Colbert: Is Barack Obama An "Elitist"?

Barack Obama just isn't an "average Joe" like Colbert and David Brooks. That's why Stephen digs up this old-school educational film to illustrate his point perfectly.

"Is Barack Obama an 'elitist'? Well, he does want to join a club with only 43 members!"

to liberals/progressives/lefties: an elitist is someone who uses their power, money and influence to skew policies to their favor, who are able to buy their way thru life and who have enough money to be above the law.

to the GOP: an elitist is one who exposes the aforementioned.

Black is white. Up is down.

A black guy from Chicago is an elitist. Sheesh.

Thanks, Colbert. We need to clone you.

uh, only 42. 22 and 24 are the same

Those comments that Hillary made didn't help anything.

I like the inclusion of the guy who played big brother in the training film.

"Only an elitist would spell elitist correctly."

This may unintentionally point out the entire Republican philosophy.

Funny. You are rolling in dough and affect a folksy lazy manner of speaking, your a man/woman of the people.
You come from a modest, less-advantaged background, strive for excellence, work to reflect integrity that in your manner and appearance, and you can't be trusted.

It's like Paris Hilton complaining about Grace Kelly, if they were contemporaries.

That 'Elitist Menace' video was fantastic! The amount of effort and ingenuity that must have been put into the video is astounding. That's cable award winning right there.

Also: I had no idea Hillary Clinton said shit that inane. Who's calling who what?
She probably thought this out while swimming in her money vault ala Scrooge McDuck.

George W Bush - The Elite My Base

So, Barack is an elitist eh?
How can this be when George W. Bush claims the elite are are his base.
Judging by his audiences response they appear to agree with W. that they are the elitists.

I'm an elitist, and I want the most elite of the elite to be the president of my country. I want the guy/gal who understands physics, biology, philosophy, geology, and computer science well enough to make informed decisions. I want the guy/gal who can speak 6 languages, who understands the politics and religion of the middle east, who can negotiate with words instead of fists first, who can use diplomacy to achieve what war can never do. I want the guy/gal who can hold an erudite conversation about philosophy, national security, military strategy, and foreign policy with top experts in those fields and learn something.

I want THAT person to be president.

To bad for us there is such a strong anti-intellectual culture in the US. "Smart" people are frowned upon and considered out of touch with the common man.

Ever see the movie Idiocracy? Yeah, well, I think we are more than half way there.

Obama is an elitist? Hm. Which elitist group does he hold membership in, I wonder - 'The Haves' or the 'Have Mores'?

When I'm out, I always order a latte. At home I make instant and use powdered creamer. Where do I fit in. (I love napkins, and place mine on my lap.)

I hope this comes up more during the election. I also hope Obama thanks those who call him elitist for the great compliment and change the perception of the word. How cool would that be?

Worst talking point ever.
Colbert is too funny.

That would be very cool. I really do hope he turns the phrase on those people because Elite is good. But when the media and politics use it it's bad for some magical reason and people are just buying into it. Kudos on quoting Bill Maher Concerned Voter, that was one of the few logical things he said in the last year or so.
