This is all happening very fast, but reports of many shots are coming in on Twitter from Dallas, Texas, where two officers appear to have been shot by someone with a long gun, according to reports.
In this video, you hear many, many shots. It sounds like a full-scale shootout.

A slightly shorter video, also with what appears to be the sound of many gunshots:

CNN:
A witness who was at the protest told the station he heard multiple gunshots.
"Whoever was shooting had an assault rifle — and I know guns. The shots were in rapid succession," the witness said.
Texas is an open carry state, so it is possible that there are people at that protest with assault-style weapons legally.
I will update with more information as it develops. There is a live broadcast here. Also embedded below:
Here is a Facebook video, closer in:
Update 2; Four Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) officers were shot. One has died.
SWAT team negotiators are reported to be talking to the gunman.
More updates as they come.
Update 3: MSNBC reports 2 snipers, 10 officers shot, 3 officers dead.
Update 4: MSNBC now reports that the gunfire is continuing, and an 11th police officer has been injured. It is still a very fluid and active situation.
Update 5: Police have released a photo of a person of interest, which is in the photo at the top of this post.
Update 6: IMPORTANT: Video indicates that the identified "person of interest" was on the street walking around after the shooting. Further, others have reported that he gave the gun to police and it was not loaded. Check this video at 20 seconds or so.

I have removed the photo released by police and replaced it with a screen grab of him clearly on the street after the shooting.
Update 7: 4 officers dead, 7 injured.
Update 8: A suspect has been taken into custody by the SWAT team. The "person of interest" has turned himself into police (but from all evidence available appears to not have been any part of this).
