Jon Stewart exposes Rove, Hannity, Morris, Palin hypocrisy

This is one of the best TDS segments I've seen in a long time. These people just make it too easy. Whether it's Karl Rove decrying Tim Kaine's lack of experience (while praising the clearly less experienced Sarah Palin), or Dick Morris and Hannity bashing the "sexist" media attacks on Palin (despite peddling real sexist attacks on Hillary themselves), Jon shows that these people have no shame nor ethical consistency.

"Karl Rove appears bitterly divided on the experience issue."

After BillO's Jamie Lynn Spears/Bristol Palin hypocrisy: "You see what happens with opinions on teen pregnancies is that they gestate over a period of months."

I am SO grateful for The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. They've kept me sane for the past 8 years. I didn't think that was possible.

I think this video is the best summary of the Palin/McCain problem. Check it out

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQCsc1OWF3c wasnt sure if the link got posted.

Can you believe Jon Stewart can put MSM to shame? This fake news show has more factual news than MSM all put together! Sad commentary isn't it?

Jon Stewart masterfully disassembles the McCain campaign's attempt to distract voters from the issues.

Sarah Palin isn't Hillary Clinton, they're almost complete opposites on the issues.

McCain's dangerous pick is an insulting pander to the women of America.

Learn the differences, vote smart.

Ah...gotta love Jon Stewart and TDS!

Without hypocrisy, what would Republicans DO ?

palin has used her children for political fodder since she popped them out of her womb

they are in the game

lets destroy them

im going after willow....i hear she cheats at chutes and ladders

Here's how truly rotten Fox News' coverage of McCain is. They actually used footage from 8 years ago to try to make "their candidate" look younger!!!:

Re: smk 101 -- I totally agree. There've been moments over the last eight years where I thought everyone had gone totally insane. Thank Heaven for the Daily Show.

Have a good day.

I can't wait for Hillary to get out next week and rip Palin a new veejayjay. No hillary supporter I've spoken with is fooled with this Hillary wannabe named Palin. Palin can't hold an intellectual candle to Hillary. Hillary can chew her to smithereens and spit her out for breakfast. It's so easy to do with a quasi-airhead who's been puffed up and brief but who has no real comprehension of the background of our foreign affairs, internal affairs, or the congressional process whatsoever. It will be child's play for Hillary and my mouth is watering to see it.

The Republican Mouthpiece is now outed to all americans for what they are...hooray! They're getting pretty desperate, I'd say. How's the boycott of the sponsors of all Fox programming coming along?

god, that was great.

Every dog (or swine as the case may be) has their day and Palin's is coming soon.

Stewart is getting a little more serious with his distaste for these criminals. The other day when he did the segment about the poor GOP delegates who were 'stranded' at the RNC while everyone else was 'safely evacuated' to the Gulf Coast, you could see some real anger in his face when the segment ended and right before they went to a commercial. I dont think I've ever seen that anger from him.

McCain's $500 shoe's are nothing, try Cindy McCain's $300,000 outfit!

Washington outsider John McCain and his wife Cindy hail from Arizona, a rough-and-tumble frontier state where red-blooded Americans stand up to elitist Northerners like Barack Obama, who has sold millions of books and not on QVC, like a normal person might do, and who jets around the world to give celebrity speeches in Europe.

But the other night Cindy McCain poked a little hole in her down-home cred by taking the RNC stage in an outfit that cost $300,000, give or take, according to the fashion experts at Vanity Fair.

Cindy McCain
Oscar de la Renta dress: $3,000
Chanel J12 White Ceramic Watch: $4,500
Three-carat diamond earrings: $280,000
Four-strand pearl necklace: $11,000–$25,000
Shoes, designer unknown: $600
Total: Between $299,100 and $313,100

Her outfit cost more than my house!

that's all Fox can do is replay what was once the man named John McCain. This aged version bears absolutely no resemblance physically or mentally to what this man once was. Aging and senile dementia is a drag. He's pure evidence of it.

Well, if make clear that these pundits state their opinions depending on the person that they're talking about, and not because of some kind of 'principle' that they think that the subject should adhere to.

That is the essence of "advocacy journalism", which is the Fox News networks function - advocacy for the GOP. Accordingly, I don't know why the Democrats give Fox News the time of day.

Are these damn repugs so damn dumb that they don't know every word they say will come back and bite them in the ass?

Don't you just love the digital age, where everything people say public, is stored somewhere.

They should spread that video.

He's trying hard to keep from screaming at some of his idiotic right wing guests...

and did you notice in kkkarl's praise of palin that he elevated wasilla to alaska's second largest city!?!?!? sorry fairbanks, juneau, college, sitka, etc. you just fell off the map. i only wish someone would develop a pop-up fact-checker to shoot down some of the whoppers these guys come up with.

