9iu11ani dropped as RNC keynote speaker

What a shame. I was really looking forward to all those gratuitous 9/11 references.

Republicans revamped their convention plans for a second day, dropping former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani as keynote speaker Tuesday night while trying to determine President Bush's role in the political pageantry celebrating John McCain's candidacy for president.

In Giuliani's speaking slot were former Sen. Fred Thompson of Tennessee, one of McCain's rivals for the Republican nomination, and independent Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, the Democrats' vice presidential candidate in 2000 and now a McCain supporter. Republicans say the two will talk about McCain's life and their friendship with him.

In other convention-related news, President Bush will address his fellow Republicans tonight. Jon Perr takes a look back at Bush's (broken) promises to the nation from eight years ago at his own convention.

Sorry Rudy but McCain is enough of a flip flopper for the convention.

Is this impulsive clusterfu## of selecting a nutball right-wing evangelical and changing the "pagentry" of the convention any indication of the kinds of decision making techniques McCain will employee as president? If so, I am very afraid.

Curiouser and curiouser.

Any chance Rudy is not going to speak as a key note speaker, but will as the new vice presidential nominee?
Or, did he refuse to speak because he is disgusted with the present nominee? Just wondering what this means; I have no idea.

But, what does it mean?

Any indication why?

the Far-Right and Religious-Right have hijacked the party.

Rudy is moderate on social issues, he is getting snuffed.
Ridge is moderate on social issues, not the VP.
McCain himself never really gave a crap about religion but now pretends he does just to win votes.

GOP is a joke

This is quickly turning into the political version of the Rolling Stones' Altamont show.

Poor planning (Labor Day/Gustav start, NFL Opener end), canceled performances (Guilliani/Grateful Dead), and overly aggressive security (Amy Goodman/Marty Balin).

Granted, I don't mind the GOP is apparently sucking itself down, but still the competitor in me kind of wanted to see a contest of PR. C'est la vie.

While I can't imagine what 9iu11ani might've said (yeah, right), since they cut last night's program short because of the bridge collapse as a result of no money for infrastructure, er, oh wait, I'm being told that it was because they screwed up so bad the last time a hurricane hit New Orleans, anyway, they probably wanted to cut out as much crap from the speeches as possible. Knowing that 9iu11ani would probably remind everyone of 9/11 which the administration knew was about to happen and didn't do anything about (yeah, a shot at Bush), that's why, scheduling, yeah, scheduling.
Sorry, I'm sick and rambling. But his speech would probably remind everyone about the failures of BushCo.

Oh gawwwd! LOL This shit really is writing itself.

Ladies and Gentlemen...this makes it official. The wingnuts are in complete control of the GOP.

AWWW, poor widdle cross dressing sumbitch.

Buchanan hugs Obama

Pat Buchanan, whose embrace of Sarah Palin last week did her no favors, now says he's closer to Obama.

Here's his riff on MSNBC today:

Let me say about Israel here. My position on Israel is frankly awful. It is like Mika [Brzezinski]'s father's, it's a lot closer to Barack Obama's than it is John McCain. i think Barack is right, we ought to talk to the Iranians, he's right to oppose the war and frankly he's right to say the Palestinian people have got an terrible deal over there and their suffering ought to be recognized. That's Obama's position. It's my position. I don't think it is a Nazi position.

In fact, Buchanan's conflict with domestic Israel supporters puts him in a category all his own. But this isn't the endorsement Obama needed.

Are you sure?

CNN just reported he will be speaking later this week.

Did anyone notice A LOT of back-slapping on the Gov't's response to Gustav?
It seemed more important than the evacuation.

When bush-league addresses the Repug Convention, does anyone know for a fact
that it will be a "live" speech, or is he presently behind closed doors having "take 5,
take 6, take 7, etc." for a video presentation? You know, he is not the smoothest
rock in the stream and likewise not very articulent.

When asked what happened Ghouliani responded:

"9/11, 9/11..terror....9/11...terror, terror, 9/11, terror, 9/11."

