I can 100% this on drums in Rock Band. YEAH! ^^

I was expecting something from Hail To The Thief. :)

2 + 2 =5?

I just saw them a few weeks ago in Houston. Great show....highly recommended.

I was expecting something...better. Radiohead's great, but posting this song is completely noobish, especially since it's not even close to their best song. Even the band hates playing it. Go get something from Amnesiac or Kid A.

filmgeek83's picture

While this might be their most popular song among the masses who don't know them, this has to be the least popular song among Radiohead fans.

Anything of In Rainbows is awesome, as is Kid A and Ok Computer.

SatanHimself's picture

filmgeek I agree, I'm not being snarky but I'm genuinely curious: what is the appeal of this song? I know a lot of real musicians (like J Amato, if I'm not mistaken) who love it, I'd like to know why this ditty is a fave of so many.

me, I'm an OK Computer guy--it's like a Pink Floyd album but angsty. This one's my fave:

creep is of course radiohead's biggest top 40 rotation hit, but skippy's got <a href="http://xnerg.blogspot.com/2007/10/skippys-thursday-nite-music-club_18.html"?paranoid android.

calgarylady's picture

Well, I'm one of the masses that don't know them and I liked the song very much. It's quiet, has simple lyrics and a pretty tune.

giantpeach's picture

ouch.. they've come a long way since then.

try nude from their new album... stellar.

Of all songs you choose Creep.

I'd have at least expected some heavy handed presentation of 2+2=5 or Go To Sleep.

Radiohead - Backdrifts (live in Montreux) 2003

Wrinkle_In_Time's picture

They're a talented band and it's a good song, although the melody is so blatantly similar to "The Air That I Breathe" by The Hollies (circa 1974) that apparently Radiohead have to share credit and royalties with the original authors.

Now, let's talk about how some of Lenny Kravitz's songs sound awfully familiar, e.g., "Are You Going To Go My Way" vs. "Big Old Jet Airliner" by The Steve Miller Band.

good one, skippy, don't close the link....

paranoid android.

I stopped listening to new bands with U2 in the mid 80's, but I do own a couple of Radiohead's cds on a recommendation from an online friend. I like the National Anthem.

I've been listening to the Bends all weekend. I think the title track "the bends" is my favorite radiohead song ever. Put that album on and drift back to the 90s... :0
They continue to make music that brings awe.

miss_kitty's picture

God dammit. I posted Backdrifts and there's some fucking interview, and I meant to post There There, anyway. Like cuz I think it's my favourite of theirs, but I'm quite fond of punch up at a wedding because I think if there'd been more weddings in my family, we'dve had a few at them...

HippyGourmet's picture

Radiohead is incredible! Simply put.

calgarylady's picture

ooh, skippy @ 8, thanks for the link to Chrissy Hynde in I'll Stand By You. Love that song ... and the video is most enjoyable, too. Ahem.

ThraseaPaetus's picture

We shouldn't get too sniffy about their earlier stuff just because they went on to great experiments. Does "Sgt. Pepper's" make "Help!" embarrassing? Hardly. The Beatles were outstanding at pop songs and brilliant in their more experimental work. So too with Radiohead.

This is a beautiful, well-made song. Of course the band gets tired of playing it after the five-thousandth time. That doesn't make it bad.

Radiohead is the best rock band of our day bar none, and their genius shows in ovo in their earlier, simpler work.

cg the 2nd's picture

I don't care how many tries it takes, skippy - Paranoid Android is good enough to have a link in every single post from now until the end of time. :D

When Pablo Honey came out, and especially Creep, there wasn't anything really like it. It was, and still is, fantastic. Plus Creep has the "noise". That great guitar chuck. And then Bends blew all that out of the water. Those two albums were a different breed of alt rock at the time of their releases.

Then OK Computer came out and started the more electronic slide of the band. Personally I wasn't fan of it. I liked a song here and there, but I missed the rock vibe. Wasn't till Rainbows came out that I'm coming back around to them. Still love Pablo and Bends though and listen to them regularly.