That's a fuckin great idea!!!

Can you beleive McCain has to change the Convention to a Town Hall setting? Is he that nervous or inept?

Truly brilliant. Once again, fake journalists are doing the jobs of the real ones.

Daily Show rules!

I wonder if Rove and people like Ms. Ptofenfuffel see this?

I can't wait for the McCain camp to come out and say that late night comedians are biased!

I saw this yesterday and could have cried with happiness. I'm going to send this to so many people! Jon exposes all the hypocrisies I've been upset about but most importantly, he does it in a funny and engaging way. It's hard to imagine a Republican sneering at blowing him off as just another angry leftist (tm George Bush).

The hardest part about doing a clip like that is narrowing down the plethora of choice available. You could fill a weeks time with just Billo the Clown.

EVERY TIME ROVE SPEAKS..... a kitten dies

They are not to happy with Sarahs and Rudis off the cuff remarks last over at wellstone.org which trains community organizers. Just a example:

posted by Elana WolowitzSEPTEMBER 04, 2008

Last week in Denver, Democrats highlighted the biography of their party's presidential nominee, Barack Obama, and the fact that he got his start as a community organizer on the South Side of Chicago.

One interesting twist this election year has been the nation's exposure to community organizing as a job, and as something that might help prepare an individual to lead. It's not surprising that much of the country hadn't heard of community organizing before now. A good organizer is always in the back of the room, or better yet, outside collecting sign-in sheets.

However, last night here in our great hometown of St. Paul, Republicans gathered for their turn to make their case to voters. And Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin, along with former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, openly mocked and derided the job of community organizing.

Comparing her experience to that of Obama's, Palin said "I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a community organizer - except that you have actual responsibilities".

Now, let me be clear: my interest here is not to defend Barack Obama's experience, but the professional field to which Wellstone Action trains people to devote their lives.

So let me outline, for anyone who may be curious, the responsibilities of a community organizer:

8am -
Wake up, knowing that the day ahead of you will require you to work long hours, for little pay, less thanks, and zero credit.

Sit down at your desk, or pick up your cell phone, and figure out the people in the community you need to talk to to identify the challenges being faced. Set up meetings with leaders and regular people to get buy-in on the proposed solution.

12pm -
Make decisions about how best to proceed with your plan for change in your community. Figure out how you will influence powerful interests without any resources other than your own scrappy resourcefulness and the support of many individuals earned by painstakingly building relationships.

5pm -
Figure out who in your community wields power and influence, who doesn't, and why. Make hundreds of calls, knock on hundreds of doors, and listen to hundreds of stories in order to bring people together in common cause. Convince folks to set aside what makes them different and focus on their shared interest - it's the only way to build common ground and affect change.

8pm -
Learn from those around you and prepare for the next day. Write follow-up notes, make confirmation calls, and thank your volunteers. Remind yourself to be tenacious, because the process of change is long and can be slow in coming.

Being an organizer means putting the needs of the community above yourself and your ego. Your task is to influence the powerful with little more than the common will, and do so while developing the leadership of those around you. A good organizer is always working to put themselves out of a job, because many others should be prepared to step up and take their place. You listen and learn, coordinate and plan, arrive early and stay late, and do the real work that improves people's lives.

It's easy to laugh at something unfamiliar, or mock something you don't understand. But community organizers have been the ones that moved our country forward during times of crisis and great change. They are ordinary people working to improve their communities - that doesn't sound very elitist, does it?

For more information on what community organizing is, check out the writings of Harvard professor (and community organizer) Marshall Ganz.

Please go over there and let them know that we also condemn the attacks made on them last night and that they are vital to our communities.

Great clip. Now let's get it out to everyone. This is what should be talked about.

4 MORE YRS 4 MORE YRS 4 MORE YRS!!!

Isn't this the first convention of the party in power when we haven't heard this chant?

Later, Newt Gingrich came on and said he agreed with both Rove's. How do these people sleep?

will the clinton people please stfu???

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0908/13129.html

the attacks are not sexist

both parents neglected their duties

palin lied that her hubby would stay home to take care of the children

was it sexist when people questioned why edwards would leave his wife with cancer when he started his run for the nom?

In the King's Court it was ONLY the Jester who could mock the King.

And that was his job.

The greatest thing about the McCain/Palin ticket is that it combines so many of the stupid attacks the GOP has been slinging at Democrats for the last 12 years with a real example of fact within their own ticket.