So does this mean Lieberman is a Republic now?

There are 10,000 people rallying down the road at Ron Paul 'Rally for the Republic" . It's live now on CSPAN

18,000 people are expected in total by tonight. The Republican party it's own civil war.

Speakers include:
Tuesday’s Rally for the Republic schedule:

12:30 - Intro: Tucker Carlson
12:40 - National Anthem: Matt Colvin
12:50 - Invocation: Barb Davis White
12:55 - Howard Phillips

Check it out!

Rudy was dropped, but is the Govenator going to show? I really believe the Religious Right are going to take over the Repug Party. No moderates allowed. This is dangerous. The Repugs are going to lose the youth vote and independants. Nothing like a bunch of zealots to turn off almost everybody.

12:30 - Intro: Tucker Carlson?
1:50 - Grover Norquist?

Wow! I am so glad i never fell for that idiot.

Whoever gets the biggest applause will be the new VP candidate.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! It's that name again!

They've simply moved him to Thursday.

Can you imagine is at the Convention McCain is dumped altogether and they nominate someone else??

Breaking news: Palin is out, Giuliani is in.

(Just kidding...)

Yeah...after the convention ends.

I've seen this story so many times, but none say why. What is the rationale for dropping Guilianni as key-not speaker??

that has got to be stinging for 9-11 Rudolf.....

So we get to hear all those "9/11" references after all.

I am simply FED UP with the despicable hounding librul media assertions that Palin has not been properly vetted! And I have photographic proof to the contrary.

Enough already!

Bush will address the convention via video not in person. I didn't understand why both he and cheney had to bow out on Monday night. Couldn't Cheney have taken the time to speak while bush ran the show for the hurricane preparedness?

I wonder if Rudy got bounced or if he took his name off the schedule. Maybe he is ticked about the veep pick that McCain made.

I just heard Jack Kemp on fox and he said he was looking forward to Palin's speech which she will give Wed. or Thurs night. I thought it was a done deal that the veep speaks on Wed. and the candidate winds things up with his speech on Thurs.

Just a bit ago Rove was on Fox and he said it's too early to tell yet how Palin will effect the polling. He didn't sound all that convinced that she would have a positive effect.

There's going to be a roll call and they are deciding who will nominate a box of hammers for the VP spot.

I'm waiting for the shot of chimpy and Lieberquisling planting a lip-lock on each other as McDouchebag stands to the side looking jealous.

Push 'em right, push 'em right, wayyyyyy right!

Goooo! TEAM (?)

Man, the wheels are just falling off this thing.

Funny. Internal squabbling like the dems have bee so good at over the years?

The RNC is really turning into a cluster, isn't it? I thought yesterday would have been more powerful if NOBDOY had shown up to protest. Leave the media stewing in their own juices and just have peace-group spokespeople saying "We don't see any reason to waste time or energy on those people."

it is a bit sad the McCain has moved away from the more moderate wing of the party (Giuliani) and has focused on the right wing religious nutballs (Palin)....

other than providing money..... i think the religious nutballs influence is not all that important any more...... he will not win the election by catering to that so called religious "base"... he could only hope to win the election by focusing on the moderates... like Giuliani....

I've seen campaigns melt down in my lifetime...this is the first time I've seen an entire political party melt down...and the amazing thing is...they did it to themselves.

How do you run a convention on a record of failure? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zK-K1UBc3c

Don't underestimate them. They still own the voting machine software and can control the media at the drop of a hat.

The dems convention went off so great with the grand finale of Obama's speech.
Yeah sure there was a hurricane the first night of the Repubs convention but they still could have kept to somewhat of a schedule last night and then the rest of week should have flown smoothly. Who's running this show and why isn't their act together by now?

You could not pay me enough or even force me at gun point to listen to a speech by Lieberman and another by Thompson. First of all I would probably fall asleep about five minutes into the speech and then I would have nightmares.

these people are so disorganized! You would think that they would have had the whole convention mapped out and planned months ago. Now they are changing speakers and scrambling around at the last minute. Such a disaster!

