FOX News Repeatedly Lies About Obama's Voting Record
By Nicole Belle Thursday Jul 03, 2008 8:45am
Last September, Barack Obama voted to condemn the "Betray Us" attack on General David Petraeus, but over the past few days, FOX News hosts have repeatedly made the exact opposite claim.
Is it any wonder that FOX News viewers are the least informed viewers out there?

FAUX NEWS
Errrrrrr.... I hate to break this news to you but ummmmm.... Fox "News" pretty much lies about EVERYTHING.
You must be kidding me. Fox is lying about Obama?
FoxNews. We smear. You listen.
Actually the lefts brainwashing is just as hideous as the rights anymore.
Lies We Can Believe In
They do what they are paid to do.
LA Confidential, you're a tool. I think I'm going to puke.
Of course they lied. The facts aren't doing them any favors.
So why does Obambi still give interviews to the Faux Noise Whores? Weren't the Dems boycotting the NeoCON propaganda outlet?
Answer: he's a spineless Dem, through and through.
And to my Rep and Senator (VT, Welch and Leahy) who voted to condemn the MoveOn ad (both Dems of course), I send copies of cancelled checks I had mailed MoveOn and the ACLU, telling them that any money that might had gone to their campaigns was now all going to MoveOn and ACLU. Because they are organizations that are doing something.
And the Rep and Senator could do something if they weren't permanently crippled from bending over.
Voting to condemn an ad that told the truth about a politicized general and the false hoods and misleading statements that he was about to present to congress is not a badge of honor in my book. That said the supreme court has already ruled that any news organization can lie all they want without any consequences.

RayC @ 12:
Actually, there were two votes on this. One, sponsored by Cornyn, specifically singled out MoveOn and Obama did not vote, saying that he felt it was a waste of the Senate's time.
However, Barbara Boxer's draft, which condemned not only smears against Petraeus, but also all ormer military who had served with honor and sacrificed, such as Cleland and John Kerry, Obama did vote for.
Protesters Audible as Bush speaks now, live on MSNBC 10:15 AM EDT
I would like to point out that there were two votes on this issue on Sep 20, 2007. The first vote was the Boxer Amendment, which condemned personal attacks against any member of the armed services, including those attacks against people such as Senator Max Cleland. Obama voted in favor of the Boxer Amendment, however the amendment failed. A second amendment followed; the Cornyn Amendment addressed only General Petraeus and did not condemn personal attacks against other service members. Obama DID NOT vote on the Cornyn amendment.
Now, Faux News is definitely cherry-picking votes and is also misrepresenting his lack of a vote as a "Nay." They fail to address that maybe Obama ran out to the bathroom (or some other urgent matter)? They also are despicably using this to say that Obama does not support our troops or our generals. Perhaps Obama, as I do, felt that singling out one specific incident and ignoring the Cleland and Kerry attacks is wrong, thus choosing to not vote for the Cornyn amendment, but choosing to support the Boxer amendment.
Anyways, down with Faux News the land of misinformation, misrepresentation, and misdirection.
If there really was a "War on Terror" you would see "Fox and Friends" brought to justice on live TV. Brian Kilmeade, err I mean Leslie Hochwenderson, Laura Ingham, Steve Doocy, are suffering terribly from cognitive dissonance. The truth is there is something terribly wrong with something here in the U.S. Homeland. regards
Terrible @ 3:
Exactly! And aren't there any federal broadcasting regulations against that?! I can't believe the effers are still on the air!
L.A. Confidential @ 6:
I know what you mean, despite that terrible sentence, and I still disagree with it. Some left-wing brainwashing is as bad, but the vast majority of it is not as bad as fox.
At what point does this go beyond a "mistake" and become slander? I just don't understand how they keep getting away with these intentional lies all the time.
L.A. Confidential @ 6:
Actually the trolls ideas is just as hideous as their stupid grammar anymore.
It demonstrates once again that kowtowing to the reptiles is a lose-lose strategy.
Sometimes it gets old seeing all the blogs run articles about Fox and the corporate media ...... I think the choir understands, why continue to give these guys air time?

