If I could remove one word from the lexicons of the Sunday Morning News Shows and other corporate media outlets, it would be "EXCLUSIVE!" There is nothing exclusive about having John McCain on your show for the upteenth time, David Gregory. And if you're trying to convince me that it's some sort of "catch" to get him on any specific Sunday, pull my other finger. I mean, leg.

They're all in front of the cameras to protect corporatism, to shill for their big donors and their friendly lobbyists. What's new about that? Political talk on Sunday does little else, with some exceptions. It's "Stay the Course" Sunday. If there are alternative views, they are always in the minority and are programming props for the corporatists to show that they can and do prevail.

If you were writing an episode of a television melodrama wouldn't you be inclined to follow convention and include "a lovable yet irascible curmudgeon of a boss" to tell it like it is? McCain is there to play Lou Grant but because the shows are "unscripted" they require predictable characters that conform to specific character prototypes. Who's become more predictable than the old maverick himself?.

I really could not think of one. But, I did. There is just something about politics, coffee, and Sunday morning that has been a habit for many years. Seeing Wallace and Huckabee bash Obama over the economy, jobs, and the Gulf - somehow the President should have fixed all of that by now, even though he inherited two of those problems and the last was not his fault...and Bush couldn't win his wars, or even come close, in almost the entire length of his administration.
I've seen some stuff, man. And some thangs...
these shows, although 99% of the time make me throw things at the screen and scream foul language over my Sunday Morning paper, are just better than watching THE ENDLESS SPORTS SHOWS AND THE FAWNING, SCREAMING, PONTIFICATING SPORTS ANNOUNCERS THAT ACCOMPANY THEM.
But, OTOH, I guess that pretty much describes the Sunday Morning Political theater.

What in the hell is Gregory talking about? The Taliban recruits all the time. McCain agrees and says Gregory makes a good point. No he doesn't. The only point these two have is on the top of their heads.

He says an Afghan farmer was asked about the Taliban vs the Afghan security forces. The farmer said "'the Taliban was pretty mean to us. But when the Afghan security forces moved in, the first thing they did was rape our sons.' The problem is not the Taliban. They are a symptom. Our real problem is the Afghan government."

Tropical depression Alex as it moves across the Yucatan.
Last night Alex was a tropical storm. And has since been downgraded.
Winds hit the Yucatan and Belize around 60mph last night and yesterday. The question is, what will Alex do now?
I think it will stay small and go up into eastern Mexico and Texas.
But, ya never know with these things. It might grow when it hits the warmer waters.

Since both Sister Sarah and President Obama have advised us to pray for a miracle to solve all our problems in the Gulf, God has granted their wish and Hurricane Alex is going to blow all the oil off the surface of the water and gather it into a water spout and deposit it all in Texas where industrious employees of BP are all lined up on the ground with empty barrels to receive it, sell it, and make more billions in profits so all the shareholders can receive tons of cash in profits. The problem with replacing Gregory with Maddow is that we would lose 5 hours a week of the Maddow Political Science class on MSNBC. That class is worth as much as you would pay to go to any University for that subject.

I adore Maddow, but she is at her best when she is making a point and reporting on an investigation, not conducting interviews.
She is better suited as a guest commentator on MtP than as host.

Thank goodness they plugged the hole in the Gulf and no more oil is escaping so no one had to talk about it today and they could move on to more important matters.

Tropical depression Alex if forecast to regain strength back to hurricane status over the gulf. Projections have Alex going into eastern Mexico and south eastern Texas. Although there stands a small chance that Alex will move out over the gulf more and head in a more easterly direction, the chance is small.

Did my ears deceive me? While talking about the difference between how he U.S. views the global recession vs the prism of how Germany views things.
Will says we view the crisis through the prism of the 1930's Depression. Germany views the crisis through the hyper-inflation that led to the fall of the Bynmar (sp?) Republic. Instead, he cites the cause as "keeping interest rates too low for too long, creating the real estate bubble" that led to the crisis on Wall Street.
He didn't mention Bush by name, but it is an acknowledgment of when and under whose Administration the problem was created.

and Bill Kristol is there talking about how under control Canada's Debt problem is and how good there economy is. Of course if there had been a liberal on the panel they would have immediately pointed out that single-payer not for profit health care and well regulated banks are the keys for Canada's great economy right now. No one losing their homes due to medical bills and therefore avoiding much of the foreclosure risk for families. Yes Please!!!

During his interview on TW, Leon Panetta admitted that there are "between 50-100 members of al Qaeda still inside Afghanistan".
That puts the ratio of U.S. troops to AQ members at 1000:1.
