Good God, what is this country coming to?

It seems the film Creation, a major-production biopic about Charles Darwin starring Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly, won't be seen in the United States because no distributor with the guts to stand up to the religious right in this country can be found:

The film was chosen to open the Toronto Film Festival and has its British premiere on Sunday. It has been sold in almost every territory around the world, from Australia to Scandinavia.

However, US distributors have resolutely passed on a film which will prove hugely divisive in a country where, according to a Gallup poll conducted in February, only 39 per cent of Americans believe in the theory of evolution.

Movieguide.org, an influential site which reviews films from a Christian perspective, described Darwin as the father of eugenics and denounced him as "a racist, a bigot and an 1800s naturalist whose legacy is mass murder". His "half-baked theory" directly influenced Adolf Hitler and led to "atrocities, crimes against humanity, cloning and genetic engineering", the site stated.

The film has sparked fierce debate on US Christian websites, with a typical comment dismissing evolution as "a silly theory with a serious lack of evidence to support it despite over a century of trying".

Jeremy Thomas, the Oscar-winning producer of Creation, said he was astonished that such attitudes exist 150 years after On The Origin of Species was published.

"That's what we're up against. In 2009. It's amazing," he said.

"The film has no distributor in America. It has got a deal everywhere else in the world but in the US, and it's because of what the film is about. People have been saying this is the best film they've seen all year, yet nobody in the US has picked it up.

"It is unbelievable to us that this is still a really hot potato in America. There's still a great belief that He made the world in six days. It's quite difficult for we in the UK to imagine religion in America. We live in a country which is no longer so religious. But in the US, outside of New York and LA, religion rules.

"Charles Darwin is, I suppose, the hero of the film. But we tried to make the film in a very even-handed way. Darwin wasn't saying 'kill all religion', he never said such a thing, but he is a totem for people."

No wonder conservatives believe liberals lack the courage of their convictions. We prove them right every other day.

Whatever happened to freedom of speech in this country? We truly live in insane times, when art is no longer presented, debated and discussed in a rational manner, but suppressed completely, a la Taliban. I am ever more convinced Canada is a kinder, better, more intelligent country.

It's about capitalism, they don't see profits in it. Someone will pick it up sooner or later. If Michael Moore can get his films distributed, theres no doubt that this film, if any good, will find a distributer as well. I really think you guys a grasping at straws to say that there is that much religus fervor that a movie can be prevented from being distributed. There's plenty of disributers out there that are agreeable to Darwinism.

Most of you need to take a step back, look at the big picture, and realize that this story is only utilizing the language of a few christian sources to create gnashing of teeth among you fervent darwinists. Most christians are curious about how Darwin came to his theories in order to understand how the average evolutionist thinks, and to understand the science that started it.

Cool down people, this is a simply an attempt to gain publicity and get the movie marketed. With this sort of attention, a distributer will pick it up, perhaps from hearing about it at C&L. It's all to easy to get some of you to blow your lids.

!

Wouldn't all these Christianists howling over it, just create nothing but free publicity over it? If anything the masses like a controversy, so why wouldn't they turn a profit here?

...can only come from a Beckie.

no need to get nasty :)

you would realize the exact opposite of your statement is true.

That's for damn sure.

There is no such thing as Darwinism. Or Darwinists.

it is a smear by the right to try and make it some "religious" belief.

)O(

I haven't had a lid in years:

http://cdn.wn.com/o25/ph//2009/05/01/306c4795...

Pure capitalism weeds out any speech that would threaten the status quo. It's "natural selection," if you will.

The mainstream media is a perfect example of this. As you see happening, real deep questioning, traditionally uncovered by journalists, is removed naturally by slashing journo staffs to meet profit goals.

It's replaced by entertainment that distracts, and as we see happening now, actually guides the public opinion toward the goals of the company: to maintain advertisers and profits.

Ultimately, the public becomes the pawn of the corporate powers, being ignored by them when it's against their profit interests, being rallied to take to the streets when their profits are threatened.

All the while, being denied access to truth and education. Freedom of speech?

That's easy,... FEAR.

People are scared shitless. They have been since half the country lost the civil war & tried to find some kind of identity after their world was rocked out from under their feet. A swath of illiterate white trash who go from welfare leeches to sitting at the right hand of the throne God in just one quick conversion. Not knowing anything about what the Bible actually says, they're led by the nose straight into war & torture by the idiots they elected & fought to support for two decades.

Add to that the economy, job losses, & the housing market, & all these people have left is a 3500 year old book & self righteousness big enough to cover up all their own faults.

But don't try to tell a true story about proven science.

Free country, my ass.