I hope Ron Paul shaves off some of NcCain's voters. He's got rabid supporters. Talk about Zealots!

A political lineup of George W. Bush, Fred 'Lazy Fred' Thompson and Holy Joe Lieberman...
Doesn't that just remind you of last year, when your local county fair managed to book Pablo Cruise, Little River Band AND Sha Na Na?
Or that time when you were a kid and you went to see that double feature of 'Grease 2' and 'Stroker Ace'?

i think that the hurricane provided the Republicans with a way to save face... it gave them an excuse to not bring Bush and Cheney to the convention... i am sure they did not want Bush or Cheney anywhere near the convention, but it would not look right to not have their President and VP there... now they can blame it on the hurricane...

Really a shame that the beautiful and talented Sara Evans is a Repug. Oh, well.

Look at the rest of that guest/speaker list. What a rogues' gallery.

From ThinkProgress:

According to Fox News, Thompson will be speaking in the slot previously reserved for Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R-CA), who is no longer attending the convention. Schwarzenegger’s original speech has been “amended and edited in Fred Thompson’s voice.” Convention planners say Giuliani may address the gathering on Wednesday or Thursday.

Never happen. Giuliani = East Coast Liberal, as far as the GOP base is concerned.

Why do you think Bloomberg didn't run.

Giuliani got swamped in the primaries because the Nascar types will NEVER vote for someone like him.

This is the GOP problem, and they know it. THey have alienated the "middle", which is swinging back to the Democratic Party...without that middle the GOP can't win major elections...the evangelicals are not enough.

Their kowtowing to the wingnut fringe of the right has destroyed the Republican Party.

Have fun with this everyone! Can you say "pandering to the radical fringe religious right?"

Stories on the agenda tonight will include a presentation by the McCain's close family friend, Wes Gullet, about the McCains' adoption of their daughter Bridget, according to McCain's campaign manager Rick Davis.

Cindy McCain brought Bridget and another infant home from Mother Teresa's orphanage in Bangladesh -- a surprise to her husband at the time. The McCains adopted Bridget while then-McCain aide Wes Gullet and his wife adopted the other little girl.

"It's a compelling story of how two families got a great deal of joy and love from the effort of adoption" that will be part of the program theme of service, Davis said.

The program will also include a video presentation about a medal of honor recipient and a speech by Orson Swindle, McCain's fellow prisoner of war in Vietnam.

ruffmama @ 98:

ok..Guilliani is on MSNBC right now with Brokaw and he says he is giving the keynote address. What is going on?

Is Lieberman giving the cornhole address?

this is the opportunity to put the full court pressure on the mccain campaign. they're trying to fool 51% of the public like bush did in 2000.
mccain has a stroke in june/09 and sarah palin would step in as commander in chief. that scenario is a security risk.

obama has a stroke in june/09 and joe biden would step
in as commander in chief....i'll take this risk

John Tighe @ 96:

Damn, and he had a dress picked out and everything!

The GOP won't let the Church Firsters get everything that they want, because the GOP would dry up and blow away if that happened.

LOL!

I'm glad CNN is taking the high road for once. They are actually questioning McCain's VP choice. Funny thing is, that's there friggin job!

Wow! I am so glad i never fell for that idiot.

Ron Paul is no idiot. His record of 30 years runs circles around either of two candidates remaining.

Yeah? More experience thinking poorly than anybody i can think of as well.

The dumbfuck is on tv now with the asswipe Brokaw. They are having a grand time. Giulanni said that he was surprised about the Palin pick but imagines (and it will become truth sooner or later) that McCain looked into her eyes and saw a young McCain ready to take on the establishment. Thats the kind of shit the repulican flies swarm to for lunch!

