Some stuff you can't make up!
Let's hear it for Morris Dancing! A Life with Bells on!!
Cleese is the coolest of human beings
My hubby (who's British) tells me that they're releasing a movie in the UK about Morris Dancing! However, they're not planning on releasing it in the USA. :( Boo!
I really liked this commercial. There's only 3 cuts in the whole thing. The director leaves Cleese alone and doesn't clutter it up with incessant cuts. Today, a 30 second spot like this would have a cut every few seconds.
And it's bloody hilarious.
More Jindal rants. Be careful when "looting" leftovers from Circuit City. L.A. is forced to release 4,000 non-violent offenders early, due to budget cuts. Freddie Mac plays the fox guarding the henhouse game. Be sure to make sure Barry sticks to his Iraq withdrawal due date. Though we could use it sooner... Over 83,000 cases of cholera with over 3,800 dead in Zimbabwe. When it comes to the Brit equivalent of the Pentagon Papers, Brown thinks he's Nixon. Mardi Gras gets ruined by gun nuts. How dare the head of the Kurdish minority in Turkey demand human rights?! If you want less abortions, family planning is the cure. Palin's willing to throw Murkowski under the bus to defend her latest shopping spree. Health care costs are expected to go up by $8,000 per person. The economy's so bad, a Taiwanese ex-con asks police to send him back to prison.
$8000 a year per person is just an amazing amount of money. For a family of 4 that would $32,000 a year in healthcare costs alone.
I'm a low-income person and I take in only about $ 12,000 (CDN) a year. I can't imagine anyone having to pay $ 8000 for healthcare.
"What we desire for ourselves we wish for all." Here's hoping Americans get healthcare reform soon.
Soon we (America) will get to rebuild Gaza to the tune of a billion dollars. Both of these are beginning to look like lying/reneging on the part of the president.
Do you have any links? Thanks :-)
Study the symptoms not the virus...
The 900 billion is Hillary's gift to gaza and was leaked on Algezerra yesterday. The 50,000 troops left in Iraq was a composite of Keith Olbermann, Obama's own words, and loose ends derived from the latest Washington Post, and Truthout.org. I don't know Bill Hicks so that might have been the source of the rumor on Iraq.
You mean 900 Million too Gaza?

Here is another link for the Iraq troop levels to be maintained at 30,000 to 50,000 indefinitely: http://politics.theatlantic.com/2009/02/break...
"Obama expects to leave a large contingent of troops in Iraq, between 30,000 and 50,000 troops, after August, 2010 to advise and train Iraqi security forces and to protect U.S. interests, according to two administration officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because the plan has not been made public."
"The withdrawal of American forces is set to be completed by December 2011, the period by which the U.S. agreed with Iraq to remove all troops." Thanks

I want to believe Bill Hicks was wrong.
Um, isn't Bill Hicks kind of dead?
seems full of shit to me.
Some stuff you can't make up!
Rush, BillO, Savage, Hannity and all the rest of the right wingnuts blame the housing crises on all the lowerr class, less educated people who outsmarted some of the best educated people in the country. I mean they outsmarted lawyers, bankers, CEOs and regulators who are the best educated people in the world. Most of them went to the best universities in the world. All I can say is "WOW."
"they outsmarted lawyers, bankers, CEOs and regulators who are the best educated people in the world"
And now Obama has put them in charge of the government
Is there a lot America doesn't know about Bush torture policies? There is, says Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse. "This is going to be big."

We're going to find out that Bush ITSELF ordered TORTURE so IT could have IT's own private library of TORTURE DVD's. IT (not human -sociopathic) would divide up the sexual content torture, man on man, etc. IT wants to put it all in the BUSH LIBRARY, for a creature that can't read, yet!!!! That's why IT needed ITS own private colledtion of torture de jour. TWISTED!!! CRAZY!!! LITTLE SOCIOPATH.
That's why they hate the motherfucker. The man can talk.
but we already knew obama could talk; it's time for ACTION.

Just saw a video on Yahoo News of a Glenn Beck program discussing the 'Bubba Effect'.. I found it a chillingly vieled call for insurrection and civil war.. Just incredible!
"Hold on.. We're in for a bumpy ride"
The feeling of insecurity is increasing. Obama's "state of the union" address" took on an ethereal feel of 'let them eat cake', so there could be a systemic resistance building. Some of us are looking to ourselves, neighbors, and relatives for security, and are lowering our tolerance of uninvited guests. Waco and Ruby Ridge have not been forgotten. Americans are not likely to slip into a third world existence easily. I'd say, be on your best behavior when roaming around in areas you haven't asked for permission to use in advance. When in doubt, smile a lot....it tends to calm the natives!
Glenn Beck is making threats against the US government?
That seems to be what you are getting at.

