Chris Matthews berates Rep. Cantor (R-VA) for running away from Republican policies
By SilentPatriot Tuesday Sep 16, 2008 8:45pm
Chris Matthews is back at it. When Congressman Eric Cantor tries to claim that Republicans aren't responsible for the past eight years of Republican policies, Tweety tears him to shreds.

"The way we keep score in American politics is the party that's in power for eight years and runs the White House -- and 3/4 of the time runs the Congress and the White House -- takes the heat when things go bad. Congressman Cantor, you're trying to change the rules now and saying, 'oh, if we take off our uniforms and don't say we're Republicans this week, the people will be fooled.' I've never heard of that happening in politics.
[...]
“You have to take responsibility, sir, for the policies of this administration that have gotten us into this mess. You can’t walk away and say, 'oh, we had nothing to do with this,' can you? Say it if you want to. It’s your right.”
Whatever you may think of Matthews, he's sure entertaining when he lights up these Republican stooges.

thanks for the hat tip
Great picture. He looks like he just crapped in his drawers.
I have a feeling Tweety may be coming off a little testy with the Repugs because his portfolio's going down the drain. He's really not in the mood to listen to their B.S.
Olberman does a follow up on the mcKeatingFive deregulation history
otherwise known as lies.
MSNBC never should have fucked over those two.
As much as I like to see these guys get their asses handed to them, man-o-man I hate watching Tweety.
Eric Cantor reminds me of someone. I'm thinking Eddie Haskell from the 50's show "Leave it to be Beaver."
NY Times Poll: McCain Widely Viewed As "Typical Republican" Would Continue Or Expand Bush's Policies What's come over the media this week? Have they been watching SNL?
and with the precision of a Swiss watch Eric Cantor sings the familiar refrain ...
"its no time time for finger pointing or assigning blame".
weve heard it EVERY TIME this Republican party has Fraked the American people without even providing the common courtesy of a reach around.

he was visualizing mcKeatingFive getting a diaper change.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — A U.S. missile strike Wednesday in Pakistan further inflamed relations between the two anti-terrorism allies, just hours after the American military chief vowed to "respect Pakistan's sovereignty."
This is what I want to know at the moment and I'm afraid we're not going to get any honest answers:
If one has a retirement account with say Edward R. Jones and has stock invested that they now want to get out of and put it somewhere else; what do they do?
Are credit unions a safe placeto tranfer it and what to put it in besides stock?
This is life savings here that are going down the tubes!
Abbybwood @ 3:
and isn't it sad that history will record that it wasn't stealing 2 presidential elections that did the neocons in, it wasn't openly dismantling the u.s. constitution that did the neocons in, it wasn't violating the geneva conventions that did the neocons in, it wasn't distorting christianity itself that did the neocons in, it wasn't celebrating john mccain's birthday while new orleans drowned that did the neocons in...
it was f*cking up some doughy little dilbert's investment portfolio that FINALLY did the neocons in.
Keith Olbermann also did a great segment tonight on the Anthrax bullshit. Hope more people start caring about that as well.
I was yelling @ my TV "Get him Chris!! Get Him!!!". Tweety can tweak me @ time but when he gets it righ he gets it right.
Living in a red state, Wyoming (thankfully a very small state) where 70% are Republicans, I can say that the excuse for things "going bad" is because the Democrats have been in Congress for almost 2 years now. Yep, they can't see reality staring them in the face; but instead, blame the Democrats who barely have a majority and can't get hardly anything passed, as being at fault.
Talking to any of these people in this state is a masochistic act. I kid you not, they actually have told me that. They simply are so blind....and it leads me to suspect the same will be true nationwide. Republicans talk "responsibilty" to the hilt, but they can't assume it for themselves.
I was yelling @ my TV "Get him Chris!! Get Him!!!". Tweety can tweak me @ time but when he gets it right he gets it right.
It's about time. It's about goddamn time.
I'm voting for Obama and this is the fire he needs to show.
He needs to pound the damn podium and say enough!!!
Cantor talks about Democrats finger pointing, but that is the essence of all HIS "answers".
I call Bull$hit!!!!
finally Chris realizes what his job really is instead of being a pundit, he is supposed to be a journalist. This idiot shows that the conservatives will lie and cheat as long as we let them do it to us. This interview was a typical discussion these days, all slogans and no policy. The man knows nothing but how to shout over his opponent. Great, thanks Republicans for ruining our country.
I saw this...it was fucking hilarious.
Tweety looked totally pissed.
Congressman you're running away from your party. I have never seen anything like this in politics. You're trying to change uniforms!
Hilarious!!
Tom A. @ 15:
You might point out that the Dems did not take office until 07 and have had to deal with a obstructionist Repulican minority.

