Obama confronted Lieberman over Muslim smears

Last week we told you about Senator Obama's "slightly intimidating" confrontation with Joe Lieberman on the Senate floor. Well, now we have video of Barack Obama literally leading Lieberman aside by the hand, and Newsweek provides confirmation of exactly what the two talked about about.

In a brief but animated Senate floor confrontation last week, according to a campaign aide who asked for anonymity when talking about private discussions, Obama told Lieberman he was surprised by Lieberman's personal attacks and his half-hearted denials of the false rumors that Obama is a Muslim. (The aide says Lieberman was "strangely muted" during the exchange; a Lieberman spokesman says the chat was "private and friendly.") McCain spokeswoman Jill Hazelbaker says Lieberman "played a key role in reaching out to the Jewish community in the primary … and you can expect that will continue."
Hopefully this little "chat" persuaded Lieberman to stop issuing those "half-hearted denials." If HolyJoe wants to support McCain, that's his prerogative. But that surely doesn't give him license to help passively spread a wholly unfounded rumor.

This is why I like Obama. He doesn't shy away from a face to face confrontation to tell you exactly what is on his mind. In fact, I bet Lieberman did more than just act "strangly muted" in response. He probably wet his pants when Obama got in his face. Cowardly men like Lieberman tend to do that when confronted. They have no spine for it so they usually have someone else do it for them. If they do have a comment you can be sure that it is said far, far away from you and never to your face.
The sad thing is the media is supposed to be the institution in the country that sets the record straight on false rumors etc that surface from time to time. Yet they seem to be doing the bidding for the republicans, and oil and corporate interests, instead of the interests of the citizens. Luckily the blogs are here, but we are going to have to deal with this propaganda crap if we are going to live under a more truthful and honest form of governance.
Fox News is the worst. But CNN and MSNBC aren't doing the job either. Holding the media accountable has to be a priority in the years to come.

WHY did Lieberman critisize Obamas AIPAC speech ? did he not grovel to enough ? was it because he didn't promise to send MORE US soldiers to there death to protect Israel ?

To follow up on CT voters, it’s disgusting that 40% would STILL vote for Lieberman. Our country is seriously messed up. Even knowing what we know. Granted, this was Sept of 2007. I would hope that it would be 25% now…the same that continue to support Bush.

It's a good one to remember because if you have a reputation for doing that, people will listen to you without fearing temper involvement. It's a constant struggle but it pays off if you can do it.

McCain seems paranoid when it comes to the press. Remember the lady on the plane who asked him if he has talked with Kerry back in 2004. McCain got all defensive and fast. Hopefully there in one reporter dedicated enough to his or her profession to do that.

For some reason, Obama bailed out on the media to secretly fly to Northern Virginia for an exclusive meeting.

Certainly Obama's groveling at the feet of AIPAC should dispel any notion that he carries any brief for the plight of Palestinians or cares in the slightest about the impression 1 billion Muslims have of the country he hopes to soon lead.
Like McCain and HRC, Obama appears more than willing to murder as many thousands or millions of Muslims (and Jews and Christians unfortunate enough to live in Iran, Syria or Lebanon) as it takes to insure the "security" of the Zionist crusader state.

I'm afraid that if Obama would show the slightest compassion for the plight of Palestinians or allows himself the slightest notion that Israel should reconsider the borders of 1967 (which almost everyone in the Middle East would happily accept, except Israel of course) this would amount to political suicide in the USA. Obama: Definitely "closed", the crossed arms are the giveaway. In a highly protective mode, which is understandable being next to those two doocies. The leaning forward shows no fear and high confidence.
