Finally, ESPN has washed its hands of Curt Schilling. The former baseball star and analyst for the network had been suspended about six months ago for comparing Muslims to Nazis:
ESPN suspended Curt Schilling on Tuesday after the former All-Star pitcher, who is currently a baseball analyst for the network, posted a meme on Twitter that drew a comparison between extremist Muslims and Nazis.
The tweet, which was deleted by Schilling within minutes, contained a picture of Hitler that stated, “It’s said only 5-10% of Muslims are extremists. In 1940, only 7% of Germans were Nazis. How’d that go?” Schilling also wrote: “The math is staggering when you get to true #’s.”
Well, he didn't use the time off to reflect on his behavior and I guess couldn't help himself with his addiction to wingnut thinking. This resulted in Curt posting an anti-Transgender picture on Facebook, in response to the recent uproar in North Carolina over their heinous bathroom bill.
Deadspin found Schilling's response to the graphic kerfuffle he caused and replied with a Trumpian rant.
You frauds out there ranting and screaming about my ‘opinions’ (even if it isn’t) and comments are screaming for “tolerance” and “acceptance” while you refuse to do and be either.
YOU’RE the ones making it the issue. I don’t care, if you ask me about any of the topics it’s likely (much to the chagrin of many) I’ll answer with my opinion.
There are things I have deeply held beliefs in, things I have that are core to who I am, things I am passionate about. If you ask me about them it’s likely I’ll give you a passionate answer, whether you like that answer or not is completely up to you. I am not going to give you answers to make sure you like what I say, let the rest of the insecure world do that.
ESPN was not happy and responded in kind:
“ESPN is an inclusive company,” ESPN said in a statement. “Curt Schillinghas been advised that his conduct was unacceptable and his employment with ESPN has been terminated.”
Good riddance.