Personally, if I want news, the internet is the place to go. It's usually days faster than other forms of media, you can fact check all you want as well as cross-reference.
TV is just another form of crack. Just say no and turn it off.
Why watch watch the news when you can FUX NEWS! LOL!
I'll be the story I found on MSNBC this morning will never see the light of day on FUX News.
On Iran, Adm. Michael Mullen sounds like Obama
WASHINGTON - It could turn out to be one of the most significant comments of the 2008 campaign — but coming just ahead of a holiday weekend, it isn’t getting much notice.
Upon his return from a visit to Israel and Europe, the nation’s highest ranking military officer warned Wednesday that a military strike on Iran would be a very bad idea.
“This is a very unstable part of the world, and I don't need it to be more unstable,” said the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Adm. Michael Mullen.

My father, who has a PhD. in Physics, is one of the brightest people I have ever met. He is, in fact, a retired rocket scientist. He quotes this shit chapter and verse, and it drives me up the fucking wall. How does this happen? This Faux Noise Channel is a pox on us all.
Why watch news when you can FUX NEWS!
OK, no doubt there.
But here is what I want to know... do they sit in a room and decide: "Alright, so and so is getting too much good press, we need to put out the opposite message. This is what we need to say... " ??
Or does someone decide what the message of the day is and puts it on the tele-prompter? Who writes what the "talent" reads? Is there a little room of spiders that does the spinning?
How does that work, exactly? How does a network deliberately decide to do that? Doesn't that make the people that work there sick to lie like that? I can't comprehend it. I simply can't. But then again, I was raised in a time when one could trust the news. What has the 4th estate come to?
Dr. Matt @ 36:
In all fairness Doc, some of the Obama supporters played the same game. eh politics, same ol same ol.
Dr. Matt @ 36:
Well, I understand the frustration. I had high hopes after 2006 and that didn't work out all that well. I'm really sick of all the excuses. Before I used to think it was the difference between really bad (GOP) and kinda bad (Dems). Now I really do see it as the lesser of two evils (really, REALLY bad vs. just really bad). But still, I'll go with the better of the two even if it's not that big of difference.
Off topic. Jesse Helms is dead.
Would have been nice to not have that video cut and paste into a thousand pieces. I would have liked to see the unedited video to get the full context of what they said.
However I will stipulate that it seems like what he presented and what they said was one in the same, but the video editing just hurts my head.
I wish they where right . Moveon hit the nail right on the head . When the military climbs in bed with one party it is not even close to a good thing.
They won't have to lie about his voting record after the FISA vote.
He's handing them the "flip flop meme" on a platter.
Gawd.

This isn't an Obama versus shillary issue. LAC comes here every day, whines, rants, acts like a victim, and attempts to bash Obama at all costs. She's no different than a reich-winger.
This has been mentioned before, but I have links.

This gave Fox News the hook they needed to make their statements, which appear to be true and factual, as far as they went. The YouTube here referenced, and this post, are thus only partially informative, which I gather is how partisans both left and right like their political consumption to be. Never let it be said that we lefties don't play the B.S. game with the best of them.
Here's the Cornyn amendment:

CafeenMan @ 41:

Site Monitor: Don't make personal attacks on other posters. You know better than that.
Dr. Matt @ 46:
respectfully Doc I disagree. To me they are very very similar. Their voting records are very similar. She has come out and shown support for Obama. What more do you want her to do? And if you would, can you explain the difference between the two now. I'm not trying to start an argument with you Doc. I just see all this as a divisional issue now.
True, the dittoheads on Fox rarely utter words of truth. I've been paying very careful attention now when I have the cable news stations on and I've noticed that CNN and MSNBC, as well as Fox, seem to be presenting a lot of negative stuff about Obama and "questioning" his positions, etc., while there is NO mention or questioning of anything McCain says or does.
This seems to be a trend that's increased in the past 2 weeks. It is clearly evident that all of the major media outlets are making a concerted effort to thwart Obama's candidacy - certainly by inuendo in their questions and in the "opinions" they present as news, but also by outright LYING! Disgusting......
Wow! This video is deceiving. There were 2 votes on this issue on September 20th 2007 in the Senate. The boxer amendment, No. 2947, the clip Jed shows in video, in which Obama did vote for. The Statement of Purpose in that amendment does not specifically mention Petraeus. In the video Jed says “Last September Barack Obama voted for a senate resolution which strongly condemns the Petraeus attacks on General David Petraeus.” The resolution in which The Statement of Purpose “strongly condemns the Petraeus attacks on General David Petraeus” was the Cornyn Amdt. No. 2934 that was voted on 38 minutes after the Boxer Amendment. Obama did not vote for that amendment. It is clear that Obama did not want to vote on an amendment that day which specifically mentioned Petraeus by name and specifically condemns the attacks against him. I’m not here to defend Fox news but if you look at the evidence the ones trying to deceive here are Jed and Nicole. Why in this clip is there no video of the Cornyn vote?