LOLOLOLOLOL. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! LOLOLOLOLOLOL! Nooo nooooo...I can't stand it! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL.

This is what happens when the insane minority is allowed to run roughshod over every one else.

Rest assured...I will see this movie...in America. I live in NY. It will be playing here. No doubt about it.

The rest of the country. Boohoo. Sucks to be you.

... that it will make the rounds of one of the 'art house' theaters in the Bay Area. The area where I live is nonetheless fairly conservative (we had idiots stealing the 'No on Prop 8' signs) - and we had to go to the 'art house' theater to see both Milk and Good Night & Good Luck.

This movie will be a huge hit on the torrent circuit online and probably FREE. If this movie had been produced by Falwell (forgot our rightsa & freedoms), Rev. Haggard(busted for snorting coke off a guy's wang) or Swaggart (whoremonger), it would've made a zillion by now.

Rest assured...I will see this movie...in California.

Today's feature about Darwin called "Creation" will not be seen.

Instead we will bring you two hours of graphic, un-Christian torture in this little diddy Mel likes to call "The Passion".

Vomit. I couldn't even see the thing. Mel Gibson isn't allowed in my house anymore.
*

I was never even curious. I watched south park's episode on the movie instead. Very enlightening. You've never seen Mel Gibson shown in a worse light.

Cool. I never saw the movie either,, but would like South Park's rendition **(nothing to do with torture.)

--> I guess showing this is an inconvenience to the growing Theocracy. How's that for your freedom to decide?

lol

the south park creators would drop to their knees and open wide for mel gibson.

Oh you mean "The Jesus Chainsaw Massacre"?

I thought we had Hollywood liberal elites and all. This is just unbelievable. We are being censored. I mean I can't wrap my head around this at all. Since when did religions dictate what we may or may not see at the movies? There was that movie about Christ a few years ago, I didn't care to see it but hell, if others wanted to see it that was their business. This is fu*king bizarre.

We are leaving tomorrow for three days at Amelia Island, Fl. I hope I don't hear one word of news that whole time, my sanity depends on it. Reality becomes more difficult every day!

Abbybwood.

Thank you so much and I intend to have a great time. My husband will be at meetings so my little dog and I will do a little shopping and totally veg out.

Swing by the megachurch. I hear it's very uplifting. The gift shop is great too. See if you can get the very rare Jesus holding Elvis in his right hand and Ronald Reagan in his left hand, on black satin.

Very inspirational.

Enjoy your island time.

It will find a distributor.

This is pre-distribution press.

Handypants, come get your prize!

condemning those that used language that threatened the lives of those that supported our ideology. Now you have turned 180 when it comes to something you believe in. libernmoderation & bricked, what's the differnce between you and those that use the same language on Malkin's site, or Limbaughs. Pull it together people, you're eroding the fabric of the honest debate this site was created for.

No, I merely stated what I would in the hypothetical event that these pseudo-xtians break down my door to confiscate my copy of this yet to be released movie and drag me away.
Would it not be considered self defense?
I am in NO way suggesting, condoning, advocating, or whatever, that anyone go an hunt these people down and harm them.

That said, I do see your point.
But the malkins and the limbaughs and the becks, savages, etc etc, etc. have advocated violence against us.

I'm just saying if the fundies/teabaggers/fascist numbskulls, do start something, they will regret it.

What's wrong with standing up for yourself against such mindless foes?

Are you saying you'd just sit their if they broke down your doors?

is much different than the actual occurence, or likelihood, of teabaggers breaking down my door. I am in an interracial marriage, and would probably be one of the first to have my door broke down by racist opponents to Obama.

And I just noticed I spelt "their" wrong...gah...gotta slow my typin down so I can spell correctly.

I doubt many, if any teabaggers would have the discipline, or the juevos to carry out such an operation.

In any event...I was being hypothetical...at least I was trying to be.

I am privileged under the law to use lethal force to defend my dwelling place from a felon.

That, my dear friend is the difference between me and those of the Cult of Malkin. Those people advocate and illegal use of violence, while I am merely stating that I reserve the right to use deadly force in defense of my home.

Let me give you a little analysis here.

This is the Common Law rule for burglary.

Tresspassory breaking and entering of the dwelling house of another in the night time with intent to commit a felony.

So Christianist, busting the lock on my door and coming in. There is your tresspassory breaking and entering. They entered my house, there's your entering of the dwelling house of another. They intended to steal or kick my ass/kill me, there is your intent to commit a felony.

Therefore, under the law, I would be justified in using deadly force against them.

Difference is, unlike those of the lunatic right, I am advocating violence against a felon, in the midst of a criminal act. So don't even think you can compare me to their ilk.

