Jon Stewart Analyzes Bush's Latest Fearmongering Speech
By SilentPatriot Thursday Sep 25, 2008 12:40pm
President Bush's doom and gloom speech about the economy last night reminded Jon Stewart of another speech Bush gave five years ago. Same script, different crisis.

STEWART: This is so weird, the President standing there with the carpet and the little flaggy things behind him to tell us something really scary. It's not deja vu; that's French. Uhh... I guess I'm having a freedom memory.
BUSH (2003): My fellow citizens, events in Iraq have now reached the final days of deicison.
STEWART: That's right -- Iraq! Thank God I'm not having a synapse misfire. He gave this exact same speech five years ago. Which points do we want to hit? First things first...should we be scared...?

Boo-b!
Firstish...
Even Chris Matthews comented on the tone. Words like 'Panic' aren't going to inspire the electorite.
This is what happens when two slosh-buckets get together and spawn an ill-gotten offspring...and somehow this one ends up being pResident...TWICE!
Even in brain washing the instructions are the same: lather, rinse, repeat. Over and over and over and... well, you get the idea. (:>
Look at those dead eyes. Like a doll's eyes.... then they roll over white, and there's the high-pitched screamin'...
Four minutes into it, Bush basically blamed the homeowners/borrowers.
No, it was really the relaxed lending policies that allowed them to offer bad loans.
These bad loans were sold as bad investments.
But, no one cared, because everyone was making billions!
NO to the fraud. NO to the BS. NO to the bailout!
Bush is a steaming pile of vomit
Why do none of the videos ever work right anymore. They come out choppy and disjointed, skipping every few seconds untill they freeze. It doesn't seem to be my download speed or the presence of any viruses or spyware. The only thing different is I recently upgraded to Firefox 3.02. Anybody else having difficulties?
I know, it reminded me of that speech so much.
The Palm Beach Post had the best political cartoon today. It showed a man opening a door. Behind the man were two big ugly pigs. One pig was labeled "Iraq War" the other was labeled "Patriot Act". Outside the door stood bush with a big sack (poke) It was labeled "financial bailout". Bush was looking at the guy who opened the door and saying something like you have to buy this immediately.
Sorry George, but according to Zillow, the value of my home has increase, (albeit not by much), since this fiasco started. Also, several short-sales in my area have been removed from the MLS, awaiting the possibility of refinancing. Some banks are starting to get the message.
It is my understanding that if Congress doesn't act, the states will begin to and some already have. More oversight, some regulation, etc.
More raping, more pillaging, more of the same.
4 words: 19 percent approval rating.
3 more words: worst president ever.
By the way, I hereby nominate Jon Stewart for the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Anyone second that motion?
CMINCA @ 12:
Who the hell are these 19 percenters? Martians?
CMINCA @ 12:
3 more..
Last President Ever?
IdiotShrub @ 13:
I second that emotion.
This is IMPORTANT!

Economic Code Red!!!
"Remember it happened over a long period, maybe way back to Carter, but the good news is we are going to handle it for you. TRUST ME, or I'll scare the hell out of you."
It's a race. Will McSame save his campaign before Bushy saves his presidency?
W forgot only one thing, but somebody remedied it yesterday.
I was channel surfing yesterday and came upon an "authoritative-type" woman who was saying that the perfect time for al Quaida to strike is when we are distracted by our economic problems, so we had to pass the President's package ASAP.
Huh, huh, I said President's package.
Hey stop rippin' on da' prez. We need to give some lovin' to Nancy Pelosi and her chums over in the capital building.
Bush "FEAR TERRORISTS FEAR FEAR!"
Nancy "YES SIR YES SIR YES SIR!!"
Is it just me...or has W gotten a little....Grayer in 5 years?
Bush's speech made me think of a ransom note..
'We have your economies held hostage.. gimme the money or it dies..'
Time to put the Moron on rails with a one-way ticket to Crawford, with his head hung in shame (assuming of course, that he has any), and pelted with rotten eggs all along the way. Thanks for 8 wasted years, Gee Dummy Butch.
Only the funny can spoon-feed us the truth now. Have things gotten so bad? Don't answer that.