You are up on that I presume??? Yes? No? Where do you think Gdub is actually plannin on gettin the money to pay em back??? Or maybe you don't think China is going to be looking for some return on all that debt buyin.... sooner or later................And you are worried about Obama wanting to pay money to the U.N. which we owe back dues to anyway???.... Yes by all means lets not help the U.N. That's just fucked up.. Nooo, let's just make sure the commies in China are happy instead, cause hell, they hosted the Olympics and shit, and let's all make sure George W. . . . . As he had said he would do, if necessary, Schwarzenegger has canceled his trip because of the continuing stalemate over passing a state budget on Sacramento (the spending plan is two months overdue).

. . . . . a Schwarzenegger aide told The Times' Michael Rothfeld that Thompson will give the same speech (but with a markedly different accent) that the governor was going to give. It traces John McCain's life story, including his time as a prisoner of war."

So far, I count two POW references in tonights addresses.

I wonder if they will show a video of Palin's life? That might be interesting.

palin was for the 'Bridge to Nowhere' before she was against it. she wanted the PORK.

I suggest canceling the whole stupid convention and conceding.

Lieberman is going to list all the things McCain was unable to do for five and a half years of his life.
Thompson will give a list of the things he himself was unable to do before Viagra was invented.

Jeez, are you guys watching Rudy on CNN? He threw out McCain's POW status. Nothing is sacred now. Now wolf just brought up 911 again. I think I'm going to hurl.

Every Secretary General in UN history is a communist. I say we get out of the UN. I boycott China and everything they stand for. I did not watch a single minute of the Olympics. The Clintons and Bush's seem to love doing business with them. We have to understand that there are those in our government from both parties are destroying our nation and are selling us out.

We owe the UN a our dues? The UN is the enemy of freedom. Bush is a war criminal and so are those who signed on to this war including the Democrats & Republicans in congress. Obama is no exception.

Now he already explained that he never read the lead articles in his newsletter with his name on the masthead in 100 pt. type.

So.. Giuliani out, Bush in? Great substitution!

Take out the guy who had at least some semblance of appeal to the middle and put in the really impopular guy.
They really haven't been doing themselves many favours lately, have they?

Here I was, thinking last week was good. But with between the Palin debacles, Katrina reminder, and clusterfuck of a Republican Convention.. This one is turning out even better!

Rudy gets dropped as keynote speaker, or was he so pissed that he was overlooked for the VP slot that he refused to go?

Oh my fucking God! Rudy just said that the RNC convention was much more unified and organized than the DNC. Is he completely insane. I also think he referred to Palin as a "girl" when he was discussing her experience, but I could have heard that wrong over my own screams.

Bush will address the conventions via remote satellite from Wash. WTF? I mean I've been thinking about this and there is no excuse for his not being there. It's not like he's going to be driving school buses bringing people back to NOLA

I hope someone asks a GOP official what kind of convention bounce they're expecting.

I hope Ron Paul shaves off some of NcCain's voters. He's got rabid supporters. Talk about Zealots!

You won't like what you end up with. Obama is a socialist who want to give 7% of our nations GDP to the UN. I'm sorry but I work to hard to give my money to communists.

Eugene V. Debs was a socialist, too -- and a great human being. And Jesus himself? Probably the dreaded "S word" as well ...

I can't decide if your post was snark -- or serious.

I think he was serious.

Another poor deluded dupe of the Fat Cat Socialists.

There is no arguing with the dupes of the Reptiles.

To them 'Socialism is bad'.

'Personal responsibility' is good.

They aren't able to see the big picture.

The Liberals, the few that are left in this country, in their brand of Socialism, if there ever was such a thing in this country, look for programs that do the most good for the most people.

The Fat Cats in their brand of Socialism, which is rampant in this country, look for programs that do the most good for the fewest number of people.

For the Fat Cats, personal responsibility of the little guy to make his own way no matter what, is good. If the little guy can't swin, let him sink.

But ask for personal responsibility of the Fat Cat, when through greed, stupidity and government deregulation, drives his company into the ground. Then personal responsibility is bad.

They want a government handout. In this country they get it.

The poor rubes out in the country who have bought into the Fat Cats Reptilian logic, don't even know what hit them, because the Corporate Media is in on the take.