We thought we had a guy with a solution...at least he said he did:
"We have a chance to bring the country together in a new majority - to finally tackle problems that Washington has
ignored for too long. And that is why the same old Washington textbook campaigns just won’t do in this election." Obama's Blueprint for Change
I guess we're back to the "old Washington textbook campaign" now. So, why do the Obamanites give him a pass on this and the growing number of other serious 180 turns?
Curious-er and curious-er.
Dr. Matt @ 46:
B.S. LAC was here when you weren't. I haven't always agreed but she always had a solid take. And BTW, slamming (whining, ranting and bashing) Obama at this point is absolutely justified.
He simply brought it on himself.
Johnny2Bad @ 53:
Because he's not as bad as the alternative. If he starts eating babies alive then it's a toss-up. Until then I'm voting a straight dem ticket. This is the last time I'll do that on blind faith.
FOX was the one that started the Muslim thing about Obama. They were also the ones that gave the Swiftboaters play. They start something, and CNN and MSNBC follow like good little soldiers. FOX sets the agenda for all the cable news media.
CafeenMan @ 55:
Too bad the wasn't on the website in the first place:

FOX News viewers are the least informed viewers
FOX MisInfotainment viewers are the most MISinformed viewers.
There.......fixed it.
Happy Independence Day all!!
Its the best of both worlds for Obama, he pisses off his supporters by caving to the Right's framing of the issue, and he gets smeared as a far left troop hater.
Fsck fox news and their viewers, they're not likely to vote for Obama anyway, so let them slime away.
i think LAconfidential is a breath of fresh air around here , shes not wearing the rose colored glasses that obama supporters seem to wear , selling out any of our civil rights as obama seems to be so willing to do is dispicable, sure fisas going to pass just as it is, but that dont mean obama has to add his vote to pass it, one sell out of a repig or one sellout of a dem whats the difference!
Sorry to be on the wrong side here, but since when does voting for an "amendment" count that doesn't pass? The amendment lost, the "statement" that was put forward as the final version was voted on and he said it wasn't worth his time????? Hillary voted against it, so why didn't he stand on his principles and vote no rather than opting out? In all reality, and sorry to say this, but isn't Fox correct...he didn't vote on the statement that passed. Whether he voted on an ammendment that failed doesn't really matter.
Obama=Better than McShame. Get used to it. Or at least do your hmework, Hilliarites.
make that "homework"
L.A. Confidential @ 6:
the "left" what do you know of the left? show me this left you froth about. is "the left" supporters of obama? if so, i laugh at the idea. is the left some publication, some TV show, some interenet site, some broadcast? seriously LAC, where is this leftist cabal of brainwashers you fear so badly?
and, pray tell, what examples do you have of this leftist brainwashing?
i personally thought going this far regarding this ad was a joke........i'll bet obama did also
general petraeus or general betray us?
it was a question notice the question mark this is never brought up it was a question kind of a clever one at that.
it should have never gone this far...... free speech
I have been reading about the idea of the "first impression" and how and why it stays with someone dispite it being a lie. The repigs understand exactly how this works and exploit it all the time. The first statement from either the RNC or st john's campaign-on lets say lies about Obama's voting record-will be treated by the MSM as some kind of revealed truth-and the sheeple will retain this impression dispite what the real truth is. Faux news will continue to be the repig mouthpiece, and so will all of the MSM. The lies will or will not be corrected, it doesn't matter. The law of "first impression" true or false will stay. I have no idea how Obama can counteract this, but being on defense all the time can not help. With the MSM a McCain supporter, Obama will have his work cut out for him. All one will see on TV are stories that will create the impression that Obama is the dreaded "other" while st john, no matter how many bald faced lies he tells-even with video to show his lies-will be protected by the MSM-example is what happened with the Wes Clark interview. This will continue until Nov. The whole idea is to make the sheeple believe that Obama=BAD, while st john=warm and fuzzy, but a maverick all the same.
{Deleted, SiteMonitor}
Democrats MUST counter what these traitors are doing.
And Fast!!!
timr @ 72:
this is a very good point.
and i would say that, in dealing with this 'law', obama and his bumbling campaign have chosen the worst strategy in handling it.
it seems that if the right floats some inaccurate and damaging meme the obama campaign only reinforces it by attempting to show its inaccuracies.
