How does Ann Coulter, appearing on Gerald Rivera's Fox show last night, react to President Obama's speech at Notre Dame? Why, by attacking the faith of the students who attended and applauded, and especially that of Notre Dame administrators, of course:

Coulter: I don't think he was speaking to people who have any objections to abortion. I think more interesting than watching Obama give a speech for graduation, um, they should have had the administrators of Notre Dame onstage taking a polygraph test on whether they believe in God.

Um, apparently being a professor at a chic Catholic university is a good gig, and you're respected, and you get paid well. But no, I don't believe these people are serious, genuine, practicing Catholics.

Quoth the woman who has yet to have ever declared herself a practicing member of any faith, let alone Catholicism. She eagerly declares herself a Christian, while blithely uttering such Christian remarks as: "Those few abortionists were shot, or, depending on your point of view, had a procedure with a rifle performed on them. I’m not justifying it, but I do understand how it happened."

But Kirsten Powers -- herself a pro-life Democrat -- points out how crass Coulter's hypocrisy is about all this by noting that Catholics are every bit as opposed to the death penalty as they are to abortion. Coulter -- herself a fan of the death penalty -- erupts, interrupts, and tries to claim (sans evidence, as usual) that Catholics are much much much more anti-abortion than they are anti-death-penalty.

This is why Coulter doesn't go on shows very often where her co-conversants aren't friendly. She doesn't do well when challenged directly.

Boy did she get all bent out of shape.

She really did.

is a first water bicycle seat sniffer.

Thin like a wire coathanger? Coulter is as thin as her arguments.

This evil skank's 15 minutes ended some time ago.
Her schitck of spewing outrageous and inflammatory drivel to get attention and to outrage normal thinking citizens no longer has the same effect that it once did.
It's tired, it's old, it's redundant and it's become irrelevant to most Americans.

because the stupid cvnt gets destroyed in like a minute by anyone.
she's so completely ridiculous it's hard to believe.

Re=Thugs'll always have a use for her worthless, hypocritical, hateful ass. When they need her they pull her out of mothballs, blow off the dust and prop her up in front of the friendly cameras.

Like Rachel Maddow. Did you know Keith Olbermann called her the, "World's Best Pinch-Hitter". But I wonder why she doesn't consider herself an Obama supporter? She needs to come out of the closet and admit it.

The Catholic Church is much more anti-abortion than it is anti-death penalty. The Church DOES allow the death penalty, but discourages its use strongly. One can be a death penalty prosecutor, warden, executioner, etc., and remain a Catholic in good standing. One can advocate for the expansion of the death penalty, without sin and without ecclesiastical penalty.

Compare this to the excommunication latae sententiae (automatic, without further procedure) for all Roman Rite Catholics for even assisting indirectly in the procurement or administration of an abortion. For a long time, only a bishop could forgive the "reserved sin" of an abortion and this is true still in some of the Eastern Catholic Churches (e.g. Byzantine, Melkite, etc.)

Coulter was dead-on right, though clumsy in her delivery and smug as always in tone.

The Catholic Church actively campaigns against the death penalty, see:

The Death Penalty:
Why the Church Speaks a Countercultural Message

and

Catholic Bishops: Neither Retribution Nor Deterrence Justify Death Penalty

Also, latae sententiae has some limitations, see:

"To actually incur the excommunication one must know that it is an excommunicable offense at the time of the abortion. Canon 1323 provides that the following do not incur a sanction, those who are not yet 16, are unaware of a law, do not advert to it or are in error about its scope, were forced or had an unforeseeable accident, acted out of grave fear, or who lacked the use of reason (except culpably, as by drunkenness). Thus a woman forced by an abusive husband to have an abortion would not incur an excommunication, for instance, whereas someone culpably under the influence of drugs or alcohol would (canon 1325)."

Just sayin.

"The Catholic Church actively campaigns against the death penalty"

I grew up Catholic, sent my kids to a Catholic school (it was the only school that had before and after day care back then) and I can tell you that the VAST majority of the Catholics I knew openly supported the death penalty and advocated it's use.