It fits mcKeatingFive perfectly. That's right, he said THAT in July.

Somebody said it in the previous thread: Tweety's portfolio has taken a beating. So has everybody else's.
The Democratic Party has had a majority in the House for the last two years.
The Republicans in the House have set a record for filibustering in this same time.
Why didn't the Democrat Party do anything about this?
/snark
Slocum @ 6:
Eddie and he had one thing in common and it worked for both of 'em. Ignore reality drink yer own Koolaid.
Cantor is lower than a snake. He was Tom Delay's bosom buddy and now he's talking about "reform"? Americans are pretty stupid, but they're not that stupid.
jimmieg @ 11:
You can cash it out and deposit the cash proceeds in a bank. As long as the total deposited in one account is < $100,000, it is insured (guaranteed)
If you have more than $100,000, you can open different accounts in different banks. I believe the $100,000 limit is per account, not per person.
Cash is king
Good! The race is close enough so that even the fence sitting rational libertarians understand the danger of allowing Maverick and Mother Goose continue to allow their campaign contributors to loot our nation! I hope there more of this and less lipstick and pigs as we head into the final stretch.
Woolley @ 19:
if msnbc did not screw him for david gregory, chrissie would love the smell of repug aqua-velva.
Just because there's an election on the horizon, it doesn't absolve the responsibility of the sitting party and its current leader. I can't believe these people - logic must be completely absent. What's worse is that people blindly follow. Its so disgusting.
Tweety has gotten a lot of flack for being a part of the 'media' not doing its job... I'm glad to see him stand up and really not let these guys get away with this crap
"berates"? Oh no Matthews gave that stooge a texas size thumping.
Cantor was literally shaking with fear towards the end.
Mick Piobr @ 23:
Well, they don't have the majority, it is 50/50 and they need 60/40 to get things through so they can't be stopped at the Oval Office.
Oh, just noticed you were snarking ..... oh well, maybe some others out there don't know.
Chris Matthews is still a Republican Shill.
I'm another one who wonders if Tweety is taking a personal hit from the current financial debacle. Reminds me of that old saying, "It depends on whose ox is getting gored." Maybe Tweety's ox is getting gored and he realizes he's not as immune to financial insecurity as he thought he was. Welcome to our world, toots.
The "CON"servatards are like arsonists who try to blend in with the crowd to watch the fire they set and act blameless. I also blame complicit dems, the DINO's who aided and abetted the larcenous regime of booshco. It is against the law for you or me to rob a bank. It is within the law for the bank to rob you, and the crime pays and pays big.
someguy @ 30:
It appeared that his ass was biting holes in the chair in which he was sitting.
Actually a thought occurred to me and I saw someone kinda reference here.
The media are paid a very good price for their, um, services. They did their "fair & balanced" act as long as their money was good.
I think they are pissed off and won't do that bullshit anymore. BECAUSE IT IS HITTING THEM IN THEIR WALLETS.
That's all I'm sayin.

Yeah, Tweety doesn't do news - he does what sells. In this "new economy", the deregulators are going to be really unpopular - so Tweety and his ilk will pile on.

