song. Both times I saw them live, the crowd was shouting for it but they never played it. That was around the time that Butler went a little crazy, though.
I think it was 81 or 82 when I saw them. They played in a Ball room, at NIU. It was a good show, I think it was supporting Talk Talk Talk. I agree about "She is Mine" it's their best one, "Imitation of Christ" rocks me too.
no furs at skippy, sorry, but i noticed tonite how many bands (9) playing at the coachella rock festival this weekend have been featured on skippy's late nite music club.
Sure he could've known, he had Reagan. But to think of it Reagan was awful, but Bush, is a nightmare. I really like the Furs and my favorite records are the debut record and Forever Now.
Le Roi Est Mort @ 1:
Yes.
Some of my favorite songs are Sister Europe, Imitation of Christ, No Easy Street, President Gas, Highwire Days.
I loved that LP. Yes, I owned the LP! And yes, President Gas was one of the better songs. It is still going through my head during this election cycle.

Yes Howie. You *ABOVE* all, should know that musicians have "vision". :-)
BTW: I heard you on Bob's (Peter B(ardens)'s) podcast from like I guess it was Monday? It was an excellent interview, and I thouroughly enjoyed learning that you have Amato's accent. :-)
LG, "hello" in return of your message ...

I always rhought that Psychedelic Furs was a bad name. Just doesn't ring true, imo.
Echo & The Bunnymen
The Cutter
A.W.A.T.S. is phenomenal. Nice touch.
Stan "Bitter Hussein" Rosenthal @ 16:

I think both aren't the best names for bands, quite goofy actually, but I love the music just the same.
Forever Now one of the top 3 pop records of the 80's.
speaking of talk talk, the greatest departure from pop in the 80's. Spirt of Eden and Laughing Stock(though I dont think that came out in the 80's)
Great music selection. Psych Furs should really have been much bigger here than they were. There was some great stuff back in the '80's - those were the days...
Never heard this one, Howie... nice =)
I always loved this song, it was a little more flash than substance then but it sure does pin the tail on the asshats these days!
"Into you like a train" up to "Until she comes". Most underrated
band of the 80's and still rockin"!!
Good choice!
When I first met my husband, he was unfamiliar with the Furs.
And didn't like their name either.
But I always liked them and this song.
During the '96 election, he said, "Every time I hear that song, I think of Bob Dole."
IMO, I love the name, and they were my favorite 80's band hands-down. Word is when the band first started up, they went through a number of different names, because they had a better chance of getting a repeat gig at a club if they changed the name.
Anyone hear Richard's solo CD? I just adore the lyrics of "Sentimental Airlines", which perfectly radiates the cd's overall despondent tone, and Richard sings it with the kind of perfect, crying desperation that makes you wonder if he keeps the suicide hotline on speed-dial. ("That last straw/broke my back/we're beaten and bullied till we crack/I give in/Let's pretend that we're all/Angels in the end.")
I hope his health stays good for years to come. As bad as the world is, I think this would be a much darker world without him. Somehow, he makes melancholy into something reassuring.
President Gas is President Gas again.
Wow. That takes me back.
"it's a real cowboy set..."