The plural of "anecdote" is not "facts".
Recent polls show that 52% of Catholics oppose the death penalty. The bishops very strongly oppose the death penalty and yes, quite often actively campaign against it.

In fact, on at least one occasion, a Pope has directly appealed to a governor of Missouri to stop an execution. Pope John Paul II personally appealed to Gov. Mel Carnahan on the behalf of Darrell Mease. (Not successful.) And there are bishops that regularly campaign and protest, at least around here.

It's the media that focuses a lot more on the Church's anti-abortion position than it does on its anti-death penalty position.

It makes for a much more interesting... "debate".

Coulter as usual, condescending and self-righteous, sounds ignorant and ill-informed, more interested in shock value than anything else. But just watch how flustered she gets when challenged! This broad has some serious psycho traits.

I was having a good night too. I should have known better than to watch this trash. Mann Coulter is utterly worthless.

-P.S. Let's give a tip of the hat to Shuttle Atlantis' crew for knocking it out of the park on their very dangerous mission. Well done, and get home safely:
http://yellingatthemoon.com/2009/05/18/hubble...

Her (his) adams apple is so prominent in that clip. How long before the story breaks that (M)ann Coulter is post-op?

Twist Powers' words into "All Christians are hypocrites."

And what kind of a mind even contemplates the idea of polygraph tests for faculty about belief in god? She has the moral certainty of a fourth-grade bully.

That's insulting to fourth-graders!

;)

I hate to keep harping on it...but there is NO such thing a "pro-life" group. Pretty much everyone, except the suicidal, is "pro-life". "Pro-life" is something this group came up with so they wouldn't be shown what they are..."anti-choice". And that everyone that didn't share their view is "pro-death", "anti-life" or "pro-abortion".

Every time you use the term, you just buy into the right-wing's meme.

The rethugs are so upset to think that any girl would consider or choose an abortion.

After you are born? Too fucking bad.

That is why they are pro birth not pro life

I prefer to call them "pro-fetus" because these people have no problem letting 18 year olds go to war based on a lie and getting blown to bits or maimed for life. They only want to dictate what a woman chooses to do with her womb and its none of their business. If they don't choose to have an abortion that's fine, but don't tell any other woman what she can or cannot do with her own body.

Ann Coulter is one of the best arguments for retroactive abortion you're ever likely to find.

in mid-conversation trying to remember which of the talking points that she rehearsed in front of her mirror this morning she should throw in.

There are two women I won't give one second to my beautiful mind. They are Nancy Grace and Ann Coulter.

In my dictionary, under the word "bitch", I find illustrations of Annie & Nancy.

I'm sure there are some others, but I have already given these broads more than 10 seconds of my precious time.

.

Hey now. There are a LOT of sweet, lovable, fiercely protective female dogs that REALLY resent that comparison!

I am so sorry to slander such true lovely four-legged ladies. I hope they will wag their tails for my forgiveness.

On second thought, Annie & Nancy could use a water bowl and obedience school. Hold them back from the fire hydrants for god sakes!

...child molester in this particular comparison. :-/ Though that's what happens when ya get a an unreasoned mind, firing on one to many brain cells then their use to. It does show where her minds at though!

Will wonders never cease?

There are plenty of practicing Catholics that would like to know that Ann doesn't use any type of Contraception, or for that matter, have sex outside of marriage. Ann must be celibate since she is unmarried, of course, in the eyes of the Church because that is also a sin.

If Ann uses contraception, then in the eyes of many practicing Catholics, she is also guilty of that which she criticizes since many feel that the use of contraception is tantamount to abortion.

Just the thought of that thing having sex made me throw up in my mouth.

Is Ann on Heroin.

She's jumping around like an addict.

I think it's actually meth that she is on, jumping around, talking real fast, and skinny as a skeleton.

Yep

Heroin would make her slow and dull.

I had her pegged as a meth head years ago-my cop buddy said if he were to ever pull her over, his training would immediately alert him to the probability that she was a tweeker, and he'd waste no time in calling for back-up.

is a result of over-botoxification. She's actually about 80 years old.