unfortunately, he's still got to worry about chertoff, cheney, and that cheney stooge with the kenny rogers beard.
Mick Piobr @ 23:
Dan Qualye can explain it.
Kerplunk @ 32:
I'm with you on that.
Hahahahahaha. This clip is GOLD! It's a metaphor for the entirety of the Republican party.
At 0:13, Cantor blames everything on Pelosi and Reed.
At 3:35, Cantor says that it's time to stop the "finger-pointing."
At 5:30, Cantor blames the Democrats again.
He's got the memory of a goddamned goldfish!
Which begs the question, "How damned dumb do you have to be to vote Republican nowadays?"
That dude is more slippery than Larry Craig's buttocks after a night in the Minneapolis bathrooms.
Republicans always scream about not pointing fingers when the fingers start pointing at them.
Cowards!!!!
Fine, but Matthews himself is "taking off his uniform" pretending he did not promote the disastrous Republican policies through his punditry these past several years. He should be ashamed of himself.
Looks like he had just returned from a date with Larry Craig.
Shill or not, when Chris is good, he's pretty damned good. Not the best, but I'm just sayin'.
MORE REPUBLICAN LIES:
sarah palin vetoed funding for the special olympics
So KO selected the Alaska Special Olympics as his designated charity for the $100 donations everytime a republican lies.
Short term gain and damn the consequences, that has been the "conservative" Repimplican mantra for years.
We're all going to pay now.
Except people like Carly Fiorrino(sp?) who recieved a cool forty million for wrecking Hewlett-Packard. Twenty million and twenty million in stocks. For doing a bad job.
In GOPland nothing succeeds like failure.
Elect me for president and I'll see that every one of these predators is hunted down, imprisoned and their corporation nationalised - including the profits.
This is ridiculous. Matthews may have done a good job, but he still lets the damn Republican get away with "no finger pointing" after which he points his finger at Obama. The Democrats have been in control the last two years?! It would only take Matthews 2 seconds to correct him on that and then move on. Irritating.
Also, I know these video clips are long and such. But, I really wanted to hear what Wexler had to say after the airbag spoke, but the video ended? Did he say something? I don't watch TV, so this is really where I get my MSM newsworthy clips from. It's not good when I get the impression that the airbag won 3/4 of the airtime while Wexler sat in the background saying nothing.
Blean @ 21:
You can point that out, but the true believer ditto heads can't/won't understand anything that isn't espoused by a loud mouthed drug addict over AM. I'm so sick of these bastards successfully using the ignorance, racism, and religion to win elections!
breaking news: seems like mccain doesnt know who zapatero (spanish pm) is in an interview. TPM has the story.
Congressman Eric Cantor can lie almost as well as McCain, not very well.
Is Mr Shivers sincerely having a change of heart, or is he just jumping onto the winner's ship?
Johnny2Bad @ 40:
OW! That sorta hurt...my brain...
Chris is trying, but he lets these bullshitters drive over him again nd again with a wall of words, why doesnt he just tell them to shut up when they start spewing this republican are innocent shit?
He makes a good point.
But a cynical man might posit that it's more likely that Mr. Matthews has metaphorically licked his finger, stuck it in the air, and figured out which way the wind is blowing, and now he's trying to curry favor from the other side of the aisle.
Mick Piobr @ 54:
Excedrin, please!
Wow, I usually detest Tweety...but...
Another person said Chris M is pissed he lost some money but I did get some visceral joy in this. Sad how I love watching journalists be....oh, what is the word, Journalists!!!
Sometimes I can forgive him...Tonight was one.
Bush = REPUBLICAN
McCain = REPUBLICAN
McCain voted with Bush 91% of the time
Why is that so f * cking hard for so many Republicans to understand? Are they stupid or ignorant - or both? good Christ almighty.

But if Washington Mutual folds, could be soon. their insured deposit base will wipe out 100% of the FDIC insurance fund, won't it?
I'd put my money in a credit union. Save enough cash out to live 6 months at least. Keep it in the freezer. But don't take out or deposit more than $9,000. in any one place or the feds will think you are a drug dealer and they can confiscate all your money.
Or buy gold or silver or Euros.
jimmieg @ 11:
Sweetie I know how you feel. A lot of people just worried. I know Iam worried but I finally realized that there are some things we just don't have any control over. Let's pray that like in the 30s when the democrats took over they put the country back on track. But we must vote for democratics. Even the people that are afraid to vote for Obama because he is black. We all must put country first. It is so important. Just think they wanted to privatize the social security. Just look what would have happened if they did do that. The republicans only wanted more money on Wall Street so they could use our money. I know lots of people that lost money in the 401K. Just imagine your in yr 40's and had money in 401K and most like had about 7 yrs or so funds lost. That is so hard to take. Can you imagine a person who is close to his retirement and his 401k is wiped out. What can you do. I think the only thing that might be safe would be Social security, but I am not sure. The days ahead thanks to the republicans that put business first will be hard, but americans are good at helping each other just like in hurricanes. Just believe in the american people because that is who is going to get us through this mess. Oh and pray to god to give us all the strength to get thru this. God bless everybody.
James @ 56:
yeah, but i say bring 'em ALL on board, at least through the 1st week of november.
that's how the america was won, after all. it took a lot of chicken$#!+ tories flipping to our side on the eve of the revolution to put this place on the map.
The last two days Tweety has called he republicans what they are, lying cowards too chickensh!~ to admit who their leader is or what party they are with. He is telling them that they are the party of deregulation, which is true, and they cannot stand the heat in the kitchen. It was amazing watch this liar today never say he was a republican and he would not acknowledge Dubya being his leader. Where is Dubya while the financial institutions crash and burn? He is missing just like with Katrina.
*that's how america was won

According to Bloomberg.com investors are flocking to gold and silver:
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601012&sid=anHz6u9EZSCI&refer=c...
Physical possession of the metals is the wisest choice over ETF's. 90% junk silver coins, although valued at about $12/oz. right now are already being traded by some dealers at about $20-25/oz.:
http://news.goldseek.com/ThunderCapitalManagement/1221678220.php
According to information I've received, it is practically impossible right now to find coins in coin shops. There are waiting lists to acquire coins!
Go to Silverrockstheworld.com for more information on silver and gold.
For those who are interested in finding a safe haven for your money, I honestly believe that because, according to the USGS, there is only about 20 years of silver left on Earth, this may be the last time in history that you can buy it this low.
It has over 10,000 industrial/medical uses and is being irretrievably consumed!