I am in an interracial marriage, and would probably be one of the first to have my door broke down by racist opponents to Obama.

Whoop-dee-fucking-doo, I'm Asian-American, so (assuming you're white) I'm still more likely to have the racists gunning for me. But as liberal said, this is all hypothetical anyway, I also live near the hood, I doubt any racist teabaggers would even make it to my house before getting gunned down by some gang member. That's assuming they even have the balls to come down to this area to begin with.

)O(

I haven't been part of the hood since I was circumcized.

adds fuel to the fire, and will give those that are looking for a reason to be violent, more reason. We all know that Limbaugh, Beck, O'Reilly, and all their friends scan for these kind of comments to attack. Why give them ammunition. That's my point.

I concede to your wisdom in this case.

So...what do we do then?

And the Malkanites just want to have a friendly rational discussion about all the issues facing this country. What, are you new here in America? Or haven't you been called a traitor yet?

We need more fuel for this fire.

Should we let go of our values because they are making vicious outlandish attacks? That's like saying we should attack a foreign country and take part in the useless killing of millions of people because their leader renounced America.

Are you happy with the current dialogue in America. The more we fume over the lies and manipulations portrayed in the media, and not stay on point, the more victories we hand those that want the current discourse. By reacting the way many on this site are over what may be a genius publicity stunt, lets those that we really should give no credence to know that they are doing their job getting under our skin.

I ignore Beck, Limbaugh, and OReilly. Though I read transcripts of their shows to understand the rights positions, I don't get bent out of shape. That's what they want. If they see it's not working, they will get crazier, and then will be fired because they crossed the line. Let them destroy themselves. People will see the craziness, as we are starting to see now, and their support will not continue.

^

The next time one of these rethug nuts talks about freedom or freedom of speech I'll laugh in their hypocritical faces.

Sorry Site Monitor...but I'm pretty damn pissed about this.
I will try to stifle my rage.

You've been punked, hahahaha........

Your "Sorreeee" made me think of that Jack Links commercial form some reason.

This really has me riled up!
I wanna go by as many copies as "Origin of Species" as I can afford and nail them to the front doors of as many churches as I can, before I get arrested.
Pushin their belief, or rather their FEAR of science on this country.
To all you fundies out there...this is the last fuckin straw.
It's on.

Uh ... they can't read.

And if they could - they wouldn't understand it.
*

We should start a group that very sneakily puts copies in Hotel Rooms!

religion, religious nutbags, and those that defend it/them

STOP IT!!!

Remember religious moderation is no bullwark against religious extremism. eligious moderation provides cover for the extremists.

STOP IT!!

I can't believe this - and I really am surprised. That the movie would be controversial I expected. NO distributors? I'm speechless.

I've told my kids to get out - find a way - go live somewhere else. Obama doesn't seem to be REALLY interested change (great campaign slogan though) -- This country is nearly beyond hope.

We'll see how bad things can really get when Roberts overturns campaign finance reform laws.
*

"controversial?"

I think it is time for a group of people with a combined batting average of 0.0 when it comes to predict and explain reality, to just SHUT THE F*CK UP ALREADY.

Is the earth flat? Nope
Is the earth the center of the universe? Nope
Is the earth 6000 years old? Nope not even close
Are there angels flying around over the clouds? Nope
Is there a hell underground? Nope and it is not for lack of digging and drilling
And on and on and on...

Seriously, I can not think of a group of people who has been so wrong in such a consistent manner. I am lost when it comes to explain why these jackasses are taken seriously, and why they insist on being worthy of the benefit of the doubt even though they do not extend the courtesy to anyone else (the article in this thread is an example)?

Takes them on in "The God Delusion"

Wonderful book.

This is not about religion, so please don't make it so.

Evangelical fundamentalism is a cult. They are outcasts within their own Protestant religion.

... need to go back to bed and get up on the right side.
*

I will never be on the right side of anything. ;o)

This is pretty much about religion. How can a post about a film being considered "controversial" on the grounds that it may raffle the sensibility of some religious people not be about "religion?"

It is like saying how discussing any of the shenanigans pulled by the GOP is not about politics.

Because you didn't read my post.

Evangelical fundamentalism is not a religion in the traditional sense. It is a cult.

... I don't think you read mine.

You asked. I answered.

You have a problem with religion in general. That's fine and that's your right.

You sound as if you're against all religion. Again, you're that's your right...but religion has protections in this country against folks like you.

The country also protects the majority against a violent, feverish minority which is what this is about.

The Roman Catholic church - which ironically is not really catholic with a small "c" is a cult. The only difference is how big you are.