The band didn't hate Creep. They just knew they would get pigeon holed and pegged as a one-hit wonder if they kept it in their arsenal. Which obviously they had much, much broader and greater ground to cover. They actually play it at shows now. I don't know how you can be a fan of the band and NOT like Creep, unless you're uber pretentious and a music snob....

So weird, I was just on my way to the Lallapallooza website to buy my tickets to see Radiohead this summer. I'm soooooo excited!!!

Here's my favorite song off In Rainbows, All I Need:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iY4APDrl66s

You know, all of the people complaining about John choosing "Creep" are just being snobby a-holes. It's a good song, it put Radiohead on the map, and made it possible for them to be the band they are today.

i heart paranoid android, and the video is funny, too.

well this is not a good night for my posting at c&l. first i can't close a link to save my soul, and then my comment about posting gets eaten by the innertubes.

you would not know that i am aware of all internet traditions.

but, as i tried to say in my post that got disappeared, sometimes on c&l, the reply to dialogue box has buttons for creating links, bolding and italics.

sometimes, however, it does not, and i have to use html code. and geez, if i wanted to write code all my life, i'd have been a software engineer like my brother in law and be making a sh*tload more money than i am.

does this happen to anyone else? sometimes buttons, sometimes, not so buttons...?

DJ Shadow's remix of The Gloaming (retitled Would You Buy A War From This Man?). Very appropriate for Crooks and Liars. http://youtube.com/watch?v=Er9UVNeSrJ4

Only released on vinyl in the shape of a very evil looking Dick Cheney. Hilarious. http://foeweel.com/uploaded_images/dick-710527.jpg

I like this tune. I hear some Bowie or Iggy in there.
But for some reason This song jumped in my head.
T Rex Hot Love.
ok that's my contribution for the evening.
Good Night Folks. Be well.

Okay, I can't say this is my favorite song off OK Computer...b/c that's a decision that's too difficult to make...but this is the one I'm most likely to crank up in my car on a warm and starry summer night while the wind blows through my hair:

OMG, one of my favorites. Check out the Pretenders version.

2 + 2 = 5 would have been MUCH more appropriate, especially since that song is about the 2004 election rigging.

In fact, the album was called 'Hail to the Thief'.

Never understood the unbridled elitism that Radiohead fans dip into when they start discussing this song.

Creep is great, but either Paranoid Android, Karma Police, or Optimistic are excellent songs from Radiohead.

Wow,

Right wing trolls are even going to attack our musical tastes. You guys really do suck rectum, don't you?

Anyhow, the fact is, Radiohead actually do hate playing this song. Also, it has nothing to do with the subject matter on C & L. Many of their other songs do.

Creep is just about a guy with self esteem problems. 2 + 2 = 5 and much of the 'Hail to the Thief' album is about BushCo and the Neocons in power.

'Nuff said.

whoa...how in the fuck is defending "Creep" the mark of a rightwing troll?

Seriously, it is funny to watch some people get their tits in a knot over this song compared to Radiohead's newer, deeper stuff in the same way that there are people who will comment on one of these LNMC threads and rip the screaming bejesus out of anything recorded after 1974 almost for no other reason than because it was recorded after 1974. lighten up, francis

Rock criticism has a lot of poseurs.

trex67's picture

I agree, not their best song, but I still like it. Yeah it's old, but so what? And it's on "Rock Band"... who cares? I'd also prefer something off of one of their newer albums. But they're all good to great, and this one's better than 95% of all else I've seen posted here.

Barrett D's picture

Its not the fact that its on rock band that bothers me. I play too much of the game, and "Creep" is one of the starter songs, so anytime somebody comes over its always a "must play" song. I'm sick of the weezer one too!

It just so happens "Creep" is one of thee most over played songs. Not a dis on the band or the fans of the song at all.

Trucker Doug's picture

I just want to know which band member was watching my high school years. Because that song is so on-target for me around 15-17.

But, since we're all sharing, enjoy Black Tide: Shockwave. The lead singer is 15 years old.

At 15 I was fumbling my way through the bass lines for old Black Sabbath tunes.