It has been said that the Democratic Party saved the USA from the Great Depression and that is true, to a point.
What they really saved was this capitalist system.
Vote for Obama in an effort to stop the slide from the brink of disaster.
But this capitalism is cyclical and dangerous.
It is time to take socialism beyond the balance that it had achieved thirty years ago.
It is time to take the capitalists out of the government; they cannot be trusted.

I guess the Repubs screwed up getting Tweety and Olberman removed from their commentary positions on the frontline of the election. Nothing like a water carrier scorned...
but on a serious note...
I feel again C&L overstates the case. For Republicans, they'll say this guy came off fine. Matthews needs to stop him and FORCE him to answer a yes no question, pin him down if you will. He let Cantor ramble too much and should have given Wexler more time to respond (and should have asked Cantor to respond to Wexler's point about McCain flip-flopping).

They are still being distracted once again by the GOP sock puppets, as they prepare to go full speed ahead and vote once more for their own economic suicide. I cannot believe how fucking gullible and stupid these people are.
The republican economic rape that has been taking place at unprecedented speed since Chimpy took over, is as obvious as a desert lightning storm. If there were 200 foot tall flashing neon lights everywhere anouncing it, the disaster that is GOP governance could not be more obvious. It has been laid bare for all to see. Yet these people REFUSE to see. All they can continue to do is spew GOP talking points that have absolutely no resemblance to reality (or facts),or their own personal lives what-so-ever.

The ONLY things that you can preserve value with are possessed silver or gold. Silver especially, since it is at an artificial low that is beginning to head for the heavens. Cash put "here and there" is like trading your stocks and other paper assets for Monopoly money and spreading it freely around town to all the failing banks! NOT a sound move at all!... Especially, since the FDIC and FSLIC have a very small percentage (about 1%) to back the banks up and replace your fast inflating fiat money in the first place... The only guarantee they can offer is that you will end up with nothing!

The honorable Tom Cantor only serves to make Tweety's point (and mine): all the RepubliCANTS have are talking points and buck passing.
The RepubliCANTS are running for their political lives, and away from any responsibility for this mess - sounds like the same approach they have always had to governing.
Remember this, voters: why would you vote for somebody to represent you in government, who doesn't believe in government in the first place?????.
This exchange is full of possible campaign add material for whover runs against this clown.
Mike O'Tool @ 121:
The RepubliCANTS will wave that "he/she'll raise your taxes" canard about ANY democrat who dares to run against them. Typical.
And I hate to say it, bit I agree: the only we we will pay off this horrific deficit and national debt, besides growing the economy, is TO PAY MORE TAXES. We danced. Now we pay the piper.
motorfingaz @ 120:
Yep! There is a whole lotta red on the electoral college projection maps right now! I think there is a bottom-less pit when it comes to the stupidity of the American people. How could anyone with an I.Q. larger than their shoe size even think of voting for those Bozo's again? And how in the hell could they believe any damn thing they say? WTF is wrong with the American people?
This is sooooo ilogical, I can't compute it!
Uncle Joe Mccarthy @ 96:
People forget that Clinton and his treasury secretary did try to pressure congress into investigating the accounting and financial practices of the Wallstreet firms and Lieberman led the opposition in the Senate that stopped him.
I never forgave or forgot Lieberman for that and now we see what he really has been all along. Too late now though... the damage has been done.
If the vote in 99 that you were referring to was the repeal of the Glass-Steagal Act of 1933 by the Gramm-Leach-Bliley: Financial Services Modernization Act that set the stage for this weeks financial meltdown... it was the GOP that had control of the congress.
What a fucking weasel. This guy has a morality backbone the thickness of a thin skinned clam. He's an asshole but not nearly the butt-fucker that Tucker is. Oh my, I mean either of them, sorry. Let's get that voice amplitude up there like a whining person with a disability. I think it sounds like Glen....or Billo...ya know, those waste of spaces...
VegasRage @ 103:
Does anyone remember McCain talking years of what to do if Greenspan died? He suggested to parade his corpse around like a real-life version of Weekend at Bernie's!
rep. cantor is a full-time tool. he avoids the question. better yet he
answers with questions.a question from matthews rep.cantor what
did senator mccain mean by the 'economy is fundamentally strong'
cantor:'i don't know'.........after his ongoing old tired talking points.
I love the smack-down.
And can someone with a public voice tell these clowns to grow up and stop refering to the "Democrat" party instead of the "Democratic" party?
They're like friggin' four year olds.
Or should we get Dem officials to start calling them Republi-dicks.
It's true he did make him look foolish, but there were long periods where he let him rant...and rant.... This may make him look foolish to some but some of those talking points he was allowed to spew landed between someone's ears.
motorfingaz @ 120:
Remember that the elections of 2000, 2002, and 2004 were, uh, tainted to say the least. So voter idiocy isn't the only issue.
But then, we the people have to take responsibility for our own election system, and fixing it - which hasn't happened.
If this were a western European democracy, if those citizens found that their election was stolen they would shut down the country and be out on the streets. I don't see that in our citizenry here.