Anti-American associates
Anti-American spouse
Crazy church services/pastors
Teen pregnancy
Lies about record
Lies about votes
Lies about military service
Lies about the press
Lies about taxes
Lie about pork
Lightweight political history
Sex scandals
Sexism
Elitism
Abuse of Power
Temper

Left@45, I've been saying that for years. If it wasn't for Keith, Stewart or Colbert, I'd be a helpless drunk!

That piece says it all about what we are up against. It's going to be very difficult to defeat the Right Wing Media. I doubt we will ever get them to ask fair tough questions this election season. We will hear spin, spin and more spin! Our National Media is a freaking joke.

He's lucky Uncle Joe. The way these guys work he'll probably end up with an interior secretary job.

"Every time one of those pops up, I lose a testicle."

He's scheduled to be on tonight. The second part of the interview will be aired next week. Supposedly Obama met with Murdoch and Ailes and hammered out an agreement. We'll see whether BillO has been instructed to be gentle with Obama.

I also remember Glenn Beck criticizing the parenting and family values of the Spears family when it was announced that Jamie Lynn was pregnant. But as you can guess, with Palin (whom he adores and thinks was an excellent choice for VP), he defends and says that "all families have their problems" and "it's a private matter"

And then there is Sarah

Please Sarah Palin, continue to talk the way you did last night. You know, sarcastic, full of yourself, explaining why you are more qualified than Obama, lying about your accomplishments and most of all criticizing the press. Please keep criticizing the press, your party has had a free ride until now.

Oh, and I want to thank you for firing your librarian because she refused to remove some books from the library, you know, like Huckleberry Finn. I am so sorry public pressure made you hire her back. You are so wonderful, you should be in charge of our minds.

I was very impressed that you fired your employee that refused to fire your ex brother-in-law. Nasty old trooper gate investigation.

I certainly do agree with you that a woman who is raped should not be able to get an abortion. I'm sure she asked for it in the first place, with short skirts or shorts. And incest? Well, that's a family matter.

Do they still call your "Church of God" Holy Rollers? I don't attend church, so it will be a privilege to live by your religious beliefs. Nasty old separation of church and state.

I want you to know I support you in your quest to set women back 30 years. You go girl.

PS Have you paid all your back taxes?

Brilliant. That bit on Rove, so damn hilarious.

Republicans are the biggest hypocrites and liars on world. They have no conscience and will say anything. Case proved here.

I am already tired of hearing about her experience as a Mayor. She's the worst of both worlds really. The scope of responsibility in small, rural town is not that broad or demanding. My best friends dead was Mayor of a rural town half as large again as Wasilla. The job was so 'demanding' he continued to practice full time as a veterinarian. So, being the Mayor provided scant opportunity to act decisively on important issues, and when she did, she ****ed it up, e.g., that sports stadium that drove the town into debt.

Ya this is why they win Peabodys, and they should be getting Pulitzers.

And from what I've heard "Papa Bear" is going to go easy on Obama. Bill-O's ego is way too fragile to do anything that would potentially prevent prestigious guests guests from coming on his show. Though I think it would be better if he didn't Obama would look great handling Bill-O if he went out in his sweaty wind-bag interview mode. Maybe the agreement was for Hannity to keep his pal Hal Turner off the set that day.

I love it how a single television show, without the resources of the 24-7 "news" networks, can find this stuff with apparent ease, while the networks continue to take these jokers for their word without any background.

I am reading the Right Wing Wacko boards. They are saying this video just show how desperate the Democrats are.

The sexist claims are really starting to wear thin on me. Not just the hypocrisy coming form the repugs, but consider this:

If I or any other Joe Schmoe male asks if Palin can hold down the job of VP with 5 kids, including a Down's Syndrome baby, then, yes, that is a sexist question, indicating that I may or may not think she can hold the job.

However, if the MSM asks this question, then, perhaps it is also sexist on their part. However, it seems to me that because there are many out there who are asking the question, then isn't the media doing their job so they can get Sarah Palin's answer for those sexists and try to change their views?

I'm just getting sick of the repug canned answers. For everything, blame the media; call them sexists; call them elites; call them any thing like "angry left"; oh, and by the way, John McCain is a P.O.W.

Stewart ought to do the ads for Obama.

I hope Stewart looks into how "Soccer Barbie" got to be VP. We all know she came highly recommended.

"10 million up front and another 10 million when you pick Sarah Palin, John.

P.S. I hope Cindi likes the gold dress I sent her. Maybe she can ware it Tuesday night at the Convention.

"Caribou Barbie"

You guys here that they chant to Palin

"Drill Babe Drill"

A VP that will be referred to as "Babe". That should increase our world standing.

