I love the quote, "Don't just hug a tree, make out with it".

Lawrence Wilkerson discusses Obama's Afghanistan Strategy Speech.

Part 1: "Obama's choice" pure politics

Part 2: America cannot be the hegemon of Western Asia

Wilkerson not only dissects Obama's speech, but also the situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and makes some excellent suggestions for the way forward.

Is he the last honorable intelligent educated humane articulate Republican standing?

.. wish there were more like him.

is pretty much real. Wilkerson does seem to be one of the few out there who consistently tells the truth about where we are, the motives of our leaders, and what will result if we don't change our ways.

I'm glad that Rachel Maddow has him on once in a while, but I wish he'd get more notice.....he knows what he's talking about. And, I especially like him because he has been confirming what I've been spouting for the past 10 years.!

Funny that the AP is trying to come off "objective" by suggesting both parties are lying about health care. A new gay Episcopal bishop gets elected. The Russkies adapted the capitalist model of the free market to decide housing codes. Slim Fast is recalled, because it makes you slim fast through vomiting and diarrhea. The V-Tech staff thought protecting the students from a gun-nut was a secondary priority. Drought forces L.A. to cut water consumption by 18%. A NJ judge stops Republicans from bringing back voter intimidation. The AP says "Won't somebody think of the rich?!" Eight hundred Californians got H1N1. Jurors are fine with injustice. Robert Reich explains where the jobs aren't. A UK university takes the side of the anti-global warming McCarthyists. The next generation of idiocrats.

This is a great article. I'd be very interested in everyones opinion on this:

And for anyone still following the Tiger Woods drama, here's a funny song for ya:

"The US has an army of 90,000 soldiers in Afghanistan and is spending $100bn a year, but has still been unable to defeat 20,000-25,000 Taliban who receive no pay at all." - Patrick Cockburn

reason the media are pro-war: Greed. Greed for power, control, wealth.

The Fourth Estate - the part necessary for balance in a democracy - has been dead for quite some time. Americans don't really get 'news' or 'journalism' any more, unless they go to the trouble to search for it (mainly on the Internet). Corporate/government controlled propaganda is mostly what's gobbled up every day from the TV - then chewed and swallowed. Without education and information, democracy is done.

Christmas '98 was the bleakest in my lifetime that was the year the Repugs impeached Clinton for receiving a blow job in the oval office.
The Repugs wrapped up their partisan act in late November and cast a pall over the entire holiday season.

...but all kinds of stuff. Movies here: http://www.pbsblog.com/index.html I'm watching a series of Hidden Histories with Terry Jones, one of the Pythons. Who would have thunk he'd become a major scholarly voice in medieval history and more? I have his book Who Murdered Chaucer? but haven't had time to read it yet.

I wish there could be a citizen's referendum to create a new amendment to the US Constitution allowing for votes of No Confidence, that could lead to a dissolution of government until another election is called.

I've been angry a lot lately, and I think part of it is that Obama showed himself just to be another lying politician. I knew he was just a politician, but not this shabby sort.

Years ago the ex and I were so disillusioned with the two candidates that we actually went out and printed a thousand t-shirts that had a ballot box with the two candidates names then the box marked for "None of the Above".

Maybe we could push for a State Initiative for California to have "None of the Above" as a choice, then when "None" won it would throw the Electoral College into a tailspin since no one would have the necessary 240 to win!

Something needs to be done.

Here's an interesting article I read the other night about why the American people are so complacent:

http://www.counterpunch.org/levine12042009.html

At least it looks like the "Anti-War" movement has been aroused out of it's slumber:

That none of the above could work if a certain percentage could lead to scrapping the choices and starting over.

I would suggest if a third of the votes say none of the above, that way it would in effect be a third party, without the messiness of a multi-party system.

It seems the primaries have been as corrupted as the old caucuses.
