Well, the only problem with that is her records from back when she was mayor have surfaced, and in those records she boasts about getting, you guessed it, federal money for pork barrel projects.

As Laura pointed out earlier, John McCain didn’t think so. Indeed, The LA Times reported that McCain was criticizing Palin’s earmarks at the time that his now-running mate was securing them. It’s revelations like these that can quickly erode candidates’ maverick reputations.
When will the media start scrutinizing Palin's real record? The McCain campaign is going to attack them as being unfair/sexist/liberal/etc. no matter what they do. Might as well report the real story.

Don't hold your breath for the press to actually press McCain or Palin. The MSM is McCain's base, even (especially?) when he's accusing them of sexism and bias. Heck, Campbell Brown looked embarrassed to be grilling McCain's mouthpiece about Palin's accomplishments as AK's gov. The MSM has had years to tell the truth, and they've done a marvelous job of avoiding their job; why would they start now?

It will be interesting to see how the media now treats the McCain campaign. They looked like fools throughout the Bush administration for allowing themselves to be taunted into following along. Now with the Bush administration both uninteresting to most Americans and on its way out, the press gets to start again and not allow a candidate to blackmail them by denying access if they don't report stories favorably.
Palin seemed to taunt the press last night, again showing contempt for anything resembling a free press. If they report something unfavorable, the will publicly assail them. I hope the press hits back first and scrutinizes even harder when someone makes this desperate move. Perhaps they learned their lesson from the past eight years. Since McCain has already backed-out of a CNN interview because he thought they were too mean, CNN should lead the charge.
The press needs to learn that it is not they were need the candidates in order to report the stories, but rather the candidates who need the press to have their stories told. If a candidate wants to ignore a network, give the opponent the chance to use the airtime instead.

I've thought about this alot, and I have my own theory.
The GOP fights like a two year old, and they have conditioned the public to allow them to behave that way. They use character assassination, name calling, etc. and justify it with half truths about the attackee's record. When the GOP is confronted and attacked in the same way...all of sudden it is about courteous discourse and "meanness"...which is what we heard in response to the vetting of Palin.
Yes, it is hypocrisy but they are allowed to get away with it. It's a double standard and they are allowed by the public to get away with it. Why? The short answer is...the public does not want to confront the truth, the public does not want to accept responsibility for what has happened to the country because of their acceptance of this behavior and the policies of the GOP.

Hillary Clinton says she wants to help get Obama elected. It seems like her job is obvious -- I just hope Obama is smart enough to put her to work immediately and I hope Hillary was sincere enough when she offered her support to accept the task of demolishing Palin.

That is actually not all that uncommon. There is a faction of the GOP that are almost cult-like and just repeat what they are told. Their opinions are provided for them and anything other than those opinions are wrong and ill-conceived. It usually does no good to even attempt to hold a rational conversation with people who identify with this faction.
While it is sad to see, regardless of party, the GOP provided a means by which people who had no identity whatsoever and were more or less outcasts, could finally be accepted into a group with which they could now have an identity. They hold onto that identity as it is all that they have. Without the GOP, they are back to being outcasts. This is the modern day base of the GOP and contains individuals who use AM radio to replace a social life and self-esteem.
While it may seem odd that a gay man would fall for this, he likely views himself as a Republican first and foremost. While the GOP makes no effort to hide their contempt for gay Americans, he is likely willing to overlook that just to belong to a group. It is all about identity.
It is the main reason why the GOP, which was traditionally the party of the wealthy has turned into the part of some of the wealthy, most of the rednecks and a huge number of angry white men who are at best middle class. Their self-interests are not as important as belonging to a group that lowered their standards even to accept them, yet looks down on them and treats then like drones.
The McCain campaign is going to attack them as being unfair/sexist/liberal/etc. no matter what they do. Might as well report the real story.
