Good God. They really are wishing and hoping for a terrorist attack.
Michael Scheuer, on Glenn Beck's show last night:
Scheuer: The only chance we have as a country right now is for Osama bin Laden to deploy and detonate a major weapon in the United States. Because it's going to take a grass-roots, bottom-up pressure. Because these politicians prize their office, prize the praise of the media and the Europeans. It's an absurd situation again. Only Osama can execute an attack which will force Americans to demand that their government protect them effectively, consistently, and with as much violence as necessary.
Beck: Which is why, I was thinking this weekend, if I were him, that would be the last thing I would do right now.
I guess the wingnuts have given up the pretense of decency and normalcy. Now they're rooting for another terrorist attack, so that we stoopid Americans will finally WAKE UP! to the nature of the evil that conspires against us ...
Actually, we're becoming quite awake indeed. And it isn't bin Laden who scares us right now. More like Glenn Beck and his guests.

As for sedition, again, nope. The most easily understood definition of sedition I could find states:
"Sedition usually involves actually conspiring to disrupt the legal operation of the government and is beyond expression of an opinion or protesting government policy. Sedition is distinguished from treason, which requires actual betrayal of the government, or 'espionage'."
They are not conspiring. They are expressing an opinion. Fortunately or unfortunately, in this country we can all express our opinions no matter how stupid they are.
Let's counter their ridiculousness with reason rather than trying to make claims of treason and sedition. When we do the latter we sound too much like "them".

Yes, Manson was found guilty of murder even though he didn't personally kill anyone (that we know of). However, he also didn't just say, "I HOPE you guys murder people." He DIRECTED his "family" to murder and he was present for some of the murders. The distinction may be lost on you, but that's okay. You can go ahead and call Scheuer's remarks treason, but it just makes you sound as loopy as he does. But if you don't mind, I certainly don't mind, either.
Manson ordered the murders; that's what he was found guilty of.
It's not a crime to wish, even publicly, that something bad will happen to someone or that someone else will commit a crime, no matter how serious.
For instance, it's not a crime for me to publicly wish that Limbaugh would get knifed by one of his rentboys.
And careful with that treason word -- the reason that treason is the only crime specifically defined in the Constitution is because that charge was widely and lethally deployed against political dissidents and personal enemies in the old European order and the Founders wanted none of that.
A person I know spent a year and a half in jail for expressing a wish that some one would commit a crime.
Wish that someone would embarrass the (current) government by blowing up a city and that is free speech. Wish the same of the past government and you would be thrown in a hole and not even see a lawyer or a judge.
This other person said that a bank stealing from people (they had just nicked him for $500) was the sort of thing that would get somebody to bomb the bank. They convicted him for making the threat to do it.

I was waiting for the bus yesterday, and there was a guy screaming at people passing on the street with threats... clearly completely out of his mind. Part of me just thought he was harmless and probably too sick to do anything, but another part of me couldn't live with myself if he did act on his threats, so i called 911 and the police showed up within a few minutes.
Maybe Beck needs the same treatment.
I would have just pummeled the guy...but nowadays, such actions are frowned upon.

Consider, also, that if he IS in a cave, it's a cave with high-speed internet access and is close enough to courier tapes to al-Jazeera containing messages referencing current events.