Murdoch wants to "turn around" the NY times into a right-wing rag. He would probably also lay off half the staff, slash local/regional reporting, and fill the pages with advertising and tabloid-style reporting.

As I recall, the Compaq 386 was the first clone of the IBM PC, setting off the "clone wars."
If they had things like DMCA back them we would still be using either a IBM, Apple, or hey, Amiga. The positive side would be that MS would still be a little software shop.
It's called vision and Gates got caught off guard with Netscape to for awhile, the damn nerd...:-) I myself don't care for the proprietary mindset.
Study the symptoms not the virus...
No, not the first. But Compaq was considered the most successful. The 386 was two generations beyond the 8086 that was the IBM PC, and there were many, many clones in between.
until they got acquired by a printer company. :-)
Study the symptoms not the virus...
I have an IBM 8088 XT on a desk in my office as an antique. It still boots. And though it has run out of ink, I have an IBM branded Epson 8x8 Dot-Matrix printer right next to it. It's one of my prized possessions left over from that era.
I don't how Epson got their ass kicked by HP though? The real floppy 5.25 and all... :-)
Study the symptoms not the virus...
IBM has gotten their ass handed to them when it comes to hardware as well. They hardly make computers anymore. Now they're mostly a SOA service company.
But Compaq's initial business model was around being the first company to reverse engineer the IBM bios.
They did in fact enable the whole IBM-compatible market.
I get a kick out the whole PC history thing - going back to Babbage. I don't know why, maybe just an interesting offshoot of the programming I do.
Columbia Data Products was the first clone of the IBM BIOS. Compaq did have a good business model, with full PC-DOS vs MS-DOS compatibility (along with the reversed engineered BIOS).
Interesting aside - The IBM PC actually had three operating systems to choose from when it was released. DOS, CP/M and a weird in-house system written by IBM with ZERO software (I don't know if that even had a name. I would love to get a copy though). And Gates didn't start Microsoft with MS-DOS that he licensed to IBM, it was his BASIC interpreter (the default boot OS in the BIOS) which was his first IBM contract.

Food Stamps in Hard Times
Mayor Michael Bloomberg's food-relief policy makes little sense, and, by limiting eligibility, the city reduces the amount of money it receives from Washington.

and 90's. My helper would tell me many people would sell their food stamps for 50,60 or 70 cents on the dollar so they could get drugs, smokes or booze. I'm not sure if their still able to do that though, because I think they use a credit/debit type card system now?
People gotta eat, I just hope they can't scam the system. In ending that article said, "We can understand the mayor’s ideal of “work, not welfare,” but this is not a time to be stingy with food, especially if Washington is picking up the tab."
"especially if Washington is picking up the tab." :-/
Study the symptoms not the virus...
Always a way to scam the system, if that's what you want to do. What they're doing now is buying food for others with their debit cards, and having those who end up with the food pay them 50,60,70 cents on the dollar in cash.
They gotta eat sometime though. I would not trade places with them though, it's a sad situation. :-(

Revising unemployment programs involves wresting power from clueless Southern governors - http://www.buzzflash.com/articles/analysis/639
The Southern governors, who are striving for political points, want to starve their unemployment compensation programs. But these are federal programs, and the problem of the unemployment programs is not too much money, but too little money. States rights be damned; as Americans, we need help in times of crisis. One way out is to take away the power from governors to screw over their citizens.

Social and environmental echoes are still reverberating as well. Platt said that still bubbling up to the surface are instances of suicide, bankruptcy and divorce. But while debt forgiveness, reinvestment and legal settlements can work to ameliorate economic pain, the answers are much more elusive when it comes to the physical and mental landscape of the area hit by the Exxon Valdez two decades ago.

Iraq still "needs" 30,000 to 50,000 troops past the year 2011 "...to protect U.S. interests". I'm assuming that monstrous embassy isn't going anywhere soon.
it's up to us to keep doing what we've been doing -keep reminding everyone what this bull$#!+ is really all about.
afghanistan? let's talk about the pipeline, let's post pictures of soldiers protecting poppy fields.
iraq? keep reminding everyone about the giant embassy, and the 14+ military bases.

MIT Students Develop Hydraulic Energy-Generating Shock Absorbers
13 February 2009
Snip - A team of MIT undergraduate students has invented a shock absorber that harnesses energy from small bumps in the road, generating electricity while it smoothes the ride more effectively than conventional shocks. MIT Senior Shakeel Avadhany and his teammates say they can produce up to a 10% improvement in overall vehicle fuel efficiency by using the regenerative shock absorbers.