I think "her" estrogen dosage is out of balance.

From what I gather, Catholics are opposed to both the death penalty and abortion but are opposed to abortion much more strenuously. I'm not 100% sure that the hypocrisy charge is apt. Anyway, the hypocrisy charge is a weird one to level against people who have irrational beliefs. Often consistency is the last thing you want from them. (Really, what's better, the pharmacist for life who acts against his own conscience to help his own kid or pharmacist for life who won't even act against his own (misguided) conscience to help out his own kid? They both seem pretty confused to me, but at least one is a softy.)

Of course, the Catholics are also opposed to unjust wars and the torturing of prisoners, so you might think that at some point Bush's score would start to look worse than Obama's. (Also, I'm pretty sure that Obama hasn't ordered any abortions as Commander in Chief so that should count for something.)

Ann was wrong about one thing worth mentioning. Notre Dame doesn't require their faculty to be Catholic. I'm sure that Ann would be disappointed to learn that.

Since the Church is concerned with morality, which is a matter of conscience, rather than simply actions, it's a little more complicated than being pro- or anti- these things.
Killing is prohibited. However, self-defense and defense of others is permitted. The intent (the important part to the Church) should never be to kill. However, if the death of someone is the only way to achieve justified defense, it is regrettable but morally permitted. So in a developed country like ours, capital punishment is not morally justifiable since we have the ability to imprison dangerous people. However, an Arabian nomadic goat herding tribe might be justified in capital punishment since they cannot render a determined killer harmless without killing him. Similarly, abortion is never permitted but medical procedures to save the life of a pregnant woman are. The intent (again, the most important thing when speaking of morality) going in should not be to kill the fetus but to save the mother's life. If there is any way to keep the fetus alive and developing after extraction, it should be done. If not, it is regrettable. Just war theory is also based on the idea that aggression should be stopped but lethal force should be the absolute last resort.

OTOH, torture of prisoners (and anyone) is never permissable.

I don't normally comment on mythology, but how can there be talk of "nuance" when the quote is "Thou Shalt Not Kill"? Christian and pseudo-christian people and non-christian interpret the way they like. That's why some cults won't cut their hair, some won't drink, some wont gamble, etc. This makes the original document an interesting but quite useless pile of paper.

Most historians and scholars believe that the correct translation is not "Thou shalt not kill," but is "thou shalt not commit murder."

I never understood the "teachings" of the Church on reproduction. They are against abortion but also against birth control. How the hell is an unwanted pregnancy to be avoided if you can't avoid it in the first place. The traditional "rythme" method is great.......that's how I got my first two kids.

"Ann Coulter: Slander"
"Ann Coulter: Treason"
"Ann Coulter: Godless"
"Ann Coulter: Guilty"

.

She's the Queen of Projection, aye.

.

She is a closet case. Period.

It's such a shame people have to even consider anything that comes out of this clown's mouth as relevant. I surely don't and in years I haven't commented on a Coulter thread, I'm just bored.

It's true that Catholics are much more visibly anti-abortion than anti-death-penalty, but that has to do with a combination of media coverage and planned action/protest. Do almost any kind of mainstream media content analysis. I guarantee it will show such a trend.

However, that marks a difference between what her evil majesty was first arguing, which was more in line with an ancient interpretation of Catholic scripture, and the current state of living Catholicism.

You don't see a whole lot of Catholics out there protesting against the war (or those who kill civilians in war) in the media, do you? Neither does Ann, but she just goes by that... at first. With her selective perception, she sees what she wants -- and only that.

Convenient change of premise for an argument she's so wound up in that she can't even tell she altered her foundation so widely.

What do you expect? It's Ann Coulter.

Um

No, actually it isn't true. They may have become so over the last few years, but Catholics have demonstrated against the death penalty publicly. They're regular picketers at prisons when someone is going to be executed. Remember Sister Helen Prejean? She wasn't the only one.

Sounds as though we're in agreement. Besides, much of what I said was about the coverage, not the actions, per se. Much more media action on the abortion issue.