If you believe in supernatural occurrences.
If your beliefs do not correspond to scientific fact (old white guy in sky, elephant head dude of life, earth goddess, flying spaghetti monster, their pastor is not gay for hiring male prostitutes)
If you meet regularly for guidance and direction seriously based on these beliefs and practices.
If your organization makes some attempt to sustain these beliefs - such a collection plates.

You are a cult.

Get big enough, we change the name, so you can call the small group of loonies - a cult. But it is all the same.

The Evangelical right has over a million in it and raises millions to keep going.

Yes, it is the big time. It is a religion.

If only it was a cult... it would not have as much power

I'm glad there is someone here that has the guts to step up and recognize the fanatical few don't represent the many.

... we wouldn't have famine in the world, we wouldn't have poverty, everyone would love their neighbor, there would be almost not crime, no murders, no usury, no greed...

Maybe the many just suck a little less that the "few rotten" apples, and that is hardly a cause to "rejoice" or pride, much less a cause for perennial benefit from the doubt. At what point do Christians start to be held accountable? I mean, sure there was this great feller (of whom there is no historical record BTW) who did some great things a couple of thousand years ago. Too bad his followers haven't done all that much great, although I must say their ride on his coat tails must have been the longest in history. Talk about living off the rents....

A few bad apples here, a few bad apples there... and well, you end up with a whole orchard of rot.

Tyler, I agree with your politics for the most part, but you are truly hitting the fringes when it comes to those whose faith is in God. Nowhere in the bible is it suggested that there would be no famine, destruction, peace on earth. In fact, the bible says that there will be famine, war, earthquakes, and death prior to the return of Christ.

Let's see what kind of response this post gets. When it says that believers are to love their neighbors as themselves, it should be a clue to you who the true believers are. I compare these "few rotten" apples to the Pharisee's and Saducees during the time of Jesus. They did not believe they should be related to anyone unclean, nonbelievers, or sinners. If they truly followed their example, they wouldn't have been near each other. Jesus set the example, and proclaimed that everyone is a creation of God. True believers set the example of their faith, and extend a gracious hand to those that need it most (The sick, the weary, the heavy laden). None of us are perfect however, and thats why we pray for forgiveness.

Hopefully those that respond to this post will do so in a respectful way that promotes healthy debate, not argument. Those follow in the footsteps of Christ only share their testimony. We are instructed to shake the dust from our feet if those that hear it decide not to believe, not to force the religion on everyone. Those that do, are a with the "few rotten" apples.

I've seen way to much hypocrisy.
But I do acknowledge the fact that there are some people who do wonderful things who are members of any one particular religion.
Simply put, there's not enough of them. Religion has become politicized. And in allowing that to happen, has become corrupted.
Sadly, the decent people don't get recognized. Someone on this thread said that the good people in religion go about doing Christ like things w/o recognition. Because they don't need the recognition. It's in their hearts. I believe that to be true.

The problem is, religious groups (some mind you, not all) have politicized themselves therefore prostituting themselves. For a political agenda.
But by no means am I implying all religious organizations are guilty of this. As the person on this thread said, They do it unnoticed.

I'd like to see the Likes of Pat Robertson , Jerry Falwell, Jimmy Swaggart and so on, get raked over the coals . They're nothing more that carpetbaggers.

From what I'm hearing about Teddy Kennedy's book, he was one of those people. We all know he spent his time in politics trying to make things better for people who had nothing or nearly nothing as far as health care went. Now, after his death, his family is finding out from reading his book that he was more religious than anyone, even his family, ever knew. I have high respect for someone like that.

but the gods like it because it is good"

A simple Platonic lesson, (Euthyphro 10a) but one that I think applies here.

Ted Kennedy championed making lives better because it was the right thing to do.

He may have been religious, but being so is not relevant for doing the right thing unless you are:

a. superficial and only act out of fear of punishment
or
b. out irrational belief.

I think better of Sen Kennedy. I think he was a kind hearted man who recognized what was the right thing to do. This was probably learned with a lot of soul searching, recovering from bouts of substance abuse, and living with a career ruining scandal that probably helped shape him into who he became.

Maybe his religious beliefs fostered this character like maybe Bill O Reilly's religeous inclination has fostered Bill's hate mongering. That I cannot say.

However, I would like to think better of Sen Kennedy. Since religious belief seems independent of character, those here who are wishing the purging of it from our government feel so because they see no need for it in doing the right thing and a lot of dangers in accepting it. I Sen Kennedy was deeply religeous, I respect him for keeping it personal and would do so even more if felt he had to table his personal beliefs for the good of the state. I am not aware of the later, so I leave this open.