I run FF 3.02 as well, but I just download and then replay rather than opening from here. Good luck...
God, those two speeches are more eerily similar than I even remembered. I knew they sounded similar in tone, but I didn't realize how much the wording was almost the same. This in itself should clue us in that what he's saying is most likely bull excrement. He wouldn't be that hyper dramatic if what he was saying was factual.
of course it's the same speech, Bush is the definition of a One Trick Pony.
IdiotShrub @ 14:
The Palin family.
The stench coming out of Washington is not to be believed and here is just one of a million credible reasons as to why this bail out for the rich and infamous should not take place under duress and time constraints.
First, he media incorrectly is labeling WaMu as a sub prime lender which is not true. WaMu was the Alt-A monster and those loans are worse then subprime because of the high LTV, no documetation features, and high loan amounts. Citi and Indy Mac were also big in Alt-A.
What is really interesting is that the Federal Reserve protection seeking JP Morgan found all the necessary liquidity to buy even more troubled WaMu. How is that for bail out? I thought they all had trouble with liquidity.... that is until they see a deal...
Add to the above fact that JP Morgan coughed up 138 billion 2 hours before Leahman Brothers had their bankruptcy filing time stamped by the court. The American people should be demanding that NO DEAL be signed off on until we the people know exactly how much money the remaining banks have on hand after a full and complete audit by the Comptroller of the Currency which is further verified by an independent accounting firm.
Again I ask, what is the bloody rush to get this completed by this weekend before the markets open? did we not hear the same cry last weekend? We're still here aren't we?
Well, I can answer that question. At 12:00 midnight Tuesday the 30th, the fiscal year ends and if the funds are not in place to cover the Federal Reserve and other entities, the Federal Reserve will no longer exist because as of this moment, they are bankrupt. But then miracles of miracles big daddy JP Morgan keeps coughing up billions for buyouts?
The American tax payer rightly demands answers before one thin dime of our current tax dollars and those well into the next century are paid. If that means that the Federal Reserve no longer exist that's fine with plenty of us because the only thing this private banking cartel has done in its nearly 100 year existence has been to act like a parasite sucking the life blood out of us and in turn our once great country.
Keep writing, faxing, calling or any other method used to communicate with your Senators and Representatives, but at all cost, keep the pressure up and never give up. If our founders had, we probably would be ruled today by a King. The present occupant of the White House might think he is, but I have a funny feeling we the people aren't ready for that nonsense.
Keep writing and calling. Make it clear that those who vote for this massive bailout on our backs will not have to worry about returning to their government jobs next year. Enough is enough.

No, mostly my in-laws.

Haggard was the word I was thinking, we have seen what the Presidency does to a man and folks can vote an already very physically damaged guy like McCain?
Does this mean we're all gonna fucking die (again)?

No problem here with FF upgrade ...
Why is the Daily Show the only program that actually examines the past ... ?
One senator or rep. was on tv this morning. I can't remember if he was a dem or a repub, but he said the calls coming into his office were 50/50. Half were saying no and the other half were saying, hell no.
IdiotShrub @ 14:
These are the people who have profited from this presidency. Or, the "I want a plain-spoken president I can have beer with" types.

Thanks.

He is right about one thing, this happened over a long period of time. Starting with Ronald Reagan, Milton Friedman, and Alan Greenspan. Trickle down economics. Free trade race to the bottom for wages. Billions for Iraq occupation and the military industrial complex. The transfer of billions and billions to the top %5 at the expense of the middle class just for starters.
CMINCA @ 40:
Yep, must suck to be shown up by a "fake news show whose lead in is a puppet making prank phone calls", huh Wolfie?
The amazing thing to me is how much Bush has aged in the last 5 years.
They've got martial law ready to go and the elections ready to cancel, but I don't think they'll do it for this truth, shown most clearly in this video:
Bush just wants to go home and get the hell out of the WH.
But he was a POW! Oh. Wait...
Wrong liar.
earl @ 36:
Because they aren't afraid to?