So, um, yeah.

So a fertilized ovum is really a baby sleeping quietly in it's mother's womb?

And that ovum has MORE of a right to live than a 2 year old Iraqi child sleeping quietly in it's mother's bed?

I've had that argument with a lot of anti-choice people.

appearing on Gerald Rivera's Fox show last night

I take it you meant Geraldo Rivera's show?

She doesn't do well when challenged directly

I believe that's a requirement of TV pundits, actually. NONE of them do well when they're aren't surrounded by toadies.

...

Don't need to watch this idiot. However, I love that screen cap. You can see the short circuit.

(chuckling) I thought the same thing! You can see it in her eyes, it's about to blow.

No doubt! Her eyes tell the story so I won't have to watch this drivel.

adam's apple or an ann's apple?

Want to make sure I understand this. Coulter talks about an "innocent baby sleeping in its mother's womb being murdered by abortion."

Well if we follow that logic then their GOD is one major mass murderer considering the number of miscarriages and spontaneous abortions HE "allows" those poor innocents to suffer.

And just in case anybody thinks about responding with the "But that's GODS will" nonsense, perhaps in your or their belief system it is, just don't try and shove that load down anybody else's throat.

A woman has the right to decide what happens to her body. Period, end of argument. I may not like it, you may not like it. We all need to get over it, unless we happen to be the owner of said body.

Otherwise everybody just needs to butt out and mind our own freakin' business.

...to say anything nice, kind, or complimentary about Coulter. After seeing or hearing her, I always feel like I need to shower. That's why I avoid her like the plague (I don't want to waste water.).

didn't have her facts exactly lined up. If she had, she'd have been able to directly refute that lying crackpot Ann Coulter's assertion that there are levels of opposition. The Catholic church considers both capital punishment and abortion to be murder, and immoral. They are equivalently wrong, both are mortal sins.

Liz Cheney saying that her father had only 3 people tortured.

few things piss me off more than highly educated people mocking education and educators....

its like rock stars singing about how miserable their lives are or supermodels bitching about their eating disorders...as long as they make sick amounts of money, their problems just arent real to me....

religion, what a fucking joke...

dear god, please protect me from those who believe in you.

.

.

Dear Ann,
Some advice: Trade in that fake outrage for some fake boobs...
... 'Cause we all know that they will get you farther in life than that fake outrage ever has, or will.

.

Just a lunatic!
I cannot stomach this lying woman.
republicanism is a mental illness!

Well that's okay, let conservatives/Rethugs like Coulter go ahead and insult a broad swath of Catholics. See the GOP tent get tinier and tinier and tinier. A good friend of mine at work is Catholic. She personally opposes abortion, but believes women should retain their right to choose. She's also a huge Obama supporter. Sadly, conservatives have also turned into an anti-intellectual group.

I reached my day's allotment of Coultercrap after two minutes. What an annoying woman! She's like a blonde Bachmann.

"sheek college" lmao

Look at the expression on Ann's face in that screen capture -- like a rabbit caught in the headlights of an oncoming car.

Can't say that I have any sympathy for her -- the Coulter-geist is one person who, in my honest opinion, probably deserves to have at least a little schadenfreude thrown her way.

how could I have not seen it.

The emaciated appearance, pale skin, disoriented thinking...it's quite clear that Coultergeist is the reservoir of nourishment for the vampire, Dick Cheney.

ann before she puts her wig on:

http://www.andyatthemovies.com/wp-content/upl...

Start off with outrageous and unfounded insults, and end up with the overly defensive "how dare you offend me with facts". Anne, even the sick, hypocritical Conservatives think you're a crazy bitch.

BTW Anne,
The skinny bitch look is also tired. That shit is only appealing to
the fellows of the pencil dick persuasion, and or with Junior High School, "Catch a Predator" fantasies.

Screeching about faux Catholics at Notre Dame. Shocking. If Notre Dame thought it would bring them a national championship in football, they would sign the devil, himself, to coach the team.