Finally somebody is asking...where is Bush? Why is Bush not giving speeches after hurricanes hit his home state or this economic mess?
If Bush makes appearances, McCain's poll numbers go down. This time, Bush is doing NOTHING strictly for political purposes.
CoIntelPro for Pronktastic Victory Over SCLM, DIEBOLD, ESS and SEQUOIA! @ 119:
I'm impressed! Not many people know that they tried to have FDR killed and also tried to have a coup to over throw his newly elected government... or that Prescott Bush was involved in it.
Wikipedia has scrubbed the Prescott Bush connection that they used to have from the BBC producers... still Kudos to you!

The 3 G's my friend: Gays, Guns, God.
Nice clip. I missed Hardball tonight, but Chris has definitely been on a roll lately.
"You can't walk away and say 'oh we had nothing to do with this', can you? Say it if you want to. It's your right. Say it. Say you had nothing to do with this situation."
In teh internets speak, that's what we calling getting PWNED!
I now Matthews isn't well liked in the liberal world, but he's sure got his moments and because of what's happened to this country under the neocon regime, I think he takes sides at the right moment, so although I don't agree with everything he has to say, I still think he's a strong person to shoot down these Republican pricks with elephant sized B.S.
th @ 110:
Even Matthews is sick and tired of the right wing moose-shit!!
Matthews is running from his record of ENABLER.
You can now tell that the dow jones number is starting to affect
the accounts of the millionaires MSM types.
Or else sychophants like Matthews would still be kissing republican kneecaps.
NoGWBpolicyleftinplace @ 126:
Its called racism(ignorance)
Rasputin @ 135:
The Records of the US Senate show that Prescott Bush was censured for openly supporting and funding the Nazis, even during wartime. They can't scrub him from history. I believe Prescott was once an Ambassador.
Tweety did a great job kicking Cantor (Revenge of the Nerds look-a-like) in the ass. I liked his reference about how the Republicans are changing their clothes and/or taking off the uniform reminding us that Preznut Bush and his party are true "cut and runners" whether it is military service or a national crisis.
Eric Canter is just another Greedy Old Pervert. I thought he was going to start crying like his colleague David Vitter.
I didn't think this was as big of a smackdown as advertised. Yeah, Cantor was an obfuscating talking point drone and Tweety stepped all over him and called him on it. Big deal. We all cheer when an MSM pundit says what we're thinking, but that's rare. If the pundit class is coming around, it's only because the blogs beat them to it ages ago.
Dave @ 131:
It all started under their idiot-God, Rush Limpaugh.
And, its now being adopted by the networks as well.
ENOUGH of this bs.
jimmieg @ 11:
That was a conversation of interest on NPR all day today and they advised the glaringly obvious: If you have money in banks or investments, be aware that investment vehicles including pensions are usually not guaranteed by the government.
The FDIC only guarantees a limited amount, so if you have large amounts, divide it among banks in the increments that fall under the federal insurance protections. Banks are still your safe bet because they are backed by the government regulation of the FDIC -- yeah government regulation. Can you imagine that?
Sounds to me like Tweety must have a of money in the market or else he wouldn't be so worked up. When the insiders begin to suffer, that is when you will really see the cannibals come out. Instead of prosperity trickling down, we have poverty bubbling up. It's about time they begin to reap what they sow.
Lee Millar @ 138:
He certainly does have some good moments - remember his destruction of Kevin James earlier this year ("energized/legitimized", repeat)? And four years ago, when he made Talkin' Michelle Malkin look like the talking point totie she is?
Yeah, he's a bit of a tool. But he has his moments.