Obama's Lead Nearly Doubles In Today's Tracking Polls
By Eric Kleefeld - September 26, 2008, 1:17PM
Here's a wrap-up of the four major national tracking polls for today, containing the first full day of sampling since John McCain's pseudo-suspension -- and Barack Obama is extending his lead:
• Gallup: Obama 48%, McCain 45%, with a ±2% margin of error. Yesterday, the candidates were tied 46%-46%.
• Rasmussen: Obama 50%, McCain 45%, with a ±2% margin of error, compared to an Obama lead yesterday of 49%-46%.
• Hotline/Diageo: Obama 49%, McCain 42%, with a ±3.2% margin of error, compared to a 47%-43% Obama lead yesterday.
• Research 2000: Obama 48%, McCain 43%, with a ±3% margin of error. Yesterday, Obama was up 49%-43%.
Adding these polls together and weighting them by sample sizes, Obama is ahead by a margin of 48.9%-44.5%, almost double his margin from yesterday's 47.7%-45.3%.
Since John McCain began his quasi-suspension to deal with the economic crisis, we've had one new day of data for these three-day tracking polls. And that day doesn't appear to have treated him well.
IdiotShrub @ 14:
We have no reason to believe, if Martians do indeed exist, that they are fucking idiots.
And, of course, we have Condi admitting that Shrub and his minions sat around discussing the finer points of torture, and Alberto Gonzalez now saying that Wanton Boy himself directed him to go to John Ashcroft's hospital room in that famous intervention to try to get the attorney general to sign off on a torture memo.
Why aren't these people in jail?
I've never seen or heard a bigger loser than George Dumbya Bush. He's pathetic. And a thief and killer as well.
I swear Bush is an autotron with Chaneys heart. He seems so empty. His speeches are brief. When there is a crisis, he is nowhere to be seen. I can't wait for him to get out of office.

Hope we aren't doomed to repeat the last 8 years...
heck of a job Bushie ... heck of a job.
I hope this clip get attached to something with McCain saying some similar things and passed all around the Internet. I know the Networks wont have the balls to air this.

Too true. There was a female journalist on Countdown last night who spoke out, a bit, about Palin's ignorance and stupidity, but did so fearing the wrath of the mail she would receive today.
My god.. McCain is already running "McCain won the debate" ads!!!

Stewart rips to the truth. I just could not figure out why Stewart played softball when he had Tony Blair on? Stewart really played softball. Did not ask him about the Niger Documents , Downing Street Memo etc. come on Tony Blair is almost as guilty as Bush and Cheney for the deaths and destruction in Iraq.
Stewart asked Chris Matthews more hard driving questions than he asked Tony Blair when he had this once a lifetime opportunity.
stacy @ 56:
Where did you hear that garbage Stacy, could it be FOX?
Your so wrong I can't even comment further.
Stacy@56, Oh please! This is a result of DEREGULATION.
Alexdem @ 59:
A very good indicator of the regard that McSame has for facts and the "situation on the ground".
Why is the Daily Show the only program that actually examines the past … ?
Because, in the common parlance of the contemporary media, any member of the SCUM who doubts any statement by any official is presumed to have a bias against that official.
this has been part of the incredibly successful Rightard strategy of marginalizing the press, even those which can be relied upon to parrot the party line and stenograph the official stories.
the Daily Show, because it makes no pretense of being a "news" show (though all of its charm derives from the fact that it DOES pretend to be a news show) is relieved of those limitations.
It is so pathetic that we get more honest news from our comedians - Stewart, Colbert, Letterman - than from the members of the media. BRING BACK CRONKITE!
levelheaded moderate @ 23:
Not gray enough. The only gray he should be should be that provided by the mold covering his body in a pine box.

Who pulled 16 billion dollars out of WaMu and made the bank fail? Sorry, I just don't see the average Joe pulling out that much in cash transactions. Somebody rather some filthy rich somebody tanked that bank on purpose. I bet it has something to do with the bank that is going to take it over. Nice how people in the financial community are using this as an opportunity to make money and take over banks. I bet these people are friends of W.
stacy @ 56:

Off topic, but I think some of those guys who got fired for misspelling the CAVUTOs over at FOX must have been hired by CNN. Check out the "Ricky Ricardo" title of this one:

Iraq is doing better than the US and they're not even paying any money for the reconstruction back. (Not that they should.)
The good people of the USA have to pay for the war, for the reconstruction and the Wall Street crims while losing 4,000+ of their loved ones.. you all deserve some kind of Nobel prize. You must be a very stoic nation.