Them trying to ram their beliefs down my throat.
Like they know something that I don't.
Has it ever dawned on them that they might be wrong? That they were misled?
And in doing so, they have interjected themselves into other peoples business. When it's none of their business.
Again, I'm not singling out any one person of religion here. It's the politicized religious orgs that piss me off.
Ok off to work. have a nice one.
I keep thinking about what Gandhi said . Sadly, he was right. For the most part anyway.

)O(

What confuses the hell out of them is when they raise the subject with me, and I seem to know more about the subject than they do, and then I dismiss it all with a joke.

The most fervent think I should be quaking in fear, the more tolerant that I'm not Christian only because I havn't looked into it, at which point I'll immediately convert.

They're both shocked when they realize I have looked into it and consciously rejected it.

Praise Bob!

This may be one of the most serious posts I've seen from you. I'm marking my calendar.

So many believers are of the mind that the rapture is coming in the next six to ten years or so. I've spoken to a few that believe that, when this happens, they'll be taken, so their actions on Earth won't matter, because they believed in Jesus. They are perfect not by action or thought, but by simple belief.

Saying "True Believers" is like saying "True Fans" in reference to "Buffy The Vampire Slayer"; it means nothing except to the person stating it. "I'm right, so I'm the good Christian here." Just because someone does not adhere directly to your interpretation, does not make them any less of a believer, except in your eyes.

Either the Evangelicals are a religion or a cult, but either way, their actions, when not stopped by others in their midst (Not a minority, by the way; evangelicals are the largest religious block in the country) relegates those with the same beliefs to the same status by outsiders. If it offends you so, speak out. Do not fear reprisals. We need more Christians to speak out against problems with the faithful, or soon you'll all be lumped in together.

)O(

Sola Fide, Sola Scriptura, Sola Gratia, Solis Christus and Sola Dio Gloria.

There are two types of people regarding the off shoot of Judaism, we call Christianity.

There are Christians, who have faith in Christ and try to emulate him to the best of their ability. And believe they are saved though that. I have no beef with them.

And there are those that I apply the term Christianist (for lack of a better word) to. These are the people that believe they are saved simply though the grace of God and though faith in Christ and do not believe that they must act as Christ did. I hate these people as much as I hate Al Qaida.

problem, Tyler, is that those that really do good and are Christ-like in their lives do not seek the limelight. They go quietly about their day taking care of the sick and the poor without benefit of cameras or lights. They do not need acknowledgment or adoration, they do that which they do because it's in their hearts and we rarely or never hear about them.

it is also the case that one need not believe in god, or any human prophet of the believed-in god, or the tenets of any religion (or cult) in order to do good and live a wholesome, giving, loving, life.

It's all a question of culture and indoctrination - and whether a person is willing to use their 'god-given' brains and reasoning faculties to understand that god is merely a creation of a fearful species.

Not what I expected would transpire, and I'm quite pleased (not that it matters).

Faith is to the beholder. Many here have faith that the science surrounding darwinism and evolution is fact, though the evidence never makes a direct link that humans came from monkeys (I'm only speaking on evolution from the standpoint of humans evolving from an ape, or whatever primate is theorized to be the starting point. This has no regards to evolution to ones surroundings which I actually, as a christian, support). I could make the same argument that in using our brains the science doesn't prove anything, yet with locating small humanoid fossils, this somehow makes direct links to human evolution. What's the difference between this and archaelogical finds that supports history given in the bible? You don't have faith that it's true, so you don't believe, and you fight for what you believe.

That is part of the problem with our current political environment. All parties on the left and right have drawn lines in the sand to defend what they believe, and the dialogue has become argumentative and condescending. Thus, the polarization we see in America today. Though we see our leaders on the left trying to reach out for a meeting of the minds, they still have their bottom line that they are not going to let go off.

As a christian, I do witness to others and attempt to introduce them to Jesus Christ. If they make the decision that they will not believe, I have an open mind to appreciate them for their beliefs. I don't put them down, make them feel guilty, or judge them. That is not my place, as I am a sinner, I have no place to judge. I must remain an example of my faith however in case there is a change of mind and heart. I think with that mindset, it helps promote discussion and understanding of one another. Though we don't agree, we understand the others side, and remain respectful in our disagreements.

)O(

Well for one thing they can sometimes get DNA samples from the bones, and compare it to modern primates including humans. By the wear of their teeth what sort of diet they had, by the relative strength of their bones, lengths of arms and legs, shape of jaw and hips whether they were capable of walking on hind legs, and by cranial capacity measures, as well as cultural artifacts, what sort of intelligence they had.

Belief in facts are one thing, belief in dogma unprovable another, hence the need for faith.

Oh and there's a 98% match in chimpanzee and human DNA, although we're probably closer to the bonobo, and that's not including the so called "missing link."