Love it. The market falls 345 points between Palin's and McCain's acceptance speeches. MCain/Palin = SELL!!

The sad thing is, if we didn't have the court jesters pointing out the hypocrisy of the politicians, no one else in the MSM would.

Speaks volumes about the "truth police".

How can she claim to be an agent of change when all she did was make a negative attack speech.

I mean just because she didn't splutter and stutter and stumble over her words all of sudden its a speech for the ages. obamas message was one of positivity.

all I heard last night was an angry shrill woman with a gigantic chip on her shoulder.

and lets face it she does know how to read a teleprompter - she was a sportscaster.

I tried leaving this comment before, along with a link, but it apparently didn't take. Oh well.

I just wanted to point out another possible instance of GOP hypocrisy. According to a report on "Democratic Underground" (link in the column to the left, I won't try to post it here) although Palin told us last night she's an ally of special needs kids, it turns out as governor she's slashed funding for special needs education programs. If true, let's hope that item also gets out into the MSM.

Somebody ought to nominate Jon for a Pulitzer. Wouldn't that tick off the MSM?

Oh, come on. A community organizer doesn't sound nearly as important as joining the PTA.

But it does sound like it's working for the greater good! Isn't that what McCain's campaign is about???

I really want to hear from the Republican community organizers who were helping out during Gustav "doing what Republicans do". I wonder how they felt about these remarks?

Probably like a bunch of stooges "you mean, I didn't have to get my hands dirty after all?"

I was just saying what they were saying. I thought you guys would get a kick out of that. Of course, their hero Hannity "I believe in strong family values" Insanity is making the same argument.

It is both elating and deeply disturbing that the most coherent news program is a comedy show. Seriously, if a real news station actually worked did this sort of thing shown to a wider audience, conservative narrative would fall apart.

PS. some other commenter somewhere pointed out an interesting observation: Palin is being compared to Obama. She is going for the vp job. Why dont' they compare her with Biden?

First of all, get the facts straight -- Biden had two children critically injured in that fatal accident -- neither was an infant ans neither had injuries that they wouldn't make a full recovery from (unlike a special needs infant who would need constant care). He wasn't going to be sworn in but was eventually talked into it. He did (and still does) travel home to Deleware. And as far as I know, neither of his sons impregnated anyone during their fragile teenage years. But if you are so simpleminded to buy into the Republican load of shit, I feel for you.

i love these strawman arguments

during her campaign for gov, it seems that even palin felt it was important that at least one parent be home...and she told the electorate that todd would become a housedad

that lasted two months, and then todd went back to the oil fields

so neither parent was home for long stretches...and the palins were almost proud about announcing that they were farming their kids out to others

now, if someone brings that up its sexist?

ok...then every attack on obama is racist...including yours

It is so important that this hypocrisy be exposed, over and over. It is so important that the Barack campaign show this video over and over, in every channel, in every venue, until the election. This is the only way the Fox News Republicans will be neutralized in the mind of the American voter, by exposing their lying hypocrisy. This is a vital key to the election.

Joe Biden is respected for going home every night to Delaware to be with his motherless children. He never called himself a member of the Great Party of Family Values, just did what he had to do. Sarah Palin, a member of the Family Values Party, flew in an airplane in her ninth month of pregnancy to give a speech out of town (what responsible mom would do this?), then experienced her water breaking while she was out of town, still GAVE THE SPEECH and then and ONLY THEN, flew home to give birth. What responsible parent would do this? Her teen daughter's pregnancy and her son's troubles that had him packed off to the military call to question her and her husband's parenting skills. And did anyone teach her youngest daughter that using saliva on the baby is unhygenic? Yuck.

My favorite was the click of Dick "The Whoremonger" Morris wailing about the prevalence of sexism in our society - shortly thereafter, he drowned his grief in a threesome with a couple of hookers in his hotel room.

What does it say that we have to watch the Comedy Channel to get actual "news" and analysis? It's very strange.

there are 670,053 people in Alaska, as of the 2006 estimated census.

I'm truly amazed at the VIDEO evidence that is available of these assholes contradicting themselves!

I mean, how blatantly hypocritical can one be? This stuff has always happened, but these guys seem to have taken it to an entirely new level! They can say whatever they want, whenever they want, with no accountability whatsoever, all in an effort to further their agenda. And since their core audience has no interest in hearing a dissenting opinion, this is all they ever hear.

Rove and Hannity are such dickheads!

Is Jon Stewart really the news anchor who speaks closest to the truth (not that he wouldn't be otherwise)? What about KO and Bill Maher?

They are literally trying to turn this election into: "I know you are but what am I". They think this is joke.