If coulter doesn't know that, she's even dumber than I give her credit for.

But DAAAAAYUM....she looks emaciated. That woman needs some gravy!
50 cc's of pork gravy, STAT!

I wonder what she thought of Southpark's carpet-licking episode?

It appears they are both opposed by the Church:

From a Catholic prolife site:

Today, in fact, as a consequence of the possibilities which the state has for effectively preventing crime, by rendering one who has committed an offense incapable of doing harm without definitively taking away from him the possibility of redeeming himself - the cases in which the execution of the offender is an absolute necessity are very rare, if not practically nonexistent.

http://www.priestsforlife.org/magisterium/ind...

I would think the church leaders would oppose Bush as well as Obama. Whether there is some difference in degree between the prohibition isn't really the point: both are prohibited, and both are life and death issues. As to the moral standing of each: Obama has never performed (or to anyone's knowledge) encouraged an abortion, but Bush presided over a ghastly number of executions, some of innocents. To justify NO response to Bush from the church leaders is ludricrious.

But the real absurdity is the media. Not only is Coulter a crackpot, she has no religious credentials. She isn't Catholic. She doesn't kow anything about the teachings of the Catholic church. So WHY is she on Geraldo? Instead of two blonde females who have no specialized knowledge on this topic, why aren't seeing two priests who find themselves on different sides of the issue?

I'm glad to see Coulter so visibly flustered when confronted with clear, steady opposition. But Coulter herself is increasingly irrelevant. We will have to live with the know-nothing media long after Coulter is gone.

)O(

The Catholic church has this whole diginity of life teaching opposing not just abortion, and the death penalty, but stem cell research, embryo implantation, surrogate motherhood etc.

In other words, it's more dignified to breed like animals.

Oh, and ann, she pulls off that look better:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpTjtK9t-vA

does a great job of calmly making her point.

I think a good tack to take against Coulter when she starts ranting is, "Why are you shouting, Ann? There's no need to shout unless your facts don't speak for themselves."

It's so entertaining, hilarious and so easy when Coulter gets slapped down like the dirty, smelly, Reslug whore she is. What rock did she climb out from beneath lately?

Ann isn't Catholic and has no idea what she is talking about. Catholics rarely if ever refer to themselves as Christians but as Catholics (we are distinct from Protestants dontcha know). She doesn't have that mortal venial sin thing down either. Murder is mortal sin no doubt. There may be a difference as to excommunication or not but not the gravity of the sin. Ann, we'll decide who is and who is not Catholic. You can talk all you want about Christians. You are an outside and way out of your league.

he's just revealed his girlfriend is pregnant. BTW, he's still married, too.

It's Ok if you are opus dei. It's also ok because Mel is a man and anti abortion. That's all they care about.

I believe she's one of those christians that believe that Catholics are not real christians. I've run into a few of these folks in some pentacostall/evangelical groups. She is basically saying here that these are not "real" christians.

And let's not forget that Catholics distinguish themselves from Protestants. I am amazed at Pentacostal Catholics. It's so not Catholic. I think they want to go over to the dark side but just can't break with the Church ;.)

Your 100% correct. The Baptist and Evangelicals teach from their pulpits that Catholics ARE LOST SOULS as they worship statues and not Christ. Actually, the Southern Baptist believes anyone other than Southern Baptist are sinners and have not hope. They TOLLERATE the evangelicals because they need there votes, and when they are not around the Baptist (like Coulter) mock the Evangelicals because they believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirt with the evidence of speakling in unknown toungues.

John Hagee, who endorces McCain is Evangelical Assembly of God, just like Palin and had to apologize for calling Catholics "WHORES"...from his pulpit no less...and on international TV.

Dr Don Wilton, Pastor of the 1st Baptist Church of Spratanburg, S.C. delivered a Sunday morning sermon on his international tv show (while he was President of the Southern Baptist Convention) and preached, "The Republican Party is the party of Christian American and President George Bush is GOD'S MAN OF THE HOUR"

All of these nut job hypocrites preach it and believe it...including Coulter

Ann has about as much first hand knowledge of Christianity as I do of menstrual cramps.

