Rachel Maddow is an excellent communicator. She makes her points clearly and concisely, and supports them with the facts necessary to provide the audience with a clear understanding of what she is saying, and why it is important. When she gives her opinions, she is clear that it IS her opinion, and explains her thinking behind it.
She never acts as though she is more important than the information she is sharing.
I am gratified to see that these aspects that have made me an ardent listener of her radio program, are also found in her television program.
I watched the first show with my wife who barely knows of Rachel. She was not impressed. That show was pretty empty. I said they would get better and boy was I right. Last nights compilation of McSame's week of gaffs was wonderful and we cheered at the screen. As good as it is getting with new segments and fleshed out scripts I still want more. As her new video support crew learns her style, things will get even more depth and tighter.
Best part of the show -actually reading progressive statements at the bottom of the screen. Priceless!
Worst part -Rachel and Keith doing the same story. The two might want the follow the lead of TDS and Colbert, they do a pretty good job of not repeating the same jokes.

Results of a state investigation were released Friday. A separate FBI investigation hasn't been closed. The state report comes from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, where detectives have struggled to get access to computer information from Congress to finalize their report.

As to abortion, again, I hear a lot of truthiness, but little facts to back it up. In Freakonomics, they found that women didn't have fewer children as a result of having abortions available to them, they had them later in life, and that one of the unexpected results was a lower crime rate, because these children were born to engaged parents who were in a position to care for them, rather than to ill-prepared, financially-strifed, possibly single mothers. I see that million number thrown around a lot, but I don't see anything from conservative circles encouraging adoption of these unwanted babies you want born.
The ban of DDT--really? That's an example of a failed Liberal policy? Do you not think those Africans would be dead or dealing with horrific birth defects if the use continued? And if not, why not? How about we stick to this country for a moment? The New Deal protected this country for years and years until the Republicans systematically started dismantling it and now we have the results of Republican deregulation and "trickle down" bullshit. That's an EPIC FAIL of Conservative policies that you and I and our children and grandchildren will be paying for for generations.
I can speak directly to the failure of the California education system --as a part time employee -- and it has NOTHING to do with unions or discipline. It has EVERYTHING to do with the Republican-backed Prop 13. It has everything to do with Republican-instituted funding projects like NCLB, which forces teachers to teach to a test instead of to the children. It cuts funding for the very schools that need it the most. But again, it's easier for conservatives to blame the victims rather than look to solutions that may cost them a few cents more.

This is not the first time I've mentioned this, and I doubt it'll be the last, either.
Is it just me or is there a seriously annoying beeping noise that goes off every 2-5 minutes during the show? Like someones pager or a smoke alarm with a low battery. I can't watch it until that fix the production quality.

I'm a Nielsen family and all three televisions (I know, right?) are set to Rachel as I'm usually walking in and out of rooms at that hour. I don't want to miss a minute. It's nice to think that we're helping, in however small a way, this brilliant and incisive woman (who is also just about the most telegenic person on the tube) get good ratings. Marry me, Rachel?

Truman, LBJ and Nixon all served more than one term, though of the three, Nixon was the only one elected to two terms as president. As we know, Truman and LBJ were elected as VP, and became president when the presidents they served with died in office.