Chipanzees are still roaming the earth, with DNA that is 98% similar to human. OK. What is in that 2% difference? Why are there not creatures roaming that earth that are somewhere in between a human and a chimpanzee? Where is the fossilized evidence of these creatures?

Neandrathal is thought to have originated as Homo Erectus over 900K years ago. They are placed in Europe approximately 500K years ago, and believed to have been there as recently as 28K years ago. Between 30K & 300K years ago, homo sapien is thought to have graded from homo erectus (evolved). Fossils found in Israel show the potential crossing of the home erectus and homo sapien that displays the evolution.

Now chimpanzees are believed to be originated as homominina. Homominina is thought to have then to evolved into homo habilis. Because homo habilis is shown to have alked side by side with homo erectus, the science shows that though the DNA of a chimpanzee is 98% similar to homo sapien, that 2% is a huge difference, and that man did not evolve from chimpanzees.

Because he was lonely?
Sorry, but that one is a bit far fetched.

And people who don't adhere to any religion also do wonderful things.
The Shroud of Turin was carbon dated. And turns out it's a fraud.
They have found early human fossils.
I'm still waiting for them to find the Ark.
Sorry Pawn. While I respect you as a person. The religion thing is just a form of controlling people. Don't do that, you won't get into heaven.
Or, you'll be going to hell.
Just a way to manipulate people. And to get them to give away their money. It's a scam. You don't need religion to be a good person.

)O(

That's why I said we're closer to bonobo, and made a passing mention of the missing link. No one ever claimed direct decent from chimps or apes, but that we had some kind of common ancestor.

The only thing evolution provides is that the species and genus will continue to exist, not that it will reach any particular level of development.

And the two percent is significant when stretched out over millions of years. Think of saving two pennies a year for that length of time.

One big difference is in skull's cc, and a more developed language on our part. We had a evolutionary need to get rid of fur, and remain upright; chimps had no such evolutionary need. The fact that they exist, and that we exist, show that both modifications were successful.

And biologist have evidence that 2 or more species lived at the same time on occasion, but generally one rose to the top. For example, the neanderthal and the homo sapiens is thought by some scientists to have lived side-by-side, but that does not mean peacefully.

The way to see by faith is to shut the eye of reason

)O(

My favorite sermon:

http://www.iclnet.org/pub/resources/text/hist...

I always imagined Mike Pinder of the Moody Blues reciting it (Knights in White Satin word poem), but now I tend to hear Patrick Stewart or Timothy Dalton.

...recognize the fanatical few don't represent the many.

This would make a good slogan for our times.

Anybody remember the film that made the circuit a few years ago regarding the indoctrination of children with the whole GEEEEESUS!!!! thang? We're talking indoctrination right up there with the Islamic Madrasas for little boys in Saudi Arabia.

"It's a Holy War! It's a Holy War! We have to "convert/save" every person on Earth before Jesus returns!"

Newsflash: Sarah Palin and her wacko Rev. Muthee endorse all this crazy hoopla.

These people are DANGEROUS to civilized society, IMHO.

Here's the film I mentioned: "Jesus Camp":

They simply need to be introduced to Jesus. Big difference. The crusades happened because they thought everyone had to be converted. The bible says not everyone will be converted, so it's a vain effort.

who has found no use for belief in a mythological god construct. As such, have no need or want for the continued "introduction" from those who find it a necessary part of THEIR lives.

Please tell them to stop.

I have tried and OBVIOUSLY, they don't listen.

I'd recognize that my continued effort introducing you to Jesus was being counterproductive, and adverse to any prayer of conversion.

However, I do have atheist friends that enjoy debating with me, so I continue discussing my faith with them.

...clasped in prayer

Adherents.com is a growing collection of over 43,870 adherent statistics and religious geography citations: references to published membership/adherent statistics and congregation statistics for over 4,200 religions, churches, denominations, religious bodies, faith groups, tribes, cultures, movements, ultimate concerns, etc. The religions of the world are enumerated here.**

All religions can't be right. All religions can be wrong! Logic be damned

And the crazy militant Muslims, is those crazy Muslims actually have the balls/faith/convictions to put on a bomb vest. These Evangelicals are just chickenshit, I glare at them and they keep their distance from me. We don't have to worry about any large scale violence coming out of most of them. They'll only pick on those that they think can't tombstone pile driver them into the ground.

I agree that MOST evangelicals are chickenshit.
But some have killed folks.
This year.
The abortion doctor. The guard at the holocaust museum...
I don't think that moron who shot those cops was an evangelical though....

We don't need to worry about any major violence from most of them.

