Mike's Blog Round Up

APFN: Last February Eliot Spitzer wrote a blistering opinion piece for the Washington Post detailing how, in 2003, the Bush administration had stopped the states from going after predatory lenders. During the same period, he testified before Congress on the matter. It wasn't long afterward Spitzer became the target of a White House and Wall Street dirty tricks operation to silence one of its most dangerous critics in the handling the financial crisis we're now living through.

Well well.. that's telling about Ron Paul. Not that I'm at all surprised.

Those on the Left who bought into Ron Paul, if even in part, need to be sent a copy of "The European field-manual to detecting Right-Wing populists".

Well, the Dow is down 25 points. I guess Buffet's 5 billion isn't going to do squat.

Biden is about to give a big speech on, I think they said on foreign affairs. You might check your cable news channels in case someone might be so decent as to carry it.

You know, it's no wonder the public is so ill informed. Think of all the speeches that are given during the day when a whole lot of people aren't at home and can't watch them.

It doesn't matter anymore. The parties freaking over.

We're going to have to work, produce something, and stop relying on credit cards.

Oh well for Spitzer. In this day and age, what politician doesn't know NOT to do shit like he did? What kind of moron makes as many powerful enemies as he did and then goes out and pays a hooker for sex? Those kind of secrets will always come out. Then what are you left with? At best, your career is toast. At worst it gets used by your enemies to blackmail you (See Joe LIEberman).

I say good riddance to dumbasses like that.

Here is a what if Nader were in a debate with the Republicrats.

We have to get over our addiction to "instant gratification" . . .gluttony, and "easy" first.

Mass deprogramming of the consumer mindset.

Otherwise we are going to continue down the road to ruin regardless of what ideas are put on the table.

These "leaders" still want a society of absolute ignoramuses, drooling imbeciles and slaves to prop up there estates and plantations.

House GOP rises up against Cheney Daniel W. Reilly, Patrick O'Connor

There was a time when Dick Cheney could turn back a Republican revolt on Capitol Hill.
That time is gone.

When Atheists Attack
A noted provocateur rips Sarah Palin—and defends elitism.

Sam Harris
NEWSWEEK
From the magazine issue dated Sep 29, 2008

Let me confess that I was genuinely unnerved by Sarah Palin's performance at the Republican convention. Given her audience and the needs of the moment, I believe Governor Palin's speech was the most effective political communication I have ever witnessed. Here, finally, was a performer who—being maternal, wounded, righteous and sexy—could stride past the frontal cortex of every American and plant a three-inch heel directly on that limbic circuit that ceaselessly intones "God and country." If anyone could make Christian theocracy smell like apple pie, Sarah Palin could. [MORE....]

LONG BUT WORTHWHILE READ - A PERFECT COUNTER TO THE PALIN FALLACY

The problem, as far as our political process is concerned, is that half the electorate revels in Palin's lack of intellectual qualifications. When it comes to politics, there is a mad love of mediocrity in this country. "They think they're better than you!" is the refrain that (highly competent and cynical) Republican strategists have set loose among the crowd, and the crowd has grown drunk on it once again. "Sarah Palin is an ordinary person!" Yes, all too ordinary.

We have all now witnessed apparently sentient human beings, once provoked by a reporter's microphone, saying things like, "I'm voting for Sarah because she's a mom. She knows what it's like to be a mom." Such sentiments suggest an uncanny (and, one fears, especially American) detachment from the real problems of today. The next administration must immediately confront issues like nuclear proliferation, ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan (and covert wars elsewhere), global climate change, a convulsing economy, Russian belligerence, the rise of China, emerging epidemics, Islamism on a hundred fronts, a defunct United Nations, the deterioration of American schools, failures of energy, infrastructure and Internet security … the list is long, and Sarah Palin does not seem competent even to rank these items in order of importance, much less address any one of them.

General Jack D. Ripper's picture

Although Spitzer was a creep for doing what he did with that hooker, especially while married, that article is very, very telling. This damned bush administration knew how bad the problem was long ago but did nothing about it. How in the world could a problem of such magnitude pop up so quickly?

This sucks.

It seems the Reagan Revolution has finally played itself out. In his famous quote, what Reagan should have said was, "Government isn't the solution to the problem. Government, the way we Republicans run it, is the problem." Let's hope that GWB was the final act in this unfortunate crusade of putting power into the hands of those who believe govt doesn't work. The last 25 years have clearly shown what happens when we hand over leadership to ideological deregulators who allow the shrewd to rape and pillage the hard working. In history's recounting of this sad episode, Eliot Spitzer's prophetic essay should be a significant sidebar.

Barbara Slavin is a Liar!

On C-Span's Washington Journal today Barbara Slavin allows lies to be repeated about Iranian President Ahmadinejad and then repeats those lies herself.

http://www.c-span.org/search.aspx?For=Barbara%20Slavin

An individuals calls in and repeats the lies that the Iranian President has said that "Israel should be wiped off the map" and that "the Holocaust did not happen" The Iranian President has never said either of these things. He has questioned the numbers murdered by the Hitler regime.

Yet Micheal Ledeen, Barbara and others continue to repeat these lies

Professor Juan Cole has directly interpreted what the Iranian President said, not what the right wing radicals continue to repeat

"But the actual quote, which comes from an old speech of Khomeini, does not imply military action, or killing anyone at all. The second reason is that it is just an inexact translation. The phrase is almost metaphysical. He quoted Khomeini that "the occupation regime over Jerusalem should vanish from the page of time." It is in fact probably a reference to some phrase in a medieval Persian poem. It is not about tanks".
http://www.juancole.com/2006/05/hitchens-hacker-and-hitchens.html

Barbara Slavin also repeated that Iran continues to "enrich uranium" as if it is illegal for Iran to enrich uranium. Iran has the right to enrich uranium under the IAEA's agreements. Slavin really spins and lies about Iran and these lies need to stop.

C SPAN NEEDS TO HAVE FLYNT LEVERETT OR PROFESSOR JUAN COLE ON TO DISCUSS IRAN TO BALANCE OUT THE INACCURATE COMMENTS OF BARBARA SLAVIN.

What, no Ron Paul Kool-Aid snorters show up yet to defend their idol? They can't all be hiding--the kind of blind faith that can reconcile anti-choice with anti-government can't be put off by a petty little rubber-stamping of the Dominionists, now can they? Can they? Glad to see that the sheepskin has finally fallen off the wolf's back for all to see. The only good that double-talking sack of excrement can do is to siphon votes off the other Dominionists running for the White House.

Eiot Spitzer did make some powerful enemies...by doing the right thing in areas where it matters. What kind of moron has hookers? They are legion, but their works for the common good are few. We know who "client # 9" was. Now who are the others and why haven't they been indicted? I don't say "good riddance" to any politician who has the guts to do something on behalf of he people. Saints are hard to find anywhere, let alone politics. I find it difficult to understand the curious morality of those who can so easily excoriate a man for completely human shortcomings, while ignoring the much more damaging corruption of the people who cynically brought him down. When it comes to consorting with hookers, at least Spitzer used his own money, which is more than I can say about the people who brought us the screwing we're facing now.