Now that their funding has dried up most Trolls have gone back to their "flipping the burger" positions. Alas, true kool aid drinkers like Stacy here, do their trolling for free!
I think that Stacy here is to the right wing trolls as the 10 yr old German boys fighting the Russian troops in 1945 were to the SS.

Left&Left @ 72:
Stacy if that is your real name. McCain is a member of the Keating 5. The man has already been caught red handed trying to stonewall investigations into crooked banking schemes. The crooked bankers on Wall Street need him now more than ever. The crooked bankers on Wall Street will be happy to know that at least one near sighted TOOL supports their cover-up man McCain.
CMINCA @ 58:
The View had a harder hitting interview with McCain then anything the MSM had done up to that point. What the heck has this country come to?

What in the world is this blather? Bush was pushing, pushing, pushing for homeownership in his ownership society. Glass-Steagall was obliterated under his watch, which a Republican controlled Congress. Is this post a joke? If so, it isn't funny or ironic.
Peter G @ 8:
yes, since C&L changed servers I have also had the same problem and it drives me nuts. Of course there also have been many that never worked at all when they first changed. I liked the older server better.
upchuck @ 71:
I'll admit that I don't know that much about the WaMu failure, other than it had been predicted for quite awhile that they would be the next bank to fail. That being said, are you sure that the money was pulled out? WaMu was a major player in these junk loans; it is possible that the loans were written down to fair market value and that the write-off was $16 billion. Either way, it is a travesty.
stacy @ 56:
Actually whenever boosh tried to make the case in State of the Union Addresses that the economy was better under him, despite news stories to the contrary, he would cite increased home ownerships.
The Republicans in the last 30 years in general and elevated in the last 7.5 stripped regulatory agencies of much of their mission and budget under the government is the problem mantra.
I think you're referring to the Bankruptcy "reform" laws where only corporations can declare bankruptcy and walk away from their debt. For the rest of us bankruptcy isn't an option, so whether they try to stay or walk away from their debts and their homes are foreclosed on them, thus precipitating the crisis we have at hand.
Left&Left @ 79:
Definitely, as proven by her revisionist history. A sad state of affairs. Truly. Such ignorance.
why is NO ONE questioning and looking into the ON-LINE pay bill OPERATION?
From the time the depositors order the bank to pay a bill ON-LINE, the bank debits the depositors account on a set date; BUT credits the amount into a CORPORATE or SUB-ACCOUNT until the custodian of this account is told to make the payments to the depositor's payee. This window of TIME where the transfered money is temporatily sits is being diverted; invested, gambled by the CEOs. When the wager (CEOs) lost the bet at WALL street; the bank's earnings is paid out of the bank's Revenue which in turn affects the BANKS over-all BALANCE SHEET.
This is SIMILAR to what was called "CHECK-KITTING" during pre-online, pre-ATM era. This WAS illegal.
This SUB-ACCOUNT is under the discretion of the bank's corporate OFFICE managed by the office of CEO's.
They CAN virtually control and slow down the payment transaction of MILLIONS of depositors and ON-LINE payors and DURING which the trustee can gamble these billions of dollars in Wall Street.
NO ONE SEEMS to make to DISCLOSE these highly RISKY banking activities or have done a careful OVERSIGHT of these ACTIVITIES.
This is MISAPPROPRIATION of the PUBLICS FUND and should be looked into by REGULATORS and the FBI. But we can not expect them to do this IF they (Regulators and our Governments) are complicit to this FINANCIAL SCHEME.
There are insider-watchdogs familiar with this QUESTIONABLE BANKING OPERATION; why aren't there anyone at the TOP racing hell about it? BECAUSE they themselves are the CULPRIT.