They'd be crushed by the Feds pretty damn quick-like.

)O(

Not quite, evangelical only means to witness, and fundamentalism is a method of sola scriptura.

Some just prefer to witness by service.

He's at Sony in Culver City.

Maybe he can get the Prez. of Sony to pick it up for Sony Classics.

It seems to me this could be a real money maker. I think it would appeal to just about every person in America who likes film and who despises Hannity, O'Reilly, Limbaugh, Coulter and all the other right wing wacko goofballs goose stepping around "Bible Land".

Of course left-wingers tend to be a little on the cowardly side sometimes I think. Just standing in line to see this film or walking out from viewing it might set you up to be SHOT by a Rush-bot, similar to abortion doctors being murdered.

If it's true that NO U.S. distributor will pick up the rights, anyone wanna bet that even Netflix won't have the guts to have it as well?

These are truly scary times folks.

The GOP hate communism, yet they are so restrictive in the freedoms we used to have here in the USA that they are primarily responsible for the loss of these freedoms that we seem to restrict in order to not bend these GOP all out of shape.

hates socialism, too, but uses it every chance they get. (Bush bailing out country club CEO's on Wall Street, etc.)

The GOP hates homosexuality, too. (But practice it every chance they get.)

If the GOP spent alittle more time supporting the President, maybe we could get over Bush's depression quicker.

The GOP will do A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G to distract people from the real issues.

They are every bit a human as you and me. They know how to work the system to the advantage of the rich. They are like organized crime with a veneer of legitimacy.

that if you asked any of the people 'protesting' in the streets - very few of them even know what the words mean, or what true socialism or communism actually is.

Please...we are a Christian nation here. Please show proper deference and decorum.

movies about scientific stuff not so much.

OK, got it...

But I have to ask, all these idiots who do not "believe" in evolution... are they also immune to the flu by personal choice also?

If there's no such thing as evolution, there can't be 'resistant' strains of anything.

)O(

Mutations like cancer can always occur within one's lifetime; evolution is over eons.

It's like comparing the day's weather with global climate change.

There are a whole slew of them who think the H1N1 vaccine is an Obama plot to turn them all into mooslim zombies and they're organizing a boycott. I'm hoping they're successful too 'cause, you know, that whole natural selection thing and all.....

Ohmyfrickin'god.

I hear the only way to kill a zombie is to shoot it in the brain but if fundievangilicaldeathcultists become zombies they'd be invincible.

that's why goawd made chainsaws!

... flamethrowers.

... the real trick is to throw holy water at 'em.

The irony of Christian zombies being repulsed by the artifacts of their own faith would be quite lovely.

my brother helped me deliver some construction material to a church one time, and he drank some holy water out of the holy water thingy...(looked like an office water cooler made out of bronze with cool designs on it) and a few minutes later he was pukin his guts out...

at a Blimpies in a gas station.
Coincidence?

Food poisoning usually takes four hours to kick in. Not sure what might have been in the holy water. Something evil?

at times, lol!

)O(

I remember driving down a road having a giggling fit, because there was a Blimpies next door to a Maternity Shop.

That makes me feel a whole bunch safer. I'm headin' down to the Wallmart ta git me a flame throwin' chainsaw right now.

They MAKE those? I want one! With chromed headers!
Figures that Wally-world would stock them.

ohh...can you pick me up a six pack of high caffeine drink, several rounds of ammo, beef jerky and a large slurpeee please!!

For the Nazi Zombie levels in Call of Duty 5. Evangelical Zombies.

"M-1919 to the FACE!"

PS3?
I gotta get it...shootin nazi zombies is my kinda fun!

PS3, 360, and PC.

Finally SOME good news today!

)O(

According to the lore of the Voudun there is no expressed method of how to destroy a zombie.

It's just if they remember they're dead, they'll seek their graves.

However, according to lore world-wide drowning or burning are near universal.

The Zawmbie expert hisself, The One an ONLY George "Motherfucking" Romero would take issue with this...Voudun character!
PAH!

)O(

It's the name of the religion commonly called Voodoo (although it's also been called Hoodoo by Europeans.)

It has a strong similarity to Candombre, Macumba, Lacumi and in it's tangentially Christianized form Santeria.

Besides, Romero never called them zombies in his seminal classic but the dead. And they behaved largely similar to the vampire and the werewolf, where the victim become one in turn. The Arabic ghul, the Chinese vampire, and other Asiatic variations were known for eating body parts. The Chinese in particular fancies hearts, lungs, livers and kidneys.

The first haggis?

)O(

(Actually it should be spelled Vodun, I always tend to throw in the extra U).