Why doesn't Coulter have any kids? Assuming she could find someone willing to to umm.. donate, you would think someone so concerned about birth control would have a flock of the little darlings.

I realize it's only May, but I'd like to nominate this shot of Ann as the best screen capture of C&L for 2009 now.

Ann needs to discuss plagiarism with Maureen Dowd and how she stole Andrew Dice Clay's delivery years ago.

and will say it again. why is c and l so apt to give this despicable person coulter any press at all. skip it. if we need to we can read it elsewhere or hopefully, the article will be nowhere found. she thrives on press. let her die the slow agonyzing death of anonymity and obscurity...unless c and l you are so anxious to latch onto a sure-fire pot boiler guaranteed to bring readership and that she is... because she is so hated.

By law the Governor, including Bush, can not pardon or Commute the sentence of anyone convicted of a Capital Crime and sentenced to death without a Recommendation from the Texas Department of Pardons and Paroles.

The Governor of Texas can postpone an execution 30 days only one time. Other than that; he has no control!

Governors of Texas Bush, Perry, Republican or Democrat in the state of Texas can not, themselves alone, stop anyone from being executed.

It's the LAW!

)O(

That is so, however, they run on their death penalty record. I remember when Ann Richards was running against Jim Mattox, Mark White and Clayton Williams.

)O(

And boosh needn't have made fun of Karla Faye Tucker.

Try to avoid watching her interviews. I just find it in bad taste to make fun of retarded people on national TV. Coulter on TV is like a freak show where the freaks don't know they're just being made fun of and everyone is laughing at them.

)O(

ann looks like she just got punked in the ass.

the only God the right-wingers follow is the one mentioned on their money. And they only use the bible as ways to attack other people.

I would love to see them apply Mann Coulter's "lie dectector test" to see which members of the christian right actualy believe in the God who they preach to everyone else. - I know the number is small, but I bet it's even smaller then any of us would ever guess. Even if we guess Zero Percent, I bet it's even smaller then that!

but now she is just turning into a filthy repulsive menopausal-aged spinster hag.

Please go away Man Coultergeist.

There is nothing irrational about being anti-abortion and pro-death penalty if one believes an embryo has the right to life. An embryo is innocent and a murderer is not. What IS irrational is the belief that killing an embryo is murder. Pro-choice people need to stand up and defend their belief that human embryo’s do not have the right to life within the body of a person. This is a highly ethical point of view that needs to be addressed much more often when discussing abortion.

Speaking of ethics; a reminder to the men folk…It is not OK to refer to the head of the RNC as a ni&ger patsy, or Bill Clinton as an dried up old scl*ng, and it is not OK to refer to Ann Coulter as a cvnt or menopausal hag. Acting like a bigot is being a bigot. Get over yourselves.

Way to make the point that the obomanytes dont want to face. mr.o Is just a stepping stone anyway, and those that are swept up in the bs of these issues are saddly gonna be swept away in the comming times. mr.o Has only one purpose for the reason the Lord apointed him the seat as president, and that to to bring civil unrest that will become civil war to this nation. This has to be done so that when the antichrist takes over it will be able to bring false peace to all the nations. Then they will band together to rise against Israel,as Israel will not join in to this. Israel knows that time is short and saddly alot of you folks dont see it for what it really is. I pray the Lord opens your eyes before its to late.

for effectively and soundly pointing out just one example of how Ann Coulter is a bigot and a hypocrite. Job well done!

After all these years she still can't control
her bugging eyes with Jerry. It's like Morse Code
with eye blinks...I-want-you-on-a-platter-of-sushi-
what-say-you-JerJer? His reply as always... N-A-D-A.

Annie won easily b/c Jerry won't take her on
himself b/c that would not sit well with Roger
or Fox b/c Annie is a conservative icon &
Jerry Rivera isn't anyone's icon.

Can coulter get through a sentence without muttering "umm, ummm ummm"
she's nothing more than a a right wing nut job freak of nature!