the right calls obama the "most lberal senator", so what does obama do? he claims his love of "free" markets, and backtracks on his previous NAFTA criticism. the right floats the notion that obama is weak on terror b/c of his stance on iraq, so then obama supports the FISA appeasement bill.
and the result? the bush-legacy candidate (mccain) is neck and neck with obama in national polling.
the dem strategists... they do want obama to win right? its hard to tell.
you let the competition frame the argument, you play by their rules, you accept their challenge and you will lose.
in all of this, though, is the potential that this is really what obama stands for. i don't know.
Fox does this all the time. They don't just stretch the truth the make up thier own facts. They do not do retractions. There should be some regulation of the media even if its on cable. One of the reasons America is in the state its in is the news and not just FOX is not unbiased. Recently CNN caried a story about how Carl Rove wrote a piece about how Obama was an elitist. They had a panel that included a right wing talk show host who repeated the idea. This was a non news story but I'm sure it influenced some people. Can you imagine Edward Muriel carrying this story?
Add it to the list.
The Senate record on September 20th 2007 says Obama did not vote on the amendment, Clinton voted no, McCain voted yes.
http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm...
Are you watching this, Blue Dogs? Right wing outlets will always work against you when it really matters, so why pander to them? Why piss off your base to appease people will just deny you ever pandered to them when it could actually benefit you?
Marc
Thank you for 'Faux News' - spot on.
Now, how can Fox News get away with this stuff?
If the FCC awards licenses to "serve the public," how can outright lying serve the public interest. Why isn't someone going after their license? They are either purposefully lying to fulfill a malevolent aggenda, or they are grossly incompetent. Either way, they should not be able to broadcast.
So what the hell does Obama get by "moving to the center" anyway? Oh yeah, he gets attacked by the Goebbels News Channel anyway. You know what's going to happen with this new get-out-of-jail-free FISA bill. He's going to get attacked on that too. They smell blood after the FISA capitulation. Arianna Huffington is right, moving to the center is for losers.
Fox likes countdown clocks. How about starting a new one:
Days since Fox lied about Obama
with the suggestion that nobody from the Obama campaign should agree to be interviewed on Fox until the clock reached some reasonable number, like 30.
The lies must be documentable -- both that they were said on Fox and that they were known to be false at the time. But that shouldn't be hard.
Johnny2Bad @ 55:
When was that? I've been posted here for years. I never went after shillary or her supporters, until now. LAC continues to whine and rant and act like a victim....just like a reich-winger. Fact.
She hasn't had a solid take in years....playing victim and whining and acting like a reich-wing isn't a "take".
L.A. Confidential @ 6:
Yeah, here's a "solid take".
mudshark @ 51:
What are you talking about?
You clearly lost context of the discussion and topic at hand. Start over.
I may be mistaken, but I believe you can challenge their license when it comes up for renewal. Repeated mischaracterization of well reported events, may be a foundation to deny re-licensing. At the very least I hope you are saving all of these bits for a grand youtube show of what they really are.
Not one mention on the front page of of FUX NEWS of Bush getting heckled at Monticello as a war criminal. Fairly Unbalanced spews, on time all the time.
Hey Guys,
If you are going to post a link it would be better if it was not 5 years old. The point is still relevant but it should be based on current information.
If you lie often enough, and never back down from your lie, then it will eventually become the truth in the minds of the clueless, uninformed, ignorant and lazy.
- GOP Rule #1
We own the entire MSM and radio, and if they have convinced above mentioned groups that the media has a "liberal bias," they will always have our backs.

If the new internet media catches you in a blatant lie on film, say you were taken "out of context," and fall back on rules #1 and 2 above.

Subliminal message?
You tell me!!
If slander is "making a false statement of fact that injures someone's reputation" when the true statement could have been easily discovered, then why doesn't Obama's campaign sue Fox News for slander? It's not like it would have been hard for Fox to learn how Obama actually voted.
I got news for you.
It is no badge of honor for Barry to have voted to condemn the MoveOn ad.
In fact, it stinks.
IIRC, there were two measures that were voted with 100% identically amongst all members.
"Condemning MoveOn", and "recognizing chamber success". I can't seem to find the link for the latter...
The ability to rehearse the false narrative of the day combined with a willingness to lie with conviction are essential requirements for six and seven digit salaries at FOX.
Actually, I remember that Obama did not participate in the vote, saying something about not wasting the Senate's time.