And well before Romero, there was the Halperin Brothers White Zombie with Bela Lugosi's (1933), their Revolt of the Zombies (1936) [interestingly set in Vietnam], ,Val Lewton's movie I Walked With A Zombie (1943), and even some from Hammer Studios Plague of the Zombies (1966).

Zombies also appeared in comedies like Bob Hope's Ghost Breakers (1940), the Martin and Lewis remake Scared Stiff (1953), and the animated Mad Monster Party (1967), and probably some I've never seen.

)O(

Strangely enough the baital in the classic King Vikram and the Vampire: and Other Tales of Hindu Devilry, in many ways behaved like a zombie since he was bagged and being carried by Vikram to the evil yogi(whose name escapes me for the moment, Sentashil?) at the smashana.

But the baital could speak and entertained himself and King Vikram by telling 25 moralistic tales (Pachisi), and annoying him by trying to escape.

In some ways, he acted like a chimp. Particularly since he could be found hanging upside down in a mimosa tree.

Maybe we could develop a vaccine that turns them into busty, uninhibited blondes.

LOL. Sorry...couldn't resist.

... Rudy Giuliani apparently had a moment where he wanted to be a busty, uninhibited blonde ...

But really, all you need to know about what GOP/Christianists find sexy:

- Sarah Palin
- Diapers
- Toe-Tapping in Men's Restrooms

1) Did I miss something? A movie is out about somebody fundies claim is "a racist, a bigot...whose legacy is mass murder" and they DON'T like it?! Sounds like the typical 9/12er!

2)I feel like I say the same thing Jeremy Thomas said about 100+ times a day: "That's what we're up against. In 2009. It's amazing."

Fear. They fear, fear it's self.
stoopid.

Oh, and another GOPer gets arrested for murder.

Re=Thugs -- the party of immature, voraciously rapacious, depraved, despotic, doughy white, cowardly, angry troglodytes, bigots, racists, perverts, xenophobes, pedophiles, murderers, war criminals, homophobes, misogynists, self-righteous hypocrites, self-hating women, fetid wombs, preeminent whiners and consummate chronic liars.

Obtuse assholes.
Good morning Trittydi. And I see you're in a great mood this fine morning.;)

and yet the flat-earthers thought it perfectly okay to bring grade-schoolers to see Mel Gibson's R-rated atrocity The Passion of the Christ?

It astounds me how they think. I can't understand it at all. The Bible says over and over "Fear not!" yet that's their operating base. Anything that might make them think for a moment is scary bad stuff and must be shunned.

For Christians to be "their brother's keeper" or something like that. These people aren't really Christians, they just use it justify their ass-a-holic behavior.

I dunno that I'm convinced on this one. After all, lots of movies that are odious to the wingnuts get made (e.g. every Michael Moore movie). I'd guess this has a lot more to do with America's taste for entertainment. We'll go see a historical bodice-ripper, but a film about a 150-year-old SCIENTIST? A nation that flocks to "Transformers" by the millions and thinks their kitchen appliances work by magic are going to sit through a movie about a guy developing a theory that even those who believe it don't understand? I'm not willing to give the Christianists too much credit here - I'm blaming simple economic calculation.

They really couldn't get a distributor? I'm having a hard time believing this. After all, this is America, and we can put all sorts of other trash on screen so I think that maybe they didn't actually contact any producers to drum up PR.

At least that's my view from the film industry.....

If there is a sizable audience for this film in the U.S., a distributor will pick it up.

A few film critics and other informed observers have begun to say that the producer of this film is trying to generate publicity for it by claiming that the alleged controversy over the subject of the evolution of species is the reason the film hasn't been picked up, yet.

Some have said, there may be a different reason it doesn't have a U.S. distribution deal; namely, this is not the kind of film that U.S. audiences are likely to find entertaining.

:p

I'm still pissed at the Taliban for blowing up the 2000+ year old Buddha statues before 911. But when you think about it, it sounds like something our religious fundies would have done here.

And they'd hold signs around them reading things like "Say No to Buddhacare" and "Siddartha's a Fascist."

Sitting under a tree contemplating his navel? What a socialist, sissy-pants liberal fascist thing to do!

Everyone Knows God Is Found In Giant Glass Cathedrals!

And grilled cheese sandwiches.
*

Let's see...pieces of pizza, cookies, lattes, in cloud formations...

In the Kool-Aid...

oops!

sounds insensitive, right?

How about Jonestown II- The Return???

blew those statues due to their "evil muslim" status, were the loudest in cheering for the destruction of whatever was left of Babylon. After all it was payback 3000 years in the coming...

Religion is an expression of a frightened mind unable or unwilling to deal with reality. We have been hostages for millennia by these same people.
